Oh, For The Love Of God...Fox Ramping Up Another HITMAN Movie!!!
Merrick here...
THIS IESB article reveals work on a HITMAN sequel has begun.
Says IESB:
IESB has confirmed that 20th Century Fox has hired writer Kyle Ward to pen the script for the sequel to Hitman!
[EDIT]
Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Chuck Gordon will return as producers.
I recall being bored out of my mind by the first HITMAN movie and the idea of a second one doesn't get me going in any way. I think watching Timothy Olyphant can be awesome under certain conditions, but nothing about his work in either LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD or HITMAN convinced me that he's a particularly promising or intriguing bigscreen presence. There's a gravity missing...
[EDIT]
Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Chuck Gordon will return as producers.

the first one was sooo boring....for the love of all that is holy, will someone please stop the madness at Fox?
-
Olyphant was miscast as Hitman. And he was the least threatening bad-guy in blockbuster history. How do we go from Hans Gruber to some twit with a computer?

He should tattoo his bonus card barcode on his head

Yeah sure...(turns head around) -
And really liked it actually. I thought the director over did it on stylized elements. I would have preferred more Bourne-like realism. But I thought the story and set pieces were entertaining. Timothy Olyphant gave a likably quirky performance that complimented the character's fish out of water nature. I loved how awkward he was with women, I think it was supposed to be poking fun at how a lot of gamers are with women.
Not a great film but it certainly didn't bore me. I don't know if I'll get to the theaters to see this one but I'll definitely check it out on Blue Ray... -
should never have been a movie. There is no way to translate the planning and methodology that the game has into the passive movie experience.
-
Considering the pure and total shit that gets sequelised in this day and age.
-
This is the same director that made the great "Frontier(s)" in his home country before being plucked from France to direct a mega-budget videogame movie. Producers had a big hand in fucking that film up, I would guess.
-
If you produce a film that could have any background? The game character is so different from the character they put on screen it was a waste of their money. Agree that Olyphant can be brilliant but he was so totally miscast. Put Stratham in there and have him say nothing the whole film, just kill people.
-
franchise needs it already..
-
Predator wins. Timothy Olyphant getting slain by a shoulder cannon+ no more hitman movies = everyone wins.
-
The first movie made me quit playing the video game. Dulls-ville
-
hitman was insipid/anemic
-
And I'm not even joking. Terrible acting on the part of the male protagonist, plot holes large enough to drive a truck through, and seemingly mindless, gratuitous violence that had no real impact. After watching it, I was disgusted.
I mean, not even a completely nude and sexually sumptuous Olga Kurylenko could save that movie. Which boggles the mind, really--hot naked women makes everything better. If it failed to improve Hitman, then the movie clearly has some terrible, insurmountable flaws. -
...or anything...it's just......I'm going to go read some news about Iran...or maybe just get back to work. Sigh.
-
The game was bad. The movie was bad.Wonder, did it even make any money. Not my money. I stole them both. What? They were trying to do the same to me, by trying to make me pay for plastic crap.
-
Like fuck she did.
-
Will Timothy Oliphant be back or will they FINALLY cast Jason Statham?
-
Mostly due to Olyphant's take on the character, surprisingly enough. I never thought he seemed like a logical pick for 47, but he was so damned quirky in the part that he was very entertaining. Kinda like what made him such a good bad guy in Die Hard. Those two movies are probably his strongest showings to date, although I also enjoyed his part in "The Long Kiss Goodnight."
-
I knew this months ago but whoo hooo! Hitman was a lot of fun.
-
Mickey, the freaky Tarantino film student from Scream 2 to me. :P
-
I stick enjoyed it but there's zero doubt that FOX had their way with that film. Check out the original French credits without the Dark Angel scenes and the opening where the guy doesn't get blown up by the explosion. Instead he's taken to hospital where 47 disguised as a doctor puts a syringe in his neck.
-
She's a freakin' knockout but the complete lack of sexual tension present (thanks to her, Olyphant and a moronic script) killed a slam-dunk stiffy. So sad...
-
Took the words out of my mouth. Still his best performance AFAIC.
-
Was part of re shoots and never originally intended. Gens didn't even direct it if I remember correctly.
-
i SAW HITMAN AT MY FAMILY'S HOME LAST YAR-and I thought it was gonna be aflaming turd.It surprised me, and though ti so-so.Mind you, it was free to watch,If I'd have paid for it, sure-I'd be pissed too.Also-you know what I am sick of? Hollywood always getting these foregin directos(BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY THEM SHIT...compared to hiring an american director, whome certain unnions protect)...becasue they bring in cheap, unexperienced "talent' who almost always fuck up the movies.Hollywood, stop being cheap-it's kinda of counter productive.
-
He just seethed with rage. If he played Hitman like that, it would be a lot better. After all, one would have to be pretty fucked up emotionally to just go around murdering people. And Sheriff Bullock was just one step removed from being a cold-blooded murderer himself.
-
I thought the train swordfight was actually pretty awesome. The movie itself wasn't all that BAD, just kind of pointless. There was no real plot, and Olyphant simply does not have the quiet badassednessto play the hitman. It just looked like a bald Timothy Olyphant.
-
Olyphant was great in The Girl Next Door, which is just a great movie in general.
-
Jun 24, 2009 11:56:23 AM CDT
The first one was such a smash that we must make a sequel!!!
by azultool
-
they can prettymuch take the non-story in any direction(s) they want.
-
He was miscast sure...but he did all he could with the shit they gave him. And regardless...who cares if it wasn't all that? It had Olga's perky breasticles on display and they were fucking SUMPTUOUS.
-
It is not good news. The first one was not good. At all. Timmy should NOT be a leading man.
-
Olga walking around shirtless than this can't be all bad, right?
-
Jun 24, 2009 12:12:07 PM CDT
At least this piece of shit will go straight to DVD.
by jackpumpkinhead
Hopefully. The first one should have.

In a sea of cinematic retardation I have at last found salvation. Thank you Lord.
-
There I've said it.
-
In the first movie was worth seeing it for.
-
. . . every time I'm reminded Olyphant was somehow chosen to play a Die Hard villain. Zzzzzzzz. Hitman? Never saw it.
-
It's more of the same except this time is bald. See how dynamic an actor Timmy can be?
-
because he certainly has been awesome on both Deadwood and Damages.
-

This upsets AICN,but the Facebook movie is reported with a smile
by orionsangels
-
And the only thing I remember is that he wouln't fuck this hot girl that wanted to fuck him. He had no problem going around the world murdering people who may or may not be guilty. But when the hot girl is all over him, he's some kind of prude.
-
...and, without Googling, assume that the first one made a profit for the studio. What madness, then, to make a sequel- even as fanboys were not enthused.
-
Jun 24, 2009 12:36:31 PM CDT
The sequel will probably have more idiocy like that sword fight.
by jackpumpkinhead
Apparently, that's the part imbeciles liked.
-
His utter lack of emotion. I don't know if Olyphant played it well, or if that's just how he can act, but it was the perfect embodiment of the character and one of the few good things about the movie. Again, this good part is apparently what that imbeciles *disliked* in the movie, as evident even in this talkback.
-
...I thought it was entertaining and Olyphant was fucking hilarious. Whether he was meant to be or not...I can give a shit. I liked it. And I think we need a hell of a lot more Euro/Transporter-esque low budget action films. I fucking love this genre. Hot ass Eastern Euro gash....mmmmmmmmm...mmmmmmmmmmm............those who aren't into this-- enjoy UP motherfuckers.
-
How about...Taken, again!
Nah. -
Jun 24, 2009 12:45:52 PM CDT
The only good thing about the first one
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
was the usage of the Jasper Kyd music in the trailer. Good work on that one.
-
He is completely the wrong person for this role. Have you people actually played the games?
David Bateson is *the* only option. -
LOVE the games.
-
You can't lump all the French directors in and say they are "unexperienced talent". Did you see Gens' "Frontier(s)". He did a lot with $2.5 million. What bringing in a foreign indie director does (especially if they had a moderate hit in their past) is gives the studio a puppet to be their avatar for all decisions. Gens' visual style is all over "Hitman", but everything that sucked about it - I'd say that has to be a classic case of "too many cooks".
-
...instead of "Eldest" done right. I think some people need to get canned at Fox.
-
This guy is not a star.
As for the Hitman movie, itself, it was boring as all fuck. The chick was hot, but that was it. The game was much better written and executed.
Fox, spend your money on something worthwhile you ignorant fucks. -
It's a movie based on a fuckin videogame. It didn't aspire to be profound, intelligent or artistic. Hitman is just another harmless action flick for the young male crowd. Who gives a shit if they want to make a sequel? As long as there are perfect tits like Olga's in it again, I'll give it a rent.
-
Another one? I didn't know there was a first one.
-
but I can find better beat-off material on redtube and other lacivious sites.
Fox isn't getting my money. I'll just torrent the bitch. -
I want to see a live adaptation of Burgertime myself.
-
THAT'S what we need!!!
-
from OTHER episodes of Dark Angel next time.
-
Reason I liked hitman. And Olyphant did coo' with what he was given. Nice to see him both in Hitman and Die Hard 4.
-
final image of the hitman with the moon behind him. Everything else is vapor. I forgot about the movie ten minutes after watching it. It should have been called Action Movie, it was that generic.More proof that Ebert is slipping, he gave it 3 stars.
-
Prancing naked Kurylenko was the best part of HITMAN. Forget Olyphant, just give Olga a spinoff with instructions that she has to remain naked for the majority of the film. In one weekend you'd overtake the earnings of the first film.
-
and I mean that in the truest sense...
-
not great necessarily - but not that bad. I was a fan of the game so maybe that influenced me to like it but I did not hate it.
-
and THE SPIRIT. FUCK THAT MOVIE.
-
Next to Bangkok Dangerous, it looks like, um, a really good movie.
-
He's gonna do to hollywood what Michael Bay did to Transformers! Oh wait....
-
Now my acid reflux is going to kick in...
-
I'll second DGDB's opinions here. You guys seriously need to get off the high horse on every damn thing.
-
Hitman was about middle-of-the-road for uninspired videogame adaptions. Better than Max Payne, worse than Silent Hill. Most notable for the fabulous Russian prostitute, probably.
-
I thought the movie was entertaining and better than most shit. It also did the game a bit of justice. Only part I really hated was when he sees the kids playing the hitman video game, that was a slap in the face.
-
Umm, Danny is entitled to his opinions, but he praises Hitman and trashes Up in the same statement. So what is YOUR point.
-
The post is about Hitman. He said Hitman occupies a reasonable position in the low budget action realm with hot Euro chicks and I agree. Getting idiotically indignant over a sequel is just that. And I haven't seen Up yet so what is your point?
-
Rented it one night, Olyphant looked cool but the plot just didn't grab me. But I liked him in GO.
-
I read into your post that we (non fans of Hitman) should lighten up and not be so negative. Over a mediocre at best movie. I mentioned Up only because Danny did. A movie universally loved by many. Thats all.
-
First one was enjoyable, wasnt the shitfest I was expecting. They should get Jason Statham to play Hitman and get Louis Leterrier to direct
-
and we'd get Transporter 4..and yes, I thought #3 sucked. The first was good, and the second was so over the top to be fun in a cartoony way.
-
...with her machine gun and it explodes in a fiery *poof* with no debris whatsoever. Remember that ridiculous shit? Anyone?
-
Haha, yeah... wow, that was quite a scene. One of those scenes where you say out loud, "No. Fuck, no, they didn't just do that did they... FFFFFFUUUUUCK!!!".
Similar to that: The abrupt ending to Babylon A.D., the scene where Ultraviolet rides the motorcycle through the helicopter and it explodes for no apparent reason, and the entirety of The Spirit (sorry skimn, I only saw it recently and need to get the word out so that no one else is harmed by that atrocity). -

I could never understand all the whining about movies getting ma
by ditko
I mean, nobody is forcing you to watch anything, right? Your fave movie is getting remade? Fine, stick with your old DVD and run it dry. A sequel to a shitty movie? Who cares?
-
He was okay in Hitman.
-
Oh man, Fox will really screw this up if they do not invite Harry to an advanced screening. Obviously the movie will reek as he said Wolverine did when they ignored him on that. HOW CAN HOLLYWOOD CONTINUE MAKING MONEY IF THEY KEEP DISSING POOR HARRY?
-
Wrote Fiasco Heights, which was excellent. He could breathe new life into this franchise. Stop hating.
-
In the game the Hitman was older, and hard as stone. Plus the first movie was just horribly directed and written, really just straight to dvd material. Just terrible.
-
the Academy won't overlook a Hitman film. Maybe it will be one of the ten nominees.
-
soooooo boring
-
to be in the Fox Decision Making Meetings - I reckon it would be hilarious.
"So, what franchise can we resurrect next?"
"How about remaking the first Fantastic Four film? I mean the originals got to be like four years old now."
"oooh, and we could make another X-Men movie, only this time it could be just the girls, and we can even have some dance numbers in there, everyone loves dance movies at the moment. We'll call it X-Men Musical: Girls School"
"What about remaking Alien? We can show how peaceful they were before some giant robots came along and started fucking with their chi. Call McG"
"Terminator franchise? Lets scrap what's gone before and have Terminator 1901, where they send a Terminator back to London 1901 to kill Connors great great great grandfather - and they have to fight it off with the simple weapons they have"
"Oh, and we need another Hitman movie, most people will have forgotten the first one by now..." -
Hey, your Terminator 1901 idea actually sounds really cool: steam power vs a cyborg!
-
in deadwood but this film is one of the worst films ive EVER seen. these people are supposed to be ghosts like LEON, if you ever do see him your already dead, Not walking around in broad daylight in plain sight with a white suit and barcode tattoo plastered on your head. fucking moronoic film, another wasted videogame chance.
-
He calls out the Hitman for being a virgin, which is a pretty funny interpretation of the scene in which he, with a terrified look on his face, rejects naked Olga Kurylenko.
-
never really liked the game nor did i care for the movie. atleast it was better than max payne which aint saying much.
-
...to make a movie based on..(Insert your favorite videogame franchise here)
-
one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. the scene where the assassins are holding guns at each others' throats then decide to throw the guns away and pull out knives had everybody in the theater rolling for about 5 minutes after the fight scene was over
-

The game was always more about puzzle solving than action
by kevin_costners_recycled_piss
Sure, you could just waltz in with a big gun and shoot your target in the face but you'd normally end up like swiss cheese or, if you did escape you'd get a shitty score.
The fun was always had by scoping out the level, following, learning routines and then finally executing your chosen plan and watching as everything came together as you stroll away, your target dead and everyone thinking the whole thing was an accident. Very satisfying stuff.
To be honest, I wasn't really surprised to see FOX turn the whole thing into a mindless action flick and I'm sure we're just in for more of the same with the sequel. -
Twits bitch about how soft most action flicks are; you finally get a goofy low-budget fucked-up slugfest & you're still bitching. Fuckin' fanboys are pure git. Someone gimme a holler when these pristine little jizzlobbers' pristine sensibilities aren't offended. Better yet, get Harry a set visit--he'll shoot his load & the sheep'll follow. Fucking morons.
-
I loved the movie.
-
it's 100% blasphemy that they didn't get Jesper Kyd to do an original score for the movie
-
Fuck what ya'll talking bout
....It reminded me of a Luc Besson joint.
From the exotic locations to the conflicted anti-hero to the hot ass chick. And there was a story...
You guys suck.
... go watch Beaches -
I never saw the first one... and I likely won't see the second one.
Great game though. -

90 percent of you fuckers say you dont like shit....
by theycallmemrtibbs
Because the talkbacker before you didn't like it.
I thought this was a site to discuss movies, Not sit around and bitch about them, I mean damn, This shit is ridiculous. I never seen so many negative motherfuckers clustered in one area since I took a monster shit a few weeks back and looked in the toilet. (it was pretty impressive)
I cant wait until the purple Kool-aid is passed around. I wonder how many will take a sip because the person before them did? -
Am yet to come across a fan of games who didn't like the movie. Unlike horde of fans crying about their childhood being raped.
-
Made the film look even cheaper, but I enjoyed seeing Geneva Locke, who played the young Jessica Alba, on bluray. Geneva Locke looks arguably better than alba now (definitely less skanky)
-
... not a sequel for this wannabe character.
-
it's been over 3 years since Blood Money and they still haven't shown it
-
Hitman wasn't *that* bad...especially when compared to most other video game adaptations
-
It's only been 30 or so years.
-
And Xavier Gens is an awesome director. I want to see the unrated Hitman version, because I read somewhere that the execs were not happy with Gens vision and the film had to be reshot for a big part. I guess Gens made a vicous and violent movie that execs didn't want any part of.
Timothy Olyphant is great. The guy can play great bad guys. He was awesome in The Girl Next Door and supercool in Hitman. -
Laughing at those who decry Hitman - you knew it was based on a videogame ... and you saw it anyway. Just like you'll see Transformers 2 eventually. Just like you know that if Harry had seen Transformers 2 with Megan Fox by his side at the premiere, he'd be gushing on the "dazzling whirling brilliance of the cgi artistry" or "Michael Bay's virtuosic cinematic vision" and wax rhapsodic on the "sleekly sexy and versatile thespian goddess who calls herself Miss Fox". Self-delusion - its the plague of AICN.
-
Had a Luc Besson flavour to it.
-
GIANT PIG!!!
-
Man, talk about a huge waste of potential -- Wimmer knocked EQUILIBRIUM out of the park (as well as pretty much hand Christian Bale the showreel needed for him to land the BATMAN BEGINS gig), and actually succeeded in making a better MATRIX sequel than the Wachowskis did for about a tenth of the budget. ULTRAVIOLET, on the other hand ... sigh. You pretty much knew about five seconds into the opening credits, when you realized that they ripped off Elfman's SPIDER-MAN theme and the "comic art" concept from SPIDER-MAN 2, that things were gonna be bad. By the time you realized Mila Jovovich killed 133 people and only got a scratch on her arm, not to mention the fact that the whole "hemophage" business was just some dopey excuse to let her run around on walls and act like Aeon Flux®, you began to realize that, sometimes, cheaper is better.
-
Would like to see it go a bit darker. And bring back Olga for more nude scenes.
-
film, and are called sheep, because our opinions differ from yours. As someone stated earlier, Fox took a game concept that was about sleuth and deception and clever kills, and turned it into a standard euro-action movie. If you liked it fine. Don't bitch and complain about those who didn't.
-
Conflicted anti-hero? I didn't realize Timmy could even convey that.The movie sucked.Have some kool-aid.
-
Don't forget to clean up
-
its funny because it's retarded
-
Better head over to the free clinic!

I'll let you get Back to watching Step up 2: The Streets
by theycallmemrtibbs
-
And true, I cannot compare to the genius of "Just fucked my pillow". Too busy watching Step Up 2 I guess...
-
I'm not trying to sway u one way or the other.
-
They should have hired him to reprise the character for the movie, since he did the voice, played him in every game, and his appearance is what 47 was based upon.
Idiotic that they didn't cast him. -
might see it if it's ever on tv.
If there's nothing else on, but I'd probably watch a big foot documentary on the national geographic channel that I've seen 20x before watching hitman
Just to give you an idea my feeling for a 2nd one.
