Statham in London -vs- A Cop Killing Scumbag!! BLITZ...
Merrick here...
The mighty Jason Statham looks to be joining directed Elliott Lester's adaptation of THIS
novel by Ken Bruen. The book will be adapted by Nathan Parker (MOON).
BLITZ is...
...a London-set thriller about a serial killer targeting police officers.
[EDIT]
Statham will play a tough, uncompromising cop assigned the task of tracking down the killer. Paddy Considine will play his partner.
...according to THIS Variety reference. The Amazon link above tells you a bit more about the storyline ("Blitz", for example, is the nickname of the serial killer).
Lester's last feature film was LOVE IS THR DRUG from back in 2006 (trailer HERE), from a screenplay by Wesley Strick (Scorsese's CAPE FEAR and Platinum Dunes' NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake).
Sounds like there are other books involving characters in this story; might this be the beginning of a franchise for Jason?

Jason Statham, you had me at 'ahlo.
-
Bitch slapping serial killers! Ooooh I wonder if he'll take his top off?
-
Instead of an AUDI - He's in a CROWN VIC - WHO CARES?
-
and kicking people in oil and such
-
Listen, mattforce, if you're good at something; keep doing it.
-
It's all the same
-
I should hope so
-
... which is all we have in 2009-10 - Pretty boy fags. What's happened to the MEN in Hollywood?
-
Will this be it? Time will tell...
-
Yeah, by the TIME this movie comes out, you'll be able to TELL it sucks.
-
Paddy Considine is the cop killer
-
It could be cool if Jason and Paddy were partners in the 70s. This could be a cool buddy cop franchise if done right.
-
... certainly not in a movie like this.
-
Cop killers are people, too. In fact, some might say they're doing a public service.
-
Statham = Tickets bought by me.
-
...at Dark Horizons. I have a really, really good feeling about this film. I believe it will be one to watch out for.
-
There's another novel of his currently being adapted. William Monahan's writing and directing LONDON BOULEVARD based on Bruen's novel. The flick stars Colin Farrell, Ray Winstone and David Thewlis. As for The Stath, I hope this one pans out for him. He's consistently better than the material he's given, but it's time to do more work like the excellent THE BANK JOB than the so-so Jet Li movies that clutter his CV.
-
You won't find one of those wallowing POS's on the road in Britain. Our cops for the most part can fit in regular sized cars. Beyond that, Statham might do shit films from time to time, but he intersperses them with brilliant ones as well - Bank Job, Snatch, Lock Stock etc...and even some of his popcorn fodder is good fun. If this is his 'Bank Job' mode alongside Paddy Considine (amazing in everything, especially Dead Man's Shoes) this will be fucking brilliant.
-
Hafsol, I wouldn't bet against it.
Statham is a busy boy these days! Reminds me of Billy Crystal's Michael Caine song from the Oscars 'how many movies can one guy make...' -

cool, my first ever double post. No idea how I did it. BUT I LIKE IT!
-
McQueen's cooler than Statham. But Statham would beat the shit out of him and then come back for a side order of Yul Brynner without breaking sweat.
-
No mention of that? This could be a good buddy action flick.
-
Now I see the Paddy mention.
I am hopeful this can be a badass film. At least Statham always seems to be enjoying making films. -
http://www.crimespreecinema.com/2009/07/statham-doing-bruens-blitz.html Good work. Hang on....breaking news....Michael Jackson's dead!
-
so far, anyway. Watchmen would be the runner-up, and Moon is #3.
Also, Stephen King likes Statham...haters can eat dong. -
Subtitles, yeah Bronson looked like the kinda guy who would have some homemade blade secreted under his belt to shank you with. Even Statham would be scared of getting a shanking.

but is he a tough, uncompromising no nonsense kind of cop?

With two and a half hours of Statham and Daniel Craig beating each other into pulp.
-
and you'll maintain your average output. Keep up the good work, Jason.
-
Since we're dreaming up roles for the Stath... http://tinyurl.com/l7kheq Hey, at least it'd be different. Right Mennen?
-
Now that is a pairing I would love to see!

The Bank Job was very good with Statham showing good range..
by lanemyersclassic
He is an action star though - that's what he does best. He will be able to cross-over into more dramatic roles -easily and when he wants. He's having fun and making money! What's the problem?
-
Every gay man has his preference for what type of man raises his flag.
-
Noir thrillers that have won all kinds of international awards. But Statham is not the man to play Inspector Brant. Brant is basically a toned down British version of Vic Mackey with hygiene issues. Statham just doesn't fit the role unless he seriously let's himself go. I'll cross my fingers because I love the books, but I don't see it working.
-
And I will see it. Statham is Van Damme done right.
-
see: George Clooney
-
Saw it recently. Was one of the better Statham movies [not considering Ritchie movies as Statham movies].

OK, take your pick with Clooney - you see my point...
by lanemyersclassic
What you are saying about abs is also true - see: Van Damme.
Statham is better than that. He will probably evolve into a character actor - character actors have to be convincing in their craft as well. Aside from the Ritchie movies, did you see Bank Job? What did you think? -
I ask you does it get any better? Finally, a flick I can truly be excited for! With all the pretentious muck hollywood is throwing at us during the dreadfull summer season. Leave it to the Brits to make it right...
-
It was ok, nothing amazing. Just save one ass beating scene at the end and everyone loves it. Best scene was in the deleted scenes section on the dvd.
-
"Cop killers are people, too. In fact, some might say they're doing a public service."
You must be quite the rebel. Either that or you're doing a post-Full House Bob Saget Routine. Either way you sound like a real Asshole. Eat my shit. -

The Bank Job was better than OK - it was an above average
by lanemyersclassic
caper flick with political intrigue and suspenseful twists and turns. I loved the "brick" scene toward the end, but a typical Statham action flick (as falsely advertised on the US DVD) it was not. Being based on real events made it all the more enjoyable.

Is it necessary to Amazon link everything?

Just give us a short description of the story!
-
I love Statham, but My God Transporter 2 was HORRIBLE, and Transporter 3 was the worst movie Ive seen in theaters in a year. I too just hope this will be his next GOOD movie
-
It's the sequel to "Guy with small amount of hair glowering at the camera"
-
Two generic, low-grossing terrible action franchises smushed into one! Not to be confused with Vin Diesel's "The Fast and the Riddick"

STATHAM IN "GENERIC ACTION FILM THAT GROSSES $29 MILLION"
by maxcalifornia.
And yet it will still spawn two sequels.
-
if you want to see Statham "cross over" grab Chaos on dvd (or whatever). Classy movie with a grossly underused Wesley Snipes. Only thing that would have made it better would be a big ass fight scene between Stath and Wes... Missed opportunity.
-
pretending to be badass like half the male actor's population nerds love.
-
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I bet Statham would make a kick-ass Harry Palmer if they decided to "remake" or continue that series. Michael Caine was great in that part. I would like to see how the character could be continued. Just a thought.

JASON STATHAM ONCE PUT A POODLE IN A BLENDER
by christian_bale_trashed_my_lights
And then he drank it down.He fucking DRANK it down. You do NOT want to mess with that man. Believe me. You really don't.
-
A GOOD ROLE OR PUT HIM OUT OF HIS FUCKING MISERY.
-
then he eats a poodle...
-
Saying he does some shitty films? Like Arnold's Raw Deal, RedHeat, Commando. Or Stallone's Cobra, blad blah you get the point. You think you nerds would be excited that he have an action hero under the age of 50. Oh right, this is AICN, where its cool to hate everything. Holy Fuck!
-
YOU ALL KNOW IT. when the inevitable Die Hard remake comes along you KNOW it is screaming for STATHAM.
Plus he is my go-gay so eat it fuckers -
Seriously though, I've always thought of Statham as a tough guy who always seems to play it a little too safe when it comes to picking scripts (that is to say he sticks too close to the one-dimensionality of exploitation action films with dressed up euro trash trying to kill a la the Transporter series). Here's hoping that he's actually taking some risks for a change, because I genuinely like him as a tough guy and want to see him demonstrate some range.
-
He is the best action star in Hollywood right now. Keep those movies of his coming.
-
Too bad he doesn't have the same great skill at picking scripts that Schwarzenegger used to have because he can out act Ar-Nold any day of the week.
-
Its just fun to make fun of the shitty movies he has been type cast in :D
