Danny McBride looks to be a super-villain...'s assistant
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. On the surface this project, HENCH, based off of a graphic novel by Adam Beechen and Manny Bello, seems like familiar territory for Danny McBride, who has just been attached to the film version according to Michael Fleming at Variety.
EASTBOUND AND DOWN is probably my favorite thing to appear on television since LOST began. In that show McBride plays a baseball star who loses his mojo and has to return home and takes a job as a PE teacher.
In HENCH McBride will play a football star who suffers a career-ending injury and is forced out. He ends up taking a job as a henchman to a super villain.
McBride will be scripting alongside Shawn Harwell who also worked on EASTBOUND AND DOWN. If the humor is as fucked up as that show then I don't really give a shit about the small similarities in plot. I'm not at all familiar with the graphic novel, but I'd imagine the lead isn't going to be as hilariously ignorant as Kenny Powers. It sounds to me like the comedy should come from McBride's character's immersion into this bizarre new world.
In fact, reading up on the original story it seems to have a lot to say about the superhero/villain dynamic, showing that the superheroes might be closer to the supervillains than they may think.
McBride is shooting the amazing-sounding YOUR HIGHNESS with David Gordon Green and will come back for Season 2 of EASTBOUND AND DOWN before heading off for this one, so we have some time.

No..not remotely Judd Apatow type humor I think...it's far more situational than it is dialog based tied to some variation on 'fish out of water' like KU (10% funny) or 40yoV (100% funny and Apatow's best in my opinion), etc. McBride is more like Will Farrell only not as slapstick-silly or repetitive (and much much more funny imo)...in fact Farrell even does a hilarious turn in EB&D (the Ric Flair wrestling hair is just perfect..nut shots...hilarious!).If you don't like the guy that's all good but even still...if you can try...give East Bound & Down a couple viewings...only 30 minutes a piece...it's hilarious and still proof HBO rarely gets it wrong. They may not get it 100% kick ass right (I still like JfC even though it barely had a chance)...but they rarely if ever get this stuff wrong. Can't wait for season 2!

Did some pretty funny "Henchmen as regular guys with lives outside of henching" stuff, although I think most of it was cut. But hey, that's why we have DVD extras. And lets not forget The Venture Brothers take on henchmen.

met him at Comic Con. Nice guy who ended up getting the shaft for all the dumbass decisions made in the Batman books post Infinite Crisis. Poor guy had to defend Batgirl going bad, then had to figure out how to make her good again because Didio flipped flopped but woudn't admit it.

For the movies I've seen him in, he plays the same white trash wannabe. The guy has no range. Just another one note, overrated, over hype white guy. Hopefully, he'll be forgotten in a couple of years if not sooner. Dane Cook anyone?

He's got a face that was made to throw cinderblocks at. He along with Bill Hader's excruciating 18 hour long "freeform jazz comedy" bullshit or whatever the fuck that was supposed to be were the worst things about Pineapple Express. Not being remotely funny didn't help the movie either, but McBRide's not-really-tough-guy-but-kida-faggy-douchebag was about as funny as eating a bathtub filled with with herpes covered diarrhea. And any movie that end with the main cast literally retelling the entire movie in a dininer deserves to have it's ass kicked. "Rememember the time....?" YEAH, YOU STUPID FUCKFACE, I JUST SAW IT 15 MINUTES AGO, ASSHOLE!

I highly recommend "Empowered" - a well written and well drawn comic with probably more soft-core art.

Just like Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and every other one trick pony. He's had some funny parts, but when you play the same guy over and over in every movie, it gets old. For me the only time McBride's white trash douchebag worked was in Tropic Thunder.

As an avid comic reader for most of my young life and an avid consumer of all things superhero, "Invincible" is quite possibly one of the most original (even though purposely pulling from ample source material) looks at the dynamic between arch enemies with super-duper powers. It would make an excellent movie.

With all fairness, I've seen Eastbound and Down (hated it-same character he plays all the time, but with a baseball background), but I have yet to see Foot Fist. I'm sure that movie is overrated, but I'm waiting for it to hit Cable.
Saw, Tropic Thunder, Pineapple, and from the previews of land of The Lost, he's playing the same guy with the mullet with the torn off jean sleeves and wise crackin' attitude. Come on now, don't you think that's getting old? -
...I do not think he needs to start getting the lead in every movie he's in just because (IMO) he's a funny mutherfucker. He's a guy that needs to stick to supporting roles, with the occasional lead in something like Foot Fist. Hell, as much as I like him, I don't think every fucking movie Will Ferrell is in needs to be built as a showcase for him either. Just a thought. And yeah, Eastbound is fucking hilarious...

He's Danny McBride in everything: "I'M A HILLBILLY REDNECK!!!!" (mildly gangsta in Pineapple and Serve and Protect). I'm sick of this unfunny motherfucker popping up in every single movie and dragging a scene to a halt with his 9 billion improvs. Fuck the Eastbound and Down guy right in his ear.
