At Last! The Spierig Brothers' DAYBREAKERS Trailer hits and looks fantastic!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... in seeking distractions from the onslaught of assholiness regarding recent passings - I found the new trailer for DAYBREAKERS - the new film from the Spierig Brothers. They're responsible for the wonderful no budget first film, UNDEAD - and the result is pretty spectacular looking. At some levels it looks a bit LOGAN'S RUN, NEAR DARK and something entirely new. And all of that makes me very happy. This has been a long way coming, because they were given a lot of time to slowly work on the effects, to keep the budget down, while delivering a lot. Here ya go, there's HD Quicktime at the link below, as well as the version that loads up quick. I'd go for the HD, you'll want to look at the detail on this trailer!

Been waiting so long.
-
i'm an asshole and i have a small penis
-
i was also first in the michael jackson article. i contributed nothing just to be first in that historic article. i will be forever remembered as being first in the michael jackson article. don't feel bad though. i have a tiny penis.
-
... and I'm sorry about your unit. Sad.
-
Whose cover version is that? Placebo?
-
movie actually looks interesting.
-
as the cunt who thought he was first and bragged about it like a 9 year old.
this movie looks pretty fucking interesting. I'm there. -
i was first. first to say first. remember me. for i will have the biggest penis ever after i get my implant.
-
Still one of the most ambitious independent directorial debuts ever. No budget, self directed, written, edited, produced, VFX works. It impresses the shit out of me, I love it.
-
yeah my first thought too
-
kinda getting sick of vampires
-
Classic Dafoe. Well, it's a pretty interesting cast and the footage has a couple of nice, stylistic flourishes. I'm just not sold on these modern-day vampire films; they all seem to have the same story/theme and don't offer any callback to the genre's true horror roots.
-
I misconstrued your intentions, continue.
-
That looks goddamn amazing. I want to watch the whole thing, now. Right now.
-
i was first there. that matters. i matter. i was first in michael jackson's death article. nobody will notice my small penis now!
-
WOW!!!
-
Ninja Nazi Neo-Zombies
-
As for the the film, it looks great, definately on my radar as of now.
-
Wow did I just say that about a vampire movie? Its been a lllloooonnnnggggg time. Plus, Dafoe still rocks.
-
if aicn cared about assholes, they'd ban all firsters. they don't so i'm safe!
-
I think the Ban Hammer was moth balled after Mori left...
-
I didn't have this movie anywhere on my radar till this very moment. Screw anything coming out this summer (save harry potter) this has just jumped to the top of my movie list.
Milton \ osnspodcast.com -
will suddenly love undead.
-
still needs zombies though
-
When's the release date?
-
.... that Ethan Ladyhawke got hit in the head during an earthquake and woke up thinking the world was Gattica?
I read it...
... on the eweb. -
looks fucking great!
-
The trailer won't play.

Now that's a vampire movie!
How did they manage to get such an awesome cast for this? Wow, I can't wait. -
use a proxy like jedicloak.com and then go to youtube. That's how I bypass stupid blocked portals.
-
And the creepy cover version of "Running Up That Hill" is an inspired choice.
I remember hearing about this years ago, seeing some of the preproduction art that Weta designed and thinking this could be a great film. Well, it certainly is a great Trailer--and how awesome is it that Willem DeFoe is in this--as a mirror to his work in Shadow of the Vampire?
The crazy Blade Runner backlit eyes look fantastic--the cinematography is excellent, the cast is pretty amazing (Hey it's Sam Neil and Bruce Spence! Where the hell was Ethan Hawke--haven't seen him forever?) and I am loving the slightly retro look to the film.
After a miserable summer of intolerably shitty films (except for UP) and a questionable fall movie season, this will be a great way to start next year.
The other thing I like about the release is that this is primed as a Summer film--Summer if you live in the Antipodes, that is! -
HOLY SHIT!
-
And Dafoe does indeed rock!!!
-
...then again, so did Ultraviolet and Doomsday. I'm going to be skeptical about this until some reviews start rolling in.
-
Proxys are blocked as well, uncle sam has censorship to an art.
Really, they dont want eatting up bandwidth with streaming media and per our user agreement, we can't do it if it isn't already blocked.
If you break it, you lose your network priveldges, in turn maybe your job.....I will wait until Beer-30 to watch it. -
I love that movie (have it on Blu-ray). The only thing that I called bullshit on was the punks having....canned beer...10 years after the fall of Scotland.
-
that there'd be any canned beer left in the country after a few mths, like the irish it would all be drunk in a matter of weeks, maybe stateside they'd still be suppin on beers for years to come seeing as they drink that pussy coke tin sized weak ass shit
-
Really looking forward to it now. Great cast, fun premise and it looks R rated. Done and done.
-
Yeah, I got that same stylistic vibe as well...Gattaca meets I am Legend. I'm tired of every film using a bleach bypass effect.
-
"The crazy Blade Runner backlit eyes look fantastic" Huh? We watch the same trailer?
It's practically the same eye effect from "Twilight."

Been waiting fucking ages for this!
by i_am_not_the_droid_you_are_looking_for
And it looks good. Fingers crossed.
-
You can drink it...but its just not fresh. 10 year old beer...pass
-
i got an image of Will Smith being chased by a bunch of badly animated Ethan Ladyhawke's.
good stuff! -
Am I the only person alive who remembers this incredible show (still the best modern vampire story around)? Anyway, this movie seems to bear some thematic resemblance to that show, which is only a good thing. Looking forward to it.
Very nice to see the Spierig Bros' stuff again - Undead was not perfect but very good, especially for first time film-makers on no budget. -
just had to prove i'm not a "poser". this looks ok but so do a lot of the trailers for these movies. tired of black leather wearing goth vampires :\
-
Ultraviolet was great, wasn't it? Jack Davenport was excellent as was everyone and it really worked. I guess everyone in the UK remembers the infamous 'I've just been sick, let's snog' kiss between Davenport and the young female actress, ha ha ha! Near Dark's still my favourite contemporary vampire film, but this looks interesting and exciting. I saw Undead years ago at a film festival and remember it being such good fun even though it threw in the kitchen sink towards the end and then promptly tripped over it. The standard of effects considering the tech and money the guys had was exceptional. This one's been so long coming... Willem Dafoe will no doubt steal the film with his turn. I can end the year with zombies (Left 4 Dead 2) and start the new with vampires (Daybreakers). Get in.
-
Shouldn't there be a Wolf Man trailer soon?
-
boycott that shit, I love the game, but where is the content that was promised? Oh, it was only a beta test for the next $50 game.
suck a dick Valve. -
I know someone who worked on costumes and make-up for "Undead", so I decided to check it out.. Bad decision.. Wow, that movie really sucked (not the make-up or costumes fault, at least)!! Haha!! This "Daybreakers" movie looks pretty good though!!
-
Interesting Kate Bush cover too. When's this coming out, I'm there!
-
before it was turned into that turd that is blade trinity. this looks cool tho. i detect a distinct throwback ozsploitation vibe married with a decent budget. undead was utter shit tho thanks to that comedy score.id love to watch the film without it
-
Thats one for the radar, And Ultraviolet (UK) is one of the most amazing vampire shows going. Seriously well worth checking out. A very Bourne take on Vamps long before Bourne ever came out.
-
It's a shame Twilight 2 will make more money in premiere day midnight screenings than Daybreakers in it's whole run.
-
This looks like someone waited, excited, for the "I Am Legend" remake, hated it, and made a better, smarter version by doing it from the vampires' POV. Looking forward to this.
-
so. there. can't. wait.
-
Trailer looks a little empty in some parts, first half is more scifi and cool, 2nd half looked low budget and shit.
Otherwise Claudia is fukn hot and Dafoe was a great casting coup. Im interested. -

How does the AFFC get recog. for this? Australian made movie?
by fisheater
Obviously produced by the US but maybe they produced it here? I didn't realise, although since Weta did some design that makes sense.
-
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/07/13/1977576.htm
Its good news, it could totally bomb and still be very successful just on dvd alone. -
This film is actually closer to Matheson's story than any of the previous I AM LEGEND films. The vampires were not "monsters."
-
..the AFC is a bunch of losers who think earnest films about peoples belly lint is what we need to make.
-
thats a retarded statement...even if this is a billion kinds of bad ass, Undead will still have an awful script and embarassing ending.
-
Jun 26, 2009 7:17:02 AM CDT
@quantize, read the link brother, its an australian production
by fisheater
with majority financing from overseas.
Why else do you think its taken 2 yrs to finish off the post production. -
more likely tax breaks
HELLO -
this could be terrific or awful..Claudia Karvan is pretty ordinary at the best of times.
-
this one out when it hits the cinemas
-
The link worked. Wow, I'm so FUCKING SICK AND TIRED of vampire movies. Yet, this looks incredible, perhaps even a breath of fresh air. Vampires need rebooted cinematically, and this movie looks like it's trying really hard. Plus it has Willen Dafoe and that's just all forms of bad-ass right there. I'm actually looking forward to a new vampire movie, who woulda thunk it?
-
Looks good.
-
Man! This looks great. Awesome casting, awesome story. Visuals look nice considering the mentioned low budget. Definitely has my butt in a seat!
-
Vamps, I thought this trend would be over with twilight. I guess vamps are immortal. I must be immortal too, if I can live through that crap.
-
I'd much rather see this movie than a single minute of Transfuckers2. Neat idea, good cast, and a cool twist on vampire movies. I'm there.

Ethan Hawke has a pretty good track record
by i_am_not_the_droid_you_are_looking_for
Gattaca, Before The Devil Knows Your Dead and Before Sunrise/Sunset = Free Pass. I will give anything he's in a chance and this looks good.
-
Seriously though... This looks like it has real potential. Count me as cautiously excited for this one.
-
So now I'm terribly disappointed.
-
I fucking hated UNDEAD with a passion but this looks kinda awesome. Nice trailer song.
-
I approve.
This is an interesting concept, even though it looks like they took notes from the deleted scene in Blade. There are a ton of underrated actors in this one, and the special effects look pretty nice considering the budget. Apparently Zombies aren't the only monsters that can be used for social commentary. -
Especially for 20 Million dollars. They got some amazing casting out of that budget. William Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil, Bruce Spence?! Oh and btw I thought Undead was a boring failure, but a gusty one considering how crap our local industry is. So fuck you for not being able to deal with me having an opinion that correlates with yours.
-
I meant that DOES NOT correlate with yours. Fuck these 90's style talkbacks. It's nearly the end of the decade guys!
-
Great Cast! Great Trailer... Finally something to look forward for in this "no balls" movie year!!
-

For the Sydneysiders in here, a public service announcement-
by half vader
Mad Max 1 and 2 (but not 3!) at the Chauvel in a coupla weeks. You're welcome.
-
C'mon man, stop being cheap or have Amazon pay for it. This is the oldest fucking TB right now. Every site has a 20x better TB interface!
-
I think it might be cool, if it doesnt try to be tooooo sick and cool like ultraviolet did.
-
great concept, great cast. looks like something Ill be seein'
-
I really hope this movie is good.
-
But I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing a character in a movie yell "Nooooo!" again.
-
the movie also looks FUCKING AWESOME.
-
I like the Underworld movies, mostly for their fx work and for Kate Beckinsale and Rhona Mitra, but their Blue tones do get kinda old. I understand it's hard to actually shoot in darkness but there has got to be a better way than turning everything blue to convey an absence of light.
Oh yeah, and this does look pretty cool. Also, Sam Neill says he's ready for Jurassic Park 4.
Goldblum says not only is he not dead, but he's ready for Jurassic Park 4.
Laura Dern's ready to come back.
T-Rex wants to build an addition on his home in Tahoe so is up for the film.
The velociraptors are indifferent, lethal, and
right
behind
YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! -
That is how you put together a trailer. The song totally gets all the credit though for making the trailer as awesome as it is.
-
Hurray?
-
great cast, this looks way better than i was expecting. It has been a while though. This was filmed where i live. I remember it was about 4 years ago, i thought the project had dtved or something. I was doing shift work when they were filming this. Interestingly i didn't recognise any of brisbane in it. the underground scenes are a bit like some of our train stations, but they are very generic, that could be anywhere.
-
is going to be the best aussie movie for a while. I like the fact that it androgynous, like the matrix. it could be set anywhere. i also like that they have not felt the need to stick to aussie actors, theyve mixed local talent with external - sam neil (kiwi) that chick from secret life of us. Often aussie movies try too hard to be aussie rather going with the story. these guys are going to be huge.
-
is that they went to churchie. dog fuckers.
-
I'm astonished that someone was able to squeeze another original concept out of the genre. Looks great!!!
-
That looks freakin' great!
-
Please, we really need a good vampire movie to get over seeing Will Smith quoting Shrek
-
Hell yes. Looks creative. I wasn't keen on the idea the first time I heard it, but I like what I've seen of the execution.
-
you people need to lay off the booze!
The only Ultraviolet worth mentioning is the Milla Jovovich movie!
Yes I'm only saying this to piss you all off, so dont bother with the insults. But it was a great movie. -
Del Toro would be proud.
-
who would win?
-
I'm not really convinced except that it looks visually satisfying.
-
And I loved every second of it.Now this one looks more serious and alot darker so talk shit all you want I will still see this movie.......
-
I have seen two works from them, the undead movie and this very good short film they did about a woman who sees her future on her Tv if she had accepted a date invitation from her neightbour. Both are good stuff. I expect great things from this very talented australian brothers duo.
-
The fuck it was that Will smit abortion pretending to be i am Legend the closest movie to the hallowed novel by richard Mathenson. The closest of all he movies is the one staring Vicent Price, The Last Man On Earth. And the Will Smith movie is just plain crap. What a piece of dumb bullshit! and yet, i don't blame th director for it, i blame the hack who wrote it, and Will Smith who, as the ral boss of the movie, couldn't thopugh better to fire that hack and rewrite the script. Fuck the 2008 I Am Legend, fuck Akiva Goldman and fuck Will Smith.
-
That looks fantastic!!
-
Love this idea!
-
even if he is an idiot for losing Irma!
-
This looks to be a serious step in the right direction for the Spierig brothers. Really great trailer and concept. The cast looks solid and Defoe is Defoe. But UNDEAD was a bad movie. While I watched it, I felt like it had some really strong elements. And the characters were zany to the point of annoying like some of Baz Luhrman's stuff. But a lot of the humor fell flat on the ground. And the storytelling wasn't really there. I have hopes for this but I'm cautiously optomistic.
-
This is what the SciFi/Horror tradition is really about - high concept social commentary. Plus it's got cool demonic vampire zombie things.
-
I hope it's as good as it looks. Lot of value for that $21 million.
-
