Ferrell isn’t the only former cast member returning tonight. (Hint: former Ferrell sketchmates Cheri Oteri and Rachel Dratch are among those reportedly NOT hanging around “30 Rock” at the moment.)
Expect an old “Update” anchor and … others.

to say I am looking forward to tonight
-
It's literally been years since I've watched an episode of SNL. Reason being-Ferrell left and there wasn't any reason to tune in. Huh. Maybe I'll watch, just maybe.
The trailers for Land of the Lost make me laugh, every time. -
Will Ferell is rarely at his game as well as he is on the stage at Saturday Night Live. I hope for sketches to include the lovers, the high school singers, and of course, Jeopardy.
-
why they've kept Darrell Hammond on the cast up until this point, they were waiting for a Celebrity Jeopardy opportunity.
-
Perhaps the Luvahs might make an appearence?
-
If there is a god- there will be a Bill Brasky Skit tonight
-
Holy crap!
-
Dratch is not in the building. I just stuck the sketch up there because it makes me laugh.
-
Shu bop shu bop shu bop Thong song.
-
I really hope she's going to make an appearance tonight. Was just recently thinking about her and wondering what the EFF happened to her? She was a cute little minx, and I still use "simmahdahnna" to this day.
-
is a sonofabitch....he showers in grain alcohol and feeds his babies shrimp scampi
-
But if anyone can do it, Will Ferrell can.
-
but he's gonna hafta bring the funny.
-
I'll take anal bum cover for $7000
-
He still does some great work, but seems out of place in the current cast.

NORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by steve_guttenbergs_dick_icecream
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Norm's probably the easiest SNL castmember to imitate next to Sandler and Farley.
-
I dig 'em.
-
I can smell it.
-
Cuz I smell a now year old lame Cheney-Bush sketch...
Admittedly, NOT a big Will Ferrell fan. -
I agree on Moynihan and Watkins... I actually enjoy most of the non-Kenan cast. Adding a guy who might be able to do a decent Obama impression would be important, if, you know, they ever decide to write an Obama parody.
-
Why are they replaying an old, fake commercial?
Okay, this isn't going to be as special as I thought. -
So... is this an old commercial? Or did they get the old guys to do this commercial?
-
Oh, okay, I guess. Heh.
-
is SOOOO good at making herself unattractive.
Ghoulish, even.
-
it was probably an ad that was made a while back that wound up getting cut from the main show. parnell, dratch, rudolph, sanz and mustache tracy morgan...definitely old.
i loved it -
I would guess it's an old commercial they didn't use before. Rachel Dratch looked really young. And Tracy Morgan was quite a bit skinnier too.
-
But it only makes her sexier to me
-
Will make or break this episode.
-
...that "picking up my son" bit in the Dance Movie ads, gets a chuckle out of me every time.
-
It's on at least one of the best of DVD's.
-
It's too bad MadTV was cancelled. I'm beginning to think she would have been a much better fit on there as a regular cast member.
-
The Real Tom Hanks!
-
Tom Hanks... I really, REALLY wish he would have hosted this week.
-
A Trebek's mother joke!
-
I miss the Celebrity Jeopardy skits!
-
I always enjoyed Norm's Burt.
-
I forgot how funny Tom Hanks could be.
-
Has better effects than any Land of the Lost trailers did.
-
Chuck's pretty snotty on air most of the time.
-
Awesome! I hate/love how sports announcers have to peddle the latest shit their networks are trying to shove down our throats.
-
funny!
-
not funny
-
When NBC is pimping Jay fucking Leno's weeklong snore fest on their NFL Sunday Night games.
-
I prefer the judge/supermodel show.
-
I agree. I've always liked Green Day and I think this is their best effort yet. And I really liked American Idiot too. Just rock solid, listenable, pop punk.
-
Just like American Idiot... which I guess is... ok
-
I remember during the NFL playoffs, they were doing that for 24, and one of Fox's announcers was all like "Man, did you see Jack torture that guy last week? IT WAS AWESOME!" It wasn't Buck and Mr.Concussion though.
-
They should play 21st Century Breakdown for their second song.
-
was that real? the list of side-effects that went on forever actually made me question if that was a real commercial or not.
-
I would guess that's going to be the second single...although it's a little long.
-
Guess her new show ain't doing so well.
-
AMY back from the park
-
Like it's something that deserves big fanfare or something...
-
the crowd response to her jokes tells you that they are slowly remembering how much worse WU was until Seth got to do it solo.
-
...HD is really, REALLY kind to her. Really.
-
Does not look at her most... attractive tonight...
Hard to believe that both Amy and Seth can blow the President at the same time. -
She looks great.
-
"Jon + 8 one weekend a month"?
HEY! Harry Carey! -
The Ghost of Harry Carey!
-
Rollin' out all of the old skits.
-
Must look better in HD than SD...
-
He was the best.
-
...blah, blah, blah, CRACK. WHORE."
-
What? Whaaaat?
-
I just found out she's my age. Perfect!
-
Will, why did you ever leave?
-
Season 26, Episode 11, which aired February 11, 2001. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072562/episodes
-
Rather than use Will Ferrall and whatever draw he had to show off the current cast, we bring back Amy, Norm and Maya...
I had low expectations for this episode, and it hasn't even met that. -
in a funny voice. Hilarity supposedly ensues.
-
Should have happened. Will it happen?!?
-
I wasn't even born then!
-
....or something special at the end, because this segment is like eight minutes early.
-
He's singing it differently. Not even trying to hit the high notes.
-
than Billy Joel
-
cheap shot. Let's see what Billy Joe is doing in another 15-20 years.
-
Has sandburg even shown up?
-
No Sandburg... don't recall seeing Forte either, and only Sudekis for one sketch.
-
How can you forget his He-man haircut in the funeral sketch?
-
As I typed it I remembered it... for some reason I blanked on that one... but that's the only one I could think of.
-
And Samberg wasn't on tonight either. ;)
-
You were right about... uh... a musical number... to end the show...
Sigh. -
Cause everyone's there.
-
Reminds me of somethign we'd have seen on Studio 60... only not as funny.
-
sorry guys this was the only way we could get all of you in this week...see ya next year!
-
...why?
-
And Paul Rudd? WTF?
-
what the fuck???
-
SNL at last!
-
Guess I will be making a trip to the bathroom after the show.
-
OK, that's kind of funny.
-
Paul Rudd...Elizabeth Moss!
-
That being said, Anne Hathaway looked good...
Elisabeth Moss reminds me that Jon Hamm officially had the 2nd best episode of SNL this season. -
still...what the fuck?
-
Seriously. Brian Fellows and Park Ranger Rick Marshall. It writes itself.
-
I think he was on the last episode of MAD TV tonight too
-
Awesome because Green Day plays Stand by Me during King for a Day/Shout in their live shows... they should have played that.
-
May 16, 2009 11:58:39 PM CDT
Definitely an ironic night for Artie Lange to show up.
by flim springfield
-
Remember. If it looks like ham, don't wipe your ass with it.
-
Was that Darrell Hammond's last show?
-
looks like that's the end of Darrell, pretty long run!
-
He was on more tonight than all year combined.... except for the McCain stuff. he only got that because he looks like McCain.
-
He ranks up there with the great hosts - Martin, Hanks, Walken, Timberlake. Him being in the show only serves to remind me how much I miss him in comedies.
-
Mainly for the Jeopardy skit and all the crazy cameos.
-
At least "Catch These Men" was less awkward a set-up than "An Album Cover".
-

green day is so fuckin awesome
by supercowbell4therequestformorecowbell
dookie and american idiot...classics. new album is good to...more of a mix of classical rock with the fast paced green day at time. good album though.
-
They could have done the Welk sisters sketch with the original "sisters" since Hathaway and Poehler were there. Probably have come off better than with the newbz.
-
I sorta remember reading on TV Guide's site a week or two ago that Darrell Hammond will still be on next season. IIRC, it was in reference to the 6 primetime SNL Thursday shows that are being produced.
-
Sounds about stupid enough to actually be a Jeopardy category though. Really. Some of their categories must be named by retarded lemurs with Speak & Spells.
-
Peggy Olson, or Jed Bartlet daughter, is married to Fred Armisen. Someone told me that after the show, that explains why she showed up atleast.
-
I don't know, but the way they put Darrell Hammond in the front and were comforting him, when they were all saying goodbye. Made it seem like this would be his last episode.
-
because they all used to be on SNL together, and Will and Norm likely hadn't seem Hammond for a spell.
-

Granted, I've always been a huge fan...

An anagram for how Lorne only hires young boys these days.
-
Go and make me a fucking sandwich, bitches. I'm starving.
-
How dare you SWEAR that Oteri will appear when in fact she did not? May you be visited by the "Drag Me to Hell" Gypsy crone this eve.
-
Seems his MadTV skit was on early and there he was popping up on SNL for the last sketch and goodbye!
-
if you and afew others in this TB had any reading comprehension skills, you might have noticed the part where it says "Oteri and Dratch HAVE NOT been seen hangning around 30 rock.".......i bet you're really wishing you this place had an edit function right about now.
-
I'll be putting them on disc for friends,
-
Most of their best appearances are in the opening credits. Pretty sad when that is their best exposure.
-
Fred Armisen
I go back and forth on this guy. He's done some absolutely amazing impressions (Prince) and is a very unique performer at times with original ideas. Then we get the absolute worst Obama impression in recorded history, like he's not even trying. And did Lawrence Welk have an accent? I don't think so. Worth keeping, but needs to step it up or step DOWN from the Obama post.
Will Forte
Absolute original. Really brings some great ideas to the show, but sadly, they keep milking the teat of his worst stuff (MacGruber is real, real haggard). But he's been responsible for my biggest SNL laughs during his time on the show. The rock band sketch with Scarlett Johansson a few years back, the guy that only sings about beer jars and Model T's. Great stuff. Need to use him more and allow him to develop some new material/characters.
Bill Hader
A worthy heir to Hammond. Can do incredible impressions, as well as unique ones (Vincent Price). Just has one of those faces that make you ready to laugh almost immediately. Usually brings up the quality a notch on every sketch he's in.
Darrell Hammond
Was great in the Farrell/Oteri era, but is past his time here. Needs to leave. Brought great things to the show, but has worn out his welcome.
Seth Myers
His brother was infinitely funnier when he was with MadTV. I never liked Myers at all. In contrast to Hader, Myers has a face that makes me want to administer a James Caan,Godfather I, trash can involved, monster beating. But I will say this. He's done a decent job on Update and seems to be best suited there rather than as a sketch performer. I just think Update was far funnier with Amy there to help him along. But I'm OK with him continuing on Update.
Andy Samberg
WIthout his "shorts," I'd be calling for this guy's immediate firing. But those shorts are usually fantastic, every time. He brings basically nothing to the show in the sketches, but his digital shorts have been one of the few crowning achievements of this era of the show, producing pretty much the only moments that are worth going back to.
Jason Sudeikis
Good, solid sketch guy. Pretty funny, can handle a lot of different roles, reliable, great straight man. Probably will never be a "best of Jason Sudeikis" DVD in the future, but he's a solid presence on the show.
Kenan Thompson
Absolutely ABYSMAL. Brings nothing but crickets to every sketch he's in. Mind boggling that this guy is still on the show. TIVO was invented for this pantload.
Kristen Wiig
Obviously brings the most to the table of any of the cast members. Can basically do it all. One of the most original performers to hit the show in a long time. A bit overused, though. Makes a really interesting foil for Forte's stuff.
Abby Elliot
The ONLY new member worth keeping. Adorable, for one thing. And, the first person I've ever seen impersonate Angelina. And she does it incredibly well. But, she needs to show that she can do more than that. I really don't know what her potential is, but I loved her dad, so hopefully that gene has carried over. Would love to see her role increase.
Bobby Moynihan
Again, a "scratch your head" hiring. Guy brings NOTHING to the show whatsoever. Every character he's ever done has simply been grating, annoying, and bowel-movement inducing. I truly despise this guy on the show. My absolute least favorite SNL cast member. Belongs on the "Charlie Rocket" era of the show. Would've been terrible there, too.
Michaela Watkins
Like Moynihan, horrible. Neither of these two should be back. Why bother? They're barely used as it is. She has one character, the "Bitch, please" abomination. The lack of funny in that character could power a small moon ... or a space station. Again, she reminds me of those horrible, horrible C-grade members of the late 80s era casts.
Casey Wilson
Tries way too hard, has never produced anything more than a muffled chuckle in her two years on the show, and maybe only one of those. She has nothing. No characters, nothing interesting to add ... buh-bye.
And that's it. A decent foundation to build on, but need to cut away a lot of the new and spoiled meat, realize where their strengths lie and write a sketch where Abby Elliot shows her ass. Only then can the show return to the glory days of yesteryore. -
I AM really "wishing me" this place had an edit function right about now.
But, point taken.
Now, I'll go wipe the egg off my face. You go wipe off the man-juice. -
Only 2 things I disagree with:
Michaela Watkins has already done a decent handful of impressions and all of them were pretty solid. I think there's a place for her here. She's definitely not on the bottom tier with Moynihan, Kenan, and Carey Wilson.
And I think WU has been better without Poehler. I feel like the audience really "liked" Amy, but the audience laughter to her Update jokes did not corroborate with this. My impression has been that Amy actually killed momentum that Seth had with his jokes and once she was gone, Seth could just go and go and go.
I think Seth is suited only for weekend update and his Anderson Cooper impression, but I think he's been underrated as the Head Writer on SNL. He's largely responsible for the quality of SNL coming way back up after its transitional lull from Tina Fey to him. -
zing recieved. except for the part about man juice. What are we 12?
-
Mickey rocks.
I'm done with bitch please though. SNL needs to lose the obsession with repetitive catch phrases. It's cheap and tired.
-
Fire Kenan. He sucks. That is all.
-
don't get me wrong, I've always liked Darrell and his impressions are fantastic, but SNL has made a very obvious transition with this new cast from traditional humor to absurd and surreal humor. Hammond is old school and doesn't do absurd and surreal, so he kind of clashes with most of their sketches. But I do love the new direction, it's the first time since the Hartman, Myers Farley days that I actually make a point to watch or record SNL. And yeah, sorry but Keenan really is dead weight, probably the least talented person I've ever seen on a sketch comedy show. Every single character he does is basically just...Keenan... doing the same voice, over-pronouncing words and looking bewildered.
-
...crazy? Kenan's "fix it!" character was one of the funniest things on SNL all season.
-
... because Fred Armisen can only get away with playing light-skinned black people.
Seriously. If they didn't desperately need the diversity, Kenan would be gone in a heartbeat. -
1. The shout out to Darrel hammond at the end, made it seem like he was hanging it up after last night, but it just left questions opend, if it was a sendoff that's terrible as it wasn't clear enough, and if it was just a shout out it shound't have been so singled out making it look like he's leaving...i personally hope he's back next year he's one of the few cast members who isn't shoved in our faces every sketch and he's always funny when used.2. Why was there no send off to Don Pardo?...this guy has been with the show for 33 years (all except season 7 i believe, they should have droped the commercial rerun and shortend weekend update so that the very last sketch could have been a nice tribute to the voice of SNL since the beggining...losy opportunity oif you ask meother then that, i thought this episode was great my only complaints where the reused commercial (why not just make a new one instead of recycling a decade old one) and weekend update felt unorganized, like everyone was just there yelling and no one planed how it would go..harry carry was funny though
Best sketch of the night was jeopardy and "Goodnight Saigon" was absolutley hillarious, SNL needs to remember thats how you to a musical number..it was well performed and funny, but not goofy at the same time...plus who wants to bed that song starts popping up on the ipod charts...great song that most people forgot about -
i dont know if its what they write for him, or if its just him himself, but something needs to happen there.
-
And Tom Hanks has hit himself on the podium!
-
It would be nice to see SNL do something daring and just get rid of a bunch of the dead weight.
Abby Elliot might be funny, but she hasn't been in much of anything; still she has the right pedigree (Chris Elliot) and she is cute, so keep her.
The rest of the newbies should go - they have had the spotlight enough times to establish that they aren't funny enough - I can't even remember their names and one of them is really hard to look at.
as for the old-timers; someone please show hammond the door - i mean he has been on there for decades now.
keep hader and wig as long as you can, but don't expect to keep them long because they are in every other movie coming out lately and clearly headed for shows of their own, if not bigger things. (oh, and please get wig to ditch the kathy lee thing - it is more played out than the target lady).
samberg has never done it for me, but the iran short with armisen and his wahlberg was reason enough to keep him around.
DUMP KEENAN - HE HAS NEVER BEEN FUNNY.
Myers too should go - he is either the straight guy or the news guy and neither are that funny. i miss really? w/ seth and amy, but that is it.
armisen and forte are hard calls because they are so weird and occasionally amusing you want to see what they will do next, but they need some new/better material. and i don't want to see forte do another weird-ass prolonged singing sketch ever again. he can be really exhausting.
i think that only leaves sudekas and if you think about it, he is solid but almost always the straight guy in the sketch. he is kind of a blank spot on the show. shouldn't he have some characters by now?
-

if this site enabled voting, we could choose who to dump
by cant_stop_yawning2
that would be an interesting unscientific poll
-
Will someone please fire this guy and hire someone from MAD TV to play Obama? Good Lord, it's just embarrassing. Does he have digital pictures of Loran Micheals screwing a sheep, or what?
-
i find him funny, ever since kenan and kell show i always found him to be funny. the dude cracks me up.
-
Rewatch the Celebrity Jeopardy skit and you'll see that Burt Reynolds' podium reads this as his name.
Best hidden throwback joke ever... -
"Sibilance. Sibilance." - I thought that was an even better call-back, because you could tell that like ONE guy in the audience recognized and understood that joke.
-

by supercowbell4therequestformorecowbell
"im sorry whats that?"

I still don't understand...

...but 'Samberg brings nothing to sketches'? Has it really been that long since "Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals"? Not much of a sketch, but the impression was scary good.

Did Hanks seem kind of stiff doing his comedy last night?
by mr incredible
Man, did his bit seemed forced...it's been a while since he's done comedy (unless you count The DiVinci Code & Angels and Demons). Jeopardy was a great skit, though.
-
May 17, 2009 10:47:04 PM CDT
this talkback is dead, but hanks was supposed to be
by supercowbell4therequestformorecowbell
kinda stiff. i think. anyway i felt it worked and this episode was mostly hilarious, aside from that terrible funreal sketch and a few missed jokes on update
-
And yeah, he was supposed to be stiff... I was impressed that he kept his face straight through those Connery jokes. Brilliant work...
-
Really? Otherwise, keep Forte, but man, don't let him try too hard like that again...
KEEP: Armisen, Forte, Hader, Myers, Wiig, and Elliot.
DUMP: Hammond (been there forever), Sudeikis (couldn't even do a decent Biden), Thompson (SEEMS like he's been there forever), Moynihan (who?) and Wilson (again, who?)
ON PROBATION: Samberg (redeemed by "Mother Lover") and Watkins (if only because "Bitch Pleeze" reminds me of every whiner on this site).
Also, QUIT ADDING EXTRANEOUS CAST MEMBERS. -
He can't even impersonate Charles Barkley. Missed opportunity with the NBA on TNT panel. Maybe Nickelodeon can reboot All That just for Keenan when he's fired.
-
She's not a sketch writer, apparently, and the most successful performers on SNL are those who can write their own stuff, but she is the latest in a long line of straight women (Jane Curtin) who establish a frame of reference for the Gilda Radner-Kristen Wiig types. Same for Jason Sudeikis. Not especially funny but he can act his ass off when he wants to. Plus, Casey's the most shaggable girl on the show right now (ohhhh yeaaaaaah, I like meat with my taters!)
Far as I'm concerned, they could dump Forte (tired), Moynihan (who?) and Watkins (deserves more time) and not skip a beat. -
Yeah, Samberg gets lots of credit for that sketch. That's the thing about him: he doesn't appear a whole lot on the show, but pretty much whatever he does is something that gets talked about after the fact and tapped millions of times on YouTube.
As for Forte's "Beer jar" sketches, yeah, I find them hilarious. They are so insane that it boggles my mind that someone would write that AND get others to go along with the ideas. I mean, come on...a balding, mulleted Forte singing about the Easter Bunny being massacred with the lines, "the hopper has become the hopped upon!" and then literally screaming until it looks like he's going to pass out? That is comedy gold to me. -
She really has to stop with these repetitive speech tick characters. I've liked some stuff she does, but must every Kathy Lee line end with the same chuckle and facial expression? Too many characters she does are just repetitive silly voices! Branch out, dammit!
-
The Aunt critic's "Oh Geeeeeez..", the Terget lady, etc. I have to give her kudos for the mile-a-second "just kidding" character, her vocal delivery IS amazing. But I prefer the charcters that don't use vocal tricks, but rely on character and the dialogue itself. My favorites are the baloon lady and her Nancy Palosi.
-
Have you every really watched Kathy Lee? She does those facial ticks chuckles. Wiig over exaggerates them, sure, but she's got KLG pegged.
-

If the Predator promised not to kill the other players...
by falafalguy
I would totally put him in the game.
-
I have to give it up, this was the best SNL of the season. Not really due to him, but he didn't ruin it either, and was actually funny in the opening skit and as Harry Carey.
