LAND OF THE LOST - Alamo Screening with Director, Composer & MARTY KROFFT - and is your name on the list?

Published at:  May 31, 2009 5:49:14 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Alrighty - Sorted through the big pile of emails - and read through a TON of them. There were so many passionate Sid & Marty Krofft followers - and so many interesting answers regarding their favorite SID & MARTY KROFFT work - that it took a long time to narrow it down. A few people sent some YouTube links to some fairly incredible moments in these guys' career - and after the list - I'll include those for you to enjoy.

Now - let's say you DO NOT see your name in the below list - don't fret - there will probably be some cancellations and room left over from a couple of critic no-shows (as there's 40 seats allotted for that group) - so before you give up altogether - know that all seats that are not occupied by 6:30 at the latest will be released to those of you in the STAND BY line.

The rest of you - As I stated in the original post - there's A LOT going on pre-film. If you're on this list - get there at 5:30pm Tuesday @ the Alamo Drafthouse South! If you have your own yellow life vest, put it on, because you'll be inserted into an image for yourself to keep at the show! There will be studio provided refreshments, LAND OF THE LOST episodes on the big screen and goodies for all. And then there are our special guests... Brad Silberling, Michael Giacchino and Marty Krofft!

This looks to be an outstanding event and I'll look forward to seeing all of you there!

Didn't realize it was an essay contest

    by eddieblake

Harry, I didn't realize it was an essay contest. You didn;t say to elaborate on why you liked what you liked. If I had realized that, I could have given you a ten page thesis on my childhood being shaped by teh Kroffts. I sent my email in 5 minutes after you posted the aticle because I had been waiting for it since the Drag Me to Hell screening (where I was the only person to cheer at the announcement that the Kroffts would be there)...I am heartbroken since I thought for sure I would get in...

    Bob Foshko

    by hoser99

    Harry

This may already be common knowledge to you but while at UT taking the RTF classes in the early 90's I had Bob Foshko as an instructor. He actually is a co-creator with Sid and Marty on Land of the Lost. I'm pretty sure he is still based in Austin and has great stories about his days in working on shows in California.

    by the reluctant austinite

You guys know how much I love Sid & Marty Krofft! I wish I could be there with you. I miss Austin and all of you guys! Shout out to little Landis and (getting) big Simone! Have fun Gordon, Rick, Kim Jones and Kimberly Heim and Neil! Say hello to my adopted Austin family, Brian, Ben, Rebecca & Fitz, Harry & Patricia, Megan & Emily and all attending AICN crew. Here's hoping Lars and the guys at the Alamo dress up like Bigfoot and Wildboy. Hey, Landis and Simone, if H.R. Pufnstuf shows up, can you get me an autograph?

I recieved the dvd set last week and I love it. the acting is terrible, the effects are awesomely bad, and it was written by notable writers. I also love how Grumpy mugs for the camera at the end of the opening credits.

    by genpion

Because I got on the list, and this is going to be so much fun. Even if the film isn't good (based on the trailers alone it looks like it could go either way), I am excited to meet the people there! I'm a big fan of both the director and composer of this one.

    Land of the Lost

    by obiwan knievel

I'm disappointed that Land of the Lost is going to be a comedy. I'd much prefer to see a mature take on the Land of the Lost concept. I love the old TV show for it's sci-fi underpinnings and melodrama, not the goofiness that occasionally crept in.

If you're interested in Land of the Lost, you might want to visit my fan site with coverage of both versions of the TV series and the latest news on the upcoming movie.

I do it mainly as an ease thing. The Alamo's managers just take the list off the page. And that's how they check folks in.

    by genpion

Did you get my e-mails? My guests can't make it anymore becuase of work commitments, and I have a friend though that wants to go (and I kind of need him since I'm having car trouble this week to get down there). Please let me know if you can switch his name for one of my other guests. This is Neil Lumbard, in case you needed to know. I sent the e-mail with the contest headline.

    by genpion

Should I just call the movie theater? My other two guests, family members, can't go - they bailed on me for work commitments, and I need/want a friend to go along with me who's not on the list. I REALLY, REALLY want to go to this and was psyched that I got on the list but I'm not sure what to do about this.

I went to dinner with Marty once, in Silver Lake...

    by jammyjaybird

My then-girlfriend (who shall remain nameless, if I ever have a sandblaster at her tombstone) was friends with his publicist. Our group met for appetizers at his house, which was a pleasant, shady bungalow at the top of a long flight of steps somewhere in Silver Lake. Then we sped over to Mexico City for dinner (it's a restaurant, not the metropolis). He was very nice for someone who drives a white Rolls-Royce. He gave my girlfriend some good advice about being a director's assistant. Sad to say, I had no idea who he was for the entire evening, as his work predates me. But that was before Netflix. Now I know.

    Ferrell sucks

    by thegreatwhatzit

Ditto the trailers for this cash cow. It reminds me of MONSTER ISLAND, an '81 flick that embarrassed Peter Cushing and Terence Stamp (though they were cast in only cameos); big lizards, chimps with a better acting aptitude than the principal players and dino-turd comedy relief (though Cushing, as usual, was perfection). Ferrell's mugging makes ABBOTT AND COSTELLO IN THE FOREIGN LEGION comparatively look like Oscar Wilde.

And I am VERY glad I got to go. This was an awesome event! While the movie wasn't perfect, it was indeed a lot of fun! It was so great hearing Marty Krofft, Brad Silberling, and Michael Giachinno talk about working on the movie. And I really enjoyed meeting you Harry! I look forward to attending more of these events in the future.

Expectations were a bit lower walking into the film... just wasn't sure how the original TV series would translate. But the Studio did a great job with this one. Solidly entertaining all the way around.

    Harry, where's your review?!!!

    by stabby

And please be honest. I'm depending on your review to help me decide if I should go see it. I was a huge fan of LotL as a kid. But, its got a 5% now on Rotten Tomatoes. Only 1 out of 21 critics give it a fresh rating. I fear shittiness!!!
