Greg Mottola Recruits Some Top-Shelf Talent For Pegg And Frost's PAUL!
Beaks here...
With the June start date for PAUL fast approaching, it's about time the geek road trip movie - starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (who also wrote the screenplay), and directed by Greg Mottola - started filling out its cast. Given the talent involved, it's hardly a surprise to learn that it's attracting some of the funniest funny-people in the business.
According to Variety's Michael Fleming, Seth Rogen has been cast as the voice of the alien discovered at Area 51 by Pegg and Frost (if this isn't entirely accurate, know that I'm working solely from Variety's plot summary because I don't want to read the script). Joining Rogen in as-yet-unspecified roles are Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch, Kristen Wiig and Big Bill Hader. The only way this gets better? They admit the whole alien thing is a ruse and announce they're remaking HOOPER.
Peter at Slashfilm says PAUL kicks off with Pegg and Frost leaving Comic Con (wonder if Mottola is nuts enough to shoot in San Diego this July) and incorporates references to STAR WARS, BACK TO THE FUTURE and ALIENS. I assume these are movies.
PAUL is a joint venture between Universal and Working Title.

Sweet, Was wondering when these two groups would merge to form o

i suck
-
angel gets its wings. I wish more Hollywood people would keep that i mind.
-
gets together in one movie it always scares me. Too many cooks in the kitchen and whatnot. Here's hoping they knock this outta the park though.
-
and it sounds like a fun idea...so I guess the inevitable hate in the talkback should start right....about...now!
-
right in it's stupid mouth!
-
Sounds good to me.
-
The third film in the The Flavours Cornetto trilogy damnit!
-
The only one left to post actual news about actual movies is Beaks? FUCKING BEAKS? It's like watching Fonzie aiming for that shark...
-
I must be cool as well!!!
-
Sometimes I dream of her.
Those dreams are like sweet, sweet sugercubes in an ocean of Fabio. -
Yep. =( But bring on Scott Pilgrim! FUCKK YEAH!!!
-
but everything else sounds good. It depends on how it's played I guess but the idea of Rogen's voice coming out of an alien seems like a SNL sketch not the casting for a whole movie, imo.
-
Luckily, nobody gives a flying fuck what flametrolls want to cry over, they just like to hate on everything. If Paul's anything like their previous movies, it'll be hilarious and a lot of fun.
-
What a fantastically stupid thing to think, though it's even more stupid to post.
-
Will Steven Speilberg show up for the voice cameo that's been written for him? With him just working with Nick and Simon on TINTIN hopefully he will.
-
but Seth Rogen is hellbound for his crimes against film. Seriously, did anyone see Pineapple Express? Bad improv does not a great actor make.
-
One of the most boring first names in the entire history of first names. If your name is Paul, you have to try twice as hard to get remembered by anyone that you're even alive.
-
...should be "Pegg's and Frost's."
-
This was basically the plot of the ALF TV movie. Why not just make an ALF feature film? Seth Rogen even kind of sounds like ALF. I mean... they're remaking FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, for Paul's sake....
-
forgive me but isn't that your job
-
Will have cameos from Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkingson, Steve Coogan and just about every actor working in British television today. To mildly amusing effect.
-
Why are there only 10 working actors in Hollywood? Seriously, movies have turned into small-town community theatre lately. New blood, please!
-
Re: Jane Lynch. :(
-
But I'm excited just the same.
-
anything Pegg and Frost do is a win in my book
-
Making a movie. There's funny people in it.That's all we know.

I think, technically this one should be billed as Frost & Pegg
by cameron1
as Frost is taking the lead role and Pegg the sidekick.
-
and he had to retract his post that was basically the same news.
-
Pegg and Frost can do NO wrong in my book........ until they let Rogen into the party.
-
Maybe she'll do a funny voice!
-
Is Marvel not making this anymore?
-
Pegg and Frost have screwed themselves by working in the US and using sub-par talent. This is really sad. For continued success, stick to your roots guys.
-
I'll bet her character is a kooky middle-aged woman that deadpans outrageous things, either involving sexual behavior, drugs, murder, or a combination of two.
-
...where's the Champions League Talkback? Barça, Barça etc...
-
MESSI! MESSI! MESSI!
-
This is such good news, the *only* thing I can get even remotely irritated about is the incessant need to always reference ComicCon in pop culture as the end-all to conventions and nerddom.
The East Coast has DragonCon, NY Comic Con, and Wizard World!
Just sayin--ya know--we have fun, too.

This film should be done a la Mad Mad World / Cannonball Run
by shut the fuck up donny
I know Rat Race tried to update the concept, but we need some truly talented people like Pegg/Frost to really make a sharp "free-for-all" film that really lets a lot of the comedic talent on both sides of the pond shine.
-
My only reservation is that with Rogen et al, some jackass studio exec will rewrite the movie so that the guest stars get more screen time. The only time that has ever worked was the original Caddyshack, and then only because it was all about Rodney.
-
get McConaughey as Hooper, and some up-and-coming pretty boy in the Jan Michael Vincent role. I should be a casting director.
-
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are pretty funny but not classic funny. Pegg is especially annoying whenever he's crammed into an American film as comic relief. He sucked in Star Trek. "I like this ship. It's exciting." Is that a joke? Seriously, is that supposed to be a joke?
-
with annoyance. I just find Seth Rogan annoying. I mean, sure, I won't have to look at his smug looking face when I watch this but his voice is THE most annoying part about him. Smug alien we're in for.
-
Yeah, I'm disappointed about the missing Wright since he's working on Pilgrim. Stifler's Mom needs to see Spaced, that show is what's got me hoping for this film.
-
that this two groups of actors, who delivered the funniest movies in the last few years would come together, is just fucking amazing! i have no other words! FUCKING AMAZING!!
-
And that's a fucking fact. I've seen everything he's done that doesn't involve those two and it fucking sucks. Give me a follow-up to Hott Fuzz and i'll be excited. Anything else generates a 'meh' until I've seen something to prove me wrong.
-
...because I was pretty disappointed in "Adventureland".
-
Kristen Wiig. She's fetching. That's all.
-
that's what you wanted someone to say to you after your sad little troll comment, isn't it? when you are as talented as Simon Pegg by all means come back, but in the mean time off you go on a cycle of eating the shit you have just shit out.
