Hercules' First Comic Con!! HUMAN TARGET, V & VAMPIRE DIARIES Kick Off Wednesday!! Discuss, My Fellow Delegates!!

Published at:  Aug 09, 2009 2:06:00 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

As I type, Comic Con delegates are huddled in Room 20, upstairs at the San Diego Convention Center, soaking up three pilots for series coming to broadcast TV over the 2009-2010 season.

HUMAN TARGET is a MacGyvery, MacGrubery Fox adventure hour from Jonathan Steinberg (“Jericho”), based on the decades-old DC Comics property. I thought it had a couple of strong scenes with Mark Valley (“Fringe”) and Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen”) but the greater portion of the pilot, set mostly aboard a West Coast bullet train, just caused my mind to wander.

V is ABC’s series remake of NBC’s Lizard-Nazi miniseries, this time from “4400” creator Scott Peters. The production design on the alien ships is ginchy, but the humans’ reactions to these insanely passive-aggressive extraterrestrials just struck me as dopey. I have much higher hopes for NBC’s “Day One,” which may also deal with aliens.

VAMPIRE DIARIES is yet another tale of a horny human female falling hard to a super-dreamy vampire (see “Buffy,” “Moonlight,” “True Blood,” “Twilight”), only this time it’s from “Dawson’s Creek” mastermind Kevin Williamson. Easily the worst of the three pilots hitting Room 20 tonight, which is saying something. Thanks again for cancelling "Angel," The WB!

What say you, my fellow registrants? Am I being too hard on these entries? The last of these screenings concludes around 9 p.m. PT!

Every other TV critic seems to know the big-ass Smallville announcement coming this Sunday, but they're scared WB will kill them for spoiling it.

Ausiello-whatever from TV Guide hinted it was the debut of the new SV Superman costume!

You obviously know something, so spill the beans!!!!!

I think the blame starts with

    by tolomey

Anne Rice and Neil Jordan. Anne Rice with writing Interview With The Vampire but more so Jordan with casting Brad Pitt as Louis. I saw that movie in the cinema and I could pretty much hear the girls hearts breaking as the film progressed.
It's a good film, it's just a shame that it's spawned this legacy of pretty boy actors playing what should be cold blooded and emotionless killers.
Dare I say it, even Coppola is partly to blame with his love story centric Bram Stoker's Dracula.
What is next, zombie romance? Perhaps Jason and Freddy will find love in the years to come. Sigh.

hoops championship run. In this case, 60 minutes of HELL. Especially once fans get wind of this, from TV Guide:

Any truth to the rumors about Heroes' Claire becoming a lesbian? -Norm, Escondido, Cal.

Well, Norm, according to Hayden Panettiere (Claire), the persistence of fans like you has paid off. "I think the writers are feeling a lot of pressure now to do it, because everyone's talking about it," she says. "And I certainly wouldn't complain." The non-alcohol induced action ("just a kiss," says creator Tim Kring) will happen in Episode 5 between Claire and her new college roomie, Gretchen (Madeline Zima). Hayden describes Gretchen as "an odd duck who's obsessed with death and shows like CSI." "They're really cute together," Kring says. "If Gretchen reveals her sexual orientation to Claire, Claire might want to reveal her own secret." In addition to fighting evil (more Heroes on page 33), Claire will also pledge Alpha Chi Delta, where preppy pledge master Becky is guarding a secret of her own.

I always like to remind any fan of Twilight I come across

    by slder78

of the fact the the lead vampire is for all intents and purposes a pedophile. Yeah just because he LOOKS like a teen (or at least a twenty something playing a teen) he is in fact a dude over a hundred years old who likes underage girls. MoFo can't wait till she's legal? Why the rush, not like he's gonna lose his looks.

    by sylarthecylon

Anyway, in reference to our views on these upcoming shows, I sincerely hope V is good, but, judging from the trailer, Day One is gonna jack off and slap its big alien invasion dick all over morena baccarins' face. Unless V brings some surprise to the table, like explicit lesbian sex, creeps up from the dark and rapes Day One savagely from behind, then proceeds to rub its lizard balls all over the face of the Day One alien chick with sunglasses.

the only one I'm slightly looking forward to is Human Target and still that doesn't sound too interesting. Anyways True Blood has become an entertaining show now, minus the scenes with Anna Paquin. It clearly doesn't take itself too seriously either.

    by tolomey

I didn't "shit" on Interview With The Vampire. In fact, I said it was a good film. It's just a shame that Brad Pitt was cast as a remorseful vampire, because his pretty boy looks have now influenced a new generation of vampire movies that cater to swooning girls, rather than horror fans.
However, I've always thought that Buffy and Angel were shit fro the start. And no, I'm not Wheedon bashing, as I actual found Firefly to be one of the best Sci-Fi shows of recent times.
    Here endeth the lesson.

What will life be after Lost

    by estacado1

It is by far the best show ever. I can't imagine what it will be like when it's all done. What else is there to look forward to. There's nothing else like it. All the new shows try too hard to shove "emotion" down the viewer's throats. Lost does it well without even trying. I want to see how it all ends but I don't want it to end. ABC better have something as good prepared when the show makes its final curtain.

Yes True Blood has the human-vampire love affair. But that same vampire has killed several humans including a 16 year old girl he turned into a vampire. They don't hide the fact that he is a product of evil.

    Liking High School Girls

    by homer sexual

Just wondering, because think most people consider being hot for teens to be pedophilia, for sure.

Not saying I think that. I have never gotten over Britney's "One More Time" video. But this topic comes up a lot, and I usually get a lot of flack for saying that liking a 16 year old or a 1o year old are two different things.

Not that it isn't skeezy, I just don't see it as child molesting.

ps. Kirsten Dunst was the ONLY good thing in Interview with the Vampire. I did think that flick was pretty weak.

I'd have to agree with you. They even have different terms for being sexually attracted to minors of different age groups. It's all creepy, in a way, but being attracted to a 16-year-old is rather different from being attracted to a 12-year-old. Were it not, we wouldn't hear about so many guys who have cheerleader fantasies.

Pedophelia - attraction to prepubescents. Hebephilia - attraction to pubescent persons. Ephebophilia - attraction to mid-to-late adolescents. (From Wiki)
