Jodorowsky. Lynch. Zsigmond. Nolte. Manson. Argento. Kier. Fuck. Yes.
Beaks here...
It's been a while since we heard anything new on Alejandro Jodorowsky's KING SHOT, which would be the eighty-year-old surrealist master's first film since 1990's THE RAINBOW THIEF. To tell you the truth, I'd all but given up on this movie. I mean, who's going to finance a bug-fuck Jodorowski flick starring the random duo of Nick Nolte and Marilyn Manson in this economic climate?
Angels. That's who.
According to ScreenDaily, Laszlo Kantor of UJ Budapest FilmStudio is close to securing the $7.4 million required to get the "metaphysical spaghetti western" before cameras. And if that doesn't get you excited, consider this: he's now got the legendary Vilmos Zsigmond on board as a cinematographer. Also, the cast has expanded to include the non-normal likes of Asia Argento and Udo freakin' Kier!
The ScreenDaily story claims there are an "array of partners" helping to get this film off the ground (including David Lynch), which is the kind of thing that always gives me pause. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that more films fall apart at this stage than are made in a year. But if it all comes together soon, we could possibly have new films from Jodorowsky and Malick in 2010! And that would be mighty fine indeed.

good reason to clean the bong!
-
Where I Lynch in the whole article? Or am I stupid?
-
ironic
-
Why don't these angels put together a deal to publish these storyboards and screenplay?
-
I love Jodorowsky. My favorite will always be Holy Mountain but I'm looking forward to this new one. I'm not sure why you mentioned Lynch.
-
The Holy Mountain is the greatest movie ever made
-
More midgets and cripples on celluloid can only bring good things to this world. Beaksy is right, if this pans out right, 2010 will be a year to remember.
-
Jodorowsky is still around. Why is all the material written about his version of Dune over the last 25 years still semi-apocryphal? Why is it the same two bits of Moebius/Giger artwork released? Why doesn't someone (Harry, I'm looking at you) march over to Jodorowsky's house/agent's house, knock on the door, and beg to see all the Dune materials, and to hear all the Dune anecdotes from the guy himself? Come on! This is history! The guy's 80? Hurry up then AICN bounty hunters!
-
this could be seriously awesome... hope it pans out. just the phrase "spaghetti western" get me all sorts of crazy
-
till I read Marilyn Manson.
-
i met one of my teachers yesterday and we started talking about what i wanted to do for my master degree. I give him 7 names of directors i'd like to explore. among them, Jodorowski and Malick... i'm happy right now
-
In my haste to post the story, I forgot to add this. It's in there now.Calico Pete: I would gladly show up at Jodorowsky's house, recorder in hand, and take it all down for posterity.
-
I've been waiting for news on this for awhile. I'm surprised Beaks is acting like it's news that Zsigmond is on board as it's been known for awhile and he even said in March that the film would start shooting this summer. I'm surprised they haven't been able to get 7.4 mil together though. Thats an awfully low number for the scale of the film (or atleast what has been presented in the storyboards).
According to someone who works at Rue Morgue mag Asia is pregnant and can't shoot the film because of that so this article may be for naught anyway... -
Recently seen (and loved) El Topo and Holy Mountain, not so much Santa Sangre, the rest I haven't seen. Btw, thanks AICN for introducing me to this mofo.

guaranteed to be eurotrash, pure and simple.
-
I had a prof who was friendly with Jodorowsky at one time and said that Jodorowsky doesn't like to show the Dune stuff because he's still pissed he never got to do it, so you'll basically have to pry it from his cold, dead hands.
-
Please let this not be a hoax. Please tell me this is realPlease tell me that I'll finally be able to meet him so he can sign my “EL TOPO” script. Please let this happen. Please let this FUCKING HAPPEN…

-
..was incredible!! I just got El Topo from netflix. AHHHHH...I GOT AN ERECTION NOW...FUCK!!!! Boner seeds.
-
i think i might have came in my trousers....this could be the most awesome weird-ass movie of 2010. fingers are crossed...in anticipation i will go re-watch my Jodorowsky boxset again....
-
Wake me up when Lynch begins work on "Ronnie Rocket", or something other than his meditation, photography/music collaborations or interview bullshit.
-
Yah, uh, think of a better headline next time.
-
All of 'em.
-
so check that out as a Jodo-Dune substitute. Censored and uncensored editions exist so let the buyer beware. And Metabarons was a spinoff of "The Incal"(drawn by Moebius) which Besson ripped off in The Fifth Element.
-
Or were you just drunk?
-
I just came. My brain. My brain just came. Really hope this all actually happens...
-
At least one of his films. I'm sure its in the queue.
-
at the Salem Film Festival and goddamn - he was cool as hell.
-
Nolte and Manson sounds like quite the film duo. Manson was already in a movie with Asia where he molests her child, and Nolte's face molests all that view it.
-
Watch El Topo NOW

Moebius Redux doc. is on Aussie free-to-air Saturday!

Nice timing. SBS at 3:15 in the afternoon. It says it's a repeat, which means I fucking missed it the first time, WTF?
-
...don't you think?
-
please remove it before i barf a little in my mouth.
-
Something new made my brain see and my eyes think. ---All i want now is a new Lynch movie, please!
-
This is real news if it comes to fruition, but I dunno. The critical studies major with the THESIS makes me sad. Master degrees are superfluous when it comes to film degrees, but whatever. I guess he wants to be a prof.
-
Shame on AICN for mentioning him last.
-
Lynch makes things happen.
BTW, anybody here the one about how Orson Welles approached Steven Spielberg for money to make a movie late in his life, and Spielberg said "no", then spent millions of dollars to buy the Rosebud sled at an auction.
Steven Spielberg: Friend of Movies.
Or - Dave up, Steve down. -
This is truly really cool news. Finally, proper cool news about proper good filmmakers, like Jodoroski, instead of the perpectual blows jobs on Jay Jay Abrams that AICN has been so tireless. And the people involved in this movie are truly very interesting movie people. The director himself, Lynch as a producer, Nolte is always an interesting actor to see in a movie, and Marilyn Manson helping out one of his favorite filmmakers (he says El Topo is one of his fave movies... the dude has taste!).Can't wait for a new Jodoroski movie. Finally a truly interesting movie-to-be from a truly interesting filmmaker. About time!
-
Bale hear you on that, friend, Bale hear you.
-
Yet to see it confirmed but apparently (according to someone on the IMDB Boards anyway)she's had to pull out after falling pregnant.
-
...they should just cast porn-star Belladonna and teach her to do a Euro-trash accent.
-
like soy sauce on Harvest Crunch. Hell yeah.
-
There are documentaries about Jodorowsky where you see a lot of stuff from Dune and he also tells some interesting stories (especially about Dalí's part as the emperor of the galaxy).
Funny, that Lynch is involved, because i remember very vividly how Jodorowsky described seeing Lynch's Dune and being very afraid that it would be much better than everything he had ever thought of. "But the longer the movie ran the more relaxed i was. Because it was such shit!" Though i guess Lynch would agree... -
You can afford a little more than that? Make JJ Abrams a producer for crissake! He's producing my nephew's Bar Mitzvah this year!
-
I have been coming to this site for QUITE a few years now and I'll tell you what, that King Kong animation is the creepiest shit yet.
-
Ma ma...
-
Wow! I have no idea what you're talking about! But everyone is so happy, so I guess I should be, too...
-
I call him David. We hang out.
-
I know the real answer, but the funnier answer is "giving you a weather report and pasting roadkill on canvas". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
On some deep level, the MA MA thing gave me an existential fit of uncontrollable LOLS.
-
this site gets a boner discussing new work by jodorowsky AND malick? AND upcoming Harry Potter?
This I don't get. -
That's about all I have to say about that.
-
People are jazzed for this? Is this like getting excited for a train wreck? Surrealism usually 'escapes' me on film as it often becomes self indulegent more than actually making a statement of any sort.
Nolte and Manson in a spaghetti western produced by Lynch? This sounds like a pitch I'd see Ferrell and Riley doing a skit about on Funny or Die. -
'she's had to pull out after falling pregnant.'
The syntax of that comment strikes me funnier than this article... -
Geeks are of a variety. I'm not sure how many are of the 'caviar and pizza goes together' persuasion.
-
on his website also? Can't wait to serve the mac n' gristle n' cheese for my holiday weekend.
-
Beaks... what are you waiting for man? Go do it. If I can tag along, I'll buy our plane tickets. Though if we're to believe GhostDad, one of us will have to bring a shovel...
one_guy_from_andromeda... Do you remember which specific documentaries Jodorowsky discusses Dune in? -
...before asia argen to got pregnant. ha. no. i'm kidding. i could also give a shit. the parody you can now conjure in your mind will be more aesthetically resonant than the batshit egomania of el jod. albeit perhaps not as funny.
-
Jodorowsky is always fascinating in the extreme. I do recall the first time I heard of him - radical image in grad school - and they of course devoted most of the talk to the Dune film that never was. For my part, I kept wondering about the soundtrack, since Pink Floyd was tentatively signed to contribute that. Would've been extra trippy, I'm telling you.
-
Udo 'fucking' Kier?! That line was almost laughable.
-

Marilyn Manson is a reason to be excited about a film?
by fearfulsymmetry
I can't wait to never see this.
-
How insane would a Lynch/Jodorowsky/Nolte and Charles Manson project be?
-
brain fucking=cinema
-
It would be fantastic.
-
But the idea of the guy that made El Topo doing another movie with Nick Nolte (who is creepy as shit to me), Manson, and Asia Argento. Why not? At least it's not the same old Cg-heavy franchise fluff coming out right now. Let's hope it's just as bat-shit insane as the other movies he makes.
-
What a crock of shit that movie was.
-
Then go watch Wolverine or Jay Jay's Star Dreck, that kind of shallow ass artistic bankrupt idioticy will be closer to your liking, i'm sure.
-
Allow me...AssimovLives - FUCK OFF with your repetitive bullshit. Your agenda is tiresome.Have a great weekend, folks!
-
Did you not read my post, you rat bastard? Concerning the new Jodorowsky, I said, "Why not? At least it's not the SAME OLD CG-heavy fluff coming out right now." By that, I meant that with such a low budget, I'm sure Jodorowsky would be shooting it old-school, with very little computer effects, which was exciting to me.Then again, Inland Empire had hardly any of that, and still stank like the pretentious turd it was. I love Lynch. Blue Velvet is one of my favorites, and Twin Peaks is a TV classic, but Inland Empire was rank.I have yet to go see Wolverine OR Star Trek. I have said several times, on this site, that neither movie is what I wanna see this summer. You sir, are a horse's ass.
-
but i couldn't get through inland empire. the photography, intentional texture or no, just made me feel like i was watching a student film. fuck, david lynch needs celluloid, okay?
-
Thanks for the back-up, but I think the dunce's only problem is he just can't read.
-
you don't have your movie loving pubes yet. Suppressed for twenty fuckin years, you can get it at Netflix now you wusses. Your mind isn't even prepared for the first five minutes alone. Martyrs, Anti-Christ, Hostel II... None of them have anything on The Holy Mountain, and it's not even a horror or gory film. It's just a gaping psychic maw of hilarity and terrifyingly profane truth.
-
I love Jodorowsky, the good Harry Potter films, had fun for two hours watching Star Trek and had zero deep thoughts during it, laugh at fart jokes, love Del Toro, James Cameron, Bresson, Godard, Spider-Man comics, videogames, and good food and beautiful tits. It's called enjoying life.
-
Lynch's films are beautiful, paintings, and about as boring boring as watching them dry. Woody Allen has more ability to tell a story than Lynch has ever dreamed of.
-
THE RAINBOW THIEF WAS THE BIGGEST FUCKING PIECE OF OVERRATED SHIT EVER.
SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE KICKED CHRIS LEE IN THE BALLS FOR THAT ONE. O'TOOLE WAS ALREADY WELL OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND BY THAT POINT, BUT LEE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER.
-
SHAVE THAT FUCKING MUSTACHE OFF HER FURBY FACE? GOOD CHRIST.
MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!
MEEEEDDDIIIICC!!!!
RAZOR!! IMMEDIATELY!!!! -
.. after "falling pregnant".
-
and i'm sorry but i don't get it. why is it so fucking special? i had to shut it off and attempt to finish it another day. sorry but to me it sucked balls. big ones.
-
....AND HAS BEEN TRYING TO CRAWL UP HIS ARSE EVER SINCE.
EL TOPO
OMFG
KILL ME NOW. -
Okay, well -- I'll keep my eye on it. I'm sure it'll be an interesting 'something'.
-
can be found in this very talkback. It's all here. Cool news.
-
Jodorowsky is the man!

In case you are still reading this, i'd like to say to you that your PERSONAL aimed vituperations were really uncalled for. I did belittled, and i repeat, i did relittled your tastes and choices in regard to your opinion of Inland Empire, but i did not made any personal attack on your person. I do think there's a difference in that.Anyway, saying that, i do wish to appologise to you for any uncalled and hasty remarkes i made on you, wish were truly made too muhc in the spur of the moment and didn't take into account your say on other posts which, i admit, escaped my attention. My post towards you was only based on your specific post about Inland Empire. I didn't noticed any others you posted, so, i'm sorry for the harshness of my post. I hope you accept my appologises, which are made in the spirit of friendship and good will. Here's the peace pipe, friend. In no way i'm justifying myself, but i do want to at least explain that there's just too often that anybody who coments such negative opinions of David Lynhc movies in general and Inland Empire in particular, they mostly don't look like the brighst bulbs in the chandelier, and they attack such filmmakers and movies with the most mundane and dumb coments imaginable. One does gets burned up by suich people, and somebody else non-deserving goes in stride, like in your case. At the very least you seem to be a more well-knowledgable fella about the movies, but i didn't noticed that. I guess i let my lack of teether about the less bright movie geeks turn into a sort of bias which just made me pre-judge you without rhyme or reason. Again, i appologise to you for that. Teach me right not to read things a bit more careful before repy. And by the way, Inland Empire really is a pretty good movie.
-
Damn right he is.
