Introducing The Filthy Comedy Stylings Of RAAAAAAAANDY!!!
Beaks here...
There's nothing more exhilarating than discovering a new comedic talent. Gallagher, Gallagher Too, Earthquake... you always remember where you were when you saw the best. So I'll never forget that electric mid-January evening when a brilliant young man named Randy took the Orpheum Theater stage in downtown Los Angeles and regaled us with his Crazy Fuck Stories (aka FuckTales). Talk about a penetrating wit...
For months, I've kept this revelation to myself. But now that Randy's movie, FUNNY PEOPLE, is just weeks away from theatrical release, it's time to share him with the rest of the world. As a Randy connoisseur, I'd suggest you start with the videos, each of which showcases his dazzling command of the English language. And don't sleep on the sick mixing skills of his sidekick, DJ Youngin' (particularly in the "Impressions" bit)!
For those of you eager to see Randy do his thing live, he'll be holding court at the Bakersfield Laugh Hut on July 9th. You'll also be able to check him out in FUNNY PEOPLE starting July 31st.

Who's he?
-
Awwwwww...its not????
-
Seriously, WTF?
-
will randy take over his persona
-
Nope, it ain't the Macho Man.
http://tinyurl.com/ywfdze -
that was in the Eddie Murphy Klump movie (1st one) that tried to rip on everyone. For the record, that's not a good association to have...
-
WTF??? You think this TURD is hilarious? Geeze, guy, GET OFF YOUR FUCKEN DRUGS! You're worse than Harry creaming over TWILIGHT!!!
-
Huh... learn something new every day
-
and observe and report and parks and recreations...you fail at pretending randy is real
-
he's hilarious.
-
I feel sorry for anyone who thinks otherwise.
-
Seriously...not funny at all.
-
It's really NOT funny when AICN thinks they're being hip by "playing along" with the meta jokes the movie publicists set up. It is REALLY funny when the AICN readers don't see though it and think it's real.
-
First- none of the fake shows/movie clips/stand-up from this viral campaign have been even remotely funny so far. Yes, I know they're supposed to be bad and that's the point, but they're not even funny in an ironic sort of way. They're just lame. Secondly- they're way too over the top, and that would be fine for some films, but it certainly doesn't seem to fit the universe of an Apatow film. In other words- if any of the footage we've seen ends up in "Funny People" (as opposed to being internet only clips) I think it would probably not fit with the tone of the rest of the film. In other words, it's going to stand out like a sore thumb. Because these things are way, way too far into the satire category to even remotely exist in the real world, and that's not going to work with a film grounded in reality. I'm hoping (and assuming) that Apatow knows what he's doing.
-
Must be an American thing....maybe.
-
I can't believe you numbskulls fell for this AGAIN. That Yo Teach sketch that everybody thought was real...
Seriously, I can't even believe how idiotic some of the people here are... It's unrealistic.
Also, Giphangster, I don't even think they are supposed to be funny in an ironic sort of way... They're just supposed to be kind of morbidly entertaining and kind of a scary frame that people actually think that stuff is funny. I mean, people have actually watched and been entertained by shows that were identical to Yo Teach and comedians identical to Raaaandy. -

I dont see how being unfunny is supposed to sell movie tickets..
by gibsonusa returns
Maybe theres something i dont know...(shrugs)
-
right?
-
That's it.
-
C'mon guys - use yer noodles.
-
That was Dave Chappelle playing the part of a hack stand-up comic in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR. I fail to see how that's a bad association.

You can't stop a woman from shopping!
-
You can't stop a woman from shopping!
-
i really really love it.
-
stupid self obsessed comedian who's wildly successful and their humor is based on delivery as opposed to actual jokes
-
Raaaaaandy is way funnier than Dane Cook.
-
Not content to be the "it crowd" any longer, Apatow and company are about to get all preachy on us. Give me a fucking break.
-
...I am already mentally associating the unfunniness with the movie, which has a banner ad constantly at the bottom of the site....is that what they want?
Combine that with the attention span of the iPhone generation, what is the purpose of this?
I may still watch the movie, and I hope it does well...I just dont get it, despite using my noodles. -
Aziz can pull off what most can't. He's a unique human being.
-
Aziz can pull off what most can't. He's a unique & funny human being.
-
I yell it whenever I see that dude in public.
-
With how funny all of this viral Funny People shit has been. Great job, Aziz.
-
In any form, this guy sucks. Scrubs, the shitty (soon-to-be-cancelled) Office spin-off, random movie appearance, unfunny Funny Or Die clips, and now an Apatow cameo. And to the "doesn't get it crowd", when something isn't funny and you don't laugh, that doesn't mean you missed something. It's the ultimate 'net conversation problem solver for douches.
-
in this case you're the douchebag
-
I don't think it is.
-
but I don't think I laughed once during those those 'standup' videos - unless the whole deal is that his character in 'Funny People' is a whiny douche who isn't funny
-
He killed. He's definitely gotten the set down pat now. Although he does the craigslist bit as himself and it works better.
-
sorry, don't find him funny. don't think his humour will travel well over here (uk) either.
-
"And by the way, could you hold my shirt and bra because those are going to be off..."
Come on. That's worth a chuckle. -
that was Louis CK funny
-
with this guy...but no such luck.
-
Where's that Wampa guy with his "Ad wizards" thing when you need him?
-
who's as unfunny as fuck, but not in the funny-cringing way Jeffrey Tambor played the gloriously fucked up Hank "Hey-Now!" Kingsley.
Sounds like a winner, if you're a fucktard. -
Not sure what you were going for here, AICN. But now I'm aware of a lame viral campaign. Hooray?
-
I love watching stand up routines and having a good laugh as much as the next fella. I know what I like but Randy just doesn't do it for me. Not funny. He won't make it across the Atlantic.
-
I wish that show was still running... it was better than anything else he's done since then.
-
Yes, I know, it makes fun of bad comedy, but everything so far looks like it was originally made for "VH1 Ill-Ustrated!" Sorry, but Judd Apatow is no Mike Judge!
-
His timing isn't bad, he knows how to work his audience but there's nothing to his act. And that, my friends, is the irony of it all. I wouldn't pay to see this guy perform unless he was opening for Kevin Pollack or Dave Attell.
-
The problem is this is not much different from Aziz Ansari's real stand up.
-
the first time you hear it. Second time you chuckle. Third time, you want to stab him. That will probably sum up that movie come July 31st. I predict it.
-
I don't know can't watch videos at work. But looks like Funny People is shaping up to be the worst comedy in years.
-
This movie will be subversively brilliant. Most people will hate it, saying it's not easy comedy, but I think Apatow is trying for something more anyway. I think the clip is hilarious in context of what it's mocking.
-
Did he retire? It would be nice to have a real funny person take the reigns of comedy away from Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell (though is he even still considered funny?).
-
Go watch the trailer to Funny People, it gives away the whole movie. That is not really subversively brilliant. It's like Judd Apatow saw Lenny and thought, how can I do that but with more Dick and fart jokes and not have it have any real weight.
-
You guys are seriously losing credibility with this viral campaign bullshit. Cut it out.
-
Sure, if you say so. Trailers perfectly communicate everything about a film.
-
to break these clips down: "There are some comedians who don't act silly in the correct manner. I don't like them." Ok, I really don't care. I think I'd rather watch bad comedy then watch a shitty indie comedian rant about how people aren't doing comedy correctly. Fuck you and your bullshit "art of comedy". Either be funny yourself or shut the fuck up...
-
this guy is not. If you club a baby seal it will eat for a day; if you club seven baby seals one of those baby seals will eat for seven days after killing the other six for their sandwiches.
-
is that little foul mouth old man from 40 year old virgin and Zack and Miri. And he had to stereotype it to be funny. Otherwise, wise cracking Pakki fucks just aren't funny at all...maybe funny looking and sounding but not funny. Oh, funny smelling if you've ever taken a cab in NYC.
-
THAT'S MY DIIIIIICK! The only thing funnier than this Aziz character is the number of people who just don't understand what they're watching and react as if this were real stand-up. They make me laugh even harder.
-
I hope it bombs like Year One. Because I'm a hateful person and my favorite soda is Spite.
-
What is the big secret here .. I dont know this guy .. dont watch scrubs .. so .. dont get it ..
Anyone help? -
so are these just shots from the movie ... or just him doing randy when he does a show? either way .. raaaandy is ok .. but aziz sounds like an inet kiddie gone comedian
-
The movie focuses around a stand up on the downside of his career. These are just some side characters in the movie. The movie is not some parody of stand up, it looks like a lame lifetime movie.
-
The trailer gives away the WHOLE plot of the film. Famous stand up comedian finds out he is dying, takes up and coming comedian under his wing. Up and comer learns about whats missing in Adam Sandlers life, tries to get him to fix it. Adam Sandler finds out that he is not dying, goes after the one that got away (Jude Wife). Probably gets her in the end, and their are a couple of side kicks throughout. Plus it gives away probably all the good jokes, like the Die Hard line.
-
and painfully average in his delivery. Breaks absolutely no new ground as a comedian. Pass.
-
Most movies give away the plot in the trailer. Especially when it comes to comedy films.
I just watched the Knocked Up trailer on youtube......the whole movie is spelled out for you. You know how it will probably end, it's got a lot of the good jokes, and you know what you're going to get. Same thing goes for Juno, Tropic Thunder, and Anchorman (other trailers I just watched quick on youtube)Watch the trailer for nearly any comedy movie and you'll see that most trailers give the plot in it. They also give away some of the better jokes. It's sort of the purpose of a trailer - to tell you what the story is about and try and get you to want to see it.
I think they included the "gets better and isn't going to die" thing in the trailer so people didn't think it was gonna be a movie that has a sad ending with Sandler dying. I wish they didn't include it in the trailer but oh well.....i'll still see the film (probably on DVD....unless i'm bored on the weekend). -

bb6634 - you do realize this isn't his real standup act
by itrainmonkeys
and that this "Randy" is not real? Aziz is much better at delivery and standup than these videos. He had the same craigslist joke when I saw his standup at Bonnaroo except it as much funnier and timed better. He also had more energy and asides. These videos are not real. So you're "passing" on a fictional character.
-
Yeah I know most trailers give away the movie, but the Funny People trailer is almost like a parody of bad trailers. It fucking sits you down, holds your hand and walks you through all the plot points on the whole movie. I half way expected time markings letting me know at what minute key events took place. Also seeing that there was nothing funny in Knocked Up, and the few ha laughs it had were in the trailer, I expect this is more of the same.
-
and the fact that it's not funny is not supposed to be funny or ironic, either. I think people are getting confused, especially the ones saying that none of these viral marketing pieces look funny so the real movie won't be funny. Funny People, in the trailers and in its viral marketing, has all along been positioning itself as more a drama than a comedy.
-
His delivery was pretty damn good
-
This Randy guy is not funny. This looks like a skit for an elementary school talent show with curse words. And whats worse is that you have no taste and you endorse this shit. You sir officially suck ass. Any headline with your name on it, I will pass on. Not Funny.
-
the randy character is great. aziz does a lot of funny characters. has anyone seen his video as clell tickle?

Ah, quantize, you don't get that I do get it and you don't get i
by heckles
And you sir/maddam, are in fact, the douche. Good day. And if you don't get it, then go back to the top and read again. Get it?
-
I love Louis CK, Chappelle, Dave Attell, and a bunch of other immature laughs. I didn't even crack a smile on this loser. His delivery is like some dude from college who's friends don't have the heart to tell him he is not funny. By the way, notice the empty seats in the front row, and only mid-level laughs and no belly laughs or claps? Sucks, and on his way out before he is all the way in. Watch him fade away.
-
Though I do think he has taste for movies.
-
Jesus christ....Randy is not a real comedian. It is a character played by Aziz Ansari...and the jokes he tells while doing his Randy character are supposed to be obnoxious and retarded jokes about sex and how awesome he is...think of it like a parody of a comedian like Dane Cook...its actually hilarious especially if you know Aziz Ansari and know that he is actually like the polar opposite of how he acts as Randy.
-
Perhaps I did not make myself as clear as I could have. Raaandy reminds me of the douche comedian that Dave Chapelle played in the movie; he does not remind me of Dave himself. So kudos to Dave for doing such a tremendous job of playing a douche. Dave Chapelle association = good; Douche association = bad. Meanwhile, so it appears I was duped by this. In my defense, (a) I was not fooled by the "yo Teach" clip, and (b) such is the sad state in which we find ourselves, where there are enough retarded, but insanely popular, comedians out there that this was actually somewhat believable as a real person. Besides, at least I didn't think he was actually funny.
-
some people don't seem to understand that it's a parody. just like the "yo teach" was a parody of shitty sitcoms about teachers and tough youths and the fake movie clips from adam sandler's character's movies are just parodies of mainstream, dumbed down comedy movies.randy is not real. he's a character. He's supposed to be a shticky comedian with weird delivery and mediocre jokes. i bet when the movie comes out....we see his character doing a bit of this and then other comedians are annoyed with his success since he's not that great.
-
I saw him do some of this in Toronto months ago as well.

Apparently Brits are very concerned with what comedians do "acro
by thejokesonus
I guess satire doesn't translate to the EU, either.
-
The smart ones even know this is a fake.
But thanks for the generalisation. -
and he was amazing! absolutely insane. it's pretty much mocking bad comics, and it killed.
-
I guess I'm one of the sheep that isn't aware of every retarded viral campaign on the internet. That said, I'm really not seeing how something that is totally unenjoyable is supposed to make me want to go see something else that will probably be....based on sweet viral campaing...wait for it...
UNENJOYABLE.
Boy. I am so stupid. -
It's not that funny, but I'll be damned if I didn't have "I got Oreos on my diiiiiiick," in constant rotation inside my head today. I guess it's better than some bad 80's song...
-
It's confusing too many people. These viral pieces aren't really meant to be satires or parodies, just accurate portrayals of these types of comics/sitcoms. Remember, the official trailers play up the drama more than the comedy aspects of the film. The purpose of these viral things is to get people talking about whether they're real or not, nothing else. Makes it look to me like the movie is being marketed as anything BUT a spoof or parody of comedians. The comedy in the movie, I'm guessing, is not gonna come from lampooning anything. But in any case, when you get people saying "well, that viral spoof isn't funny, so the movie won't be funny and I won't see it", the only thing you can really say is that the marketing campaign is not being that effective.
-
It would be populated by the Jeff Foxworthys and Larry The Cable Guy types.
-
would anyone actually have wanted to watch an episode of the talk show Larry Sanders, as it was presented?
Of course not. Because that's not where the humour was. It was in the muttered asides. The off camera action. The booking room, and the writers room.
Having some viral video showing the unfunny shit, is retarded. You don't advertise Galaxy Quest by showing scenes from "that crappy but fondly remembered sci-fi show from the 80's." You don't advertise the Larry Sanders show by showing one of his full interviews with some guest.
These so called viral videos for funny people are fucking retarded and full of fail. -
...is not funny.
