These Few Images From M. Night Shyamalan's THE LAST AIRBENDER Reveal Nothing Substantive (Or Convincing)!!
Merrick here...
A few character mugshots, and some sort of promotional art, from M. Night Shyamalan's THE LAST AIRBENDER have been posted by bscreview.com. I guess "AVATAR" has been dropped to avoid confusion with AVATAR, although...honestly...I haven't cared enough to pay attention.
Follow the image to behold more!

I hear M. Night may appear in this film as the air.

to do your damn job then Merrick.

first
-
because the cartoon was extremely well done. I hate to see it get tarnished.
-
Can it?
-
Damn you ScriptGirl!
-
Holee shit.
-
it will be a close call...
-
knows how to put a film together, he's well trained in the classical film style, unlike all the other hacks on the loose.
-
How can you cast so right for Sokha and Katara and so so HORRIBLY badly for Zuko??? And, why does Zuko have hair?
-
because its always cool to look forward to being massively disappointed by something...
-
ANOTHER movie that is just 'okay' until the last ten minutes, then pull some stupid-ass Twilight Zone rip-off out of its ass... Pushing anyone in the audience with an ounce of common sense over the edge and into a near-homicidal rage? Because, from where I sit that's about all he's been doing for his last 4 films...
-
take a look thru the window. its called 'the outside world'...
ohhh, your parents basement has no windows.
my bad... -
I dislike anime as a rule, but I'm betting this movie will surprise alot of people.
-
Wow . . Merrick, you really ARE behind the times, the whole AVATAR issue was discussed and passed on over a frakin YEAR Ago, about time you joined us here in 2009. And second, Your litte Headline needs revising to say something more along the lines of "NEW THE LAST AIRBENDER POSTER REVEALS the 4 Types of bending!"
Looks great, and please, from now on, since you do not seem to "Care" get someone to write articles about this film who DOES FRAKIN CARE! You really ticked me off with your lack luster editorial of this cool poster. -

not a fan of Airbender, but I still empathize with the fans
by kaiser soze
Saw the trailer in front of Half Blood Prince, and man does it look craptacular. Though I personally can't stand anime (if I'm watching cartoons it's Looney Tunes for me), I know there are a lot of fans of the show and I honestly feel bad for you. Because to love something so much, only to see it destroyed on film, is a sad, sad thing to watch (anyone who saw Bayformers 1 & 2 or the Star Wars prequels knows this pain). Why Hollywood keeps giving films to Shyama-lama-dingdong is beyond me. This man keeps getting worse. Sixth Sense was okay, but lost its luster on repeat viewings. Unbreakable was decent until the lame twist, Signs was horrible, and the Village twist sealed the fate of this crappy director. I won't even go into the shitfests that were Lady in the Water and the Happening. For your sakes, ardent Airbender fans, I hope you get a good adaptation. But with M.Bison at the helm, I'd prepare yourself for disappointment.
-
...of the hooded nutcase with the oversized chopstick taking his hood down and - GASP - it's a brat, will kill this film at the BO alone. Anyone who doesn't know this story previously who gets their first advertising of it from the trailer - and then sees it's from Shyamalan, whose last few movies were not well loved, is going to make an instant mental note to pass on it. After they stop laughing, anyway. I know I did.
-
lolz
its not just me who calls him that... -
These look fucking amazing!! Fuck all of you Shyamalan haters up your tight dumb asses.
-
Critics have stopped calling him the next Spielberg. I'll bet this is a modest hit, and give his career a little boost..till he fucks it up again.
-
Avatar: the Last Airbender is one of my all time favorite shows. Nothing new about fanboys getting riled up about the likelihood a great show/book/comic will get suckified in translation to the live action big screen.
I am just tired of AICN people posting that they don't know wtf it is and don't really care, but here's a link to something they don't know or care about. Go watch the show ya dumbasses! Find out why a relative handful of us effin LOVE this thing. Or go ahead and end up hating it, whatever. Just drop this "ain't it meh" attitude. Or don't post. Jesus! -
Posting to a talkback six times in under fifteen minutes and you think it's me in my parents basement??? Asstard. Get a job.
-
I haven't seen anything that significantly jeopardizes my faith in this movie other than the fact Shyamalan is at the helm. I was a bit disappointed about the Ang not being Asian, and had doubts about Dave Patel being the bad guy, but somehow it all looks "right". So far, so good.
-
The last time those words were spoken in a trailer, we got EPISODE I. I will probably see this though, if the reviews are kind.
-
Can't wait, such a huge fan.
-
Shyamalan is a very misunderstood and talented filmmaker: he is a great director but he needs new and more formidable challenges. "The Last Airbender" offers him an opportunity to broaden his horizons, push his boundaries and entertain his and "Avatar: The Last Airbender" fans (not the haters) even more. In the meanwhile, don't watch his movies if you are expecting a decent story with a large body count and lots of violence; those are not the kinds of story conflicts that Shyamalan tends to go for.
-
don't fuckin post about it.
Otherwise, rename yourselves aint-it-obvious-we-like-to-stir-shit-news. -

btw, I am nowhere near your parents basement. -

Uh, no, we've heard that many more times since Episode I.
the Matrix, Harry Potter, Golden Compass, Kung Fu Panda, Forbidden Kingdom, Dragonball, etc...
It's a VERY common theme in storytelling. -
yadda yadda yadda crap from AICN!!!

the only plausible explanation for the vitriol aimed at Shyamala
by captain katanga
...racism.
You fucking nerds give endless crappy hack directors a free pass, but wait... an Indian director who's made a couple of massively successful films and a few personal, flawed ones? Well we can't have that, he needs to be shown his place! Knock him down a few pegs! BRING HIM DOWN, BRING HIM DOWN!
You people make me sick. -
so sick of people saying every movie is going to be a pos!
-
I agree. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the racist "shamalamadingdong" bullshit.
-
...put together by some ugly kids grandma and even HE doesn't want to wear it. In 5 years he'll use the same costume to act like a jedi in a bad YouTube lightsaber video.
-
Surely you're not serious. If anything, most on this site hail a barrage of venom at hack directors constantly, from Michael Bay to Brett Ratner. It's not racist to say M.Bison's movies suck, it's simple fact. The Happening, Lady in the Water, and the Village all rank in the top 20 worst movies of this decade. And every movie he does, there is always some jackass twost at the end that makes no sense and annoys the fuck out of the audience. Saying Shama-lama-dingdong sucks is not being racist, it's being honest.
-
jackass twIst, not twost
-
And don't call me Shirley.
-
it's not made by the cool kids...(Cameron, Rodriguez et al)
-
I'll give you that TBers here bitch about every director. But really? The Village is seriously great if you half a brain. Lady in the Water was a little self-indulgent, and The Happening was ruined by shitty acting and a mis-timed sumemr release. Not one could seriously be considered to be in the top 20 worst of the decade. That's idiotic hyperbole.
And every movie he has done has a ridiculous twist? Try THREE out of six. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and The Village, and they were all awesome in my opinion. The rest of his movies are straight storytelling. -
Just give us the facts and none of your conceited opinion! A lot of people care about this film even if you don't.
-
Shyamalan's massive EGO, and his last few films, piss a lot of movie fans off. Has nothing to do with racism. That charge is so laughable.
-
WTF...Okay sorry but in the animated series, the races are pretty obvious. I'm pretty sure there are no white-skinned polar natives, and I'm also pretty sure a white kid wouldn't be raised in a Shaolin-style temple. Bunk.
-
That's why they are directors.
-
...eskimos don't have blue eyes, bison can't fly, and this is a FANTASY world based on a cartoon. Get over it.
-
Another Hollywood "fantasy" where most of the population of the earth is white. Nice.
-
Its not just the couple of "personal, flawed" films, ie muddled flops, that he's directed. It's his massive ego. Yes, I know. Successful directors can and do have big egos. It actually helps them function as the director of a big movie. But you may remember M Night mentioning The Exorcist along with his Happenning, and how audiences were stunned at previews. Yea. They were stunned at how bad it was...The guy started to believe his own hype.
-
I came a little late to the party...
-
I hear all the time how Clint Eastwood pushes himself around a set. Not all directors have big egos.
-
of this movie now as a matter of editorial policy? Just trying to keep up. I guess it's predictable given the size of the Shyamalan hogpile anymore.
-
It's a fantasy world, you plum. Why can't a "white-kid" be in a buddhist-style temple? Do go in expecting to see a Starbucks in the background you moron.
-
"M. Night Shyamalan's".... hmmm I didn't know he created it.
-
It says "An M. Night Shyamalan FILM".
-
...Merrick posts. They're all the same.
He posts some old information about some movie. Mentions that he isn't interested in said movie. Whatever movie. All movies. Finish it off with a terrible attempt at humor. Rinse and repeat. It's been the same damn thing since his first day here as an editor. -
Surprisingly because you'd figure M Night totally lost it but, yeah, sick trailer
-
Christ!
-
...were you expecting it to be scary? Because, see, it's a fantasy movie for kids about a boy with power over the four elements who has to save the world.
-
If you care or think this project looks or sounds even remotely interesting, you are now not as cool as Merrick. Glad that needless little nugget was dropped in the post for all of us to be aware.
-
Hyuck hyuck hyuck. Fucking moron.
-
Merrick can actually write. I can only conclude that he's one lazy fucker--at least when it comes to his "job" at AICN.
-
I guess we can only complain about WHITE hack filmmakers, like Tim Story. Ooops, my bad. Captain Katanga get down from your soap box and fuck yourself now please.
-
It might be good. I will, of course, remain open-minded. But, IMO, M. Knight has never NOT sucked. "Sixth Sense," IMO, was a shallow, gimmicky, derivative turn that fooled a lot of people. (Ooh, he was dead along. How original.)
-
Oh, sorry. M. "NIGHT" ...Don't get me started about that retarded pseudonym.
-
The politically correct demagogues like Hobo believe it is racist because they FEEL it. And if they FEEL it...it must be true. Not for a micro second did I read those comments and think 'racism'....but you see, in their book that is proof that I am a racist who just doesn't know it yet. Go figure.
-
Look, M. Night is a perfectly competent filmmaker who bought into his own bullshit and as a result produced work that was an inferior parody of his earlier successes. You know, like George Lucas or Steven Spielberg (well, some of the time). The point is he's certainly not the first victim of early success. Anyway, I don't expect it to be amazing but keep in mind M. Night also wrote "Stuart Little," which turned out to be pretty classic, and so this is a return to form of sorts and one I welcome more readily than another "Sixth Sense" knock-off. Finally, even his worst movies have flashes of brilliance and "Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable," and "Signs" hold up quite well. Well, except for that water bit at the end, because it makes no fucking sense, but whatever, swing away.
-
I'm calling it right now - Tyler Durden is only a figment of the narrator's imagination.
-
Actually had a good point for once on his show the other day. That the trailer made it look a lot like Harry's Potter films.
-
My sentiments exactly. We don't want him to fail, because he does have talent. But there have been the occasion where he's opened his mouth quite widely, just enough to fit his foot in it.
-
The twist ending was actually not the "point" of that film. It was in fact the least interesting aspect of the film. FIGHT CLUB is a classic because of the journey, the action, the characters, the satire, the inflammatory message. I love that film, but to be honest, each time i watch the dvd, I bail out before the twist ending. Twist endings, IMO, are seldom worth the effort.
-
I'm not sure about the movie...are they going to cram the whole thing into one movie? Are they going to do each of the "books" (i.e. water, earth and fire) into a movie? Is there a script somewhere?
-
Nice big cock. Even if it was stolen from Ingmar Bergman.
-
and a slap in the ass to all the bandwagoneers who hate M Night just for the sake of hating on him. all the dick heads who all parrot the regurgitation of 'sixth sense was his only good film' will be pleasantly surprised by this one.
-
You nut in your pants every time you get some new pics of Avatar or the Last Air Bender. So, why are you so eager to put Air Bender pics up so fast? Because I have to? Where all GEEKS here. Dont be afraid of your true self. Ya douche bag.

If Lady in the Water and the Village were a bandwagon my friend.
by brannagins law
... then they was chartered for hell
-
M Night needs to stop smoking his own ego. He made two good movies -- Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Everything else he's done has been AWFUL, but he still thinks he's a genius. What a TWEEST!
-
Huh?
-
Why don't you guys request the studio to, yknow, kiss your ass? "What happened? Did your balls fall off?"
-
Except for Dev as Zuko. That makeup is ridiculous.
-
I don't consider this trailer bad at all. In fact, it's quite interesting. And for once, the traielr is not a bunch of stuff beign shown every fast and edited in an hyper-kinetic style to foll the idiots that something interesting is being shown.I know it's fashionable among the movie geeks who like to suck the cock and kiss the ass of Michael Bay and JJ abrams to piss all over M. Night Shymalan as if he's the devil himself. However, i say this about the guy: at elast he still has enough confidence in his own skilsl as a filmmaker to allow long unintereptuted single take shots in his movie, instead of the aborted hyper-fast cut bullshit that the miserable fucking hacks like Bay and JJ Abrams do. fort hat alone i thank M. Night Shymalan. And it will be interesting to see what he will do using big spefial effects with his trademarked slow paced long shots. It will certainly look like a nice alternative to the super-edited retardness of Transformers 2 and JJ's Star Trek shit.
-
Was it intentional?
-
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i suspect you are a major fan of Takashi Miike. And i also have the Gozu movie DVD. Miike rules!
-
I have seen far worst movies then The Happening. And those far worst movies were kissed in the ass by moronic geeks here at AICN who still mistake Michael Bay and JJ abrams as good directors even if they are older then 13 years old.
-
How the fuck you can acess the boredom of the kid's face when you barely even get a glimpse of his face form the trailer? you are just shooting shit to be cute and oh so trendy and kewl to be a M. Night Shymalan hater... because that's tyhe kewl shit to do, right? For fuck's sakes, if you want to be a basher, do woth withn some interesting and well rounded up arguments, not dumb smart-assery.
-
The Happening sucked. Okay. Fine. That's one. Everything else was EXCELLENT.
-
Jul 17, 2009 5:21:02 PM CDT
Also, why is Merrick posting this if he clearly hates Night?
by dr sauch
If you don't care, give it to someone who does, you fat fuck.
-
And yet I don't remember anyone causing a fuss over that.
Quality of acting>skintone
If they suck at their roles though, then I'll start complaining. -
I've been coming to this site for years, and I've never commented before. Usually I find the asinine rantings of people who have never taken it upon themselves to produce anything creative a little depressing, but I felt compelled to write something today. It's not about the film (which I am excited to see, even with the discrepancies in the cultural backgrounds of the cast.) No. I'm writing about Merrick, and his piss pour attempt at an editorial.
All I can say is this...YOU ARE AN UTTER FAILURE. This is just terrible writing. Seriously, did you phone this one in or what? I have enjoyed you entries in the past, so please redeem yourself and re-write this. Take a minute to do some research and give it another go. The fans of the site deserve as much, and your talent warrants nothing less. -
Who honestly gives a shit about this fucking movie? The cartoon's crap, Shyamalan's proof you don't always get better at something the more you do it, and none of the actors even look convinced. When your lead kid sports a "what the fuck have I gotten myself into" look of miserable uncertainty in his big breakout role, you've got BIG problems.
-
"The Happening sucked. Okay. Fine. That's one. Everything else was EXCELLENT."
I disagree.
Sixth Sense - good
Unbreakable - superb
Signs - not to everyone's tastes, but I loved it
The Village - weak
Lady in the Water - god-awful -
Why can't this website ever add simple fucking LINE BREAKS?
Jesus.
Sixth Sense - good Unbreakable - superb Signs - not to everyone's tastes, but I loved it The Village - weak Lady in the Water - god-awful -
Twist at the end. He's actually the penultimate airbender.
-
Either that or he decides to stop being a bender and goes straight.
For some it's a lifestyle choice. -
blah blah bring balance... Who fucking came up with this generic shit?
Looks no better than that shitfest Bulletproof Monk movie. -
It was just a comment. Calm down. It's gonna be alright. And if I can't get from the picture that the airbender kid is bored, how can you get from my 6 word comment that I'm a M. Night hater?
-
It's just the way his face is. He has big lips.
-
I have one of those faces, and people usually mistake my non-expressive face as a bored or unfriendly face.
-
Fuck him.
-
I see what you're saying, Estacado1. So, why cast this kid as the un-emotional face of a potential franchise? I'm not "hating" on the movie but just wondering. A simple thought, that's all.
-
"A warrior who will bring balance to the force. A..." Shit guys, the clichee computer crashed again!!
In case i haven't mentioned it enough before: FUCK YOU, HOLLYWOOD! -
I got a question, though: Where the fuck is Toph?
-
From the looks of this trailer they finally made "Star Wars Kid - The Movie", so more power to them...
-
Yeah I love that the "fantasy world" excuses abound for this bullshit casting, yet those same people defending it will go and bitch about characters being changed for other film adaptations. You're dumb.
-
So she's a no show for this movie.
-
...keep their white casting. But an asian inspired story get's it's casting white washed under the shitty excuse that it's trying to be racially diverse. It's fucking bullshit.
-
you're dead
-
The raisins and shit are in the pudding. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Fucking morons.
I also don't really give a shit about this post, except to say that the TV show was pretty cool and the movie may be awesome. It also may suck balls. Let's hope it's the former. -
Asimov's a fuckin' foreigner. He's also a complete asshole who tells everyone what they're thinking because they're apparently too goddamned stupid to know it themselves, and he is the 'ultimate authority' on what movies are good and what are "shit". (good: Dark Knight, Dark Knight, uhhhhh Dark Knight?; bad: Star Trek 2009, Watchmen, etc.) In any case, don't feed the fucking trolls. but I lol'd indeed, hoping that you were fully aware of his 'disability' of being foreign as fuck.
-
I was bored, what can I say?
-
I'm just starting up book 2 of Avatar... for a fucking kids show it is BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF ALL hollywood action/adventure movies. Great character development, well thought out action sequences, epic storytelling & suprisingly serious undertones.
No way M. Night is gonna get it right though. Looks like he is trying to be too serious with it. You can't get too serious when you need a giant white bison with a platypus tail as a main character. -
Personally, I can't stand most of M. Night's work. I used to like "The Sixth Sense," but the string of increasingly hollow movies he released after that soured me on his paper-thin storytelling.
He's an auteur, yes. He takes chances, yes. I give him that.
But I find most of his films poorly conceived, embarrassingly one-dimensional, and even cringe-inducing. I can't help it, I just do. My main complaint is that he has no real grasp of drama. None. He's too afraid of honest emotion, too nerdy to really kick some ass, and it shows.
That said, I hope "The Last Airbender" pushes him in a more constructive direction. The trailer looked pretty good, so I'm hopeful M. Night took his medicine. -
but greatly disliked signs and unbreakable. i've never seen the village or the sixth sense, but I know their plot twists. that said, airbender looks like shit. it's mostly to do with the casting, so hopefully when we get a full trailer, i can judge things based on how everyone in the film acts.
-
M. Night lost his shit after Unbreakable. If he ever had it at all.
-
i used to be m.night's biggest defender, but after the shit he made 3 times in a row, i thought he would turn down the ego a bit. not even the world best directors would put their name above the title. can you believe this guy? you'd think aang is his own original creation.
-
M. Night is tremendously talented, along with having some terrible flaws. This is a great story and setting... if he controls himself, it could really be an epic film.
-
in the talkback... the ones who say the kids should all be asian.
-

M, Shabadabadingdong's Avatar: The Last Airbender
by richard_gere_raped_my_gerbil
Bit of a mouthful wasn't it?
-
Actually, only two of those kids should be Asian. The other two in the parkas are supposed to be dark-skinned Inuits. Or, you, at people who are some shade of *brown.*
-
And the voice actor argument is pretty weak. By that logic, Bart Simpson is a middle-aged woman and Samurai Jack is a black man.
-
Seriously.
He's a grade A cockfag with zero talent.
-
I love that movie and sixth sense but everything else has been garbage. Signs, Village, LITW & The Crappening...all shite. The best thing about shyamalan is the scene he "Inspired" in scary movie 3...as played by Ajay Naidu.
-
even if you want to say the series is based in fantasy world, it's still a world that is obviously influenced by our real world. look at their respective clothing designs and architectures presented. the air tribe is tibetans, the water tribe innuits/eskimos, fire chinese, earth japanese. racism has nothing to do with it. this movie is, as often in hollywood when it comes to asian stories, whitewashed. how would you whiteys like it if aragorn and legolas are played by chinese?
you'd think after the overwhelming success of crouching tiger hollywood would be more opened to other ethnicities taking the leads. -
apparently you guys still cant accept asians on the big screen. jackie chan has to be paired up with a loudmouth black comedian. stephen chow, the biggest start in asia, was, at best, only offered to play chauffeur to seth rogen(thank god that didnt happen!). and since when did chun li turn into caucasian(half asian my ass!)? and you guys have the nerve to call people racist for wanting the avatar to be asian???
i'd love to see your reaction when they remake starwars, and darth vader and luke played by blacks. after all, it's only a fantasy world. -
Avatar, the Last Airbender is frankly one of the best animated series to come out of the US in the last 10 years. I enjoyed Signs, Sixth Sense and Unbreakable and parts of Lady in the Water and the Village. I can leave Wide Awake and The Happening. What disappoints me is that your utter disregard for the film is based on your feeling towards Shyamalan but you as a professional writer should do your audience the decency of at least considering the source material. And not dismissing it out of hand. You have let yourself down, Merrick. This sort of thing almost makes you no better than the lazy, downright ignorant or at worst racist posters who refer to him as Shamaladingdong. You can do better than this Merrick.
-
is due solely to Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment. Shamalot was just lucky to get them. His subsequent movies prove he has no real talent, he's just a ball of narcissism. The Amex commercial is the most embarassing thing he could have done, and no surprise, he gave it his all.
-
than any other in recent memory. Merrick is not obligated to fucking tapdance for you and jerk you off while you look at your fucking stupid pictures of your fucking stupid movie by your fucking stupid director.
You guys are seriously a bunch of whiny little pussies with far too great a sense of entitlement.
Maybe that's just what anime does to people, I don't know. -
does not like little pussies DAMIT!! He does'nt like pussy at all, dont you understand. He likes the cock, big harry COCK....and balls. mosley
-
was so he could hate on M. Night.
-
I'm portuguese. What's your escuse? Besides, you assumed i was american. Which means my english cannot be all that bad if you automatically assumed i was your countrymen.
-
That's hysterical!! Funny, i though that at the start of the trailer, bu eventually the trailer won over me, and the final images was pure awesome. I'm sold on this movie. But man, "Star Wars Kid - The Movie", that's hysterical!
-
If M. Night Shymalan is what you consider untalented, what are the talernted ones for you? The retarded, stupid, uncultured, egomaniac, idiotic, untalented, rat-faced abortions Michael Bay and JJ Abrams? Those are the fucking shits you call talented? Inquiring minds beg to know.
-
I know an american who refused to return to AICN thanks to Merrick's reviews and editorials. And i'm not kidding, it's the true, he guy was so upset and revolted with Merrick's work on AICN he vowed never to return here.
-
Bullshit, my friend. Part of the sucess of Sixth sense and Unbreakble are due to M. Night Shymalan. Undoubetly that Osment is a very talented young actor, but nobody until Shymalan had used him to his full talent potential. He saw somthing in the kid nobody had beena ble to deliver before. And don't forget, Shymalan also WROTE the script. As for Bruce Willis, despiste the love we have for him, people would be lying to themselves if they wouldn't notice how inconsistent he is in his acting. He only delivers full great acting with really good directors. Or else he gets lazy, and goes for his usual bag of tricks. Only very good directors have coaxed him great performances, like Terry Gilliam for Twelve Monkeys, or M. Night Shymalan for Sixth Sense and Unbreakably.Another proof of Shymalan's talent as a director is he is confident enough to use very long takes and slow camwera movements. Hacks like your beloved piece of shit JJ Abrams hide behind quick cuts and fast camera tricks to hide their lack of ideas about shot composition and mise en scene. Shymalan directs EVERY SCENE with that always in mind, always maximizing the effect of a shot for each scene. And he does that even on his worst movies. and any bad Shymalan movie is much better shot then the best that your beloved piece of mediocre crap bullshit JJ Merda Abrams can even dream, much less achieve. You might not liek him, but M. Night Shymalan is the real deal, and it would be wise of you if you started noticing the obvious.
-
Shymalan IS Shymalan. The man has his own style, and that's far more then we can say for the vast majority of the filmmakers out there, including some stupid untalented shit magpies which at best can only do bad parodies of much better and talented filmamkers, shits like Michael Bay, JJ Abrams and the idiot who directed the first Blade and LXG, and all those type of mediocre untalented hacks that AICN geeks love to suck their dicks, swallow their cum and ask for more.
-
As shitty as Bay is, he has yet to create anything remotely as awful as The Happening.
-
Bye,Bye... Douche
-
Fucking terradactyls, they come out of no where. They dont care who you are or what you've done, they just want to get you.
-
Star Wars - A New Hope, the one that started it all, WAS a remake of Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, replacing Japanese actors with American and English ones. If you don't believe me, watch the Hidden Fortress and try to tell me it's not the exact same plot.
-
is Caucasian.
-
As much as I usually think you're an asshole, I gotta agree about Shyamalan. I don't understand all the hate for him that is so present here. But who knows... Now, the world is gonna end. Shit.
-
Did I miss something?
-
He's the weakest link at AICN. He's easily the least professional and most snarky. All in all, he embodies the every cliche about internet geeks. More Vern and less Merrick would do this site a world of good. I hardly visit here anymore.
-
and needs to get assraped by david carradine's flaccid rotting penis. how's that for necrophilia you fucking elementary writer?
-
Jul 18, 2009 4:10:48 PM CDT
sorry, rbatty, Merrick NOT the weakest link in the AICN chain
by kaiser soze
That honor falls to Herc, who seems to only cover TV he likes and brushes the rest aside, despite fan favor or ratings (Rescue Me, Weeds, and True Blood for examples). He also seems to have an intimate sexual relationship with the word "penultimate". If I had to choose one AICN writer who needs to go, it's Herc, not Merrick.

Your post makes no sense. What's my excuse? I don't have an excuse. You just can't write the language that well, that's all. And once again, with the assuming crap, I never assumed you were from America or one of my countrymen. All I said was "Work on you spelling". If I can't get from the picture that the airbender kid looks bored, how can you get that I think you're american from that 4 word comment?
Oh, Star Trek 2009 rules, muthafucker!
And you still need to work on your spelling. -
So, you have that on me. In fact, I can't speak any foreign languages. So, I have to give anyone who does a little bit of respect.

By the way: A word of Advice for Shyamalan and Studios
by --- emperor ---
Please, if you make a trailer, don't try to sell it on Shyamalan's name. His last several films have been insipid flops. Shyamalan does not have a bankable name, so if you wish to sell a movie, keep his meaningless name out of it. I guarantee you, you'll be better off.
-
I'm sure you're advice is very much appreciated by the studio. Do you want to also give them your cell number in case they have any pressing follow-up questions? Also, when would be the best time to contact you?
Moron. -
Of course, I meant to say 'your' and not 'you're'!
-
M Nights last 3 movies have been commercial and Critical failures. He has a point M nights name is not worth what it used to be.
-
Again, I ask, who gives a fuck?
-
...because they'd ask me what I thought the twist would be and 4 out 6 times (Sixth, Signs, Unbreakable, Village) I was right and spoiled it for them.
-
ROOM 6, and DESPERATION, for example. and i never finished THE VILLAGE; it bored me to tears. ALSO, CAN WE PLEASE PUT 'THE CHOSEN ONE' AND 'BRING BALANCE' TO REST, FOREVER, LIKE, NOW? i am adding any and all future films that further abuse those terms on my boycott list
-
i've seen enough kurosawa films to know that's not the only film lucas ripped off for ideas. plot and the 2 droids from hidden fortress, jabba and obi wan from red beard, and some scenes ripped off from yojimbo as well. but stil, you cant that is a direct adaption. this m.night movie though IS a direct adaptation, and as such should respect its source.
-
Come on, you can do better than this. Don't dismiss something out of hand if you haven't experienced it. Try watching Avatar. I kid you not- Avatar the Last Airbender is right up there with the best anime, like Full Metal Alchemist. Here's what you need to do: rent the DVD of ATLA: Book of Fire. It includes the last 3 eps of the series and it kicks Rosie O'Donnell-sized ass. Especially watch the episode "The Ember Island Players", in which the Avatar gang sneak into a village theater to watch a play written about them. Their reactions to the mischaracterizations and factual errors are a riot. This ep pokes gentle fun at the show and its fans and it is freaking hilarious. And then watch the series finale. That is simply freaking EPIC. It'll change your mind I guarantee. THEN comment on the upcoming live-action film. You may still be a hater, but you'll be an educated hater, and I can at least respect that.
-
He's said time and time again he's a sci fi fan, a Star Trek fan, and a Kurosawa fan.
-
...from the fucking wind.
Fuck M. Night. How many millions of studio dollars has he stolen from film-makers who could actually produce a decent movie?? -
Everyone likes to shit on Shyamalan. His movies are good, and thank God he's out there being imaginative and trying new things. What, all you idiots loved the Transformers series as well? Lining up already to see GI Joe?
-
I had my issues with him years ago, he was snarky, I was really nasty back to him, etc. But ya know, I like the guy. His STAR TREK love is pure and he's got a sense of humor. I understand why some of you dislike him (I was there, trust me) but he's an honest geek. If he doesn't give a shit about Shyamalan... well, can you blame the guy? Shyamalan has some amends to make with his audience. LADY and HAPPENING were misses (I do like aspects of LADY, I'll admit, but objectively it's a mess). But Merrick reflects a prevailing attitude among filmgoers- the "Director of THE SIXTH SENSE" has gone AWOL and maybe this movie is his comeback. But until it's out, I too will remain skeptical.
So, you hardcore AIRBENDER fans- relax. -
You cite two cartoons that were adapted to the big screen as unimaginative. Dude, THE LAST AIRBENDER is a cartoon adapted to the big screen... just sayin.

Well, that's partially correct. The TBers did like Iron Man and Dark Knight.
-
May you find peace in your anger.
-
Why such a harsh and catty post? The trailer doesn't look that bad. You guys are pricks sometimes, the tone was completely uncalled for. Is this what a post secondary education pays for these days?
-
Seriously, if you think Merrick was being a dick, ask yourselves "why do I care?" He can editorialize all he likes. It's his fucking JOB actually. No wonder Shyamalan broke down in tears when the Disney exec told him "You need to fix your script to LADY IN THE WATER." The world's filled with nothing but victims, I gues...
-
Hey -- ENOUGH with the misplaced hate for Merrick. Fucking ENOUGH!
Many of you are suffering group-think myopia and it's VERY ugly. Merrick's a long-time contributor to AICN, and I can think of several scoops and articles that he's written that have been entertaining, well-written, and insightful. You might not agree with him, but so the fuck what? Instead of posting girlish, same-sounding "I hate Merrick" posts, deliver us a counterargument to something he's written. Give us something specific.
Because otherwise you're just being little bitches. -
Yep, he has big shoes to fill. But If he fucks this one up also, then so long Uwe Boll, and Hello Shyamalan!
-
or whatever. It looks like one of those fake american animes. And I am not even partial to real ones of late. However this looks pretty close to the cartoon. Unlike that dragonball abomination that made only like 2 million opening week. I am really not interested in this other then I find it sad that this could be respectful to its source.
-
It's not an opinion or a position or a perspective. It's nothing.
Merrick is fine but I'm clearly not the only one here burnt out on AICN peeps posting about Airbender stuff with the preface of "Meh, dunno what this is, don't care, here some stuff on some shit."
There has to be somebody at AICN who gives a shit about A:TLA who could take over the duties. Honestly somebody who hated it would be better than this constant meh-fest.
Whether the live action film rocks or sucks, if you haven't seen the tv show the best thing you could do is WATCH IT.It's plain old goodness.
Meanwhile this Avatar usurper, Cameron's Avatar, is a big question mark, yet posts about that thing always contain skull-fucking enthusiasm.
-
It's saying "this isn't important to me as of now." It's a judgment on the part of Merrick.
Look, you seem pretty reasonable, so I gotta ask- what difference does it make if the whole site thinks little of this project? If 4 or 5 people don't get revved up like you are, does that really make a difference in the long run? No. And if the movie rocks, you can do the "I told ya so!" happy dance. Revenge is a dish that is best served... happy! Chin up, dude- this is not even something worth your show will have its day. -
this is not even something worth your worry. Your show will have its day.
FIN. -
Only stupid people try to pretend that it is. The next person that sincerely uses the word 'sheeple' deserves to be put in some moderate amount of pain, like a sprained ankle.
-
It's from Robot Chicken. They did an episode or two, busting on M. Night where he kept running into these lame plot-twist scenarios. After which he would say "What a TWEEST!" The voice actor pronounced it as such.
-
A slang word.
-
In my opinion anyways. I don't know if the movie will be any good, that's not my issue. For a site called Aint It Cool News to post multiple bits of news about Airbender (the original of which is beyond cool, imho) with the attitude that it's not even worthy of attention seems like a disconnect.
It's not that big a deal, and the # of posts I've made on the matter overstates my passion for the matter. I just wanted to clarify. -

by yackbacker
And Merrick's criticism is probably more about Shyamalan than the source material. But either way, you can get AIRBENDER news here.
-
You've convinced me to DVR the show. Unfortunately, now that you've made it out to be the greatest television show alive, if its anything less, I'll criticize it in directly inverse proportion to the amount of hyperbole you've bestowed upon it.
-
I had it on all day while I worked. Its some really good stuff; great characters and some very exciting fights. I missed the last episodes of the series, but I've got them DVR'd. Can't wait to see Ang take on Mark Hamill, the Firelord.

i'll actually have to give it half a chance.

and you know what? FUCK YOU, MERRICK.
just kidding, i'd never watch anime. especially not american anime. -
SO THE ARTICLE SHOULD BE IN ASIAN LANGUAGE YOU FUCKING RACISTS
-
This looks really, really, expensive, and I'm surprised anyone would greenlight this project after "The Happening," which was, without exaggeration, the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. On the other hand, he may want a lucrative effects movie to jumpstart his career, but if his poor credibility, combined with the fact that no one knows what the hell an "Airbender" is,
tanks him, he's in serious trouble. -
It's actually filmed pretty well but the premise was just too wonky and the payoff silly. It's not the epic shitfest the hyperbolic geek masses have claimed, that's for sure. As to everything else he's done, I think the Villiage was his weakest and Lady in the Water vastly underrated. The man has the balls to try different things, which is more than I can say about most of this industry.
-
Do foreign remakes of American films exist? Is racial specificity a prerequisite for them as well? I'm not saying this to attack or defend any take...just curious. The thinking seems to be "American filmmakers recast Caucasian actors in roles meant for non-Caucasians due to racism."Are we 100% sure of this? My guess is they're douches who think only white faces sell tickets (whether this is true or not is another discussion). Is there a remake of 'Lethal Weapon' in some Asian country with Asians cast in the roles meant for Caucasians and African-Americans?My guess would be "no"....if they want to watch 'Lethal Weapon' they get (usually very talented voice actors) to do the audio dub. What about American literature? Kids in Asia doing "Our Town" with any available Caucasians or are they recasting with the locals? Not defending Hollywood's apparent need to white-ify everything but just playing mild devil's advocate here and wondering if the reverse exists or would if those types of movies were even made.
-
Watch them all, in order if you can. I envy you!
-
Totally forfeited CGI and pyrotechnics; script focused on human vulnerability as conduit for ghosts (sensitivity is proportionate to spiritiual communication, something previously explored--though rather ambiguously--in 1963's THE HAUNTING). This trailer looks like the overture to a Streisand muscial--M's perceptive storytelling is turning digital.
-
there was this dry sense of humor sprinkled throughout the movie, which i rather enjoyed. sure there where some holes in the plot such as the aliens vulnerability to water but i liked the chemistry the cast had.One time, I was at this party... and I was sitting on the couch with Amanda McKinney. She was just sitting there, looking beautiful. So, I lean in to kiss her, and I realize I have gum in my mouth. So, I turn to spit it out and put it in a paper cup. I turn back, and Amanda McKinney throws up all over herself. I knew the moment it happened, it was a miracle. I could have been kissing her when she threw up. It would have scarred me for life. I may never have recovered.that conversation between mel and joaquin is one of my favorite parts of the movie.
