ABC Renews BETTER OFF TED And CASTLE, Takes EASTWICK, Sci-Fi V Remake & Kevin Biegel's COUGAR TOWN To Series!!
I am – Hercules!!
“Castle,” starring Nathan Fillion, and “Better Off Ted,” from the creator of “Andy Richter Controls The Universe,” will be back on ABC next season, according to the Hollywood trade papers.
The network is also taking to series “V,” the Nazi-lizard extraterrestrial sci-fi drama remake starring Fillion’s “Firefly” co-stars Alan Tudyk and Morena Baccarin.
“Cougar Town,” the Courtney Cox MILF sitcom created by "South Park" vet and longtime Ain't It Cool News contributor Kevin Biegel, is now an ABC series, as are the murder mystery “Happy Town” and a not-yet-titled new legal series from “Kitchen Confidential” creator Dave Hemingson.
ABC reality series "True Beauty," which exposes the poor character of gorgeous contestants, has been renewed.
"The Forgotten," a Jerry Bruckheimer procedural about amateur detectives looking into the deaths of unidentified victims, has gone to series.
"Eastwick," based on the John Updike novels, is now an ABC series a well.
They all join the new sci-fi drama “Flash Forward,” returning sitcom “Scrubs” and new sitcom “Modern Family” on ABC’s 2009-2010 schedule, which will be announced at the network’s Tuesday upfront.

That's good to hear about Better Off Ted, that show deserves to be watched. I guess Alan won't be making a return appearance on Dollhouse next season. That's a shame, hopefully they snag Summer Glau instead.
-
I haven't gotten around to seeing Better Off Ted but I liked Andy Richter Controls the Universe so I'm happy for them too.
-
beautiful woman on television.
-
Its not Arrested Development, but its the closest thing on TV to it. Go to ABC's website and watch it.
-
Why would they bring back so many low rated shows? Better Off Ted came off as a poor attempt at Arrested Development.
So, they got rid of Pushing Dasies, but they are going to have these other shows come back? -
It's basically The 4400. Do we need The 4400 back on the air? Avoid this show like the plague, and guarantee Juliette returns where she belongs. Away from these stupid motherfucking lizard aliens.
-
I love Nathan, but the writing on that show is absymal. It gets picked up and we loose 'Life'? This is some serious bullshit.
-
Bones and Lie To Me are worse. Better Off Ted rocks! Stana Katic needs acting lessons though.
-
Looking forward to this series coming back. I think it is in good hands and reading some of the reviews from folks who have seen the pilot, it works
-
a preop Skeletor before the sex change after liposuction treatment. she looks like a chick version of a Seksis from the Dark Crystal or some shit.
-
So I'm happy.
-

If that's not the nerdiest putdown I've ever read on this site, it's damn close. I don't know whether to pity you or shake your hand, (though I disagree 100%). Seriously, I'm in awe. -
Nathan Fillion is coolness personified. He was that in Firefly. He was that in Buffy. He was that in Drive and he is that in Castle.
-
both shows i watch and was worried about, fillion getting screwed over yet again wouldn't be too great either
-
Now go back to your cubicle and get back to work.
-
It's the only series with the potential to become the new Lost or Galactica. Yay for Scrubs. Still better than 97 % of the other network comedies. Don't care for the others.
-
Not as crappy as Big Bang Theory but in the painfully unfunny lab scenes damn near. Andrea Anders, Portia deRossi and Jay Harrington deserve better material.
-
Still hope for that?
-
Why are you such a douchebag? You haven't even seen the show, not eve one second of it. typical fanboy idiocy that gives us all a bad rep.
-
Nathan Fillion must be stoked to be in something with a second season.
-
Just curious.
-
that actually did move like a Seksis. I didn't take her class, but I sat in on one once, 'cause I was hitting on a girl that had her. Anyways, it creeped me out big time. I guess The Unusuals isn't coming back? I didn't watch that show very closely, but usually left it on after Lost, and it seemed to be decent. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more of it.
-
That's about it. Right there. In the subject. So, basically I am typing to just type. Said my peace. Trek ruled, so that's cool. Bleeepy bloopy bleep blop.
-
for most of the people in that True Beauty show.
-
Skeksis.
-
glad its coming back. But, it makes me wish that Fox would have given Drive a chance. Oh well.
-
Please!!!!

Since the V reboot is gonna happen, whither Alpha on Dollhouse?
by pennsydeux
Or is Alan Tudyk just going to be on the run in perpetuity? This is turning out to be a WTF weekend for television, isn't it?
-
Or is it Whore Island? My geography is all mixed up.
-
After finding success with primetime soaps (Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters, Greys, etc) I find it interesting that they are filling their schedule with genre programming for 09-10. Next year they'll have LOST, V, Eastwick and Flash Forward, all of which have a bit of supernatural or sci fi elements in them. I'm definitely happy about it but I think its interesting way to go for them.
-
Pretty sure they make a mystery soap like Desperate Housewives out of the idea. But Happy Town sounds like Twin Peaks light and I still haven't heard a word about the pilots for Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas and the adaption of the Vertigo comic series Fables.
-
They know people love these actors unlike FOX, boneheads.
-
Have her play his sister or something.
-
They annoy me.
Factually he should have been a depressive drunk along the lines of Peter O'Toole in My Favorite Year. The show would have been much more fun.
Sadly it chose to cater to the wrong crowd. -
Yep.
-
The series started okay but ended up being a laugh riot.
Those who say they hate the show probably didn't watch past the first two episodes. Don't we know from shows like 'The Office' not to judge a show by its first few episodes? -
You can't be expected to get great ratings when you don't even air the finale on the regular night. This show is hilarious, it just needs the time or effort or something to get people to check it out.
-
Didn't they put off even airing the "season" for a year? I wonder how it's going to look now?
-
Ken Marino brought it in spades, and a projectile vomiting scene for the AGES at the end of it. Brilliant episode, and there's a preview already of Kristen in the finale: http://tinyurl.com/o7ntps
-
desparate housewives prequel.
-
One of the less stereotypical children on tv... and his relationship with her is a nice counterpoint to the ugliness of the murders being investigated.
-
nice to get the present of better off ted.
regarding fables, the pilot script was written but was never shot. these new shows were only selected from those that were shot. -
It's like Muppet Labs meets the Office!
-
This Lost show is wacky
-
does not Stana Katic's name sound like some Skeksis witchlord shebitch with curled fingers and too sharply defined cheekbones, bringing the curse of shitty been there done that tv upon all?
-
one of the best casts on a tv show I've seen in so long. But for some reason I just... Can't... Seem to watch it.
-
I mean, the show itself is so flimsy it makes BONES look like THE WIRE, but I'm pleased that Fillion is finally getting some traction in his career.
-
Castle's family relationships are the only thing that makes that show worth watching. In fact, I sometimes have to fight the desire to fast forward through the crimes and just watch the family scenes. Fillion is great, but he can't save an otherwise bland, cliche procedural. But his relationship with the daughter is probably the coolest father/daughter thing since Veronica Mars.
-
wasn't this a discussion just last week that the original cast of Scrubs had called it quits and the idea of a second scrubs show would be the new generation? how did that get pushed past execs? scrubs without JD is a crappy WB show.
-
heh. Imagine that.
-
the two scientists. They are the only thing that just doesn't work. Recast and rewrite them.
Good news about Castle, next to Chuck that is probably the most fun show on tv. -
Now that Life has been cancelled, they should hire all of its writers at Castle, who's murder scenes never could emulate the artfulness of the best cop show no one ever saw.
And wasn't it awesome how Damien Lewis killed Garrett Dilahunt with one chop to the neck? He totally had it coming.
On that note, I would like to conclude my post by commenting that someone needs to cast Garrett as a charismatic, alpha male lead in his own series. The guy's awesome and I know he has a hidden well of charisma that we've yet to see. -
It really grew on me, and now it's one of my favorites, and one of the few shows the entire family will sit down to watch. Plus it's nice to see that Nathan Fillion might be around for awhile. So, even if T:SCC didn't get renewed, at least Castle did.
-
Rock on, ABC!
-
Go to any of the cougar dens like Barcelona and tell me I'm wrong.Glad to see that there will be more Veridian Dynamics ads on TV next season.
-
AKA Better Off Ted;)
-
Castle gets Season 2? Are you fucking kidding?
-
It sacrificed character authenticity in its attempts to be offbeat. I liked one episode of those shown to date.
-
Fantastic news! I had given up on ABC and comedies after they axed Knights of Prosperity.
-
... is the legendary John Robie, cat burglar, trim master, and all-around badass mofo. Do not doubt the AICN mojo. He's taking over TV, and the rest of us are humbled by his accomplishments. All hail "Cougar Town"!
-
I know, I know. But hear me out.
He suited Firefly and brought a certain charisma to Drive. But seriously, the guy is a plank. He's the 'that guy' that has two lines as a traffic cop in B movies. If he wasn't in several Joss projects (speaking of overrated...) he would have zero profile. Don't have anything against him, I'm just sayin.
Ok, start the flaming. -
I would love to have the 4400 back on the air. I liked that show.
Henry Fool - that chop to the neck was great.
Better off Ted looked interesting and funny, but I haven't actually managed to get a chance to watch any of it yet. Glad to hear that Castle is coming back, it's a fun show. I'm going to have to side with the "I like the family portions of the show" crowd. I agree that it gives a nice counterpoint to the procedural stuff. -

'Cougar Town' is what locals call my place on a Saturday night
by christian_bale_trashed_my_lights
The four women in their forties who come around for my weekly orgy all, coincidentally, own pet cougars which they have to chain up outside.
-
I'm pleased Castle is getting another chance as I rather enjoy it. Now if only Terminator, Chuck and Reaper could get new seasons...
-
ditch the mom though. The daughter is hot and Stana needs to show more body. Quit wearing dark clothing all the time.
I seriously miss Sons & Daughters from a few years ago on ABC. That show was hilarious.
-
were inserted into "Castle" to grab the grandma and teen demographics.
Next season, they'll add the psychic dog. -
It was . . . uncanny.
-
That's what I get for being Canadian and our stations grabbing shows from all networks willy-nilly.If it came down to one I would prefer The Unusuals over Castle, but would trade in a full season of both for as little as a dozen more of Pushing Daisies, or even Eli Stone.
-
Desperate Houswives & Castle not cancelled. The Firefly/Fillion "Kiss of Death" is lifting!
-
I like Castle, and I adore Nathan Fillion, but it is NOT better than Bones. Fillion carries Castle... that show would be nothing without him... but the entire cast of Bones is funny, intelligent, and absolutely great actors.
