NBC’s MEDIUM Moving To CBS??

Published at:  May 18, 2009 1:33:13 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

TV Week’s Joseph Adalian is reporting that negotiations between NBC and producer CBS Television Studios have broken down over the sixth-season renewal of Glenn Gordon Caron’s “Medium,” and that the psychic drama may be headed to sister network CBS.

CBS could move the show to Fridays, after CBS’ very similar psychic drama “The Ghost Whisperer.”

NBC announces its fall slate Tuesday; CBS announces Wednesday. But “Medium” is not likely to be mentioned at either presentation. As Adalian explains:

If this is CBS' plan, the network no doubt would prefer to announce the move Wednesday during its upfront presentation. However, NBC's rights to "Medium" expire at the end of the week. That could make it difficult for CBS to tout the arrival of a show to which it technically doesn't yet have the rights.

    Sister Network?

    by jack shepherd

Hey Herc, how is NBC a `sister network' to CBS? Please, allow me: It's not.

It seems like a good fit.

Plus they could cut it down to about 12 min if they dump all the filler scenes and just cut to the dream right before the waking gasp which is right before every commercial.

CBS Paramount Television owns the show NBC just airs it. It's kind of like Scrubs with ABC.

Damn right he is. I wish he had just gone away instead of pushing his unfunny schlock to an earlier time. Unfortunately since his demographic is easy to please baby boomers, he has to move to an early slot because they go to bed earlier and earlier.

    by prof. pop-cult

And so is Ghost Whisperer? Which one stars JL Hewitt? I honestly don't know the difference, without looking them up -- I suppose I'm not a member of the typical demographic for both shows.

Unfortunately since his demographic are retiring baby boomers which is the only group still with ready cash in this recession, he has to move to an early slot because they go to bed earlier and earlier.

    by chromedome

NBC hasn't got a damn thing worth watching, anyway. NBC probably begged Leno to kill 5 hours a week, since NBC wouldn't know a good scripted show if they had it (I cite Journeyman, and rest my case...)

The fact that CBS Paramount Television produces Medium doesn't make CBS and NBC sister networks. CBS and NBC would have to be owned by the same corporate entity to be sister networks.

i really do enjoy looking at Jennifer Love Hewitt though.

    by cotton mcknight

I don't know if this is the case now, but it used to be that she would become less and less dressed in every episode. By the end, she was wearing something that really showed off her boobies. Every dang episode was like that.

    by j2talk

seriously has NBC aired ANYTHING worth watching at 10pm??
hell friday and saturday have been dead air for a while, just by stopping the reruns on saturday night they'd have room for 3hrs of scripted programing- not that would...

    Medium and Ghost Whisperer

    by oisin5199

I'm sorry, but anyone who says that these two shows are alike have obviously watched neither show. They both talk to dead people - although on Medium, it's mostly through dreams. That's the only similarity. Medium is really a family drama disguised as a procedural. Or maybe it's the other way around. Despite all the craziness, ultimately the show is about trying to make a living and support a family, and Allison's drive to do what's right and seek justice for the murdered. I still say that Joe and Allison are one of the most realistic couples on television, especially when it comes to the children. They don't always get along, and it's not perfect. Things often don't end neatly, and it's a much darker show.
whereas Ghost Whisperer is more a chick fantasy show, where Melinda helps spirits 'cross over' - most of the time, there's no crime involved - it's ultimately a glorified romance novel with some occult elements thrown in, to make people feel better about a touchy-feely afterlife. Yeah, I watch the damn show, but it's escapist fantasy, and it has pretty much sucked in the last year. Probably won't stick with it.

    The bastards cancelled The Unit

    by geophyrd

You know, I can work me up a big ole case of hate for this. This season, American Idol pushed The Unit back by 8-10 minutes almost every single danged week which meant my DVR clipped it by that amount. The only way to watch it was on my IPOD and it was still the best show I couldn't watch on TV.

    Now its gone...dang nabbit
