Jodorowsky. Lynch. Zsigmond. Nolte. Manson. Argento. Kier. Fuck. Yes.

Published at:  May 21, 2009 10:40:34 PM CDT

Beaks here...

It's been a while since we heard anything new on Alejandro Jodorowsky's KING SHOT, which would be the eighty-year-old surrealist master's first film since 1990's THE RAINBOW THIEF. To tell you the truth, I'd all but given up on this movie. I mean, who's going to finance a bug-fuck Jodorowski flick starring the random duo of Nick Nolte and Marilyn Manson in this economic climate?

Angels. That's who.

According to ScreenDaily, Laszlo Kantor of UJ Budapest FilmStudio is close to securing the $7.4 million required to get the "metaphysical spaghetti western" before cameras. And if that doesn't get you excited, consider this: he's now got the legendary Vilmos Zsigmond on board as a cinematographer. Also, the cast has expanded to include the non-normal likes of Asia Argento and Udo freakin' Kier!

The ScreenDaily story claims there are an "array of partners" helping to get this film off the ground (including David Lynch), which is the kind of thing that always gives me pause. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that more films fall apart at this stage than are made in a year. But if it all comes together soon, we could possibly have new films from Jodorowsky and Malick in 2010! And that would be mighty fine indeed.

Jodorowsky is still around. Why is all the material written about his version of Dune over the last 25 years still semi-apocryphal? Why is it the same two bits of Moebius/Giger artwork released? Why doesn't someone (Harry, I'm looking at you) march over to Jodorowsky's house/agent's house, knock on the door, and beg to see all the Dune materials, and to hear all the Dune anecdotes from the guy himself? Come on! This is history! The guy's 80? Hurry up then AICN bounty hunters!

I've been waiting for news on this for awhile. I'm surprised Beaks is acting like it's news that Zsigmond is on board as it's been known for awhile and he even said in March that the film would start shooting this summer. I'm surprised they haven't been able to get 7.4 mil together though. Thats an awfully low number for the scale of the film (or atleast what has been presented in the storyboards).

According to someone who works at Rue Morgue mag Asia is pregnant and can't shoot the film because of that so this article may be for naught anyway...

This is truly really cool news. Finally, proper cool news about proper good filmmakers, like Jodoroski, instead of the perpectual blows jobs on Jay Jay Abrams that AICN has been so tireless. And the people involved in this movie are truly very interesting movie people. The director himself, Lynch as a producer, Nolte is always an interesting actor to see in a movie, and Marilyn Manson helping out one of his favorite filmmakers (he says El Topo is one of his fave movies... the dude has taste!).Can't wait for a new Jodoroski movie. Finally a truly interesting movie-to-be from a truly interesting filmmaker. About time!

There are documentaries about Jodorowsky where you see a lot of stuff from Dune and he also tells some interesting stories (especially about Dalí's part as the emperor of the galaxy).
Funny, that Lynch is involved, because i remember very vividly how Jodorowsky described seeing Lynch's Dune and being very afraid that it would be much better than everything he had ever thought of. "But the longer the movie ran the more relaxed i was. Because it was such shit!" Though i guess Lynch would agree...

Jodorowsky is always fascinating in the extreme. I do recall the first time I heard of him - radical image in grad school - and they of course devoted most of the talk to the Dune film that never was. Did you not read my post, you rat bastard? Concerning the new Jodorowsky, I said, "Why not? At least it's not the SAME OLD CG-heavy fluff coming out right now." By that, I meant that with such a low budget, I'm sure Jodorowsky would be shooting it old-school, with very little computer effects, which was exciting to me.Then again, Inland Empire had hardly any of that, and still stank like the pretentious turd it was. I love Lynch. Blue Velvet is one of my favorites, and Twin Peaks is a TV classic, but Inland Empire was rank.I have yet to go see Wolverine OR Star Trek. In case you are still reading this, i'd like to say to you that your PERSONAL aimed vituperations were really uncalled for. I did belittled, and i repeat, i did relittled your tastes and choices in regard to your opinion of Inland Empire, but i did not made any personal attack on your person. I do think there's a difference in that.Anyway, saying that, i do wish to appologise to you for any uncalled and hasty remarkes i made on you, wish were truly made too muhc in the spur of the moment and didn't take into account your say on other posts which, i admit, escaped my attention. My post towards you was only based on your specific post about Inland Empire. I didn't noticed any others you posted, so, i'm sorry for the harshness of my post. I hope you accept my appologises, which are made in the spirit of friendship and good will. Here's the peace pipe, friend. In no way i'm justifying myself, but i do want to at least explain that there's just too often that anybody who coments such negative opinions of David Lynhc movies in general and Inland Empire in particular, they mostly don't look like the brighst bulbs in the chandelier, and they attack such filmmakers and movies with the most mundane and dumb coments imaginable. One does gets burned up by suich people, and somebody else non-deserving goes in stride, like in your case. At the very least you seem to be a more well-knowledgable fella about the movies, but i didn't noticed that. I guess i let my lack of teether about the less bright movie geeks turn into a sort of bias which just made me pre-judge you without rhyme or reason. Again, i appologise to you for that. Teach me right not to read things a bit more careful before repy. And by the way, Inland Empire really is a pretty good movie.
