As a writing software program, I just don't get it, it all seems a bit too, tedious...and importing your scripts into it, well, it hasn't been working for me any? As far as Final Draft, I don't know much about it other than what I have read, and I'm on a PC...so there is no help there, as they don't make a Vista friendly version? I just liked writing in the regular screenplay format, before the creation of all of these bogus screen writing software programs got in the way, it was a much better process then, just the artist...and his/her art. These software programs really stifle the creative process now. They don't seem to help it...one bit???

In my experience - a lot of the screenwriters I know use a simple word document with the correct tabs and what not for formatting.
Personally - the only one I've used is Final Draft - mainly because it's the format that Screenwriters I know and have worked with either used that or a basic writing format like Word - and I've been sent so many .fdr documents that I kinda need it to read people's work-in-process. At the end they all get turned into PDFs it seems.
That said, I like Final Draft. -
Are you mad! Oh you guys must be amateurs. Real writers pen a outline, character bio, and full rough draft before touching the software. You shouldn't spend more than a week actually typing. I remember it costing a crapload of money, but I impulse bought it with my gift money, because I impulsively wanted to write the bestest script in the universe.
I wrote for a few weeks, then moved onward to Nintendo again. I still have the software sitting here. :) -

Final Draft's the way to go. Unfortunately, pretty much any formatting sofware will be tedious. In many ways the stupid formatting process is counter-productive & gets in the way, especially if you're type who likes to write when you're inspired.
A little tip I can give you to brak up the tedium, is to get your ideas down as fast as you can. Just write the scenarios & any bits of dialogue that come into your head, then go back to the start, polish it up, fill in the dialogue & format it as you go along. -
the first problem is that you run Visa. :) Final Draft is the best screenwriting program imho... the interface is friendly... and over all... more versatile than Movie Magic.

It works fine on Visrt, what's the problem? It's a no brainer, write, press Enter. Formatting is a breeze. It IS pricey but can be had for better prices at Amazon or EBay. If you are in any way serious about script writing, it is the way to go, as the formatting is industry standard and foolproof.

One would think you could just type your script, and it would automatically set justifications and the format, therein, somehow? Word, just allows you to do your thing, and that is the fun of it. I'm a stream of consciousness kind of thinker, meaning, when I feel inspired, I lock in, and like to move fast with my writing, but the software programs, slow the process, horribly.
