NBC Gives CHUCK A Third Season!!
I am – Hercules!!
The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd reports that NBC's secret-agent comedy “Chuck,” now with kung-fu grip, will be back for a third season.
The series, co-created by “O.C.” mastermind Josh Schwartz, reportedly had to endure big budget cuts before NBC would grant the order. (Hopefully they’ll lay off some of the Buy More staff before Adam Baldwin.)
NBC announces its 2009-2010 schedule Tuesday.

Startled by the sudden exertion, they slowly ease themselves into their gamer chairs and pop open a Pepsi. I guess I supported this show without knowing it, cause I bought something at Subway during that time.
-
God help them if they lose Yvonne Strahovsky., for my wrath shall be upon them.
-
Congratulations. It's always good to see a tv show get renewed. Except Scrubs. I fail to see the point with that one.
-
Sweet.
-
I really like the show, and am glad to see it coming back, even if it is only a 13-episode order. In fact, I think the new trend for television shows should be 13-episode seasons as to keep the quality high and the filler low. And scnjedi, I completely agree with you about Scrubs. It ended in a satisfactory manner and had a fitting series finale, and now it continues? So bizarre. I get that they want to turn it into a comedy ER, with ever revolving doctors, but this just seems like too much.
-
Sweet! The rumored Friday slot will suck, but it will be good to have the show back regardless!
-
Doooooooooomed :(
-
Thank god Chuck is back for atleast one more season. As rarely as I watch tv, Chuck is one show i thoroughly enjoy. Alas, the budget cuts talk really has me worried.
And I am a huge scrubs fan and tho I would love it to go on eternally, I think its time to wrap it up and finalize the series (final ep of this season did a pretty decent job)... -
No justice.
-
Yeah, for shitty TV.
-
Again - cause I said it in the Finke TB. I guess dizzying economic times leads to steadier TV renewals, huh?
-
,,, this is a fun show with growing potential, and I couldn't agree more about the Buy More remarks. That part of the show is what drags it down. I guess it is suppose to be comic relief, but it is just embarrassing.
-

TSCC sucked! It is a perfect example of blown potential!
by citizen sane
That show had everything going for it until season 1 ep. 2, then it went to shit!!! Biggest disappoint EVER! The idiots behind that show should not be allowed to work in the entertainment industry again!
-
Can't they just change the title and drop Sarah Connor? The show would do gang busters if it was strictly about John and Cameron.
-
The way they left it, I NEED more. Chuck, Lost, Breaking Bad and The Pre-Apocalyptic Post-Apocalyptic Show are my reasons for living... Not literally, of course.
-
That ending was perfect. The second season kind of ruined it.
-
Now, how about picking up a Serenity TV movie, NBC? You can't do a series any longer since the actors are in other shows (that mostly have been renewed too)!
-
fine news.
-
Dominoes Pizza avoiding bankruptcy. There's much better pizza out there, but it beats the hell out of frozen.
-
I love Chuck but the problem that I fear that the show now has is the failure to suspend reality whenever Chuck goes all Neo like and kicks ass. It was so painfully obvious that was not Chuck laying the smack down on Fulcrum. I fear that this is gonna appear even episode of the 3rd season...
-
... that Chuck's gong-fu skills will continue beyond the first episode. I wouldn't be willing to wager on that myself.
-
As usual, the yanks mucked it up!
-
keep kung fu stuff. if you have to mess with it, make it not 100% reliable after couple of episodes, but do not go back to chuck as dead weight.
lose the buy more. it had its story told. it moved on. have morgan and co. drop in every couple of episodes as guest stars. have them be in trouble with mob/columbian drug cartel/KGB/whatever, and chuck has to help them. casey and sarah try to stop him at first, but end up helping him.
use captain awesome more now that he knows chuck's secret. have him go around trying to keep it away from his wife. maybe, sometime in the mid-season, have him do some spy stuff as well: the irony of ellie being the only one in the family not knowing, and trying to figure out what are all of them up to has potential.
make more stand alone episodes at the beginning of the season. we had a MAJOR gamechanger, let them run with the new status quo for a while (make episodes with similar set ups as those in season 1, just that now chuck can take good care of himself without any help from his handlers. thus making room for more casey's "chuck me" comments) before starting a new big story arc.
and finally, bring dean stockwell on board. QL reunion FTW! -
They cancel all the good shows, Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies, Firefly, and keep dead air like Scrubs meanwhile cutting back on shows like Chuck. Stop giving a million dollars to the Survivor winner and put it into good programming. All TV execs should be slapped. Fucking morons.
-
God, what an awful show. It was more syrupy than Desperate Housewives.
-
now, for a T:SCC renewal to complete the trifecta with Chuck and Dollhouse
-
keep jayne is what it was supposed to say...
-
You can thank - or blame - Fox for this. Truthfully, once Dollhouse was renewed, it was academic that Chuck would be renewed. Even if it simply didn't cut it, and if it were on any other network other than the train wreck that is NBC, it would've been cancelled. So they'll get their 13 episodes, and then be cancelled at the end of it as they get their heads handed to them by Ghost Whisperer.
-
They're execs. They're hired to make money. Survivor makes money, so they can afford to give the winner a million. Chuck doesn't make money, which means to come back they have to cut costs. Execs aren't hired to bring quality to TV. They're hired to bring money to stakeholders.
-
he knows kung fu.
-
there I said it
-
I don't really care that much, just wanted to say fuck Chuck.. Sounds funny, its a funny name, Fuck Chuck.. Kinda like mine..
-
Fox BETTER sign on Sarah Connor Chronicles if Chuck got signed on damn it!
Tomorrow!!! -
This has to be one of the first seasons when most of the shows I liked were renewed, Chuck, Castle, Dollhouse, etc. Amazing.
-
What the writers need to do is make his new found skills into a burden, activating only for perceived threats to Chuck, at times, almost insidiously, failing to activate when Chuck would like them to. That would be the most interesting angle.
-
I think more shows like Chuck should have a 13-episode format. Less filler, more filling!
-
And save up money for the 'My Bodyguard' reboot.
-
There are no original ideas left in the Southland, so I'm putting the over/under on that reimagining in 2 years, tops. :)
-
Seriously I have a thing for women with gaps in their teeth, Condi, Sarah such a turn on.
And now for special Chuck Quotes:
Jeff: Does it shock you that 80% of my encounters with women have been completely without their knowledge?
Chuck: Honestly, I'm more surprised by the other 20%
Buy More Crew:
Emmett: Friends... (giggles) I wish people in our line of work could afford friends. That's just one of the sacrifices of upper management!
(He giggles and spins in his chair)
Morgan: Yeah well, Big Mike is my friend, and I never would have betrayed him if you hadn't tricked me.
Emmett: Really? Do all your friends give your mother urinary tract infections? Listen, Grimes. I am offering you a cup of the corporate ladder. Now, I need a new assistant manager. (He leans in) Will you be my "ass man"? -
NBC has a new president. She did not want to keep Chuck, but Chuck does make money. It makes a lot of money for Subway. So to make a sponsor happy. She had to keep a show that she did not want to keep, and she will probably put it on Friday. Which guarantees it will die a slow death. Fucking NBC. Fuck them. Fuck Heroes, and fuck Southland.

The first is that they will not even make it through the 13 episodes or if they do this will be the last season.Oh, Pushing Daisies was a piece of shit.

It's like the studios are going into "geek defense" mode.
by amy chasing
They're trying to shut us up or something. Think about it... with Chuck, Better Off Ted, Castle, Dollhouse, Fringe, hopefully Supernatural, and even Lie To Me and Scrubs coming back, all our cries that the studios are run by intellectually disabled gerbils are undermined! How dare they renew shows we like! Don't they know this goes against the whole geek-audience/studio-bureaucracy relationship?!
To quote Admiral Ackbar: "It's a trap!"... they must be trying to lull us into a false sense of security and then when we least expect it, BLAM!, it'll be Big Brother, ____ Idol, ____ Got Talent, Survivor, Hell's Kitchen, Biggest Loser and Fox News on all channels 24/7, and all speculative fiction shows will be pushed onto the graveyard timeslot and lose all their funding... And all be run by Tim fucking Kring.
It's the only possible answer. -

Hope that's coming back too.

Screw NBC. They deserve to be in last PLACE!
-
burn notice returns june 4th. there was never doubt of it coming back...
-
It's actually a top 5 cable tv show. The lead guy just got a pay raise. There are a bunch of seasons already guaranteed. Oh yeah, it'll be back.
-
to be picked up by other studios/networks/something and there's nothing left to complain about.
End of an era guys. End of an era. -
It's like half a season.
-
You're being silly. Of course there will be fiction shows. Doctor shows and lawyer shows! Duh!

I DO NOT CARE!
-
In the first episode, Chuck will step in to help Sarah and Chuck, and find that his kung fu skills are gone. Sarah and Chuck end up rescuing him. Soon we find that the new Intersect gives him skills temporarily. He'll have no idea what they are or when they will manifest themselves.
-
my title says it all...I'm shocked. Maybe the networks will invest in tv shows so that we might have something to watch...

Congrats to Chuck's cast and crew and lets see how they get creative on a lower budget :)
-
I'm glad they renewed CHUCK, but I can see going through this " will they, won't they" shit all over again next season, and it's getting old. Wrap the series up before NBC pulls this crap again. Limited TV shows are wave of the future. LOST is a good example.
-
Chuck was my favorite show this season. Budget cuts have me worried, but hopefully they can keep the quality coming.
-
It's the best show on TV you redneck pig fucker. Can't say the same for LOST...
-
Michael Ausiello is Tweeting his ass off right now.
-
And who from the cast will be pink slipped?
-
So that's half the cast taken off the budget right there!
-
Seriously.

sorry
-
...but I was expecting EVERY show I like to go away, so keeping 3 out of 6 of them (Dollhouse, Chuck, Castle) is better than it might have been.
-
It's not horrible but it's not even that good except for the hot girl and Adam Baldwin.
-
whodathunkit?!?

Here are some videos for you to check out for the show: BADASS Adam Baldwin http://tinyurl.com/pjxywr HOT AND KICK ASS Yvonne Strahovski http://tinyurl.com/o64ek4 GENERAL STORY http://tinyurl.com/oc8sjd and the LOVE STORY http://tinyurl.com/qs4j7k
-
Now just to make sure that if NBC decides to can CHUCK after all before the season's out, that the creators get told early enough to write a decent series ending. Something akin to the ALIAS finale would be nice, without the mythology let-down.
-
no probably not me, but Jacknancerenge and chromedome and that other guy

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA
-
CUT BIG MIKE, KEEP TONY HALE.
-
I guess Fox is the alias for Skynet.
-
the risible Dollhouse with its poorer ratings, and no big-screen movie coming up.
Makes perfect sense, doesn't it? -
Because FOX will surely cancel it after 13 episodes. They just gave Chuck the new intersect, but won't have the budget to really exploit that in new storylines.
So it's not like the show will improve drastically and get a large increase in ratings.
Fox don't seem to understand that you need to spend money, to make money. -
Southland is the new president's show. The same goes with Leno. This is why Chuck only gets 13 fucking episodes. Seriously, I would walk instead of do 13. This isnt fucking cable. This is broadcast bitches! Nevertheless, Chuck is as good as dead. No need to watch it this season. It will not be coming back. Thanks for nothing NBC.
-
that the writers have so far shown that they know what they have. So unless they all get taken over by body-snatchers, I'm relatively confident they'll be able to script a decent end to the show, even with the recent character changes. As long as they go into season 3 with the same instincts and enthusiasm as they did with season 2, it'll be cool.
-
13 > 0And WTF are you talking about V'S? You must have thought this was the Dollhouse TB. Chuck airs on NBC and is produced by Warner Bros. Nothing to do with Fox.
-
Sorry, I was responding to several posts above which mentioned T:SCC, that's all.
-
However, the budget cut has me worried... I mean, what could they cut? It's already like two shoestrings.
-
Unfortunately it won't be on Mondays anymore.
-
but worried about the budget cuts as well. I actually liked the Buy More plots, and would hate to see it go.
With the way NBC has been holding Chuck ransom, I have a feeling it will even have a harder battle trying to get a 4th season. Maybe they should plan the major arc for season 3 to be the series finale. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the show continue, but I don't want to see them constantly having to worry about if it is the season or series finale every year. I'd like to see Chuck go out on a high note. -
At least with Reaper going we'll still have one show about a disaffected 25-30 person who hates his dead end job and prospectless life (although the show has been moving away from that a bit which is a shame).
-
Temporarily getting rid of Captain Awesome. I say temporarily because this show probably needs to become a hit to survive and if it does become a hit then I'm sure the budget will increase.
-
another season of spoonfed, shit-tv.
hurrah! bring on more knight rider!
you firefly fanboys ever think that if the show was cancelled adam baldwin might end up on a way more awesome show?
didn't think so. -
then you won't have to worry about budget cuts. Angel's season 5 was cut good and it was one of the best.
-
Great decision for this show. Now if they would only show more of the oriental chick.......

-
I'm not a big fan of the budget cuts, or the expected timeslot, but more Chuck is better than no Chuck.
I can't help but wonder if moving the show to Friday is going to have much of an effect, since the show gets such a major boost from time-shifting (Hulu, TiVo, etc.) viewers? -
You should too.
-
If Mr Roboto is their swan song, so be it. I will miss "Sam and the lesbian"More Chuck is worth it.
-
You do know that Chuck is on NBC right? Maybe you were just being sarcastic, I'm kinda new to this whole talkback thing. And about Adam Baldwin, you fire him and it becomes a whole new (and less interesting) show. Big Mike is gone. I hope Jeffster lives though. Best 'Mr. Roboto' cover ever.
-
...is the main reason I wanted "Chuck" renewed. BTW, Herc, have you gotten around to watching the show yet? Whaddaya think?
-
If it had been on HBO or Showtime it might have had a decent shot at not sucking, but being relegated to network television there is absolutely no way anyone could have possibly prevented it from being a steaming pile of shit. As it happens, it actually WAS a steaming pile of shit. Thank Science we don't have it wasting precious airtime any more.
-
Chuck is one of the few shows my entire family will sit down to watch together. Plus Morgan, Lester and Jeff are hysterical. I love the Buy More crew.
-
It's ratings were not that much lower than HEROES'. If NBC can keep renewing that POS then they can renew something actually worth watching.
-
Than I would probably watch shit on their network.
-
well they said nbc has the option for an addtional 9 episodes. what they should do is cancel that shitty parks and recreation. Its the Office minus anything funny
-
...worry me. I'd guess that with those, we're looking at less location filming and more pre-built set work, which would translate as more Buy More and Chez Chuck action, and less spy-related derring do. Now I quite enjoy the Buy More stuff (only seen Season 1 here though), but I fear that if the balance slips too far that way, the ratings will drop and the Chuck-haters at the network will get the excuse they want.
Ah well, at least I've got a couple more seasons to look forward to- here's hoping they at least get enough warning to wrap things up before the drophammer hits home. -
Chris Fedak
-
That's good news. Can't wait to tell my little brother (Big Brothers, Big Sisters). We both love to watch Chuck and always talk about the most recent episode when we hang out. That would have seriously sucked had they cancelled it.
Side note: I think Chris Kattan would be brilliant in a cameo role this next season.... -
Love the show. Just learned my wife is pregnant. Here's the connection. Our top baby names are Charles for a boy and Eleanor for a girl. Not necessarily trying to pay tribute to the show. But we're such big fans, it must have seeped into our subconsciousness.
-
No problem. My fault for not looking at the greater context. So with the budget cuts, I see the Buy More crew pretty much disappearing, if not cut to the bone. Ellie and Awesome were already part-timers this year. I do hope they can keep the string of guest stars, which often made it a little more fun.
-
Easily done. The Flat format in talkbacks makes it hard to follow a logical discussion, especially if there's a few days gap between posts.
That said, I think we'll be stuck in Buy More for longer, as a cut budget implies less money to spend on high tech gadgets, spy cameras, stunts, etc... All the stuff that would make Neo-Chuck cool to watch.
Probably no Scott Bakula either. The dude is probably expensive as hell to hire.
