This isn't exactly "news" as much as a nerdy, Geeky, sploogasmic portent of coolness. Here's a message setting up the picture:
I attended Lebowski Fest here in Seattle last night and it was great, man. The Dude made a special "satellite appearance", apologizing for not making it since he's up in Canada doing that whole Tron revival thing. I didn't watch my friends die face down in the muck to let this picture go unviewed, so I present it to you.

Okay, to be clear, I don't believe current Bridges actually wears the old-style video grid helmets in the new film (which might not look so great from what we're seeing). I believe dat hat's reserved for Bridges' Clu character, who returns from the first movie via jiffy cool SFX techniques.
NOTE: You can read more story details HERE - they've been verified as pretty much accurate, as opposed to THIS recent script review which appeared online & looks to be from an exceedingly early draft of the film (at best).
Instead, this picture is...simply...a Lebowskiish Bridges in a TRON hat. What more needs to be said?
I've heard a bit about how the new TRON film is shaking out. So far, folks' impressions have been very, very, very favorable. What's cool about these reactions is they're coning from hardcore Geeks and megafans of the first film. I have a feeling we're in for something very special with this project, a belief which'll hopefully be validated at ComicCon over the next few days.
Which brings me to: I'm jonsing from this film in a painful way - it's quickly developing into the nerdiest case of blue balls I've ever experienced. If you're at ComicCon and come across any new TRON goodness? Please drop a line with as many details as possible - pictures, impressions, whatever, etc.

As much as I love the original TRON, much as I still love my old Odyssey 2 video game system, a TRON re-make might not work so well today. Computer tech was cutting edge technology back in the day; now it's commonplace. The first movie was weak on plot, this one can't afford to be. Should be interesting though, I hope.

Was the light cycles.... That's it, The rest of that movie was shit. For people to be sitting back waiting for a sequel 20 something years later is perplexing.
Since 1982 I have watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, Escape from New York, E.T, Videodrome, Blade Runner and the Last Starfighter over a thousand times each. Fucking Tron, ZERO.
Why? Because it was not that good. It was a movie where the effects dominated and the characters were pushed to the side.
True you can give it brownie points for being "revolutionary" but other than that, I don't get it. A Simpsons Halloween episode summed up Tron perfectly, nobody but Homer remembered it.

Outside of the religious and political allegories, it is pretty clunky. The acting styles of Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan? Okay she was hotter than hell in Caddyshack, but acting? Jeff Bridges was pretty cornball at times, also. David Warner...well, David Warner can stand in a pile of shit and still shine. And it did have Wendy Carlos' score. It WAS a fun movie for its time, but I think it wanted so hard to be taken seriously.

It's not quite as bad as the Tron 2.0 video game which came out years ago. I remember playing a demo of that and being fairly disappointed.

The Demo was so so, but they actually spent a great deal of time fixing what people had complained about. It has a very good story for a video game ( yeah you've got to turn up the suspension of disbelief dial a little ) , but the gae is challenging and very faithful to the tron universe... actually I was extremely impressed how they adapted the tron universe for the modern internet etc...

Speaking of Jeff, I wrote an unsolicited script for a Starman sequel back in 1998. It was my first script and I quit college to finish it. It’s been gathering dust ever since. I sent it to Jeff Bridges and John carpenter, although I would prefer if Carpenter didn’t direct a sequel. I wrote some good f/x sequences and some interesting characters. I’m pretty sure I’ll never be involved, but I’d to see the f/x scene from the beach being incorporated, (Jeff’s manager Neil will know the one, totally plagiarised from another movie, but it would look great on film today). If anyone has any questions, email me at hansenfilm@yahoo.ie and I’ll answer them. (Although I won’t give away any plot points. And yes there is a son and indeed, I actually have the perfect casting suggestion!!
