THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH screened in England Tuesday night
Hey there everyone. Haven't scored a full fledged review or two on this one yet, but if you happened to be at the screening for THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, then come on with the opinions. We Bond fans are dying to hear yea or nay on it. Not that it'd keep us from going one way or another, but it'd be a gauge for the ol excitement meter. So... if you were in Reading, England... Fess up, what happened?
I'm afraid this isn't particularly exciting news. In fact you probably
already know and have a full review, but just in case..
Last night (Tuesday 3/8/99) there were test screenings of the new Bond film
held in Reading (England) at the Showcase cinema (owned by National
Amusements). I didn't get to go but several people in my office did. They
were told they were going to see a test screening of a film called Destiny
and only told it was Bond just before the film started. Apart from that I
have no information about the film except that the people who saw it liked
it. They said it had quite a lot of comedy (more than usual), mostly of the
'innuendo' type (something like 'Christmas comes but once a year..' making
reference to one of the new bond girls called Dr. Christmas).
I sent this mail just to make you aware that people out there have seen the
film; you no doubt have contacts who will be able to look into this
further. If I hear anything else before a full review appears I will let
you know, or I will try and get one of the people who actually saw it to
write a proper review for you.

by el duderino
Remember these gutbusting remarks? Probably not. Well, to some unfortunate souls, they would remember this from the Avengers, which to the majority of people thought sucked. "Christmas comes but once a year" is a little too close to these jokes if you ask me. I hope it isn't the same screenwriters doings.

Pierce Brosnan = cool hero. Michelle Yeoh = cool heroine. Jonathan Pryce = cool villain. So why did Tomorrow Never Dies suck so much? Well, let's just hope that the overall plot to TWINE is ten times better than a media mogul trying to take over the world. I think the guy who played Begby in Trainspotting can be a way cool villain too. Let's just hope they do it right. And Denise Richards ain't half bad either :)
-
I miss the charm and suaveness of Bond. The gambling, smooth talking Bond. Lately he's been just another dull action hero.
-
The original bond movies are good (original meaning anything up to timothy dalton), then tim stepped in and people didn't like him too much because they weren't used to seeing bond get the shit kicked out of him so much. Then came brosnan. Goldeneye was good, but I took one look at Tomorrow Never Dies and said "It's a good action movie, but it's NOT BOND." Try to picture Sean Connery in that movie instead of Pierce. You can't do it. Here's Pierce walking through a room with two guns wasting everybody, then there's Connery having a quiet, respectable dinner with his arch-villain. Is TWINE going to go back to the way things were? I hope so, cos If I need a pointless action movie, I don't want it to be anything with bond in it.
-
That "Christmas comes but once a year" joke is slightly ripped off from Jack Frost, the horror one not the feel good one. After the title character rapes a woman using his carrot-nose, he quips, "Christmas came a little early this year!" Anyway, it'd be hard to be beat the "You were always a cunning linguist, James" line from Tomorrow Never Dies or even "I feel a slight stiffness coming on" from On Her Majesties Secret Service. Ah, Bond.
-
a sad end to the century of bond. these are action movies, but they sure as hell ain't 007. all the money these films make and the producers won't pay john barry's price. for the last film of the century?and with all this bond political correctness. no smoking--only massive killing. come on. and dr christmas? jesus christ. yeah, michael apted is exactly the director for bond. the producers hire those they can run roughshod over. sigh.

Though I'm a long time fan of James Bond, it may be time to finally admit what no one wants said out loud: that the Bond Franchise is completely bankrupt and, much like the Star Trek Franchise, needs to be put out of its misery once and for all. Bond, as portrayed by Sean Connery at the series' zenith, is very much a character of the early sixties. This franchise was tired and corrupt by the time we hit the cartoon version of Bond as played by Roger Moore. Indeed, the whole series is formulaic, predictable and, for all its cutting-edge gadgetry, weirdly outdated. For the best espionage vehicle around, one need only tune in to USA's La Femme Nikita. With its nihilism, amorality and two of the creepiest characters on television (Eugene Glazer and Alberta Watson as Nikita's soul-dead bosses), the show is, in my humble opinion, the only spy series that successfully embodies the zeitgeist of the late 1990s.
It saddens me to say that Mr. Bond should be quietly euthanized
and his ashes scattered forever. There is simply no reason for another Bond film to embarass itself in the coming century. Death to James Bond! Death to franchises! -
Hey All.
Does anybody have any ideas as to might be doing the Opening song for TWINE. I have heard many rumors, and was wondering if it had been confirmed as to who was gonna be singing it
Thanks

Any person who curses the Bond franchise is an ignorant ASSHOLE!
I'll take Tomorrow Never Dies any day instead of all those so called spy flicks(with the exeption if Mission Impossible) any one that grew up with the character welcomes with open arms the new movies, sure none of them compares to a Goldfinger but it's the name that count, anyway im a gigantic and disturbed Star Wars fan and have seen the Phantom Menace too may times to admit that is not up there with the original trilogy, so what!!! bring me EPISODE 2-3-7-8-9, another Superman Movie, Indy 4, Batman 5, Rocky 6, Rambo 4 and T3, MI2, The Matrix 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-2000, and Fucking Groovy Austin SHOULD WE SHAG NOW OR SHOULD WE SHAG LATER Powers 3, anything that resembles what it used to be, and stops studios from making another Wild Wild West, Godzilla, Armaggedon, is im gonna see shit it may well have sentimental value. -
Last word from here in Baltimore, courtesy of 99.1 WHFS, was that Garbage is doing the theme song. We Americans have heard of Garbage, and they currently are one of the top touring acts. As for Metallica, they have submitted multiple songs for consideration on the soundtrack, but so far, there is no final word on who will be accepted.
-
I could be wrong, but I think it was on mtv's site a week or two ago that garbage would be doing the theme.
-
"Yes..yes, yes, Number one!" This Bond is going to suck....BIGTIME!
-
I hope TWINE is as good as Goldeneye was (and maybe spawn a just-as-kewl video game!). I haven't heard all that much about the plot, but with Brosnan still in there as Bond and the likes of Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones it already sounds great in my book! Can't wait to see if Brosnan sticks around for more Bond movies! He's one of the best, right under Connery! Well, I'm through with my Bond ramblings, Baron out!

I'd just like to say that I live in Reading, England, and don't know anyone who saw this, and indeed had something of an early night on tuesday.

What the hell is wrong with you people? You guys keep harping on how bad TND was and is not even giving a chance for the franchise to redeem it's self with TWINE. I must admit that TWINE was not up to the usual high standard we expect from a bond flick, but it was way better than most of the crap fest movies that are out there. The problem is people have unreasonable expectations when it comes to a new bond movie,(especially after the awsome Goldeneye) as was the case in SW:TPM. No idiot can expect a franchise that has been running for more than 30 years to keep coming up with perfect bond movies every 2 years. Remember, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1974), after that low-par bond the producers came up with the awsome THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.I believe TWINE will be one of the best in the series if not the best! (from what I have read and heard). I say this because TWINE has everthing going for it, A great cast, an awsome story, an experianced director and the awsome David Arnold. Plus, I hope P.Brosnan will stay on for at least 2 more, because he is the best bond after Connery. And if anybody saw the preview pleast post some info, us bond fans are eagerly waiting to hear from you (ignor the other f@#$%^$). Come Nov. 19 all you idiots will see that bond is forever!!!!!!-mario.
-
I always wanted to say that. Anyway, I have good feelings about TWINE. Since Brosnan took over as Bond the movies have gotten steadily better. I don't care what anyone says, Tommorow Never Dies was an awesome movie, the best Bond movie since The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. Yes, I even liked Roger Moore, how do like that? If this makes me a big fat loser, so be it. Now, I'm going to have a martini. Guess how I like it?
-
The real greatness of Bond has always been the chicks. And Denise Richards and her tight little package will be the best Bond girl of all time. Connery, Brosnan, Moore, Daulton. Best to worst. Out.
-
George Lazenby as James Bond. As much as we don't want to admit it. There have been some sorry ass Bond movies. I agree that we should give TWINE a chance. Plus, in the theme song's video, we might get a chance to see Denise Richards, Sophie Marceau, and Shirley Manson (of Garbage). Hot ass!
-
Has anyone heard the theme song, is it any good. Garbage can't seem to lose lately. Version 2.0 was awesome. I hope if there is another bond movie, Metallica will do the theme song. If you ever get to hear the concert they did with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, you'd know that they could do it. Some of the music was just amazing. just my two cents. Not sure how the movie will be. not a big denise richards fan, but i do like Robert Carlyle, so that may even it out.
-
Garbage rule and Shirley Manson is one hot, beautiful woman (I'm getting all hot under the collar just thinking about her singing the new Bond theme... phew!). I'm surprised that someone could suggest that no-one in the US has heard of them though... 3/4 of the band are American and the drummer (Butch Vig) produced Nirvana!
-
to me,this is quite simply the only site on the internet.Keep up the good work
-
Shirley Manson does have all the right credentials to do the bond theme. Her voice is sepremly seductive and should add a bit of spice during the credit sequence-that is of course if the song is up to scratch.
-
To all of those who are hoping that this movies will be as good as Goldeneye, that movie sucked too! Trust me, it really did. Maybe if they didn't call it James Bond it would be watchable in the same sense that "The Saint" was watchable. Or maybe they should have called it "Casino Royale" as it was nothing more than a parody of the James Bond motif. Goldeneye, the game, wasn't too bad. Maybe that's what everyone was talking about.
