Oh, For The Love Of God...Fox Ramping Up Another HITMAN Movie!!!

Published at:  Jun 24, 2009 11:03:29 AM CDT

Merrick here...

THIS IESB article reveals work on a HITMAN sequel has begun.

Says IESB:

IESB has confirmed that 20th Century Fox has hired writer Kyle Ward to pen the script for the sequel to Hitman!
[EDIT]
Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Chuck Gordon will return as producers.

I recall being bored out of my mind by the first HITMAN movie and the idea of a second one doesn't get me going in any way. I think watching Timothy Olyphant can be awesome under certain conditions, but nothing about his work in either LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD or HITMAN convinced me that he's a particularly promising or intriguing bigscreen presence. There's a gravity missing...

Olyphant was miscast as Hitman. And he was the least threatening bad-guy in blockbuster history. How do we go from Hans Gruber to some twit with a computer?

    I just netflxed Hitman...

    by henry fool

And really liked it actually. I thought the director over did it on stylized elements. I would have preferred more Bourne-like realism. But I thought the story and set pieces were entertaining. Timothy Olyphant gave a likably quirky performance that complimented the character's fish out of water nature. I loved how awkward he was with women, I think it was supposed to be poking fun at how a lot of gamers are with women.

Not a great film but it certainly didn't bore me. I don't know if I'll get to the theaters to see this one but I'll definitely check it out on Blue Ray...

This is the same director that made the great "Frontier(s)" in his home country before being plucked from France to direct a mega-budget videogame movie. Producers had a big hand in fucking that film up, I would guess.

    by aversiontherapy2

If you produce a film that could have any background? The game character is so different from the character they put on screen it was a waste of their money. Agree that Olyphant can be brilliant but he was so totally miscast. Put Stratham in there and have him say nothing the whole film, just kill people.

Hitman was the worst movie I've ever seen

    by maelstrom_zero

And I'm not even joking. Terrible acting on the part of the male protagonist, plot holes large enough to drive a truck through, and seemingly mindless, gratuitous violence that had no real impact. After watching it, I was disgusted.
I mean, not even a completely nude and sexually sumptuous Olga Kurylenko could save that movie. Which boggles the mind, really--hot naked women makes everything better. If it failed to improve Hitman, then the movie clearly has some terrible, insurmountable flaws.

    by ninjarap

Mostly due to Olyphant's take on the character, surprisingly enough. I never thought he seemed like a logical pick for 47, but he was so damned quirky in the part that he was very entertaining. Kinda like what made him such a good bad guy in Die Hard. Those two movies are probably his strongest showings to date, although I also enjoyed his part in "The Long Kiss Goodnight."

    by umaga

I stick enjoyed it but there's zero doubt that FOX had their way with that film. Check out the original French credits without the Dark Angel scenes and the opening where the guy doesn't get blown up by the explosion. Instead he's taken to hospital where 47 disguised as a doctor puts a syringe in his neck.

You can't lump all the French directors in and say they are "unexperienced talent". Did you see Gens' "Frontier(s)". He did a lot with $2.5 million. What bringing in a foreign indie director does (especially if they had a moderate hit in their past) is gives the studio a puppet to be their avatar for all decisions. Gens' visual style is all over "Hitman", but everything that sucked about it - I'd say that has to be a classic case of "too many cooks".

They Had Better Send Harry to an Advance Screening!

    by dittos

Oh man, Fox will really screw this up if they do not invite Harry to an advanced screening. Obviously the movie will reek as he said Wolverine did when they ignored him on that. HOW CAN HOLLYWOOD CONTINUE MAKING MONEY IF THEY KEEP DISSING POOR HARRY?

    horrible casting

    by charlie_allnut

In the game the Hitman was older, and hard as stone. Plus the first movie was just horribly directed and written, really just straight to dvd material. Just terrible.

    by lemure_v2

to be in the Fox Decision Making Meetings - I reckon it would be hilarious.

"So, what franchise can we resurrect next?"

"How about remaking the first Fantastic Four film? I mean the originals got to be like four years old now."

"oooh, and we could make another X-Men movie, only this time it could be just the girls, and we can even have some dance numbers in there, everyone loves dance movies at the moment. We'll call it X-Men Musical: Girls School"

"What about remaking Alien? We can show how peaceful they were before some giant robots came along and started fucking with their chi. Call McG"

"Terminator franchise? Lets scrap what's gone before and have Terminator 1901, where they send a Terminator back to London 1901 to kill Connors great great great grandfather - and they have to fight it off with the simple weapons they have"

"Oh, and we need another Hitman movie, most people will have forgotten the first one by now..."

He calls out the Hitman for being a virgin, which is a pretty funny interpretation of the scene in which he, with a terrified look on his face, rejects naked Olga Kurylenko.

    by sharpie

one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. the scene where the assassins are holding guns at each others' throats then decide to throw the guns away and pull out knives had everybody in the theater rolling for about 5 minutes after the fight scene was over

The game was always more about puzzle solving than action

    by kevin_costners_recycled_piss

Sure, you could just waltz in with a big gun and shoot your target in the face but you'd normally end up like swiss cheese or, if you did escape you'd get a shitty score.

The fun was always had by scoping out the level, following, learning routines and then finally executing your chosen plan and watching as everything came together as you stroll away, your target dead and everyone thinking the whole thing was an accident. Very satisfying stuff.

To be honest, I wasn't really surprised to see FOX turn the whole thing into a mindless action flick and I'm sure we're just in for more of the same with the sequel.

Twits bitch about how soft most action flicks are; you finally get a goofy low-budget fucked-up slugfest & you're still bitching. Fuckin' fanboys are pure git. Someone gimme a holler when these pristine little jizzlobbers' pristine sensibilities aren't offended. Better yet, get Harry a set visit--he'll shoot his load & the sheep'll follow. Fucking morons.

    by toby_fn_wong

And Xavier Gens is an awesome director. I want to see the unrated Hitman version, because I read somewhere that the execs were not happy with Gens vision and the film had to be reshot for a big part. I guess Gens made a vicous and violent movie that execs didn't want any part of.

Timothy Olyphant is great. The guy can play great bad guys. He was awesome in The Girl Next Door and supercool in Hitman.

Hollywood - giving you what you want

    by jackrabbitslim

Laughing at those who decry Hitman - you knew it was based on a videogame ... and you saw it anyway. Just like you'll see Transformers 2 eventually. Just like you know that if Harry had seen Transformers 2 with Megan Fox by his side at the premiere, he'd be gushing on the "dazzling whirling brilliance of the cgi artistry" or "Michael Bay's virtuosic cinematic vision" and wax rhapsodic on the "sleekly sexy and versatile thespian goddess who calls herself Miss Fox". Self-delusion - its the plague of AICN.

    Re: ULTRAVIOLET

    by armageddonproductions

Man, talk about a huge waste of potential -- Wimmer knocked EQUILIBRIUM out of the park (as well as pretty much hand Christian Bale the showreel needed for him to land the BATMAN BEGINS gig), and actually succeeded in making a better MATRIX sequel than the Wachowskis did for about a tenth of the budget. ULTRAVIOLET, on the other hand ... sigh. You pretty much knew about five seconds into the opening credits, when you realized that they ripped off Elfman's SPIDER-MAN theme and the "comic art" concept from SPIDER-MAN 2, that things were gonna be bad. By the time you realized Mila Jovovich killed 133 people and only got a scratch on her arm, not to mention the fact that the whole "hemophage" business was just some dopey excuse to let her run around on walls and act like Aeon Flux®, you began to realize that, sometimes, cheaper is better.

film, and are called sheep, because our opinions differ from yours. As someone stated earlier, Fox took a game concept that was about sleuth and deception and clever kills, and turned it into a standard euro-action movie. If you liked it fine. Don't bitch and complain about those who didn't.

    by nix_cadavre

They should have hired him to reprise the character for the movie, since he did the voice, played him in every game, and his appearance is what 47 was based upon.
