L.A. Readers! Join Rian Johnson And Mr. Beaks For THE BROTHERS BLOOM At The Landmark This Sunday!

Published at:  May 15, 2009 3:47:23 PM CDT

Beaks here...

I know you're all just ready and rarin' to go see POPE WARS this weekend, but if you live in New York City and Los Angeles, there's an alternative that won't leave you hating yourself as you walk out of the theater.

It's been a long wait, but Rian Johnson's THE BROTHERS BLOOM has finally arrived! At least, it has for some of you! And if you're fortunate enough to be kicking around L.A. this weekend, you'll have the opportunity to augment your viewing experience of this exquisite con man caper - starring Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz (in what I believe to be her finest performance yet) - with a live, post-film Q&A featuring Mr. Johnson and yours truly!

Want in? Well, then come on down to The Landmark on 10850 West Pico Blvd. for the 4:50 PM showing (tickets available here) on Sunday. Once it's finished, you'll have thirty minutes to fire off questions at the writer-director of BLOOM and the excellent high school noir, BRICK! And if you can't make it for Sunday, you might want to buy tickets for the 4:35 PM showing on Saturday at the Arclight, where my esteemed colleague from CHUD.com, Devin Faraci, will be handling the moderatin' chores.

Personally, I don't care which screening you attend; I just want you to get out and support THE BROTHERS BLOOM this weekend. You're not likely to see a more dazzlingly cinematic movie this year.

    Ain't It Bloom News

    by hoffmanpasander

Seriously, you guys. We've had nothing but articles on Brothers Bloom, Terminator Salvation and I Love You Man since 2009 began. You may think that your brand name will carry you through, but people will simply stop reading unless you fucking sort it out and print actual articles - not competitions or screenings or giveaways or stuff about holographic posters. Compare the news you get on Dark Horizons or JoBlo to this. I only come here for the talkbacks these days. At least Herc tries to carry the news in Coaxial, even if it's heavily biased towards certain shows. The movie news has basically evaporated. Seriously, we get this big fanfare about Beaks joining the site and yet he writes like 4 articles a week. On the internet! And most are links to other sites. It's the internet, boys! The blog age! You have to keep up!

    Exactly. The overkill is ridiculous....

    by dannyglovers_dickblood

....why do you have to fist fuck every movie down our fucking throats? Who are you kidding? This thing will make 18 bucks in its theatrical run.

They can at least use Merrick...

    by hoffmanpasander

... as a news monkey if the "writers" don't want to waste their precious time reporting the news. I mean, there are, what, 4 regular writers here (Harry, Beaks, Quint, Capone) and numerous regular contributors, and yet we get maybe 4-5 articles a day. At least 50% of which are plugs for something, or news about a movie that's already been covered to death. What do you people do all day? Look at a blog like ThePlaylist that manages to keep up and write lengthy opinion with each piece of news it reports. That appears to be written by one guy. So why can't this team do anything all day? I am a long time reader and in many ways this site was great when I was young, but now honestly I am only coming back for talkbacks and sheer old habit. I could delete the link from my favourites and really not miss out on anything. What a shame.

    HoffmanPasander - I'm with you.

I started back in college so many years ago when they featured all kind of scoops and rogue picture takers, but these days they really just promote. They aren't hungry because they get their clicks, which generate revenue. Time for AICN to hire new contributors and start this site again. It isn't fresh. It is stale and scriptgirl epitomizes that.

Time Out New York gave it a one star rating

    by cant_stop_yawning2

That is out of 5. I think Paul Blart received a better review. Strange as this is generally the kind of movie they like...

    And by the way...

    by darthcorleone

All this complaining about a lack of writing on the site compels me to offer my services yet again. I do not know if AICN is looking for more support or not, but I'm local to Hollywood and am willing to go to screenings. I have submitted reports to the site a few times in the past, and Moriarty actually went so far as to encourage me to write more for the site, but inquiries I made for specific assignments went unanswered. Anyway, the offer stands...
