WEEDS & BREAKING BAD Break Through, But Still Little Love For GALACTICA!! Emmy Noms!!
I am – Hercules!!
Still no love for Edward James Olmos or Mary McDonnell.
No love for the final season of “The Shield.”
The Emmys now consider “Family Guy” a funnier comedy than “South Park” or “The Venture Bros.”
“Big Love” and “Breaking Bad” join the best drama fray, replacing “Boston Legal.”
“Weeds” finally joins the best comedy nominees, as does “Conchords.” (Jemaine also got nominated for acting and writing, and Bret for writing.) "Two and a Half Men" got squeezed out to make room.
Four of the five drama series writing nominations went to episodes of “Mad Men.”
Four of the five comedy series writing nominations went to episodes of “30 Rock.”
“30 Rock” got 22 nominations (including one for Steve Martin), the most ever for a single series in one year.
("Mad Men" and "30 Rock" won the best-series trophies last year; there's no reason to expect they won't do the same in September.)
"Dollhouse" didn't get nominated but "Dr. Horrible" (which is not a TV show) did.
Sarah Silverman got nominated for her program.
SNL got nominated for variety/comedy series, writing, directing, Amy Poehler, Kristin Wiig and (in the guest category) Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake. No love for "MADtv" in its final season.

and less family guy.
-
Awards are a nonsense.
-
What's up with all the ads at the end?!?
I hope dexter wins it all. -
'Frak' just won't do here.
-
PennsyDeux had it right...Frak just won't do here.
BOYCOTT THIS JOKE OF AN AWARDS SHOW! They've shown us for more than five years that they are SHIT!
SO SAY WE ALL! -
30 Rock is crap. Like the Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, it's a pretentious, boring, unfunny sitcom that critics love but that few people watch. I'm glad that Breaking Bad has gotten some love because it's the best show on TV right now, but WTF? No Shield or The Wire, two of the greatest shows of the last decade (or *EVER*). The Shield had possibly one of the greatest series finales ever commited to film and this is the recognition they get? How can anybody take the Emmys seriously when Big Love and Dexter (I love Dexter but season 3 was crap) get noms and the The Shield and The Wire get none? Fuck you, Emmys!
-
The best supporting actor in drama IS tight. Emerson, Paul (thank God), Hurt, Slattery..but one more time for the Shat?? I'd easily put Kartheiser (sp) for Mad Man in that spot. He fucking acted the hell out of that role.No mention of the lack of 24 noms this year? I thought it "came back stronger than ever"...
-
Granted, last year's Star Wars would make a better case for me. I think Flight is artsy fartsy, Weeds is more drama then comedy, Office and 30 Rock have been played out as is Entrouge. HIMYM there is no question that Family Guy is funnier plus Big Bang should have gotten this spot. Of course, NPH is hosting and the show plus himself have been nominated. He deserves the nod and win. Sheldon is a good choice for best actor, but won't win. Baldwin for his 800th award. I will say Sons of Anarchy and Shield got screwed over. Plus, does 30 Rock really deserve all those nominations? Tina should win for playing Palin thus saving human society.
-
They didn't get any other nominations than that.
-
Why do they hate The Shield? Four fucking Mad Men episodes and one Lost episode for drama writing?!?!
WWVMD? -
question again here:Can someone please explain to me the difference between "Outstanding Comedy Series" and "Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series"? Makes even less sense since 30 Rock was nominated in the former, and SNL in the latter, yet in "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" you have both Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Kristin Wiig (Saturday Night Live).Do they usually have 6 - 7 nominations for the big categories?"Four of the five comedy series writing nominations went to episodes of “30 Rock.” "To me that's just laziness on the part of the nominating committee (or whoever decides this). Shows should be limited to 2 nominations per category. Pick the best of the best and force yourself to take a good look at what else is out there. I guess, with 80% of the writing nominations in their respective categories, Mad Men & 30 Rock are both a lock for Best Drama, and Best Comedy, respectively.Did Katherine Heigle recuse herself again this year because "the writers didn't give her anything good to do"? Or are they simply over her? Family Guy gets nominated for Best Comedy Series but nothing under the "Animated Series"? Why make separate distinctions if you are just going to blur the lines?
-
that watched the final season not nominee it for Best Drama, Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor (Goggins)? Instead there is fucking House and Simon Baker.
No Californication, Sons of Anarchy, Galactica, Rescue Me? No Duchovny or Jeremy Puven but Jon fucking Cryer, Shatner and Charlie Sheen? You got to be kidding.
Kudos though for Breaking Bad, Big Love and yes Family Guy. Compared to Two and a Half men or Big Bang Theory it's pure comedy gold. -
WTF? Michael Chicklis? Walton Goggins? Jay Karnes?
And I'm sorry but as much as I do like LOST, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Damages, and BSG --- "Possible Kill Screen"/"Family Meeting" were imho the strongest written episodes of any series of 2008.
And best. Finale. Ever. *BEEP* the Emmys. :/ -
They are ga-ga for "Big-Screen Actors" doing TV: Holly Hunter, Glen Close, Toni Collett, Branagh, Kline. Then there are their friends: Alan Alda, Ed Asner, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, Shatner. Maybe in 10 years things will change.-----later-----m

The Wire's final season was last year, when it got its first
by big jim
and only Emmy nomination for writing. Like I said above, 4 nominations for one show for writing is laziness on the part of those nominating shows. Sure, Mad Men is a great show with great writing, but so was The Shield. Very different shows so it is not easy to compare. It seems, instead of making the effort to compare the best writing of Mad Men with the best of The Shield, those nominating decided Mad Men was better and gave them all the nominations (save for the token "other show" to create some suspense as to "which show will win" on awards night).

Cause I'm lazy, I'ma cutting and pasting more HBO vitriol...
by pennsydeux
They got 99 nominations today. I can't remember the last time a broadcast network led the pack. IMO, HBO is the worst thing that ever happened to the Emmys. They were held to a lower standard than the other broadcast networks, shows that were limited series in length, less than 10 episodes wound up being nominated in comedy and drama series. A lot of actors and series over the last decade got cockblocked in the rush to shower HBO with praise. The only good thing to come out of this is that True Blood joins BSG on the sidelines and for once, a prior Oscar win doesn't rubber-stamp an Emmy nom (*coughAnnaPaquincough*)
-
Greatest show of all time. Wire can suck it. It's better for not having any nominations this year. Buncha stiff assholes sitting in a room smelling their own farts. That's not The Shield's way. The people who vote on this stuff should be Terry Crowley'd.
-
Seriously, The Wire was good. All their other shows now are overrated trash.
"Hey lets nominate [lame HBO show that isnt The Wire] for 99 awards because its on the same cable network that made The Wire, look how cool we are" -Emmy judge -
Who watches that anymore? Same with Survivor? Besides old people.
-
Why do people put stock in award shows anyway? There's always some agenda and there's always a bunch of under-the-table congratulatory hand jobs. These people work five months out of a year and then we hand them a gold statue. Vic Mackey would melt his gold statue and shape it into a bullet which he would then fire into the skull of an Armenian mobster. Then he would put the gun in the mobsters hand to make it look self inflicted. Then he would eat breakfast.
-
Bad ending.
-
Thanks. I was sitting here wondering why my below-average size wasn't improving through the sheer willpower of this emmy discussion. Thank god I have you to remind us that that's not how science works... whew.

So Weeds finally gets nominated for Best Comedy Series when it's
by castor778
Seriously - it gets overlooked when it's a really good show. Now 2 very depressed seasons later when you can go through 2-3 episodes without laughing once and it gets nominated? That's pathetic. Really don't get the HBO hatred on these boards though - it's kind of sad actually. Just because the other networks have finally caught up to making as good of shows as HBO means doesn't mean HBO sucks now - they've been staying steady even after all their major hits have ended. And seeing how this is a AICN board - I'm going to laugh my ass off once when A Game Of Thrones airs and see you all kiss its ass and say how everything else sucks in comparison. Just saying.
-
Yes. I apologize if my Wire comment cut deep. I suppose it was a little harsh. Are you a fan of that show? Let's be friends. Here, I'll send you an Omar Little bobblehead. I'm sure you both have a lot in common...
-
...the late start? It's INSANE they wouldn't get any major nods.

Too many Emmy voters got snookered into the "It's Not TV- It's H

mantra. HBO got every advantage it asked for, right down to extending the deadline for nominations when their precious Sopranos finale DUE TO THEIR OWN FUCKED-UP SCHEDULING WOULD AIR PAST THE DEADLINE DATE. Seeing the Emmys kowtow to HBO for the past decade is like Kevin Bacon in Animal House; the 'thank you, sir, may I have another?' scene.
-
Bunch of c!ntmuscles.
-
If you didn't watch that show you are missing out on the best form of entertainment in any medium.
-
That show has been amazing from the very beginning to the absolute end and people will be watching it and talking about it long after the rest of this dreck is so much syndication fodder on USA and TNT. The Shield may be the best show to ever grace the medium and if not it is certainly in the top 5. Also, Eastbound and Down is one of the funniest shows on TV period. I'm also floored that Deadliest Catch isn't on the nom list for reality considering it is one of the few reality shows that is, you know, actually REAL.
-
Daniel Faraday is my constant.
-
Has kind of sucked this season. Just can't get into it. It feels too forced right now.
-
Juliet is my constant.
-
Seven drama series nominations and they still fucked over BSG.
-
I don't get why 30 Rock gets a lot of love. I means it's a decent comedy. But I would have like to have seen more newer shows. Better off ted,Party down and my personal favourite this year earthbound and down. Also no love for Friday Night Lights,Rescue Me is so good this year and all they give is one nom,True Blood,Southland's Regina King Vs the Bangers Shoot out that scene alone. Good luck to breaking bad and lost through. Very Predictable
-
I can understand the amount of praise for HBO during their Golden Age (The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under and Deadwood all on one channel?!), but not so much anymore (as much as I love Conchords). In fact, a lot of the nods HBO got were not for their, arguably, best show: The Wire. Fuck Emmys.
-
You guys gotta be fucking kidding me. HBO overrated? The Wire, The Sopranos (even though the ending sucked), Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Rome, and yes even Big Love (which IS vastly underrated and the best thing on HBO right now) have all been AMAZING series, and all rightfully deserved praise. Sure, right now HBO isn't what it once was, but let's not go shit all over everything that ever came out of it.
As for nominees who don't deserve it: Family Guy, Entourage, Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, and House.
And I've never found The Shield to be amazing, it's nothing compared to the above mentioned HBO series. Now you can all go back to sucking Michael Chiklis' dick. -
only 1 nomination (at that's for the "Big Screen Star Slumming it for One Episode" award). On second thought, I don't think "despondent" is the right word. What is the word, when you are extremely giddy and you laugh so hard you poop your pants? Anyway, I guess, like with Katherine Heigle, Emmy is over DH. Now the only question is when will they stop fellating 2 1/2 Men?
-
You so wrong, it's the best it's been in years.
-
Horrible.
-
I don't need your permission to suck Michael Chiklis' dick!
-
And are wearing terribly thin
-
Hell fucking yeah. And wow...mostly no love for BATTLESTAR (as Herc mentions), but awesome to see Michael Rymer getting a directing nod for the final episode.
-
also, no bear mccreary = frak you
-
Finally although last seasons episodes where way better then season 2. It's still nice to see them get some recognition.
-
Really now.
-
The best show on tv!
-
Conchords was real genius. Amazing to see tv take a step into the experimental.
-
"What is the word, when you are extremely giddy and you laugh so hard you poop your pants?"
Drunk is the technical term. -
Biffs_Pleasure_Paradise, HBO IS a very overrated cable network, and I say that in the present tense.
I love how HBO apologists immediately scream about The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Rome, Carnivale, and Oz.
Guess how many of those shows are still on the air. Zero.
Everything else on HBO is pretty dull now. Of course, the few who still pay for HBO lie to themselves with the whole "its not tv, its hbo!" mantra so they can ease the pain that they've been ripped off. The rest of us are watching FX and AMC. -
30 Rock And Mad Men.
-
Some truly stunning acting this season.
-
Eh I just don't believe it anymore. The friendships don't feel real like they used to. Lou and Tommy feel like they are just going through the motions and defeated. And the addition of Larenz Tate I don't like, he is not very good. He does not fit in naturally at all.
-
they shouldve also nominated bsg but at least they did nominate
breaking bad and dexter family guy is way funnier than the other comed
ies nominated this year
-
This is crap!
-
But Jemaine Clement for Best Actor in a comedy Series.
You have to be kidding me? -
Fuck the TV Academy.
-
Because its REALITY show section sucks. Not putting Pitchmen on that list, terrible idea. That show was awesome. Antiques Roadshow? Really does that fucking count? Ummm I found this in my basement? $500! Its old! Dirty Jobs, this is ok. I don't watch it but I respect it. Dog Whisperer. Sucks the Me or the Dog lady is better, Ceaser's methods don't work. Intervention. Its ok, only seen a couple. Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. I do not understand how this is even considered a show. MythBusters. It was ok 6 years ago. Pitchmen was amazing, I thought that before Billy died as well. Check that show out if you haven't.
-
As a huge fan of the show from the beginning, I have to say the last season was horse shit, and the series finale was tepid at best. "Ooo, we'll have Starbuck just... disappear!"
Also disappointed Lost didn't have a better showing, though nice to see it's actually nominated.
I still enjoy 30Rock, but there's a little something missing from this season that was there during the first season. Not that I'm complaining, it's still one of the best comedies on TV. Somewhat surprised by The Office snubs, but also not really that surprised, since that's been a little all over the place too, though it would have been nice to see Edris Alba or Amy Ryan nods. -
Aaron Paul's nomination makes up some for the other omissions. I find it hard that the best five best drama scripts of the year were four Mad Men Episodes, and the Lost finale. Yay for Mythbusters and No Reservations.Awards are always a mixed bag at best, so nothing new. In the future, the best work will be appreciated for its merits, not on how many awards it received.
-
fucking primitive talkbacks. And like S7, I will concede that Mythbusters nom is an achievement nod; it was much better when they actually did real myths instead of just finding reasons to blow shit up, though that can still be entertaining.
-
Where the industry gives awards to every shit HBO show and ignores their own network!
-
Yet Lost is overlooked once again. Fuck that shit.
-
It's all stupid movie shit on that show. MOVIES AREN'T REAL MYTHBUSTERS!! Fuck it.
-
It's my favorite show and definitely the most fascinating program, perhaps ever, on TV, but in terms of being the best drama, Breaking Bad and Mad Men should both get the nod before Lost.
-
Umm, not that i have anything against Family Guy (I think it's a funny show) but why now? In all the years it's been on it has not brought anything new to the table? each episode is pretty much the same, for better or worse. So why no Venture Brothers? That show deserves nomination for Hank Venture alone. (I am the Bat!).
Also I'm a little suprised to see Better Off Ted being snubbed. It's no 30 Rock for sure but world above Weeds (which is probably the most disingenous show on TV right now in the sense that the entire plot is created for the sake of a cliffhanger at the end of each show, with each character being a plot device. It's like desperate houswives with profanity) -
you'd get absolutely no complaints from me. Betcha Fox gets it for Rescue Me as a nod for the show, and a atta-boy for Michael. And he did kick ass.
-
Second season Breaking Bad > second season of Mad Men. And I love both shows. Can't wait for August. Guess it helps that my Dad worked for BBD&0 in the sixties...
-
Yeah, I agree it is overrated in the present tense. I stated in my post that HBO is not what it was now. My anger fueled post wasn't so much apologizing for HBO now, it was more of a slam to those elitists who claim The Wire is the only good thing that came out of HBO. I shoulda been more clear.
-
Venture Bros is much better than Family Guy. But then, I'd say It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is better than Entourage, so what do I know..?
-
Well, you can't have everything. I rather like that its a cult show that hasn't hit the mainstream. And FX backs tremendously...
-
the show and anyone associated with it shouldn't win any awards.
-
Doesn't Alec Baldwin get nominated every fucking year anwyway?
-
McGooCain is an anti-discussion conversationist.
-
Spread the love a little. What the fuck is the difference. Like those 4 episodes were the BEST written episodes on television last year, hands down, with no other show competing except one episode of Lost. That is literally the silliest thing I've ever heard. Not that the writing on Mad Men isn't impeccable...because it really is.
-
Nancy Botwin has lost everything that made her appealing. (except her looks) She's just a nasty gun moll now.
-
The Somebody Should Be Charged With a Crime For NOt Being Nomiated List: Denis Leary, The Shield and BSG. Michael J. Fox was hillarious on Rescue Me, but that's criminal that he's the only noimination the show could get. How does The Shiled not get nominated? Thugh it wasn't this season, I'm still upset that Lem died. BSG - this one should be brought before the Supreme Court.
-

Even though Mad Men has saturated the best writing market, Lost
by iamnicksaicnsn
I still think Lost Season Finale shouldn't win. As much as I love the show, the introduction of Jacob and his rival out of the blue was just too much to take. If I can make it to the Lost panel at Comic-Con I definitely want to ask Lindelof and Cuse how they can justify not having Jacob at least earlier in the season, if not in the earlier seasons.
-
1. Possible Kill Screen (The Shield)
2. -30- (The Wire)
3. The Incident (LOST)
4. The Oath (BSG)
5. Phoenix (Breaking Bad)
6. Underdogs (FNL)
7. Do You Take Dexter Morgan? (DEXTER)
8. Lucifer Rising (Supernatural)
9. There's More Than One of Everything (Fringe)
10. Revelator (SoA) -
Well, it didn't suck, but it wasn't Emmy worthy. The Lost final was more Emmy worthy.
-
Huh? Jacob has been hinted as early as season 3. The concept of two forces of good and evil have been prevalent since the first season. The Man in Black AKA Smokey AKA Christian Shephard have been around since Season 1. Imho "The Incident" was AMAZING. And nothing was "out of the blue", except Mark Pellegrino (who was *phenomenal*). I liked it ALOT better than Mad Men, just my .02.
-
4 writing nominations for 30 Rock and Mad Men is just fucking stupid. I love Mad Men to an insane degree, but there were episodes of Damages, Breaking Bad, and tons of other things that deserved attention. Aaron Paul getting nominated is great. Silverman nominated is great. Jemaine and FROBISHER getting nominated is great, but unfortunately I feel the "popular" choices will beat out the "fan favorites". I suppose maybe I'm frustrated as I just got notes back from a pilot I pitched to FOX, but it's just depressing to see what is being honored and not honored in Hollywood.
-
since the first season, too
-
Carnivale explored it much, much better. Not to say that Lost still isn't great.
-
That is one of the absolutely best dramatic performances by a woman I have ever seen. Peggy is great, but can anyone say that she is more deserving than watching the breaking down of Betty Draper?
-
It was a fucking Twilight Zone episode stretched out for too long.
-
I love Dexter but the season finale was kinda week. Why kill Jimmy Smits the ep. before if he's the main bad? The faceoff with the Skinner was anticlimactic. And that scene with James Remar?
"Dexter, they aren't my tears"
It's like the show is owned by CBS or something! -
weak*
-
is just like when The Sopranos used to dominate years ago...
-
Ya I agree OceanWang, the finale was a bit anticlimactic... that being said, MCH is great, he really makes the show.
-
Winter is Coming is running with Sean Bean as Eddard Stark in HBOs Game of Thrones.
-
If you were to remove MCH, would people still like it nearly as much? The supporting cast is often trash, and while the second season had pretty great writing, the third season was shaky I felt...
-
I mean, I watched all of Season 2. The writing was okay imho. Not bad at all, but not earthshattering either.
I'd say I've seen WWAAAAAAY better writing in countless other shows like Wire, FNL, Breaking Bad, LOST, or Shield. -
MCH is awesome. The show needs to get a little dirty again though. I'm hoping John Lithgow blows shit up. He's exactly the kinda crazy that show needs. Exhibit A: Harry and the Hendersons.
Things are going too well for Dexter. I want blood! I hope Rita gets offed. I like the actress but the character is unbearable. -
Rent Revolutionary Road. Its like the cliff notes of Mad Men.
-
Mad Men is a fine show, but perhaps not to everyone's taste. S1 leaned too heavily on the atmosphere, but S2 was an improvement. You're right though, "Kill Screen" and the pitch-perfect "Family Meeting" should have been in there somewhere, along with Goggins and Pounder. Chiklis got his, Pounder has a good rep, but it's criminal that Goggins was never recognized.
-
I've watched every single episode and I just don't get it I guess. It's just a soap opera; husbands cheating on wives, a secret pregnancy, people stabbing each other in the back. Is this great drama? Where are the powerful scenes comparable to Vic Mackey confessing his sins or Shane Vendrell calling for a "Family Meeting"...? Or Ronnie getting dragged away to prison as Vic can only stand there and watch, consumed with guilt? Oh but Don Draper had a scene where he acted stiff and unemotional towards his wife, so we've got to nominate that instead.
Anyway, good to see Breaking Bad and Damages getting in, at least some quality work is getting recognized. -
That if he saw Revolutionary Road, he never would have written the pilot of Mad Men.
-
I agree with McPoyle Clan. Goggins kept raising his game as time went on. A lesser actor would have made that role a joke. Isn't he getting a show on AnE now though? There's still time!!!

Well, Battlestar gets snubbed again because the Emmy voters are a bunch dickless old farts who are no more in touch with reality than a doped up mental patient. Oh well, remember how the Beatles never won any grammys?
At least "Suck My" Dick Wolf didn't get nominated for anything. I'm so sick of that pompous fuck and his deluded take on reality. And I hear his wife is a stuck up, preening bitch who throws a tantrum whenever they don't get a VIP seat at the Ivy.
I'm very pleased to see Mad Men grab a lot of noms, though. Truly a great show... -
I've seen it and to me it's just weird people talking about weird things.
-
I would think filming an episode of Deadliest Catch would be more deadly than filming an episode of Top Chef.
-
Is it fair to say BSG and sci fi in general get overlooked by awards shows? They did get a nomination for an episode, after all.
-
I mean... Mad Men doesn't totally SUCK or anything... I'll admit, it isn't junk like Heroes or something but that being said... imho the story really isn't THAT noteworthy. Sure, John Hamm is a fine actor, it's well shot, the costumes look great, etc. But, I don't know, to me show show just isn't terribly engaging.
****MAJOR SHIELD SPOILERS***
Like the above poster said... when Vic confessed to Olivia. WOW. Shane's FINAL moments... Ronnie getting dragged away and taking a full hit for the Strike Steam's corruption. OH MY FREAKING GOD. That was GREAT writing.
Mad Men? Alright, so Don had an affair... he has a dysfunctional fanily. Okaaay... I get it, people in the 60s had social issues too. I've seen this exact same plot done to death in countless other films and TV shows. And this show gets 4 writing nominations? I could give you 10 back to back episodes of The Shield that were better. -
except 11 while as a group, and 19 honorary awards since then.
-
The movie came out after Mad Men. Makes it seem not as good. Also did anyone take away from Rev Road that in order to have a long happy marriage that you should just not listen to your wife? Was that the point?
-
http://tinyurl.com/bsgsux
Moore and Co. dropped the ball and fucked all of us over. -
Just as Buffy ended up on a lot of best of year lists, but nary a nomination. Genre gets shut out, period. Lucky Nimoy got an Emmy for Trek years ago...
-
Peggy Bundy should have gotten something for her work on that show. Also everyone who's still upset about Heathbar's passing, its good to know the Aussie's where thinking about you because Charlie Hunnam will make a fine replacement.
-
They have like 8,000 categories for the Emmys now, wtf?
-

I will now make my selections for every category I care about
by soylentmean
Ready?
-
or it's spinoff, The Cubicle.
-
It's not as angry as it sounds.
-
Good to see Sheldon Cooper nominated. He is great on The Big Bang Theory, which should have been nominated as a series. But as usual, everyone has shows they'd like to see in that don't make it.
-
He fuckin' owns the character of Monk.
No, really, he's like the executive producer on the show. -
If you don't vote for him he will kill you, cut your body into pieces, and then dump you in the ocean.
-
and I've never even watched another episode of 30 Rock since I fell asleep during its pilot. Which is not as bad as a pilot falling asleep during its routine flight to Vegas
-
watched it once. It was damn forgettable. Just like much of NBC.
-
Really, that's how she spells her name, with no "z"? It's really hard to get a "z" into words. She should have kept that letter.
-
How is it one of the best comedy nominees, which it doesn't deserve, but not in best animated? How does that make sense voters?
-
They blow shit up, what's not to like?
-
The guy's name is a weather phenomenon (only spelled wrong)! Dude, you can stop at the first "n".
-
Every chance I have to vote for Shatner, I vote for Shatner.
-
Um, have you seen her? She's fuckin' hot!
-
Jul 16, 2009 5:24:06 PM CDT
SoylentMean - yes, because that's how they base votes
by lockesbrokenleg
Damn.
-
I don't watch those shows. So, I guess none of the Grey's Anatomy ladies. Because I've never seen a show set in a hospital.
-
Jul 16, 2009 5:26:14 PM CDT
lockesbrokenleg, are you walking on that compound fracture?
by soylentmean
I wasn't talking to you. Now I am. Feel free to respond. For a price.
-
That guy needs his fuckin' due! Give it to him. As long as he wasn't playing Winston Churchill. That guy talked like he was from England or something.
-
Anytime I can vote for Drew Barrymore, I vote for Drew Barrymore.
-
That show is great!
-
I only wish that the Oscars would address their format and give out awards for best catering and best gaffer.
-
BSG and True Blood were, over the length of their seasons, both great.
-
Starting last year, animated comedies were now allowed to submit themselves into either animated comedy, or regular comedy, but not both. They just chose to nominate themselves in Comedy, whereas the other animated shows had more common sense and less ego.
-
Mad Men is a treasure. It captures the mood and timbre of the early 1960s so well. The acting is superb. But I have to admit that taking four of the five writing slots is a bit overdone.
-
But shit like 16 and Pregnant would probably win
-
Simpsons has been on the bataan death march since 2002, and when was American Dad EVER funny????!! AND ROBOT CHICKEN IS FUNNY FOR ABOUT 2 mins every episode.
-
or it's his favorite website. I guess it does matter which one.
-
Venture Bros. is one of the best shows to hit airwaves (now in digital) this entire fuckin' decade! I too am falsely outraged that this wonderful show didn't get a meaningless nomination for a meaninglyess award!
Fuck! I am so not angry! -
Because I put it there.
-
Every other year of that show deserved an emmy, but not this one, no, not with that damn finale.
-
...they have obviously never seen either series, or possibly both. Poor BSG, Supernatural, True Blood, Fringe, Kings and Rescue Me...le sigh...
-
but they do help shows keep going, and they do bring in new viewers to those that win them. and Venture bros is criminally low profile, whereas simpsons has become a bloated carcass that no one wants to put the effort into disposing of.
-
but not Brett. Brett will be crying the tears of a rapper.
-
"...have obviously never seen one series, or possibly both." My bad.
-
So easy to refute this elephant douche.
-
YOU MEANIE!!!
-
I think at this point credit card information is usually required.
-
its a sham he wasn't even nominated, and the guy hosts almost 11 individual reality shows - and does an awesome job at each one of them.
-
I nominate Sajak, because he sounds like a tv detective.
-
that The Wire was on for five fucking years and never once got a nomination for best drama. Fucking retards, the lot of them.
-
HEIDI AND SPENCER!!!
-
That thing in that one episode of that show I can't remember was awesome!
-
No Shield. No BSG (except for directing for Daybreak Pt. 2, just like Exodus Pt. 2...I suppose that will have to be enough). No Bear McCreary. No nominations for Michael Chiklis, Walton Goggins, or Denis Leary. No writing nomination for Ronald D. Moore or Shawn Ryan, yet they have room for FOUR FUCKING WRITING NOMINATIONS on Mad Men. No directing nomination for Clark Johnson. And surprisingly, nothing for True Blood too. Certainly _someone_ deserves _something_ on True Blood. Fucking outrageous. The Emmy voters are fucking plebeians and philistines.
-
...something too. Katey Sagal or Ron Perlman for Supporting Actor/Actress maybe? About the only thing I can congratulate them for is recognizing Damages. I can halfheartedly endorse Breaking Bad, but I'm not nearly as enamoured with the series as everyone else here seems to be. It's good, but it's not Shield/BSG/Damages good.
-
and I thought, oh no, this shit is gonna get loud. And then I reread it.
-
Oh, that's good enough to be a new meme. Lesbian and Palestinians are so gauche.
-
nice.. I wonder if that was part of the writer's strike settlement
-
just recently got into this show. How was this not nominated before?I think week in week out it's the funniest show on t.v.can't really comment on the reality choices since I don't watch them.Family Guy gets a nom yet no Venture Bros?wtf?
-
More than Big fucking Love did, or ever will. BSG - too good for Emmys. Disrespected, they were, today.
-
Was good, dunno why some people here are so critical about it.
-
...their favorite pet theory wasn't used. Or because RDM neglected to spell out every single detail behind the mythology of the show.
-
BSG - snubbed. Shield - snubbed. Lost - largely snubbed. The Wire - ignored. No credibility in these awards at all when they ignore shows like these.
-
it will have won 30 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ROFLMAO. Good one, McGooCain.
Looking over these nominees I can't really get pissed or anything because I don't watch too much TV. What I do notice is that in a way the Emmys need a best ensemble award more than the Oscars do. You can't possibly nominate all the people who should be nominated. I only watch 3 shows and I'd run out of room if I could nominate people. Luckily all three shows are nommed this year, LOST, DEXTER, & WEEDS. Hope lots of the actors attend. Actually I think that's been the problem with LOST getting acting noms. The actors are usually filming in Hawaii and therefore can't make it to the ceremony so they don't get nommed the next year. I'm gonna go ahead and suggest to ABC that they make an effort to get as many losties as possible to the show as presenters or guests this year. Even if they have to take a weekend off from shooting. It could pay off in nominations for it's final season. And it could have one of those ROTK type 'we'll award them when it's over' momentum thingies. -
of TV Arts and Sciences and their disgraceful biase against genre programming than the quality of this show.
-
I was hoping BSG would get nominated for writing. But really. It deserved that win with the first season. Second aswell. 4th season was the weakest in terms of writing really. Mad Men will clearly win. Dexter doesn't really deserve anything either for it's recent season. The only show that deserves it's noms right now is Mad Men.
-
The video-nominations of the best writing for variety/musical/comedy. I don't know when they started doing it like that, but there's always something in there that'll give me a chuckle.
-
That is all.

It sounds and reads AWESOME. http://tinyurl.com/l5p83b

First The Wire barely got any love, now BSG. The least they could have done is give a shout out to Olmos or McDonnell even if the series slipped a bit in the final seasons.
Nice to see Weeds get some recognition though.
-
Sure it's very traditional stuff, but it consistently makes me laugh. I've known people like that. Nice to see 2 nominations, but really the writers on that show deserve to be recognized.
-
Why not?
-
TheWaqman is going to pretend to be a writer on Lost AND NEVER FUCKING ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.
-
better than 30 Rock
-
every year.
-
to see the emmys become the massively gigantic awards show, and not the oscars, when enough people stop going to movies and everyone just watches tv at home. and i'm guessing that that is gonna happen a lot sooner than i can even imagine.
-
has been dead to me ever since 'The Wire' ended. It was pretty much "game over, man!" for awhile now. Entourage has lost what it had...
-
Sorry BSG apologists
-
I'm really glad for Aaron Paul, his performance on Breaking Bad was awesome. He and Bryan gave one of the best shows yet. Hope they both win. And the show itself should win, too.
-
:( One-liner of the year, BTW, from Kristen Bell. Slayed, and shoulda got a guest comedy actress nomination..
-
Victor Samuel Mackey is too good for this shit!
-
Fuck you, Emmys. We got our two seasons, we don't need your middle-of-the-road stamp of approval.
-
Christina Hendricks and women in tight dresses and even tighter blouses! So damn tight that you could bounce a quarter off em' and by em', I mean their racks and asses! You know that special time in our history where sexual harassament wasn't a word!Oh how I wish there was a porn that would give me that 50's-60's wooden feel, but no!
-
I don't know why, but I really want Aaron Paul to win.
I'm kinda surprised at Dexter's nominations. It's still one of my favorite shows, but last season was just ok. -
Aaron Paul's performance in the last half of season two of "Breaking Bad' was absolutely amazing. The man deserves the Emmy without a doubt.
Bryan Cranston as well. And "Breaking Bad" for best drama. Amazing, amazing, amazing television. -
You are 100% right!
Mad Men and 30 Rock both deserve their accolades, but FNL needs some kudos too... it's one of the best character dramas on TV. -
was on Big Love too, and it took me several episodes to realize it was him. Yeah Aaron Paul for best supporting actor then. Don't fucking give it to Shatner again! And William Hurt was so low-key in Damages, he was barely there. Timothy Olyphant made more of an impression, but Emmy just loves it when old pro movie stars grace the tv with their presence. BTW I forgot about Jon Voight on 24, thought he would have been up for a prize.
-
Tracy Morgan's supporting actor nod can't possibly be serious since, you know, he's not really acting on that show...
-
...and completely meaningless, its really that simple.
-
Really enjoyed the show, and honestly feel that it deserved love for season 1 and 2, but 4 was far too inconsistent, and pales compared to The Shield.
-
Atrocity.
-
But the one I still look forward to the most is Lost.
-
For obvious reasons.
-
Though Gabriel Byrne is a very very close second.
Lead Actress in a Drama has to be Glenn Close.
Supporting actor in a drama series, William Hurt. I know Smits is down for Guest actor, but for me he should be for supporting actor.
With Hope Davis for Supporting actress.
-
cable/sattelite progamming has come a long way since then network tv is dying a slow ass death
-
I'm choking someone.
-
You're arguing about this like it matters!
The Emmys are a bad joke. Worthless in every way. They're about as real, sophisticated and exciting as Big Brother. Let's talk about something interesting instead. -
The Emmy's really are a joke.
-
Emmys all around. If you havent seen this show: log off, go rent/buy season 1, and thank me later. Cranston and Aaron Paul nailed it this season.
-
Best on any medium. Period.
-
in the drama supporting actor category. :)
-
That's right I said it. The Emmys prove that.
Although I am a conservative, I still believe in the old adage of funny is funny and good writing is good writing.
Don't care what you say, 30 Rock is the funniest show on TV. It's called a sit com for a reaon. Situation Comedy.
On the flip side, I've never watched Mad Men, but have heard it is an extremely good show which leads into...What happened to the Cable Ace Awards?
When it comes to drama, network TV can't compete with Cable. It's too difficult because on HBO they can show more and say more. I mean when is the last time anyone was really excited about a drama on Network TV...The West Wing?
Face it, they need to split their award shows because they really can't compete against each other. -
The Simpsons and South Park have never gotten a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, but Family Guy is now the first animated show since The Flintstones to get one?
Yeah, it's so much better than those two! *rolls eyes*
Come on! That's just fucking bullshit. -
The show is too steeped in cartoon history, and history in general (esp this past season) for your average Emmy voter to appreciate. The creation of Doctor Girlfriend alone grants it genius status. Just like Always Sunny, be glad its on the air and continues in its be its warped self.
-
There's only maybe one or two real laughs per episode. But, out of that list of comedies it's not hard to see why it'll win, although Entourage is much funnier. this season of Family Guy was pathetic other than the hilarious Three Kings episode. Out of the Closet with a Vengeance Stewie is the new jumped the shark.
-
I thought the Ace awards were created back in the days when cable fare received zero coverage by the ATAS awards. I did not realize they were still being awarded.
I confess that I cannot recall when I ever watched the Ace Awards. (Not judging them just offering full disclosure.) -
..didn't get him the emmy like he thought they would, over and over.Who'd a thunk it?He did a GREAT job in BSG, EXCEPT for those scenes....
-
to get emmy nods. They go crazy for that crap: "ooh, she made herself ugly, how brave, how much sacrifice for her art!" Stuffin all her hair under a bad, bulgy bald cap, then occasionally wearing an ugly wig over that, well, not much brave sacrifice for art there....
-
THE SHIELD. Glad to see the love here, and nothing I can add about those amazing performances that OceanWang, Ash0k, and others have said already! Good thoughts folks...
In other news, Cheery Jones gets a nom for '24', yet not Kiefer or Carlos?! Wow, she wasn't that good was she?
Random thought: I think there should be a special Emmy given to Alan Dale, called the "he's in everything awesome" award. He's not just some acting whore, his characters always give a show a huge boost in quality. He's been a credit to everything from '24', "O.C.", "NCIS", "Lost" and "Entourage"! It's like every time I change the channel that Kiwi is there! -
That's why he wasn't nominated.
-
Maybe it's just her weird face. Anyway the time to give love to BSG is looooong past. Certainly the last season was anything but award-worthy.
-
Maybe it's just her weird face. Anyway the time to give love to BSG is looooong past. Certainly the last season was anything but award-worthy.
-
Just goes to show that great content doesn't just happen on TV or in the movie theaters.
-
And the BSG finale was great imho. ***SPOILERS***
Granted it was a bit weird that RDM had the humans destroy ALL their technology. That being said, jeez, they FULLY explained the Opera House, the In-Head Six, Six's In-Head Baltar, the ships of light, what happened to Starbuck, what the purpose of the Final Five were, why Cavil wanted Hera, and the humans found the REAL Earth.
My God, some of you will never be happy.
-
Went from a strong, noble character to a weeping woman.
-
...but in the final season there seemed to be a "last chance for emmy" mindset with some of their scenes. The repetitive Adama drunken droolin weepin pukin scenes really did not add anything, and were actually pretty damn distracting and out of place.Sure, they could have been a part of the general disintegration and disrepair storyline--but they were over done and really not necessary. And the flashback to a young Adama doing the same damn thing negated the old-age-wearing-out-disintegration-Adama=Galactica thing, anyway.
-
Aaron should definitely win. It's not just his 1st Emmy nom, it's his 1st nom ever. If he loses, I'll freak out.
-
So is GALACTICA.
Those are two shows that will influence the next great batch of TV writers and will be studied decades from now by people who appreciate good storytelling.
Emmy voters, you are not cool. -
OOOH! You need a STRIP CLUB when you have a SPACE SHIP! DAMNN!

OK, here's why I'm peeved at Lost in a more concrete way
by iamnicksaicnsn
Of course they alluded to Jacob in the rest of the show. That's fine. I guess I just feel like they could have revealed him better. The conflict between Jacob and the guy in Locke's body just seemed completely out of the blue, without any real context. I'm sure they'll go over it in the next season, it just didn't have any emotional resonance for me. The other thing is that Locke is dead. He's fucking dead. He never gets his redemption, he never gets to be the bad-ass we always wanted him to be. He no longer is part of the show. It was so awesome to watch him become the leader he was always meant to be, to see him take the reins.
-
Jul 17, 2009 11:00:01 PM CDT
I still think there is something more to Locke's coffin
by lockesbrokenleg
I still think there's something else hidden in there?
-
locke never became a leader...he was dead...dead....dead
-
Shiiiet.
-
I thought Damages was a 2 hander, Patti and Ellen seem to get equal screentime to me.
And BSG rocks. Fuck all haterz yo.
-
...am I the only person who thinks that It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the funniest f***ing show on TV right now??!!
-
I agree. 30 ROCK is great (albeit somehow vastly overrated), but the Emmys have never so much as looked at It's Always Sunny, which has more audible laughs per minute than any other show. That doesn't make it the best, but certainly one of the funniest. But 30 Rock? Seriously? It's not even in my Top 5 comedies on TV (this top 5 would not be restricted to live action)
-

"they FULLY explained the Opera House, the In-Head Six, Six's In-Head Baltar, the ships of light, what happened to Starbuck, what the purpose of the Final Five were, why Cavil wanted Hera, and the humans found the REAL Earth."Unfortunately fully doesn't mean convincingly nor effectively. They did a bad job. The Opera House was pathetic, for instance. I won't go into why, because some people just want to buh-LEEVE!
-
didn't find other remnants of the Colonials, like the Vipers, Rapters, etc.
-
It was all about the characters, right? To hell with the plot, and continuity. We need cliffhangers and twists, even if they don't make any sense whatsoever. It's only about the characters. We don't really care, after all, if they find earth, or even survive. Lets just make it up as we go, cause after all, its only about the characters and real fans will understand that.
-
but, it really died after they found that destroyed Earth. It could have been so cool and mysterious. But, Hera got in the way.
-
Switch the names of Ron Moore and whaddya have???
MORON!!! -
They did the same thing with 2 1/2 Men. Charlie Sheen is up for Best Actor, while Jon Cryer gets nominated for Supporting Actor.
-
...are my favorite shows in recent memory. Yet it's amazing to me that the one that's the least accessible is the one that gets the most love. Oh well, at least something is right with these nominations.
-
Always Sunny has been notoriously overlooked ever since it came on the scene. It's by far the funniest show on TV.
-
Also, agree about Locke. Except I believe that they are going to bring back to life the real Locke. That is the reason for them dragging around the casket. There's just no way that this is how they end one of the show's greatest characters. Also, Jacob visited Locke in the past so I don't believe we've seen the end of our old friend.
-
I know about 8 people personally, including myself, who watched that show religiously. None found it confusing, none found the characters annoying, none found plotholes that bugged them... everyone enjoyed it. The only complaint was the loose end of what Kara was... but after some discussion amongst friends where we bounced ideas off each other, we came to the conclusion that it was actually more fun that way. That's life... mysterious things happen, and sometimes discovering your own reactions and guesses to that mystery is far more interesting than having it spelled out for you.
-
Can somebody please tell me what is so great about this show? Maybe I just caught a bad episode? I mean, I paid $1.99 to download an ep from iTunes and saw half an hour of people just talking about their sex lives before I gave up... nothing even remotely interesting.
-
Someone already said it but that douche from the Mentalist? That show is a Life rip off. 22 emmy's for 30 rock??? Does anyone watch that stupid fucking show...have you tried??? And Grey Gardens? I rather have my teeth filed w/out drugs then see Drew Barrymore pretend she is happy and sober..such a joke and Dexter won't win shit and that is why this whole thing is a fucking joke. Who cares...Michael Emmerson will be robbed, again for Alec Baldwin, stupid fuck
