Tuesday Brings The Last REAPER Ever!!
I am – Hercules!!
The CW had to make room for “Melrose Place,” “The Vampire Diaries” and new seasons of “Gossip Girl,” “90210” and “One Tree Hill,” so “Reaper” concludes its two-year run tonight.
The CW says of tonight’s installment, titled “Sam Takes On The Devil”:
Sam (Bret Harrison) and Andi (Missy Peregrym) try to find Tony (guest star Ken Marino) to help them translate the scroll Nina (Jenny Wade) brought back from Hell. Sam discovers that he can summon The Devil (Ray Wise) with a specific incantation that will trap him into a competition. Sam challenges The Devil to a game of quarters, but they play to a draw and The Devil refuses a rematch, so Andi offers her soul as collateral. Tyler Labine and Rick Gonzalez also star. Kevin Dowling directed the episode written by Michael Daley.
8 p.m. Tuesday. The CW.

It wasn't mind blowing or anything, but Reaper was watchable -- which is more than I can say for 90-some odd - % of everything else on TV today.
-
May 26, 2009 2:21:52 AM CDT
I just hope they had enough time to give us a real ending.
by derlanghaarige
Or at least one that works as real ending.
Damn, I don't want Reaper to come to an end. :'( -
it will get picked up by like comedy central or hbo or something??
-
The show was far from perfect. Some of the worst episodes were downright dull. A lot of the humor fell short. But Ray Wise was hilarious and some of the mythology and stories were pretty clever and a nice and different take on the "soul-selling" story. There are a lot of better shows on tv, but this show is far better than all the aforementioned CW shows, both current and future. I'll also miss the lovely Jenny Wade.
-
And i'm a fan of Chuck. Like DerLanghaarige, i only hope this thing gets wrapped up well. It's the least it deserves.
-
You have to wonder what sort of idiots work at the CW don't you? Couldn't they have cancelled Smallville instead, it's been terrible for years.
-
..it seemed to have lost it's way for the last while (due no doubt to the lack of faith showed by the network).
They were all over the map with dumb storylines that just didn't have the punch of the early stuff. -
One could always hope. I still think the twist will end up being Sam wins, and finds out the devil doesn't actually own his soul.
-
abc currently is working out a syndication deal to keep reaper going. it would pair reaper with the legend of the seeker as a 2 hour block sold to stations starting next season.
depends on how many stations want the package. enough opt in, reaper lives.
the cast is under contract if the show moves into syndication. the show's creators are not. and will be leaving to work on a fox series, regardless of what becomes of reaper. -
I wouldn't mind seeing it continue in syndication if they can do a half-decent job with a new showrunner. They shoot in Vancouver, and it doesn't look that expensive to produce, so I don't think the budget would be a big issue. Sock can go off and do his new Fox gig. Ray Wise is the one thing I would consider untouchable. If he's negatively affected, forget it.
-
Ben can pine for him, annoying Nina no end.
-
I love the Path of Steve, and the devil's tailor dying last week was top notch.
-
Demon mating season, The Path of Steve, stripper clowns...and, of course, the awesomeness that is Ray Wise. And instead of this you give us MELROSE PLACE and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES? Fuck you, CW...Fuck you right in the ear!
-
So they cancel the amazing Veronica Mars and somehow luck out and get a show half as good in Reaper (still amazing in its own right) and then they cancel that show too before it finds an audience to revive a 90's FOX show sans Heather Locklear... REALLY? The CW should make a show about how decisions get made at The CW. I've no doubt that the man pulling the strings would be considered of of the greatest television villains of all time. Idiots.
-
It may not have been the best, but it was possible the most feel-good show on TV these past few years. Please find a new home for Jenny Wade - she's up there in my three favorite women on TV. Finally, can we get a encore of the Halloween commercial - I know it's not seasonal, but it's so damned funny.
-
is fucking awesome. Not that I'm gonna actually buy it, but it is fucking awesome.
-
is one of the hottest chicks on TV....period. Even the lame 80's hair they have her in doesn't detract from the killer bod & great face. And I like her 'personality' (or is it demonality?)...there's a natural niceness/cuteness that shines thru. She will have a good career...mark my words.
-
The show is heavily rumored to be returning for a 3rd season in first run syndication.
-
I'm not sure what that says about me, but I really like Nina's hair.
-
Though I'd welcome it back & give it a try in syndication, the word is that Taylor Labine could/would escape his contract to be free for Fox's 'Sons of Phoenix'. So how many fans (me included) would be onboard for a barefoot Reaper (Sock-less...get it?) ?
-
It's varied a bit, but this is the look that sticks in my head...I call it "HellMullet" (mostly a helmet, with a mullet in back): http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1407027200/nm1023127
-
he's under contract. up to abc if they let him do the fox show he signed up for instead. sock might be on 2 shows, 1 shows, or no shows - if fox gets cold feet or kills the show pre-air.
-
Pilot episode he had telekinesis or something and then I think one episode in the 2nd season they explored it a little more, but that's about it. It's like they thought ok maybe he shouldn't have powers after the pilot, but then they come back to it, and now it's forgotten about again? Wha-?
-
What a waste of a good show. I'm not holding my breath for the syndication deal to happen. For TV today that would be too sensible. It really is a shame. Actually, though there is a lesson here, more shows like Reaper need to be produced and invested in syndication. Legend Of The Seeker is proof of that. Producers need to pour more of their bucks into syndicated series, that may prove to be the future of American television. Because let's face it, the Networks are blowing it.
-
Nina is part of the Minka Kelly pilot that the CW didn't pick up for Fall, but some stories imply that it's still possible for mid-season.
-
Im sure it will go where all great shows go these days. Comic books.
-
I'll never watch the CW again.
-
...because of Andi's breasteses.
Hope she dresses like Candice from Heroes tonight. -
Y'know this show is superior to "Chuck"? Because the characters actually talk like real people. When did Chuck ever call someone a dick?
-
Sam's powers were supposed to be tied into the soul he was supposed to catch (so any powers gained would be lost after he caught/returned the soul), but they seemed to have abandoned that.
As for Sock, I'm absolutely fine if the show goes on without him. Yes, he's sorta funny, but he rarely advances the core plot. At all. Ted advances the core plot more often than Sock does. -
fucking WONDERFUL chemistry among the cast. I started out as mildly enjoying this show each week, but it definitely grows on you, and it's got surprisingly great writing. But yeah, the chemistry between everyone and those little "improv-esque" moments are the best. The callback to Ben's straw invention last week was an example of the attention put into the writing.
-

Hm, didn't realize it was that "close" to a season 3...
by danielkurland
I'd be fine without Sock, but I'd definitely be concerned with the creators being gone. I know they've barely written any episodes, does anyone know how strong a creative force they were in the second season? Like, if they are gone, wouldn't it make sense to just appoint other writers on the show to be the new showrunners?
-
This is that lame show where the main character's parents offered their son's sould to the devil on his (the kid's) 18th birthday, right? The showed sucked ass and I'm surprised it didn't get cancelled after a few episodes.
-
Reaper was funny consistantly. Ray Wise as the devil was absolutely dead on funny every scene he was in. You had no doubt he could be the funnest guy to be around and also the sickest depraved prince of darkness out there. When they canceled Angel for Jack and Bobby I quit watching. Then Supernatural came along and kicked all kinds of ass. Fucking CW. You're like a hot girl with herpe's. Most of the time I can ignore you, with all your disease ridden ways, but there is one thing you have thats worth the risk. Fuck you.
-
are the only reasons I had to watch this network. It seems like every show on television is about doctors, cops or rich slutty white teens
-
Supernatural is a much better show, as is Chuck. I am surprised Reaper made it past the first season. I watch it and it's enjoyable. However it's simply a good show not an excellent show. Didn't deserve to be replaced by Melrose Place though, that's horrible.
-
And this was from a guy who watched Veronica Mars...
-
Melrose Place is back? Sigh, I guess I am going to be buying more videogames.
-

Sock might not be important for the plot, but without him...
by derlanghaarige
...the show would be less entertaining.
It would be still watchable (I think) but something important would be missing. -
seriously, one more season of smallville (if that), and you're irrelevant
-
I've liked this guy going back to Grounded For Life. But I got tired of him as the lead in this. Everyone else clicked. Wise was practically sublime, and Labine sold the comedy with every line. I just got tired of Harrison.
-
The show has varied this year, from poor to good. It tends to fall apart when they focus on Ben and Sock subplots. Anyone remember last year's Ben/green-card-marriage subplot? Uggh. And this year's Sock/Kristen subplot which dragged on forever. When they tie the subplot into the show (the Ben/Nina relationship), it works. Problem is, they seem obliged to give Sock subplots (last week's Maggie subplot was a demon-dating replay of last year's Sock-dates-a-succubus), when he's funnier lending himself to the other subplots (Ben's relation with Nina, Sam with Andi). Alan Townsend proved to be a personality-less plot device, and Armie Hammer (i.e., Billy Zane lite) didn't do much. But Tony, the Cult of Steve, Nina, Mr. Oliver, and the Devil all had good stuff going on. Not enough Gladys and her subplots this year. And they need stronger acting guest stars: someone like Stephen McHattie can redeem a weak plot, but they rarely get high-caliber actors like that. Even less likely it'll happen in synidcation.
-
Different and quirky and when it worked it was great. Like any show it has some weak episode but the overall premise and characters were cool. To bad its leaving. CW didn't have much going for it. Seems like they got rid of anything resembling quality this season with not on Reaper but the Game and Everybody Hates Chris. Both underrated shows.
As for Sam's powers they actually addressed it this season. He tried to use them when he and Andi were trapped in the town. He explained as sometimes he gets crazy devil powers when he is tracking a soul. But he has no control over them. -
FEAST and the sequels. She played a fun character well.
-
Because then it would be watchable the whole hour rather than just when he has no screen time. Sock ruined this show, and was so repulsive this season that I know he drove away viewers and made me actually question watching.
-
Wait a minute!!! Chuck is SUPPOSED to be funny? Now I get it.
-
someone clearly has a history of incest and was offended by Sock's main season 2 storyline... lol
he was/is fucking hilarious and steals every scene he's in. -
It wasn't that the incest subplot was disgusting (and she was a stepsister, so it wasn't incest anyway). Problem is it was just boring and went nowhere. What kind of writer says, "Yeah, let's have one of the main characters date a Japanese stepsister! It's comedy gold!" It didn't even really appeal to the character's strengths.

That Shark Attack Style scene is exactly what I was talking abou
by danielkurland
in regard to the chemistry and improv-style that works so well for them.
-
Damn The CW for canceling this excellent show. They should've paired it w/ "Smallville" on Fridays. I enjoyed the first season, but the second season made this show must-see viewing for me. I'll miss it.
-
If this doesn't get a third season, I'd say the expression "Jesus H. Gyp!" is rather appropriate.
-
So long you shit network. Best show you have. Now you can fuck off with your remakes and other bullshit.
-
Both sock and the creators will return to the show. The creators have said they will serve as consultants to the show and Sock will be available to film.
-
But when the Friday Death Slot ends up killing SMALLVILLE with Season 9 this network and I are fucking done professionally.
-
what a terrible fucking network, nothing good since Beauty and the Geek left
-
It had to be done that way. There would've been endless speculation that Steve was actually working for the Devil if there wasn't some 'proof' of his angelic status.
I still think it's a bet. And I hope it comes back. -
Dammitt!! Another great show bites the dust for freakin' reality t.v. Damn I hate reality shows, and 90210!!!!
-
quite anti-climactic
-
to read the translation just fine.

Yeah, I thought Steve did something for the Devil to be an angel
by disgruntled_chinaman
it seemed so convenient when he misread the incantation.
I think it has been picked up, or there are some plans for a DVD, why else would it be so open-ended? -
About the best thing on anything right now, Breaking Bad? Could someone please point in the right direction?
-
they didn't know they were going to be canceled.
-
When it came out there was Reaper/Chuck/Pushing Daisey's. While Reaper was the funniest, Pushing was the geeks favorite (because everyone wishes Tim Burton would stop sucking) but wasn't that great and Chuck wins! Chuck had the best plots and was all and all the funniest. It didn't get boring where Reaper and Pushing got boring and repetitive after the first half hour. Though Reaper did pick up these past couple episodes. Tonight's episode I thought was going to be the last, and they were going to make it so he could get out of his deal, but it was still a good episode.
-
Bring it back already!
-
You shall be missed.
-
.. cuz I only watched the first few eps, but those eps did absolutely nothing for me. I mean, I got where the jokes were, I just didn't find them funny. Did it get better after that? Is it worth picking up DVDs?
-
The show got better towards the end when tony and steve came on and they started a good story arc.I am picky when it comes to buying dvds but I would pick this up if it was at a really low price. Not a perfect show but had some good stuff in there.
-
Please help!I have to agree about the anticlimactic part. It's always a tough call for producers to decide how to write a season finale without knowing whether it will be the season finale or a series finale. But given that this was a CW show that barely got renewed for a 2nd season, with a limited order probably shot sometime last year, it probably would have behooved them to plan for some sort of closure if the show didn't continue.
-
The lead male and female characters - Sam & Andi- were the show's Achille's Heel. Sox and the Devil were its strengths.
-
Old Darth, you are talking through your fucking ass. The chemistry between those guys was the reason i tuned in - really fantastic fucking show. I have no reason to watch the CW now.
-
Have not been like this for a show being cancelled in a looooong time. FUCKING BASARDS
-
... even.
-
Was it to imply that Sam and Andi have not have sex? It was a very nice, touching scene, sure. But they're both like what, 25? Although we never saw it happen before, I always assumed they had slept together, because they're, you know, 25.
-
it would be interesting to see the heaven side of things. this is where joan of arcadia go cancelled - when it was set up to see the people working for the other side. at least supernatural made it through that barrier.
and sam and andy are about 21. sam was a slacker college dropout at the beginning of the show. i'm not even sure he started college.
RIP Burt Wysocki -
Reapers Syndication. I was totally pissed at the way the CW ended it. I had totally hoped Sam would beat the devil and the devil would have been like "aww kid shucks you beat me, its a pity you didn't win anything, like your father could really sign over your soul". That would have been the comedic gold ending... Syndication? Where?!
-
(I may have to change my screename) DanielKurland, I assumed they'd had sex. After all, didn't they share a room when they went away for the weekend? I don't remember any "will we or won't we" conversations.I liked drunk Andi - "I need help getting nuded for you".
-
I really hope the show gets this chance at syndication, it was/is such a good show. The second season seemed to lose it's way a little but I'm sure the CW short changing it is the reason for that. I'd really like to see a 3rd season just so it could go oout strong on a high point. CW really pulled the rug out from under fett of this show
As for Sock vs Sockless, I'd hate to see the character go because it does bring so much humor but they made the character such an asshole this season that despite his funniness he became more and more unlikable. If the show does get the chance to continue with Sock I hope they retool him or better yet untool him because a tool is what he bacame. -
if abc manages to pull off the Syndication deal, sock will be a part of season 3. he's under contract. only abc has the power to let him out of that contract.
as for the when and ifs, sometime during the next few weeks we should know if reaper is dead or alive. abc is pushing to have reaper back on the air in October if the syndication contract happens, it means abc can't wait much longer to work out their affiliate pickup deals. -
As far as Reaper goes the show was finding its way, building a cast of characters that was quirky and mostly interesting. This is another case of a show that has barely been on the equivalent of a season, and we all know the great ones take more than one season to jell.****I have mixed feelings about Sock. He is funny and somewhat integral but I get a bit tired of his constant shtick. Ben is more interesting because they have given him a rich background of family and a relationship with the demon. There's more for him to play off against. Plus I think that guy is an underrated actor.****As far as Bret Harrison goes I always liked him as a physically comedic actor back to his "Grounded for Life" days and one incredible guest star turn on the "O.C." as a practical joker. This role was kind of a stretch for him but I thought he was growing into it. If they would have had a full second season instead of just 13 episodes they would have had more time for him to explore his relationship with the devil as well as zombie Dad, but they didn't and I think that worked to his disadvantage. I do think the actress that plays Andi is dull.****I thought the ending was good in that if it does get picked up it could go in several directions. So I didn't mind.****As for Supernatural, I was one of those that tried to watch it in the first season, hated the monster of the week premise, dropped it, and then thanks to buzz on boards like these got hooked back in during the third season. I just finished watching the last four episodes of season four in a row and I have to admit was a bit let down. The episode where the angel left the host was very powerful, I thought, we got to see the sacrifice this man had made. But honestly, the last two episodes kind of dragged for me. There seemed to be excessive dialog like they had to fill time. Don't get me wrong, the show is entertaining and they don't flinch when it comes to the dark side (I liked the baby eating chef for example and that weird looking torturer guy was scary) and I'll be there for season five, but it was a bit of a let down. Oh, and they also do a good job of setting up good and evil without it being hokey.****One other thing, sometimes I feel Jensen Ackles just dominates the scenes with Jared Padelecki. I think he is a much better actor and sometimes that makes the scenes unbalanced. But that isn't that big a deal, I guess. The chick that played Ruby was pretty weak, though. Like most of you said.
-
i gotta say that I hope they find syndication...I really enjoyed watching this show, it had promise.
-
because it went on longer than it really should of. And Nina tied up like that on the bed stirred up so many penis fluids in my nether regions.
-
Nina tied up on the bed was fantastic. We need a poster of that.
For my ceiling. -
I rarely delete a season pass for a show, but Reaper is one of the few that finally earned that distinction. I really tried to like it, but two funny characters (Sock and the Devil) was not enough to sustain the rest of the show. All of the rest of the characters were shallow and insufferably bad. It was like Dead Like Me (superb show) hooked up with Chuck (decent show) and produced the ugly, half-retarded bastard child, "Reaper". Putting it out of its misery was the right move.
-
I never really got into this show. The premise was too contrived and it never really got past the shackles of its sitcom mentality. That said, if the Devil appeared to me in the form of Ray Wise, I would happily become an agent of evil and do my best to help him bring about the apocalypse and overthrow Heaven. What can I say? I've just never been a good Christian...
-
I really liked this show. It wasn't perfect, but I thought the concept was great. The acting was pretty good, especially Ray Wise. Hopefully another network will bring it back.
-
email them at spiketv@spiketv.com to tell the fuckers know we wanna see it. Yeah, I'm desperate....

…and have completely forgotten about grammar. My bad!
