Comedy Central Orders A Sitcom From EASTBOUND & DOWN’s Will Ferrell & Adam McKay, Starring That NAPOLEON DYNAMITE Guy!!
I am – Hercules!!
Screenwriters Chris Henchy (“Land of the Lost”) and Adam McKay & Will Ferrell (“Anchorman,” “You’re Welcome, America”) are scripting a new untitled Comedy Central sitcom starring Ferrell’s “Blades of Glory” co-star Jon Heder (“Napoleon Dynamite”).
The premise, as described by Variety, sounds a lot like that of HBO’s Ferrell-McKay sitcom, “Eastbound & Down”:
… an out-of-work IT specialist who leaves the city and returns to his small hometown to live with his parents and younger brother.
Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes to start.

sorry, I've never been first before. Sounds like I'll be sticking to Eastbound and Down.
-
I HATE that guy!
-
We gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long why to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound just watch ol'Bandit run
Keep your foot hard on the peddle...son, never mind them brakes
let it all hang out cause we've got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta, and there's beer in Texarcana
and we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

Outside of Dream On, The Larry Sanders Show, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO has not been that successful with half hour comedies. In fact, I'd even be willing to say that as good as premium cable is with one-hour dramas, it tends to suck when it comes to comedies. The broadcast networks are still the best in that format.
-
The story says Comedy Central.
-
COMEDY CENTRAL.
But at least you got your huge amount of Amazon links correct. -
Sounds like the manatees came up with this plotline, maybe after watching Eastbound & Down? Hey it worked before, let's do the exact same scenario, only he's a nerd!
I think Jon Heder is funny and has gotten a bad rap, so I hope it's a good show. Making fewer episodes is a good strategy, concentrate on good writing rather than pumping out 22 steaming piles of crap.
-
Is the best damn fictional althlete we've had in about a decade.
-
The guy has done nothing since Napolean Dynamite apart from ruining Blades of Glory
-
Now, it's just like every network.
-
Just like this show will be after the ten eps HBO wasted their money on
-
Comedy Central
-
Should we really trust the writing talent behind STEP BROTHERS and LAND OF THE LOST to produce a show for *Comedy* Central?
I'd have to say no. In fact, I'd have to say fuck no. -
Similar to when Jonah Hex time travelled.
-
It was all about characters rather than story anyway. And Uncle Rico will be looking for work after Lost is over.
-
I think only Heder's pride would prevent such a thing.

I doubt this show will be on longer than the ten episodes..

What Comedy Central usually does is debut a new show after South Park or something and then, a short time later, move it to a time when no one watches the show and then they cancel it.
-
I can completely understand why it didn't, and why people didn't like it, but that show was fucking MAGIC.

The fuck do these guys have to do Eastbound and Down
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
It Jody Hill and Danny McBride's show.
-
It was Best, Hill, and McBride's sitcom. Ferrel and McKay just put their names on it and helped get it made. For the love of God, Herc, please have some goddamned respect for the guys who actually CREATED the freaking show.
-
How old are those kids on that shoe 20?
-
Actually during the initial bruh-haha 5 years ago when MTV films bought Napoleon Dynamite for distribution there was some stirrings about doing a spin off TV show. I think Heder and Hess even mention it on the DVD. But alas it fell through. I don't see why the fuck they don't do a sequel with Napoleon in college or something. As long as they maintain the spirit of the original I think it would do well.
-
Time for TV
-
Just crappy ones.
-
And so did Jeremy Piven when he got Entourage. Sometimes, once in a while, TV gigs just up movie actor profiles insanely. Other times, you get that female president drama or the Chevy Chase show. hell, even Steve Carell could have bailed for features 2 years ago and he's still plugging away at The Office.
-
DVD just came out last week, only 6 episodes long but some of the funniest writing I've ever seen on television. That scene with the talent scout from Tampa during the last episode had me absolutely rolling.
-
Carrell and Sutherland are smart guys, they're not going to be leaving TV any time soon.
-
and rigthly so. TV pays good money to it's stars and the best shows are better written and more original than most of the crap that fills the movie theatres.
-
Agreed. The whole "movie stars are slumming it when the show up on the boob tube" is completely outdated, because for the past 5 years or so the writing on television has been consistently better than anything Hollywood churns out. Someone like Jon Hamm has no reason to "break out" into films when he's on one of the best written, best acted programs around.
-
Where we see Kenny's rise and, mostly likely, immediate fall. Could just be a six-episode arc like the first season. Might not be as good with Kenny just being a straight dick to everyone, but it would make me laugh. This show almost certainly will not.
-
Bah.
-
I love it already
-
Thy name is Ferrel and McKay. I imagine these guys laughing at each other's jokes as everybody else laughs because they're supposed to...
-
Or whatever napolean dynamite's real name is....that guy is not funny at all.I'd MUCH RATHER watch Mel Gibson talk to box of CHEESY BREAD(tm) than anything with this shithead.
-
..his parents and small town are going to be way behind on technology -- ya know, because he's an IT guy!His brother will probably be against tech nerds too, again, because he's an IT guy!The show writes itself!
-
Whoever dissing it above is wrong. Shit, the fight scene at the end was epic.
-
That right there earns them a lifetime pass. Couldn't care less about what else they release though.
-
Or a spinoff film. It doesn't need to be a sequel or have Jon Heder. It just needs to give us a deeper peering into the primal force of nature known as Uncle Rico. It should open with a dream sequence where Rico throws a football over a mountain range.
-
What a good title.
-
and I still don't know if I liked Observe and Report.
There's something, just something that weirds me the fuck out about Hill's outings. They make me feel like cutting my dick off. -
but Ferrell and McKay are definitely a bit inconsistent.
