Pitdoc returns with images from the Licensing Show! AVENGERS!?! SCOTT PILGRIM!! Depp's RANGO! And more!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It's that time of year again and our always reliable Pitdoc is sneaking around the Licensing Show snapping up pictures. They've moved from NY to Las Vegas this year, I'm told, but that didn't dissuade him, no sirree bob.
The big stuff so far is Avengers and Scott Pilgrim. Really sweet, if I do say so myself. This is the first of a few reports featuring Pitdoc's sneaky work! Enjoy!
Hi guys, Pitdoc here, once again from the Licensing Show .This year ,they moved the whole thing to Vegas, and I thought I'd take a trip to look at posters and lose money. Anyway, a few posters that I'm not sure are out there yet; specifically , for some Dreamworks movies, as well as SCOTT PILGRIM ( the poster was 20 feet tall!).

Awesome work, Pitdoc. Thanks for the heads up! I look forward to seeing what else you snap up for us!

Word up

Is a twat of the highest order.
-
cant wait... can I just hibernate now and wake up in 2010 when the summer movies dont all suck??
-
I heard that when Chris Sanders came in, the first thing he did was a complete reversal of the butt-ugly angular designs the movie sported before he came aboard. Did I hear wrong?
-
When they are that formulaic, it seems like it will be more rushed studio shit.
-
Or, at least, "TRANSFORMERS 2.0" <BR><BR>I can't have everything, I guess.
-
opening in late July and not over 4th of July weekend?!? Do they not realize the combo power of America's holiday and America's captain?
-
do we expect this whole "dorks are ruling the world" thing to last that long?
-
caruso_stalker is going to be disappointed.
-
Huh? He's always struck me as a cool chap. Unless provoked by a fucktard. (TheExterminator, for example)
-
Doesn't shatter the world, but it makes me happy to see Marvel having continuity within (some) of their films.
-
I want to like the Avengers' symbol. They defiantly are going with the Ultimates' theme which is ok. Ultimates always felt like the George w. Bush Avengers were everything is PR spin and they have no clue what the real threat is until it bites them in the ass. Hopefully, they will at least go with Hulk as the villain then team member when the real villain is revealed.
-
The Avengers, in the 616 universe, have been under the wing of SHIELD, to some degree, for at least a decade. Or is my addled brain mixing up history? Wasn't Peter Gyrich connected to SHIELD?

2012..even the Mayans knew Avengers wud'nt happen
by the Green Gargantua
I will walk into the theater, take my seat and before the room darkens an astroid will hit, Cthuhlu will rise, North Korea will nuke us with air born AIDS (and there will be Zombies.) ........and I will be thinking FUCK, I WANTED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

This really isn't shaping up to be to appetising a year
by seppukudkurosawa
Just a whole lot of campy looking comic adaptations. Thank Crom for Scott Pilgrim.
-
Um..Up until Bendis the Avengers had a loose affiliation with SHIELD,but the New Avengers don't,The Mighty Avengers did for a bit,and the Dark Avengers are run by HAMMER.And I'm pretty sure that Gyrich was working for some branch of the government but I don't believe it was SHIELD proper.
-
Those North Korean air born AIDS nukes will make you retardead.
-
I hope it is just as boring, lackluster, and overrated as the first one. <P> Gotta love the final fight scene.... wow truly deserving of all the hype and praise.
-
I get not liking a film, but why would you want the sequel to suck?
-
beat out Captain America for 4th of July opening weekend. What the fuck is wrong with this country?
-
That Scott Pilgrim giant poster looks unbelievably awesome. Hopefully they sell a version of that later on.
-
A cowboy story about a lizard that rides a roadrunner?
-
Iron Man was great up until it became Robot on Robot fighting.I loved it,but the last act falls apart.Hopefully the script is better this time.
-
I'm a AICN talkbacker. I will even bitch about a few pictures of some posters. I hate movies that are actually entertaining. I'm so indie that I only watch blank video.
-
And unfortunately, it will happen on my 31st birthday.
-
I really do
-
That was announced quite awhile ago but nothing about it up there. Guess it fell off Marvel's slate. Too bad, I would have LOVED to see that movie.
-
Yeah,I want that. They don't even need to do any other posters. That should just be the one sheet.
-
Doesn't it suck when they option the hell out of a shit ton of properties...and do nothing with them?Theoretically,we should have an Ant-Man movie,a Teen Titans movie,Supermax...etc,etc.Find a comic,I bet it's optioned, but the chances of it becoming a movie are slim to none.
-
For giving PAVLOV'S HOUSE a release date.
-
Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Mighty Thor, and The Invincible IronMan are clearly the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Thats why I suggest an arm full of heroin and a Fred Flintstone size crack rock for while we wait in line. Nice Marmot & D.Vader are invited.
-
Sorry... wrong film.
-
Mark my words. 2012 will be the end days for comic movies. Time for something else.
-
<p>i used to go to school with him ( and idris elba) but in a weird coincidence bumped into him in Leicester square today. </p> <p>One of these guys has to be in the avengers as the black panther. with a global assemble hero film, you can't have an all white cast. Someone hire one of these guys stat!</p>
-
2002? What year is it now? 2009?<p> I'm sorry, but those of y'all that think that the "Comic Book Movie Craze" which started with the first Spidey movie will be DONE by 2012 are just idiots.
-
...started with x-men not spider-man. So it was even earlier than that.
-
They announced THOR, so I'm thinking maybe we're closer to hearing about CAP than we may realize.
-
He is the dude, dude.
-
and get's butchered witht he rush to get it out there without a proper script and what will inevitably be a pseudo-bankable but all wrong for the role star. And man tha film lives or dies on BOTH the script and casting being incredible, but if you think it's gonna happen you haven't been paying attention for the last, oh history of comic book movies or so.
-
Why not? It doesn't have to be a huge tentpole film, but maybe on a smaller scale like Blade. And come on, he should be in the Avengers movie. For one, he's a cool character. Two, he's one of the few black heroes in the Marvel Universe that could carry his own film. And three.... yeah, the Avengers are gonna need a black guy in the cast. <p> Oh wait, I guess they're covered with Sam Jackson...<p> Point is, Black Panther movie should go ahead. Small superhero film. It can be done. And speaking of which, where's Luke Cage? And Iron Fist? These don't need to be huge spectacle films, you know. No reason to not make them.
-
I'm not too terribly excited. He's a good filmmaker, but no one I get super excited about when I hear he's on a new project. Great artist yes, and he's made some fun films and designed some classic films. But maaaaaan, I just can't muster up enough interest in his films based on his name alone. <p> Hopefully The Wolf Man will get be more excited about Cap'n America.
-
Damn Hollywood execs...if it's not a tentpole super hero movie, they don't want to make it.I would KILL for a Heroes For Hire movie. And does anybody else think Idris Elba would be a BADASS T'Challa?

Confirm Edward Norton for Avengers already......................
by crackerfarmboy
I'm psyched about all of these films, but I truly believe that Thor will be the sleeper hit here. It's Kenneth Branagh goddamnit!!!!!!!
-
with Tim Burton' Batman. Apart from big kick to the nuts that the genre took with Batman & Robin in 1997, the superhero genre has been going on strong for 20 years. <p> <p> Marvel didn't strike gold until 1998's Blade. That gave them the confidence to push the genre into overdrive as of 2000 with Bryan Singer's X-Men. The rest is history.<p> <p> If, apart from a blemish here & there, the comic movie film has been a success for 20 years.... It just AIN'T going anywhere. <p> <p> Mayans be damned. =)
-
Thor? If one of these movies bombs does that mean the whole house of card falls over it self for Avengers? O well, at least they stopped talking about Ant man.
-
I bet
-
.. many thanks for the pic of the Scott Pilgrim poster, coolest thing I've seen in ages. I fucking ADORE those books, probably my favourites since I first read Love and Rockets back in the 80's. And look at Knives Chau - she looks SO good :)
-
Doctor Strange, or Thunderbolts! Any of these would be great. Maybe Sam Raimi could direct Marvel Zombies after the next spiderman film.
-
CHUD.COM is reporting that Brian Blessed is Odin in Branagh's Thor Although it is cited as being an unreliable source... hey, they ran it nonetheless :)
-
Then I see no reason to even waste time with this movie.
-
that would be like casting an American to play Sherlock Holmes.
-
WORST. COMICBOOK. CHARACTER. EVER. OMFG. IT USED TO BORE THE SHIT OUT OF ME AS A LAD, AND MY GOD IT'S GOING TO BE EVEN WORSE NOW. DOES ANYONE HONESTY GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FUCKING THOR? OMFG. <P> HOW ONE CAN MAKE A FILM ABOUT A BIG WHITE ARYAN BUT STILL IGNORE DOCTOR STRANGE IS FUCKING BEYOND ME.
-
...LIKE ALL THE OTHER FAGGOT LEAD ROLES OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS.
-
... casting Mary Elizabeth Winstead was pure brilliance because she actually looks exactly like one of those big-eyed, pseudo-manga characters that apparently inhabit that book.
-
I can dig a dragon with no wings but a dragon without arms, man...that just ain't right. I think the dragon should have arms and he can just flap n' fly with those. "I just flew in from Los Angeles and boy are my arms..."
-
So don't blame me.
-
No RoboCop posters at the licensing show? Isn't that supposed to be coming out next year?
-
Which is why I'm not wasting time or money on THAT obvious bomb, either. >:P
-
Put me down for hoping the Avengers movie has nothing whatsoever to do with the terrible, character-ruining, Ultimates.
-
......1978. That's right, Donner's Superman the movie with Chris Reeve basically marked the point when Comicbook superheroes first become an iconic pop-culture reference with the convergence of the genre with the newly minted Box-Office movie blockbuster phenomenon ushered in by Star Wars the previous year. Superman the movie remains the iconic comic book superhero movie, even after all these years (any wonder Spiderman and Superman returns used it as a template), and although the craze waned a little with the sequels post-Superman II as the studios tried to milk the franchise, it kept getting re-ignited every 10 years or so since then with Burton's Batman (1989), Blade (1998) and the resurgence last year with Dark Knight and Iron Man. Each resurgence seems to be followed by a period of tapering off, marked by the release of putrid sequels (Supes 3-4, Non-Burton Batmans, the X-Men post-Singer, Spiderman 3, Blade 3, along with a whole host of third-tier Superhero who don't quite cut it, sprinkled in between - 1990's Flash and Punisher, Daredevil, Catwoman, Electra). <p> So, yeah, this comic book superhero craze has been going strong (with a few dips here and there) for a good 30 years now - as long as the existence of the Blockbuster, and as long as Nolan's next Batman, or Ironman 2 don't stink to high heaven, it should last long enough to get to 2012. <p> Oh, and Geeks have been ruling the world since Bill Gates decided to drop out of Harvard and Steve Jobs stayed in his parent's Garage tinkering with toys instead of moving out and getting his own apartment - and I don't see them stopping anytime soon as long as you're logging onto the internets to respond to this Talkback.

Yes, Superman is probably the template for comic book films, and achieves that difficult balance of both having a sense of humour without descending into camp. Burton's Batman was probably the first of the films to appreciate the complexity of Batman (plus Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne seemed like someone on the verge of cracking up!) Marvel themselves were embroiled for years in legal battles, which is why it took a long time for their films to come out. However, ironically it helped them as the level of CGI effects got good around that time. Also, thanks to Mystery Men in 1999 for taking the mick out of the Batman Forever style of comic book film. So good..."Lance Hunt wears glasses. Captain Amazing doesn't."
