ABC To Squeeze One More Hour Out Of LOST!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
The creators of “Lost” have informed ABC that they can’t possibly contain the final season of their sci-fi drama in its allotted 17 hours, and have been awarded an 18th.
They know this even before a single frame of the sixth season has been shot. It must be positively jam-packed with exciting developments!
Maggie Grace, who played rape-cave-fearing Shannon (mostly in the first season) has been hinting she might be back in Hawaii soon; I imagine that a show famous for its flashbacks could have a lot of departed cast members shipping out over the Pacific in the next several months. I say it might have been cool to see Jacob visiting Boone, Eko, Cindy, Claire, et al, in the final episode of last season.

we need more Adebisi in Lost

Like last season did. Being a fan of LOST since the first episode aired, this past season was just BORING AS ALL HELL.
And I still refuse to believe those claims that "they knew this is where everyone would end up" since the beginning. I'm not trying to trash the show because I'll still tune in each week, but there is no way the writers were giggling over a campfire with marshmellows saying "LOCKE WONT REALLY BE LOCKE IN THE FINAL SEASON!" :) -
He's not dead, you bet your ass.
-
Huh?
-
One request: let Brian K. Vaughan pen more episodes. Can't get enough BKV
-
Just not as much as I miss Daniel and Charlotte. Who the hell's idea was that? Seriously. The time travel shit could have been implemented better than that; there could have at least been a Time Machinesque sequence of him trying to save her but her still dying anyway. (And I still like the Guy Pearce Time Machine). And he ended up getting shot like a bitch. But damn it, this show is just AMAZING. By the way, my post is FULL of spoilers. Sorry.
-
Yeah....
-
I'd take a thousand more hours of Lost if they could keep the plot this damn interesting. You make it sound like they're milking "I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here." Just typing that makes my intestines bleed.
-
I LOST interest long time ago...
-
The ENTIRE SHOW is a fucking recap!
-
to explain everything to fucking hugo.
-
i LOST interest at the subject header...
-
Sorry - just wanted to see what it is like to be a fucking moron...and it feels fucking ridiculous! LOST!!!!I do enjoy this Lost show...although, I have a major issue with the killing of EKO - what point did that serve? Why introduce an amazing character only to have him die like that?!?! I don't understand the logic. And I guess, I never will....cos producers tend not to explain things like that - its just too hard to explain stupidity.
-
More LOST for the rest of us.
-
Excellent season last time out.
-
The actor who played Eco wanted to leave the show as he had deaths in his family and wanted to go back to England...wasn't anything to do with the writers or the people who make the show...but they defo fucked up killing Daniel he was the most interesting character since Eko
-
Some characters won't make the plane crash this time! The ones that do will have the power to change what happens this time, and decide their own fate. That's why Shannon, Boone, Charlie, etc. will be back, though some for only a short time.
-
after revelation and a awesome half hour of action towards the end. It's about the only way to tie things up coherently. Bring it the fuck on.
-
leave those uninteresting idiots dead and buried.
-
They probably only got this extra hour because the ADVERTISING blocks were being pre-sold and they realised the demand was there to pay stupidly high prices for the adblocks.
-
...suddenly breaks and just in time, Simon Pegg as Scotty is there to fix it. Go, JJ, go.

Season 5 exposed this show for what it is
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
A load of bullshit.
-
Lost turned into a sad directionless shadow of it's promising first season. Now the scripts are just makeshift cover existing plot hole scraps.
-
except for a few episodes it went down the BSG treading water for the last season route.
-
Season 5 exposed the show for what it is? So the other seasons were somehow hiding it? What you mean is you didn't like last season.
-
What?
BOOYAH for one more hour! -
So I doubt he is rising from the grave anytime soon.
-
Fucking idiots.

While I am not going to say that the Lost creators have had every single detail of 6 years of TV written out, I have been rewatching seasons 1-5 and it is clear that many of the broad strokes of this show were known in advance and the details have been in place since mid-late season 2. And if you thought Season 6 was boring, I can't imagine what you are watching on TV that is more exciting with as much character drama and depth. BSG was the only thing that came close and it was clear that those guys ultimately (to my great disappointment) did not know what they were doing. That is simply not the case with Lost, the abundance of details and things already revealed simply don't support that argument.
-
Lost and BSG proved to me I can no longer watch TV content broadcast each week. I watched the last season of BSG each week and found a lot of it sucked. So I watched it again and Lost S5 at a natural pace of 2-3 episodes at a time like a mini-movie when I felt like it and both seasons were great. Proves to me that broadcast TV is now a waste of time for me. I'll wait until I can get disc sets and then watch them and have a good time seeing them when I want to and how I want to. If there's a slow/filler episode you just flow onto the next episode. Same if there's an esciting plot point. OK, this is a pretty useless post but if you don't like the show maybe it's just the pacing for TV doesn't sit right with you, just like it no longer does for me.
-
It's a reference to Season 1. Shannon is packing up her things to finally move to the caves when she finds out Claire is attacked there. She responds saying there is "no way she's moving to the rape caves." It was pretty funny actually.
-
I can't believe somone who has been following this show from the beginning would hate Season 5 so much. It was pretty ass-kicking.
-
It's been a long time since I've watched the first seasons. Looking forward to rewatching them all in time for the final one.
-
but it always amazes me how the lost writers can keep gaining and losing hours of storytelling yet still tell their partly (at least) pre-planned story properly. like when they went on about 'treading water' in season 3 because they 'didnt know how many episodes they would have to do'
american tv-making in general seems weird, the network orders how many episodes they want, not the creators of the show saying 'we've written a story that will work for 17 episodes and thats it' strange. -
Tough room, and LMFAO. :)
-
Season 6 premier = season 1 premier. I hope.
-
..the more and more I read comments like "Eco was the best character! Why did they kill him?!?!", the more I realize that people here are not well versed in much of anything.
-
I was under the impression she just went missing. I know she was spotted with Christian but does that really mean she's dead?
-
watchinbg it back at the moment, just got up to Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham. Gotta agree with MatInTheHat, watch it in 2-3 episode chunks and you forget any shortcomings of particular eps and enjoy the seasons as one long arc. Great stuff.
Is Walt coming back for season 6? Thats simply GOT TO happen. -
There hasn't been any confirmation of her death but many suspect that she actually died when the barracks house she was in was RPG'd by Keamy and mercs, not to mention her strange behavior in the shack, which may or may not have been her. If she is dead they will find a way to bring her back I'm sure. She is returning next season.
-
on Jonathan ross... http://bit.ly/foxonross
-
basically we will see the actors/actresses who are not douches and are grown up enough to realize they were killed off of the show for the sake of story. Libby and Eko probably won't be back for that reason... betting that Maggie Grace, Dominic/Charlie, Boone, and maybe Ana Lucia will be back for cameos.
-
She's billed as a regular next season. This makes me think she isn't dead.
-

Eko was killed because the actor who portrayed him was a douche.
by jjwalrus
That's why the episode that he died in made no sense. They originally wanted to pit him against Locke for awhile to sort of compete for the souls of everyone on the island. Too bad the dude who was playing Eko ruined it!
-
wouldn't really care if she stayed missing.
-
Claire isn't boring. Kill yourself, faggot.

You lose three members of your family and then say- "you know I'm grieving but I'll put it aside so some fan won't call me a douche".
With your compassion I'd have to say you were the docuhe

I'm Cool with An Extra Episode. Didn't the First Season Have, Li
by kevinwillis.net
I'd like to see an additional 10 episodes for the season, and they bring back everybody in some capacity, including a CGI Walt. Possibly as zombies. And a 5 episode Libby-centric Arc that ends with Hugo scoring big time.
-
For a long haul. Then he asked to leave the show, they said they knew it was going to happen, so they did it there. And it's reported he behaved in a manner designed to get him written out sooner rather than later. So who knows.
I just know, the subject for my previous post should have included the words "Didn't the First Season Have Like 27 Episodes or 48 or Something Like That"? -
Is just pissed at season 5 because he threw a bitchfit when people were coming up with theories about the Jughead hydrogen bomb, screaming about how it wasn't important. Then, oops, it became a major piece of the final episodes of the season.
-
Unless V or that flash forward show are any good, there won't be much reason to watch ABC ever again besides sports.
-
And everyone's on board with it, even Kate, who seems to stand to lose the most, like oh, I don't know, her FREEDOM by going along with it! Fucking DISGRACEFUL! The Weekly World News was more coherent than an episode of Lost!!!
-
Hope this helps...
Season 1 - 22 episodes, 25 hours
Season 2 - 23 episodes, 24 hours
Season 3 - 22 episodes, 23 hours
Season 4 - 12 episodes, 14 hours
Season 5 - 16 episodes, 17 hours
Season 6 - 16 episodes, 18 hours
TOTAL: 111 episodes, 121 hours -
Like she couldn't escape? She's done it before on numerous occasions.
-
Sweet-as long as a cheerleader doesn't have to come and save the world and a hundred "heroes" with super powers start showing up.
-
WTF. Why did they show us stuff we already knew? Sure, it was kinda cool, but really didn't change the story at all.
-
Jack needs to kill the Man in Black in 2007 and save Goth Claire!!!
"This doesn't look like LAX" -Jack -
I'd agree that it SEEMS like they know everything that's going down on LOST, were it not for the Jacob vs Esau thing.
Firstly, other than some vague black vs white (the Othello game with Locke and Walt in S1), good vs evil, yin vs yang thread being woven throughout the series, the whole "who REALLY runs the Island" thing has ALWAYS hinted at only one person they all report to: Jacob. No tales of ancient grudge matches, no "there is an Anti-Jacob", no "the darkness is coming" teasing - nothing. There was ZERO FORESHADOWING of the existence of an equal to Jacob that was playing a game (which in itself was disappointing - kind of on the same level as Liz Hurley playing chess with the black angelic dude at the end of BEDAZZLED) which would result in one of them causing the other's death indirectly because of some stupid rule (how very fucking HIGHLANDER) and the victor going on to rule the Island as some kind of Prize (is Greg Widen on the writing team? Just wonderin'). None of this has been foretold. None of it foreshadowed. None of it hinted at in any way.
That's why the whole Jacob vs Esau bit felt less good than anything else in that finale - because, for the first time ever (apart from the Eko death, which anyone following the behind-the-scenes drama on the show would have known the reasons for) a plot point just felt tacked on and pushed in where it wasn't in any way foreshadowed - in a show where EVERYTHING IS FORESHADOWED!
Yeah, I wasn't impressed with Jacob vs Esau AT ALL.
Oh, and they should keep Brian K Vaughan the hell away from any endings that need to be written. His denouement for what caused the plague in Y: THE LAST MAN was all kinds of lame, suffered from "can't make an answer that wil equal the anticipation" syndrome, and ended up a trite and muddled reason that was massively unsatisfying. And having the characters be all clever-clever and so very meta in discussing how unsatisfying this reason was a couple of issues later wasn't cute and post-modern and clever, it was pretentious, navel-gazery and totally pointless, as it only served to have even the main character of the comic remarking how shit the reason actually was. Not clever - just dumb.
Other than that, Y: THE LAST MAN was pretty damn near perfect. Looking forward to more mid-season BKVaughnery... -
a nice lil NUGGET of coolness.tastes great!
-
In fairness, she IS pretty boring. What's the last interesting thing they did with her on that show again? Smiling enigmatically whilst NOT asking about how her son is while hiding out in the Spook Shack with Jacob is NOT interesting, it's just teasing out plot-related mysteries that don't seem to go anywhere...
-
agree with you pal.Couldn't have said it better. I FEEL LIKE VAUGHN IS WATERING DOWN lost and it's once great potential. His "various answers" cvrap with Y:the last man was agrrivating to me.Excuse me for wanted to know what caused A and B to lead to C.WHat the fuck?
-
we bgin season 6...and we start all over again(so shannon, boone, charlier, etc.) are all back....but gulp...they're babies!
-
So you knew the 4 toed statue was a giant statue of the Egyptian god Tawaret? You knew Rousseau's crew didn't succomb to a sickness but were actually killed and/or possessed by the smoke monster? you knew Sayid shot Ben when he was a kid forcing the Others to save him and change him forever? You knew Widmore and Ms. Hawking were on the island from the 50's to the 70's? You knew Hawking shot her own son Daniel and that his father was Widmore? You knew Charlotte and Miles were on the island as kids? You knew there were Dharma stations off the island? You knew why each of the 06 came back to the island? You knew the smoke monster was under the temple? You knew Ben killed Locke and that Locke has been replaced by some kind of imposter? You knew the person in the shack wasn't Jacob at all but the same imposter? You knew there was a giant hydrogen bomb under the island and that it may have been why the Swann button was created? You knew Jacob had visited the 815ers off island sometimes in their youth and touched them for some purpose related to a conflict with another entity? You knew Jacob has disciples off the island that are now on the island and preparign for an upcoming war?
You knew all that? You are smart. -
don't fuck with hobocode

ever! More Lost = happiness. For me!!
-
Is it widely accepted now that the radiation from Jughead sitting in the tunnels below Dharmaville caused the fertility problems? Or is that still an unsolved mystery?
-
Best. Talkback. Name. EVER.
DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIINNNAAAAAAAAGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I'm finished. -
The fact that we can't really tell what is going to happen in the end of this series after over 100 episodes, says to me that what's coming is something really bizarre, out of left field. So I'm surprised 18 will even be enough time to wrap it up.
-
I'm typically not one to criticize AICN, cuz I love you guys, but this news about 18 episodes is at least a week old. They're tacking the extra hour onto the beginning of the season so that both the season opener and the season/series finale will be two hours.
In other "returning cast" news. the only person confirmed to come back in season 6 that's been gone for any length of time is Emilie de Ravin (Claire). AAA (Eko) has voiced a strong desire to come back and do his character some justice after leaving the show for personal reasons, but is not confirmed for any number of episodes. Elizabeth Mitchel (Juliet) has been confirmed to be in an undisclosed number of episodes, but it is currently unknown if that'll be flashbacks or if she's not really dead. Dom Monaghan, Maggie Grace, and Ian Somerhalder (Charlie, Shannon and Boone) are all rumored but there is no confirmation from anyone. Finally, Cynthia Watros is not coming back and the producers have stated that they will not be tying up Libby's storyline because despite them asking several times, Cynthia just has no interest in coming back to the show. -
Can't. Wait. For. LOST.
-
Season 6 will begin like the end of the LOST: Via Domus video game. The bomb WAS successful...but it simply RESET what was destined to happen anyway. The season will begin on the beach...with Jack opening his eye. However, Jack & Co will retain their memories from the past five seasons. Of course, this is just a guess.
-
+1 HoboCode
-
So if its all destined to happen, and Jack retains those memories... what happens the SECOND time the bomb detonates?
-
I have to admit that even though stupid shit happened last season, I really enjoyed the performances of Josh Holloway, and that chick who plays Juliet. Jack was wasted last season, and Jacob SUCKED. what a fucking let down that was.
-
Yeah. And Mark Pellegrino is the best thing since Avatar.
-
The time travel aspect should have been wild and intense roller coaster ride - it wasn't. Trying not to confuse the casual viewer, I suppose. The 70's episodes should have been super tense, with everybody on edge - it wasn't. Dharma should have been exciting with the mysterious and groundbreaking science going on - it was a bunch of hippes running a construction site. They've abandoned Claire, Aaron, Walt, Michael, Rose, Bernard, and Vincent. They've tamed Sawyer, neuterd Ben and killed Locke and Rousseau. This last season needs to rock like it used to.
-
Lots of people complained about the "Filler" episodes, but I really enjoyed the quiet moments, the humorous scenes, the introspection the characters were allowed to have in those types of episodes that didn't further the plot each week or ended with a twist or big reveal. I miss that kind of storytelling from Seasons 1-3. I certainly wouldn't mind having a full, 24 episode season for the final one.
-
I love first season references. The Golden Year.
-
Character "X" gets huffy, decides he or she needs to travel to some distant point of the Island for no reason that is immediately apparent to anyone. Character "Y" says: "You're not going without me! God Damn It!" Commence gratuitous verbal foreplay. Cut to drudge march through a set of "the same 3 trees" until we reach The Stream (capitalized because it's always the SAME FUCKING STREAM). At The Stream, the second or third character in the drudge march line reveals they have a gun, pulls it, points it at Character "X" and demands to know "Blah, blah, blah, big revelation?" Character "X" avoids the question, miraculously avoids getting shot, but nevertheless unhands the gun-toting character's weapon. The plot NEVER advances on this show unless someone is getting lectured to at gunpoint. All characters then retreat to their respective Dharma bunkers. Rinse, fucking repeat. I've never seen a show make time-travel more boring. Q: How do we know that they're trapped in the 70's? A: Granny glasses and the occasional scoop necked peasant shirt on a chick. Cheapest fucking production values on any high-profile network "hit" that I've ever seen. And no, there was no grand plan for the show. It was to be a scripted "Survivor" that they slapped a mystery of the week onto until it became the hideous joke of show that it is today.
-
That's funny. *cheap production values* indeed, pssh.
-
You sound like a real comedian.
-
You know it. woot. woot. Or maybe this time Locke won't only not be Locke the bald guy we love, but he'll be the undead version of the actual John Locke philosopher dude. In a box. With Keds on.
-
"That's why the whole Jacob vs Esau bit felt less good than anything else in that finale - because, for the first time ever (apart from the Eko death, which anyone following the behind-the-scenes drama on the show would have known the reasons for) a plot point just felt tacked on and pushed in where it wasn't in any way foreshadowed - in a show where EVERYTHING IS FORESHADOWED!"
Just watched the pilot and this was foreshadowed to an extent when Locke was showing Walt Backgammon and explaining the two sides Light(Jacob) and Dark (Esau). So they even laid hints about this from the beginning. -
Make fun of it, bash it, argue it's details, in my opinion Lost is the best tv show in history. It's like an amazing 120 hour long movie that keeps you guessing and keeps you captivated. All haters can try to write a 50,000 page, 120 hour long story and see how that works
-
There has NEVER been a serial television show that has captivated me like this one...for more than five years! Best. Show. Ever!
-
They're on a DESERTED FUCKING ISLAND, what did you need, everyone wearing bell-bottoms while the Bee Gees played on the soundtrack while everyone said things like "Groovy!" and "Far-out!"? If you set a movie like Cast Away in the 70s, it wouldn't really change the experiences of Tom Hanks. Luxuriating in period detail is only neccesary if you're in a CITY or something.
-
http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/41067
-
Seriously... when it comes to sprawling serialized mystery driven shows... there's Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and LOST. And LOST is the very best one. Ever.
-
Well, on free network television. Followed by CHUCK.
-
Because Bob didn't live in a foot and no one on LOST left a fiiiiiish in the percolator.
-
however, they play to pretty much two different audiences.
-
the people who watch LOST will NEVER be smarter/more clever than the people who make LOST. That's why they are paid to be in show business. I long to be a part of the final season, if only for my roommate to stop fearing spoilers for the show itself...
-
we still don't know what the statue is. We don't know if the smoke monster made them sick. It didn't matter Sayid shot Ben, he's still evil. It was assumed Widemore and Hawking were connected to the island. We always assumed Dharma existed off island. We don't know what Jacob is still. We don't know what Locke Two and Dead Locke are.
-
is at the Swann, or why they enter numbers. We know Jack's Dad also encountered most of the people that were on the flight, as a matter of fact, Locke's dad did too, so why not someone else. A war has been hinted at ever since season one with Locke and the dark and light eyes
-
to the island. We don't know why the plane landed in the current time and why some folks disspeared. 5 years and we STILL don't know what the Smoke Monster is. All Season 5 did was show us Dharma time, and that's about it. Oh, and a bomb went off MAYBE.
-
you can't change the past. That was the rule. The only person who can is Desmond, because he's "special". For them to repeat that all year and then somehow Daniel changes his mind (off screen no less), it would be really LAME if they did in fact change the past. I'm hoping Miles' comment about the bomb actually causing the incident is a nifty bit of foreshadowing. I really loved s5, but like most of Lost, it was all questions, and it depends on how they answer them next year.
Why did Sun stay in 2007? Why did the wheel get stuck when Ben pushed it? Who is this upcoming 'war' between? Why is Richard the only one who doesn't age? Why haven't they killed off Kate yet? Whats up with Walt? Who was shooting at Saywer et al on the outriggers? Why do all the flashback characters overlap? Why does Lost insist on killing almost all of their female characters EXCEPT for Kate? Why is "We're not going to Guame, are we?" the best line (and delivery) ever on Lost? What is the Temple? I could go on for over 18 hours...
-
by having Clancy Brown on as a guest star. ;-)
-
some mini web episodes - anything really
-
The final scene will be Kathy Bates devouring the Losties one by one and then licking her monstrous lips.
-
Bob lived above a convenience store. How is that better than under a four toed foot?
-
I love the show... definitely one of my favorites of all time, though I admit I'm not a voracious television viewer. Season 1 was great. Season 2 was good. Season 3 seemed to lose it's footing until last several episodes when it rebounded in a big way. Season 4 was great and Season 5 started off great. But I'm left pretty concerned that they won't finish what they've started in a satisfying way by how season 5 ended. First, I was pretty excited to hear that the season would end with the fabled "incident" that led to them oddly pushing numbers every 108 minutes to end the world. But, as seems to be a pattern with the series... they left all that on the table. They seem to do that with characters fairly often. They throw in that creepy tease with Libby in the mental hospital, then kill her off before we can get an explanation. Won't harp on Eko because it wasn't the showrunner's fault but Faraday was totally wasted. He disappears for weeks only to show up with a totally different theory on time travel and a nutty plan to change the course of time, and a total absence of logic as he wanders into the camp of a group of people known as "hostiles" aiming a gun at one of their leaders, which naturally leads to him getting killed. You don't create a great character like that and have him disappear then reappear as a total doofus and kill him off. Well you shouldn't.And Faraday's nutty plan regarding "jughead" just lead to fail after fail. The characters buy into it with all the consideration of choosing which movie to see on a Friday night. "Detonate a hydrogen bomb? Well, okay. Sure." When the writers had to provide motivation all they could offer was the absurd (Jack: "I lost Kate! So I blow up H-bombs!" Juliet: "Sawyer will eventually leave me. So I blow up H-bombs!" Who knows why Sawyer, Kate, Jin, Hurley, and Richard were so accommodating. Obviously whatever happened with the blast and flash to white at the end is setting up season 6, and let's hope they have something really good for it. It wouldn't change how bad the writing was at the end of season 5 but it might make it forgivable.
-
"we still don't know what the statue is. "
Yes we do. Read the synopsis for the finale on ABC.com.
"We don't know if the smoke monster made them sick."
Smokey drags them underground and when they come back they are acting not like themselves, which Rousseau interpreted as a sickness. What do you think happened?
"It didn't matter Sayid shot Ben, he's still evil."
Oh really? Because Ben was a pretty damn nice kid before Alpert took him inside the temple to save his life, which Alpert said would change him irrevocably.
"It was assumed Widemore and Hawking were connected to the island."
Yes, but we didn't know they were ON the island, and I certainly didn't suspect Widmore was an Other based on his conflict with Ben.
"We always assumed Dharma existed off island."
We knew based on a NON-CANON ARG that Dharma may have been based in Ann Arbor, but the show had yet to tell us, and we certainly didn't know htaches existed off the island.
"We don't know what Jacob is still."
I didn't say we did but we know whatever was in the shack wasn't him, and I'm sure Jacob's ultimate nature is something that will be addressed in the final season.
"We don't know what Locke Two and Dead Locke are."
Well I'm pretty sure dead Locke is dead Locke. And Locke Dos is obviously whatever entity was talking to Jacob at the beginning, which is more than likely Smokey or related to Smokey.
"We still don't know what the magnetic property is at the Swann, or why they enter numbers."
Also never said we did. I was just adressing your claim that last season didn't tell us anything we didn't already know. but again I suspect the nature of the numbers and possibly the magnetic anomaly, and whether it's related to Jughead, is something that will be addressed in the final season.
"We know Jack's Dad also encountered most of the people that were on the flight, as a matter of fact, Locke's dad did too, so why not someone else."
Christian ran into the others off the island by happenstance, not becasue of some kind of divinity, which obviously Jacob does. He sought them out intentionally.
"A war has been hinted at ever since season one with Locke and the dark and light eyes."
Sure, but we didn't know there was a third group involved, and off the island.
"We still don't know why the Oceanic Six came back to the island."
We don't? Jack came back to save the others and becasue he thought it was his destiny. Kate came back to find Claire. Sun came back to find Jin. Sayid was forced to by Jacob's followers. And Hurley was asked to return by Jacob after he convinced hi mhe wasn't cursed. The guitar case I'm sure will be explained next season. Aaron is a child so he didn't.
"We don't know why the plane landed in the current time and why some folks disspeared."
Does it matter? They flew through a random time anomaly and they weren't able to recreate the first crash per Hawking's specs so they ended up in places they weren't supposed to be necessarily.
"5 years and we STILL don't know what the Smoke Monster is."
Why would they reveal something that big before the final season. We learn something new about it everytime it appears. We know it's probably related to Esau, that it seemingly judges people, that it scans their minds, that it is related to the Egyptian mythology of the show. Have some patience.
"All Season 5 did was show us Dharma time, and that's about it."
It showed us multiple times on and off the island just like very season has. Yes they were in Dharma time but they also flashed to the distant past (statue, flaming arrows), the future (outrigger gunfight, Ajira 316), and to the 1950's (Jughead).
"Oh, and a bomb went off MAYBE."
The bomb went off. What we don't know is if it had the intended effect of resetting the timeline (which I suspect it did but with the 06's memories intact thanks to Jacob), or whether the bomb and the pocket of energy canceled each other out and/or created whatever the Swan Station was trying to prevent with the numbers being entered. Either way we'll find out next season. -
BSG had as much CGI in some single episodes as Lost has had in 5 whole seasons (yes, I'm probably exagerating, but most of you are from the USA), but a lot of Losts CGI is total crap, whereas a lot of BSGs CGI wouldn't look out of place in a movie.

You do realize the Esau has been around for the entire series. He has been responsible for testing each human. He took Locke's weakness, his gullibility and ease for manipulation, and used that to orchestrate a chain of events that made Alpert think Locke was special.
Esau has been taking the forms of the dead as far back as Christian Sheperd in Walkabout. In "White Rabbit," he-as-Christian led Jack off a cliff.
In "Dave," he-as-Dave tried to get Hurley to jump off a cliff.
In "The Cost of Living," he-as-Yemi, told Eko "Why do you speak to me as if I were your brother?" shortly before his connected death with the smoke monster.
Then Esau showed up in the Cabin, which Ben had wrongly believed was the cabin of Jacob's.
Esau may or may not have been Walt in seasons 2 and 3. "Walt" led Shannon to her death... and "Walt" kept Locke alive so he could murder Naomi, something Jacob probably wouldn't approve of.
Next comes Christian Sheperd in "The Beginning of the End," "Cabin Fever," and "There's No Place Like Home." I still don't understand why people thought he was good with the ominous music playing and whatnot. He manipulated Aaron off the island and away from his mother. Claire's dream in season 1 had a Locke with a white eye and a black eye screaming about how she gave Aaron up and no everyone has to pay the price.
Anyway, without a doubt, in most appearances Esau has been Christian. He lied and said he spoke on Jacob's behalf. He told Locke to move the island so that Ben would move it and all of the time travel craziness would begin. As "Locke" in 2007, he had Richard tell Locke he had to die. Locke then went back in time and effectively made himself a leader in 2007. Then Locke went to move the island and Christian confirmed that Locke had to die (Jacob would have shown some sympathy). Then as soon as Locke's corpse hit the island, Esau took the form of "Locke" but was unable to destroy the body, as he had done with Christian and Yemi.
Esau has been the villain of the show the entire time... and lets not forget the force that wanted Locke to open the hatch and what Walt knew about it being evil. Also, lets take Walt's dreams into account... like creepy bloody Boone in "Further Instructions." I've watched this dream again in reruns and this was without a doubt a message from Esau.
Esau has been what Locke referred to as "The Island" because he has in reality, only seen Jacob once. -
Alex in "Dead is Dead" was also Esau. What remains to be seen is if Esau is the Smoke Monster or if he just uses it to scan/judge/kill people. I used to think the monster was the one taking the form of people but "The Incident" has made it clear that the Man in Black takes the form of the dead and assumes the dead body's personality. But I believe Hurley is seeing the actual dead, but that hasn't been clarified yet... That's just based on Jacob calling it a gift.

HoboCode wins.

The bomb went off, but it won't cause a reset. What it DID do was cause "the incident" - which most likely sent everyone still on the island into different time periods. You can't change the past or the future, because everything has already happened (time doesn't flow, it's like a landscape and WE travel through IT). So far, the show has their time travel (mostly) scientifically sound, so there's no reason to believe that they'll go all Star Trek on us all of a sudden in Season 5. I'm sure the bomb causes some serious damage to the island (probably the reason the statue is broken in the future), but the PEOPLE will end up back in the future, hurtled there by a combination of the nuke and the mysterious magnetic field. Juliette doesn't necessarily need to die, but I'm sure the writers will kill her anyway because it's an excellent motivation for turning Sawyer back into the emotionally-distant asshole he started out as.
Anyway, my point is that there's lots of really interesting directions the story can go if the writers maintain the integrity of the science and their own precedents. The alternative is just... stupid. -
Good stuff.
-
battle wages on.Its almost liek hobocode is EASU(or whatever the fuck) and lockbrokenleg is JACOB.Sooky.

I just had the $5 meal from kfc.bad move.very bad move.

where the fuck you at? come on man, lets do some talkback damage!

Is rewatching the series and cataloguing all unanswered mysteries. This show has so much ground to cover in Season 6.
-
So I picked up a copy of the "Lost: Messages from the Island" book that just came out this week. It's paperback but it's a beautiful book. Very high quality glossy pages full of great articles, photos, and interviews from the offical Lost magazine. It seems that it's centered pretty much on the first two seasons however. I'm wondering if future volumes will come out.
-
It's not an effects-heavy show to begin with, so the few CG shots they have used tend to llok fine (except for MAYBE the submarine in the season 5 finale). Obviously a science fiction show like Battlestar Galactica will have more need to spaceships and whizzing lasers and such, but Lost is at heart as survivalist show with *touches* of sci-fi. The production values of the show are EXCELLENT (what other series on TV gives us a fully orchestral score each and every episode?).
-
online. We barely know young Ben at all. How do you know he is a nice kid. He is an odd kid, but was he really nice? We still don't know a lot about this show which sucks because it's usually good.
-
If I had all the questions Locks broken leg wrote, I don't think I'd admit that I pretend to watch this show. Especially on here man. Great we are getting more LOST. I hope to get a question in at the comic con panel.
-
He's a kid, dude. He might have some issues with his mother dying and his father being a detached violent drunk, but I think it's safe to say Ben was pretty normal until Alpert did whatever he did to him.
And I didn't really get any of those answers online. Those were all either directly from the show or ones I inferred from the show from strong evidence. -
Wasn't Bob possessing Leland in that show? And you complain that Jacob lives in a giant Egyptian statue's foot?

The sub CGI would have been OK if they hadn't lingered on it
by performingmonkey
A really quick shot and they would have got away with it I think. Roll on season 6.
-
since one. Dammit. First scene could kill off Sun, Sayid, Hurley, etc, and I would love it!
-
I thought it was stupid people were coming up with theories that the bomb was why crippled people could walk on the island you moron, as I've already explained to you once before. Christ, let it go man.
-
Everything it's ever built up has ended up meaning fuck all in the end. There's one season left and we still don't know what the whole fucking thing is about. The whole time travel was absolutely pointless. Not to mention the whole "what happened happened" aspect of the timeline killed any sort of drama the show had going, because everything has already happened, so who a gives a shit, especially the shitty, pointless Oceanic Six story, which, like every other storline on the show, built itself up as this big terrible thing that happened and needed to be fixed, before they writers quickly grow bored with it and try to write there way out of it into the next weird crisis that will ultimately mean nothing.
-
statue. In La Fleur we see that the statue is already destroyed in 1974, so it can't be the bomb that did it.
If Season 6 starts with the future having been changed, I may consider it to have jumped the Dharma shark. It would go against everything they've set in place already, and destroy the impact of season 5. Next year we really need to see a flashback of Faraday in the 70s when he left the island. How/If they'll do that I have no idea. -
That's very, very, very good stuff. Either you are a writer for LOST, or one of the most intelligent and attentive fans around, because that ALL made sense. I am now going on a LOST marathon to check everything you said.
That's some Next Level thinking, right there. Esau was under all our noses all along! Those crafty LOST writer bastards... -
Sorry dude, I'm working some crazy hours this week, will keep popping by with the occasional snarky comment.
Read gio988's reply to me about Esau though. He's right - Esau has been there ALL FUCKING ALONG!!!
gio988 IS Darlton. I am convinced. -
Cock. Kill yourself.
-
Uh oh, somebody criticize your favorite tv show? Better get angry about it jackass.
-
like a nuclear bomb was detinated there 30 years in the past? They would have had to build the hatch all over again from scratch. I think the bomb DID go off and the land in LAX, then they have to get them all back to the island some other way. I also think Locke goes back to normal, some of the characters that were on the plane come back, and we won't see people like Juliet or those that were on the freighter return to the show...
-

Who the fuck even knows what a nuke detonating there would do
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
It's right at some magic magnetism source, a nuclear bomb blowing up might not behave in a way we're familiar with, this is a place with magical smoke monsters.
-
Those 2 episodes that were eventually missing due to the writer's strike were given to season 5 and season 6 respectively. This is a brand-spankin' new hour.
-
So that's Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Kate, Sawyer. Remember Jacob's last words: "They're ccomming". so the nuke is kind of the insitagtor of that. The nuke kills Juliet at ground zero, but it doesn't destroy the island because it fell into that electromagnet hole and smoke monsters, magic, yadda yadda yadda. Miles stays in the past with DHARMA, and gets to live the rest of his life happily getting to know the dad he never knew.
-
consists of christian bale standing in front of a green screen with mocap doodads all over him and a blind monkey on his shoulder, staring like a fucking madman into the camera in silence for a good... 30 seconds or so... and then shattering the quiet with a deafening, "WHAT DON'T YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND?!?!" smash cut to black. (((POOM))).... LOST
-
awesome!!!!! this is the best show on tv and has been since the first episode. this show is full of questions and it gives me answers too... albeit in their own time, but thats what builds the suspense and leaves me eager for more every week.
When that drum hits and the all black screen with the lost caption over it comes on at the end of every episode i just want to scream out loud that its over! i'm always so disappointed when it goes off lol so yeah, another hour of lost huh? bring it on! in fact, bring on another five seasons, i'll be there every week, thats a promise. thank you for this great show, i'm so sad that this will be the last season :*( -
CGI always looks better when the lighting is dark and there's some murkiness to the images. BSG's CGI was almost exclusively space battles, where you've got a dark star field backdrop most of the time and spacecraft flying about usually at very fast speeds. Lost, on the other hand, is largely set in bright tropical sunlight. They'd have trouble making it look great in a 300 million dollar motion picture let alone a television show. Plus, since BSG was such a CGI intensive show they had a team of CGI artists contracted to do the whole show, and they could more detailed work at bulk rates, where as Lost only needing an occasional CGI shot here and there would have to contract each specific shot to an FX house, no bulk rate so they have to be stingier with how detailed it can be. Not really a fair comparison.
-
You're probably right about Esau/nemesis. Question is, who was fake Christian in LA? Jacob or Esau? What is the significance of him having Locke die OFF the island? Is it that he (Esau) can only imitate those who die off the island? Is it possible that, unlike Jacob, Esau cannot leave the island. Can Jacob imitate the dead too? Can he imitate the living (ie. Walt)? Do you thing Esau is Smokey or Smokey is Esau's tool?
-
The people griping about all their questions not being answered yet are really funny. If they still aren't answered AFTER the new season, THEN you can gripe.
-
I'm not sure if Christian in LA was Esau or Jacob or the real Christian. I'm thinking it was perhaps the real Christian, since Hurley told Jack that he would be visited soon, and I believe Hurley and Miles' abilities to be real. What I find interesting is that Christian, Yemi, and Locke all were dead on planes when they reached the island. I think there is a definite connection between Smokey and Esau, but I'm still not certain if they are in fact the same since we've never seen Esau transform yet.
-
Let's not sleep on Vincent. There is DEFINITELY something up with that dog and they make it obvious. Perhaps Vincent died in the crash and is possessed. Early in the series I had thought Smokey and Vincent had a connection as Smokey tended to appear where Vincent was.
-
I think the bomb is just going to bring Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, Juliet, Miles and Hurley back to the present time period. Jacob says, “They are coming.” I think this is what he meant.
Also, the escape clause that will bring Locke back is that he was murdered. He did not commit suicide like Esau wanted. Esau (appearing as Chrisitian) told Locke he would have to die to get them to come back. He did this to be able to use Locke’s form as he did Christian’s. The difference is that Christian committed suicide by drinking himself to death. Think ‘Leaving Las Vegas.’ Locke did not. He was going to do so, but was stopped by Linus. And then Linus murdered him. Locke will get to come back for this reason.
-
"...the escape clause that will bring Locke back is that he was murdered..."
It's a reasonable thought, but the suicide/homicide deal is a religious aspect that I do not believe is the direction of the show. We will see though.
