Quint has NIGHT OF THE CREEPS DVD info... and what's this about a sequel?!?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here just back from an awesome night of creeping out the Alamo Drafthouse. The good folks at the Alamo put on the show and allowed me to host it. We had the cast including Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow and the man, the myth, the motherfucking legend Mr. Tom Atkins in attendance as well writer/director Fred Dekker. They screened this new transfer, not off of a DVD, but the actual High Def master with the original, previously only seen on bootlegs, ending.
It was a great night, the Q&A going nearly an hour and everybody, including Mr. Atkins, stayed until past one in the morning to sign autographs, take pictures and talk to the fans.
I was able to get the jump on some interesting info regarding the DVD that I wanted to share with you. But first, someone in the audience during the Q&A asked about a sequel and Fred Dekker asked if they wanted one, with the original cast returning. A resounding applause met this, of course. He later hinted at having written some ideas down for a sequel. Anything new from Dekker is awesome (he's apparently going to be directing a drama in the near future), but I'm a bit psyched at the idea of him returning to horror comedy, especially dipping back into a world I love so much. Would this mean Tom Atkins is going to need a twin brother? We'll see how this project evolves.
Now, let's look at some the DVD details:
- Release date is October 20th, 2009
- Sixty Minutes of Behind the Scenes featurettes:
- "Birth of Creeps" featuring Dekker talking about the origins of the project
- "Cast of the Creeps" featuring Jason Lively, Tom Atkins, Steve Marshall and Jill Whitlow
- "Creating The Creeps" featuring interviews with SFX creators David B. Miller and Robert Kurtzman
- A special Tom Atkins centric piece called "Tom Atkins: Man of Action"
- "Escape of the Creeps" a detailed look at the post-production.
- Deleted scenes
- Fred Dekker solo commentary
- Cast commentary featuring Atkins, Whitlow, Marshall and Lively
- The original theatrical ending
- And footage from tonight's Cast and Crew reunion screening at the Alamo Drafthouse.
The big question is to Blu or not to Blu. I am, of course, on the "fuck yes, I want a Blu-Ray" side. What about you?

All I know is that it can't beat watching it for the 100th time on USA's Up All Night with Rhonda Shear (or was it Gilbert Gottfried...can't believe I would ever confuse the two). I love this movie!!!
-
Especially not since I read pretty much every week about how the transfer of ANOTHER classic movie sucks ass on Blu-Ray! Yes, there are DVDs with crappy transfers too, but I won't pay more money for something, that makes the same mistakes as the already established system.
-
It seems like Rhonda Shear hosted Fridays and Gilbert Gottfried Saturdays . Could be wrong though
-
"They're dead."
-
And we don't need a sequel thanks.
-
and have her get naked
-
and if at all possible, region freeeeeeee so i can order here in Australia where we never get cool screenings of new prints or hd transferrs of awesome cult movies
-
...but it sure smells good!
-
I think you have that confused with HD/DVD, lol. As far as BLU goes, for NEW movies...NOTHING looks better. Pick and choose with the old, but chances are you already own your favorite old movie anyway. So don't be a twit. Go to highdefdigest.com, read the reviews, and make an informed decision. This disc will be amazing!!
-
of a movie not released in '09. The DVD/Blu of Up is my most anticipated release of a movie that hit theaters this year. And I've never even seen Night of the Creeps!
-
The format still seems kinda elite. I watch way too many movies not to upgrade to the format but I really don't see the average Joe forking over the money to re-buy movies they already have on a tried and true (and fucking cheaper all the time) format.
The eventual switch to Blu-ray almost seems as shady as the government forcing television to be broadcast in digital.
-
Of course, the rumor about the remake is a bit interesting. I hope they pull of Buffy reboot on Decker since he really turned a crap movie into one of the best movies of the 80s. Bluray = laserdisc. Why pay more for the same dvd just because its brighter. Bad time to have a product like this out when the economy is in the shitter. This and PS3 are going to be the jokes of the entertainment industry in the next few years. Of course, I could be wrong, because people are sheep and force me to have to buy one.
-
Everything else looks blurry now.
-
Anybody who says it's a scam is trying to justify their cheapness/ignorance. There are not a whole lot of really bad transfers out there, and the worst blu-ray still tends to look better than a DVD of the same title. Don't get me wrong I read reviews and don't buy some of the shittier encodes, but for something like say Robocop, which doesn't get the best picture quality reccomendations, it is worlds above the VHS tape/PAy TV broadcast quality I originally saw thatmovie in. Was like seeing it for the first time to hear ED-209 coming through my subwoofer.
-
Folks, keep in mind that this so called 'average Joe's is not expected to 're-buy' their existing movies on BluRay. They will just purchase new movies going forward in the newer format, if they choose that option. When dvd first started, almost every review had mention of the vhs to dvd transfer. You hardly ever get that anymore, but you get it from most Bluray reviews, so keep in that you should have a look at the film first if you are worried about a quality transfer. Average Joe is not really gonna be that discriminating in their purchases, epecially now that stores like Walmart are selling Bluray 2 packs for $20.00 a pop.

this movie has a special place in my heart.
-
a blu-ray version of this movie would be amazing. i was at the drafthouse screening and the print they got there was absolutely beautiful. speaking of beautiful, jill witlow autographed my friend's poster with, "would a fuck be out of the question?" he was quite proud.
-
I'd prefer Blu-ray. There are very few movies I'd consider buying again when it's on blu-ray. When I got the Blu-ray I just started buying Blu-ray exclusively. The upscaled DVD is fine for most of the old collection...
-
I though Blu Ray had 5 more years AT BEST before something better comes along. I'm not wasting my $$$ on BLU!!!
-
On DVD

Like VHS over Beta???? :o| Seriously?!?!?

Fred should tie them together into one movie. Would be nice to see the Squad go up against the modern monsters like Freddy, Chucky, Leatherface, Myers, Jason, Pinhead, Candyman, Pumpkinhead, Ghoulies Puppetmasters, the Blob, Killer Klowns, Critters, Munchies, Terrorvision.
It will never happen. I know the fan film plays with that theme. Still would be cool to see a real sequel do that. The magic ticket from last action hero could be involved somehow.
So yeah A nice Monster Squad Vs The Creeps mash up sequel could be lots of fun.
Dracula Wants The Amulet!
Maybe Fred will put images of the Amulet in the Gallery, if and when Monster Squad double dips on home media format. Nice closeup pics- Font, Back, and Side to Side shots.

Anyone who doesn't like the BD medium should really check out, "There Will Be Blood". Watching that movie in 1080p through an HDMI connection on a 61" screen was one of the most amazing visual experiences I've ever had. Spiderman 2 is another film that looked incredible (all the Spidey films look great, it's just that S2 is really the only entry in the series that was everything I wanted it to be).

That said, I'd just die to have Night of the Creeps in Blue. It's is my favorite 80's horror movie, just a slice ahead of the magnificent Evil Dead movies.
-
A thing showed up there a month or so back at Amazon that let you pre-order Night of the Creeps on dvd, though they had no release date for it at the time. Though I had already managed to get a good, HD transfer of the film from the underground market, I'll be looking forward to the official release on dvd with all these extra's! Once again showing that us fans of the film are going to want the real thing. The bootlegs only wet our appetite. Recommend people pre-order their copies. As for Blue Ray, I'm not really not that interested. In my opinion, Blue Ray is just not worth it. All the extra high price for something that can only be improved so far. With well over 2,000 movies in my dvd collection, along with tv series and whatnot, I'm not interested in starting my collection over with another format that really, honestly, just does not offer all that much more improvement when it comes to at least modern films. I have a beautiful flat screen tv, and a great player, pristine imagery, sound system, etc. I don't think films need to be super perfect. And, with some older films, the grain is part of the atmosphere. Either way, I think the whole Blue ray is great for people who really want and can afford to push it to the limits, but for the average person, there really is not that much gain, and a lot of money lost in the pursuit on some minor improvements (particularly with newer films). So, that's my opinion.

That's actually a cool idea. Both can definitely live in the same universe. I doubt that will happen, but to whomever suggested it - cool idea.

I've never seen this movie, but I've heard of it of course
by The Amazing G
I can't wait to finally see it!

Man I am so jealous I didnt go to this. I met Jason Lively a few months back and we talked about the DVD release and how much I loved the film. Would have been great to see therm all answering Q&A.
-
I don't know how you can own a flat screen, LCD or plasma, and not see the difference between standard DVD's and Blu. I watched The International over the weekend, and although the movie itself came up a little short, Tom Tykwer's use of widescreen and location work just POPPED off the screen. Beautiful work. And the Guggenheim sequence should be shown to the Bond producers if they're unsure who to direct the next Bond.

Will they digitally remove the fish lines from the Creeps/grass
by Monkey_King
That always bugged me, but was so cool when those buggers slid through the grass like slippery eels travelling in various directions.
-
I thought it was a little short, it seems that just as the action really gets going it ends, plus it needed some more naked sorority girls, the more naked sorority girls there are in a movie, the better it is!
