Live in Chicago? Wanna see the Sundance & SXSW favorite HUMPDAY with director Lynn Shelton Q&A? Capone has the details!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
For those of you who have been semi-regular attendees of our Chicago Ain't It Cool screenings over the summer, you've probably heard my pleas to come support some of the smaller films that I've been bringing to the Windy City as well as the colossal studio films. So far, you guys have answered the call at films like AWAY WE GO and MOON, but let's face it, those films are among some of the higher-profile small films the world has to offer right now, featuring actors you've heard of and fairly sizable marketing campaigns. The next film I want to tell you about is called HUMPDAY, winner of a Special Jury Prize at Sundance and an audience favorite at SXSW.
I don't think I laughed harder at any other film at SXSW than I did at HUMPDAY, the story of two college friends, reunited years later, who essentially work themselves up into a drunken frenzy and agree to make a very special film for an erotic art film festival called Humpfest. The film stars one of my favorite indie actors, Mark Duplass (HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS), who is also a writer and director in his own right of films such as THE PUFFY CHAIR and BAGHEAD, and Joshua Leonard, who you might remember as one of the three leads in THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. We're also very lucky that director Lynn Shelton will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A.
Here's the trailer.
So this is one of those movies I've been talking about over the last few weeks. This is the kind of film you need to support so that we can keep bringing you the big films over the summer. More than that, I need you guys to trust me that this film with actors you've probably never heard of and a title that you might never have heard of is simply one of the funniest things you're going to see all year. You guys are always telling me how much you love to support great movies, well now is your chance to prove it. HUMPDAY is actually coming out in July, but we're getting a major jump on it's release date.
This exclusive AICN screening of HUMPDAY with post-screening Q&A with director Lynn Shelton takes place Monday, June 29 at 7:00pm at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners).
Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "HUMPDAY CONTEST" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): Tell me about a favorite film that you "discovered." (Okay, that's not technically a question, but roll with it). I'm looking for the title of a film and a short explanation about how you walked into a theater or popped in a DVD or VHS tape and watched a great movie that you maybe never even heard of before, and it ended up being one of those films you recommended to anyone who crossed your path.
Keep your answer BRIEF--limit your answers to 75 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). Winners will receive an email from me later this week. Good luck, everyone! Hope to see you there.

Mostly because the DVD stopped working, but I didn't exactly rush out to get it replaced.

Is this about two guys making a gay porn? I think the trailer edited out a male kissing scene.
-
This does kind of sound like you are holding something back. They don't make a gay porn flick do they?
-
I hope it's a small theatre. Like, really small. Your living room, perhaps.

I'm no internet expert or anything, but I do know that you typically do not want the people reading your site to navigate away from it. Which is to say, you might want to consider making it so that when someone clicks on a link you provide it opens up in a separate tab or window instead of the same tab/window in which they are reading AICN, effectively navigating away from AICN...just a thought, yo...

but judging from the "OMG it's a gay porn! dudes might be kissing!!! AAAHHHH" response, maybe she's just a little outside of AICN's target demographic. which is sad...maybe if she sold collectible comic book figurines?

every time I see one of these cool things in Chicago, it stings a little. so I won't e-mail you, since I ain't from Chi-ka-go, but here's my story: I "discovered" Tarsem's "The Fall". one of my favorite movies EVER, and none of my friends and family had heard of it at all. I pimped it out so hard, I literally probably got 40 people or so to see it in the theater, and almost all of them loved it and spread the word.
