Comedy Central Orders A Sitcom From EASTBOUND & DOWN’s Will Ferrell & Adam McKay, Starring That NAPOLEON DYNAMITE Guy!!

Published at:  Jul 09, 2009 7:44:24 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Screenwriters Chris Henchy (“Land of the Lost”) and Adam McKay & Will Ferrell (“Anchorman,” “You’re Welcome, America”) are scripting a new untitled Comedy Central sitcom starring Ferrell’s “Blades of Glory” co-star Jon Heder (“Napoleon Dynamite”).

The premise, as described by Variety, sounds a lot like that of HBO’s Ferrell-McKay sitcom, “Eastbound & Down”:

… an out-of-work IT specialist who leaves the city and returns to his small hometown to live with his parents and younger brother.

Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes to start.

    Not Excited

    by raromo

Outside of Dream On, The Larry Sanders Show, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO has not been that successful with half hour comedies. In fact, I'd even be willing to say that as good as premium cable is with one-hour dramas, it tends to suck when it comes to comedies. The broadcast networks are still the best in that format.

Sounds like the manatees came up with this plotline, maybe after watching Eastbound & Down? Hey it worked before, let's do the exact same scenario, only he's a nerd!

I think Jon Heder is funny and has gotten a bad rap, so I hope it's a good show. Making fewer episodes is a good strategy, concentrate on good writing rather than pumping out 22 steaming piles of crap.

What Comedy Central usually does is debut a new show after South Park or something and then, a short time later, move it to a time when no one watches the show and then they cancel it.

    Napoleon Dynamite TV Show...

    by thecomedian

Actually during the initial bruh-haha 5 years ago when MTV films bought Napoleon Dynamite for distribution there was some stirrings about doing a spin off TV show. I think Heder and Hess even mention it on the DVD. But alas it fell through. I don't see why the fuck they don't do a sequel with Napoleon in college or something. As long as they maintain the spirit of the original I think it would do well.

Besides, Sutherland did amazing when he got 24

    by tall_boy66

And so did Jeremy Piven when he got Entourage. Sometimes, once in a while, TV gigs just up movie actor profiles insanely. Other times, you get that female president drama or the Chevy Chase show. hell, even Steve Carell could have bailed for features 2 years ago and he's still plugging away at The Office.

Agreed. The whole "movie stars are slumming it when the show up on the boob tube" is completely outdated, because for the past 5 years or so the writing on television has been consistently better than anything Hollywood churns out. Someone like Jon Hamm has no reason to "break out" into films when he's on one of the best written, best acted programs around.

Where we see Kenny's rise and, mostly likely, immediate fall. Could just be a six-episode arc like the first season. Might not be as good with Kenny just being a straight dick to everyone, but it would make me laugh. This show almost certainly will not.

    by henry fool

Or a spinoff film. It doesn't need to be a sequel or have Jon Heder. It just needs to give us a deeper peering into the primal force of nature known as Uncle Rico. It should open with a dream sequence where Rico throws a football over a mountain range.
