No Hatch On The Island!! Judge Says SURVIVOR's First-Season Champ Can't Compete!!

Published at:  Jul 13, 2009 3:19:36 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Now that he’s out of jail following a long stint in stir for tax evasion, CBS reportedly wanted first-season “Survivor” champion Richard Hatch to take a third crack at the million-dollar prize.

On Friday Hatch, currently serving a “home confinement” stretch of his sentence, petitioned a federal court in Rhode Island for permission to travel to the show's new site in Samoa, but his petitiion was denied.

Prosecutors want Hatch to pay back his $400,000 in back taxes before he’s allowed to travel – perhaps unaware that competing again on “Survivor” may be Hatch’s best shot – however long – at getting his hands on that kind of money.

Court records demonstrate that the show’s casting director invited Hatch to compete on the show in late June.

The 19th season of “Survivor” starts shooting around Aug. 1.

In addition to winning the first season of the series, Hatch competed in the 2004 all-star edition, but was one of the first four contestants voted off that season.

The show’s pursuit of Hatch confirms speculation that a second all-star edition of “Survivor” is in the works.

    Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

    by xxxhardcore

...And it is going to be in Somoa, just like upcoming season 19. And yes, it is an All-Stars edition, being the 20th season and 10 year anniversary.

    Also... First?

I hate that Survivor says "Season 19"

    by indycollector

They count each edition per season as one therefore giving it false "seasons."

Hatch would definitely have been a villian...

    by exie

If the 20th season is an All Star Hero vs. Villians Hatch would be a bad guy. He was hardly the hero when he won the million. In fact, he was the subject of a lot of scorn.

While it would be the 2nd "All-Star" Survivor

    by big jim

I found that "Fans vs Favorites" was much better than the All-Star Season. Might have something to do with Parvati, Amanda, and Ami in bikinis. That and Eric the Ice Cream Scooper giving away his immunity. That season started a bit slow but had some of the best Tribal Councils in the later episodes.Pretty much all I remember from All-Stars is Lex gutting his team of strong players so he wouldn't have to compete against them after the merge, then finding himself alone after the merge with no allies and whining about "integrity", "loyalty", and "friendship".

You win a million on a NATIONALLY TELEVISED AND INSANELY POPULAR TV SHOW, but don't pay the taxes on it? Seriously? Like maybe the IRS wouldn't notice? Moron. and if Rupert comes back, I'd watch.

What's wrong with having two seasons per year?

    by indiana-joe

They're both 15 or more episodes usually. That's more than we get out of most cable shows in every season. What's the alternative? Calling them seasons 8A and 8B? Lumping two competitions into one season so everybody can be confused when those seasons are discussed? As far as all-stars is concerned, they should have four players from each of the seasons. 64 survivors or even more if possible. Then CBS should slap it on every night opposite Leno and end that bullshit before it gets a chance to find an audience. Make the prize something along the lines of 10 million bucks and people who haven't watched Survivor in awhile will come back.

    Because it's not two seasons

    by indycollector

It's still the same show running in the same timeframe as other shows who have one season. By saying 19 seasons it sounds like Survivor has been on almost as long as The Simpsons and it's not even close.

Casting Lost actors = brilliant idea

    by jonsnow

Lost and survivor are so similar that casting the actors of the show sometime after the series finale would be a no brainer. The actor that plays Richard Alpert looks so much like Jeff he could play Probst if he decided to retire from the show.

    Will miss Hatch

    by juntmonkey

It sucks a lot that Hatch won't be back. He was so so awesome on his relatively brief All-Stars appearance, just a totally hilarious, larger than life figure. Too bad they can't/won't wait a couple of months for him to be off of house arrest. Hoping for both Coach and Tyson, and Colleen would definitely be a sick surprise. For All-Stars she declined, saying she'd "moved on", but I watched her extended S1 exit interview and she said "if I was on this show in 10 years, things would have been different..." Prophetic, we can hope.
