ScoreKeeper and BSX Records Honor Sir Christopher Lee With A CD Soundtrack Contest That Really Sucks!

Published at:  Jun 19, 2009 8:11:40 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here nursing a sharp pain in my neck to bring you another blood-curdling cool soundtrack contest.

If you recall, Christopher Lee was recently knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for decades of countless memorable stage and theatrical performances. Of course we all know it was because the Queen knew Lee was the best damn Dracula ever to grace the silver screen.

…or perhaps to curry favor with Lee in case he turned out to be the real Count Dracula.

To help celebrate Sir Christopher Lee’s knightly adornment the undead souls over at BSX Records have decided to offer up five copies of DRACULA A.D. 1972 (1972) autographed by composer Mike Vickers and actress Caroline Munro (who played Laura Bellows), as prizes for a contest so maniacal it defies the primitive blood lust of the walking undead everywhere.

This updated vampiric tale produced by Hammer Films stars Sir Christopher Lee as Count Dracula and Peter Cushing as the inimitable Professor Van Helsing. The score nods modernity by pitting traditional horror orchestrations with frenetic pop-jazz rhythms within a field of wildly expressive electronic manipulations.

But wait there’s more…

Each winner will also receive a CD soundtrack for CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER (1974) composed by Laurie Johnson. Another Hammer Films production, this movie sports a score combining three major genre elements into one: horror, the swashbuckler, and the western.

For more information, check out the two links below where you can also hear audio samples from each CD:

DRACULA A.D. 1972

CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER

So what do you have to do to seize these luscious prizes for yourselves?

At 87 years old, Christopher Lee is at the top of his game. He’s more popular today than at any previous time in his career and with films like ALICE IN WONDERLAND (2010) and THE HOBBIT (2011) on the horizon, Sir Lee is sure to remain booked for years.

Your task, should you chose to accept it, is to pitch Christopher Lee one last film in which he absolutely could not refuse donning the black cape and white fangs reviving the iconic role which cemented his legacy. Write an brief pitch (roughly 250 words or so) outlining the plot that would guarantee Lee returns to play Count Dracula. Some questions you might answer may be…What’s the title for the new film? What’s the basic plot? Who will you go after to star along side Lee? Who would direct the film? And most importantly, who would be blessed to score it?

The five people who submit the most titillating pitch for a new Dracula film starring Christopher Lee will win a limited edition copy (1500 units) of DRACULA A.D. 1972, autographed by composer Mike Vickers and actress Caroline Munro, along with a limited edition copy (1500 units) of CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER, composed by Laurie Johnson, courtesy of BSX Records.

Email me at scorekeeper@aintitcool.com with the subject: I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD! with your full name, mailing address, a valid email address, your all-time favorite Dracula film and your complete pitch for the new movie which will bring back Christopher Lee as Count Dracula (again, keep it around 250 words or so). The pitches will be posted on Ain’t It Cool News along with the names of the five winners.

The deadline will be Tuesday, June 30th, at 11:59PM EST. Only one entry per person please. Any duplicate entries will be discarded. International entries accepted.

“The Count is back, with an eye for London’s hotpants…and a taste for everything.”

Sure it's used, but the disc is clean and the movie is great. Blockbuster is just a sad, sad thing as of late.

Also, you can get The Horror of Dracula, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, and Dracula A.D. 1972 (which is one of the worst titles for a Dracula film ever, although the movie is pretty damn good) for about $10 at Target. Target owes me shill money!

If there are big-time lovers of Dracula AD 1972 out there like I am (the blast of colors, sexy girls, etc.), be sure to check out the latest issue (Issue #22) from Little Shoppe of Horrors, which dedicates an entire 100 pages to the film along with The Satanic Rites of Dracula. (No, I have absolutely nothing to do with this publisher). Go to:

than a Cajun barnecue in hell. But DRACULA A.D. 1972 is the nadir of the Hammer ihndustry. I enjoyed Lee's aristocratic panache but Peter Cushing was infinitely more flexible (cast as Dr. Who, Sherlock Holmes, Baron Frankenstei, et al)--a truly great actor. And a contst called I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD is some kind of homage? Jesus, it sounds like a 5th rate Vegas ensemble that entertains the gamblers' kids.
