And the winner of the MondoTees/AICN Metal Tyler Stout RoboCop poster is...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the winner of this awesome RoboCop poster, a limited edition printed on metal signed by artist Tyler Stout. Retailing at $300, this is what it looks like.

I waded through the entries, which ranged from god-awful to confusing to smart and really cool. If you remember what I wanted was a magazine ad in the tradition of the darkly satirical TV commercials from the movies. Take a look below at the top 10 finalists. I will start out with the top three, winner first and include the 7 runners up. The winner of the contest is one Mr. Ryan Parker of San Antonio, TX. There were slicker ads, there were funnier ads, but I think this one looked exactly like it was pulled out of an old magazine and the way the text reads with the image cracks me up every time I look at it.

Jamie Martin of England came close with this, which is very polished (love the coffee stain), but the humor wasn’t quite there for me.

The third place would be this entry from Timothy Lim and Mark Pellegrini of Little Rock, Arkansas. I love the style, I love the humor, I love the crinkling of the paper, but it didn’t feel like it came out of a vintage magazine to me. Great effort, though, guys.

Now here are the 7 others that were under serious consideration. Some are very rough, but made me laugh, some didn’t make me laugh, but looked sharp and some are just interesting. From Michael Wayne Smith from South Boston, MA… “I’m not “ruff” on the environment” had me laughing out loud.

The next comes from Chad Boutilier of Canada. It’s pretty sweet, but looks like a page out of a comic book more than a piece of standard print advertising. His idea isn’t all that far off, probably.

The next one comes from Ben Martin and Beth Link of Denver, Colorado. I liked the colored pencil style and the topical satire.

Next up is an entry from Josh Gilbert of Glendale, WI. I found it really funny.

This entry from Jason Nelson was heavy on the topical social satire and was well designed, just fell short of the look I wanted.

I loved the torn newspaper look of Jason Kontolemos’ entry. A lot of time and effort went into this one and it was probably 4th on my finalists. Great work, Jason.

And finally we have Scott Gordon of Birmingham, AL. His entry was the funniest. The satire was right on, but the craftsmanship didn’t exactly fit the contest. But I still laugh when I look at it.

Thanks to all who entered and thanks to MondoTees for supplying the awesome poster. And another congratulations out to Ryan Parker for the win. Enjoy that poster! I’m incredibly envious. I look forward to seeing a lot of you guys at the big cast and crew reunion screening of NIGHT OF THE CREEPS I’m hosting at the Alamo Ritz tomorrow night. I had dinner with Tom Atkins, Jill Whitlow, Jason Lively, Fred Dekker, Jason Lively, Steve Marshall and DVD producer extraordinaire Michael Felsher tonight and they are super awesome. It’s going to be a kicking night. And if you didn’t get your mitts on this MondoTees poster, check the Alamo lobby before the screening to pick up their Night of the Creeps event poster. It glows in the dark! Check it out below!
