Are The Players About To Toss Their Coach Out Of The Game?? Penultimate SURVIVOR!!

Published at:  May 14, 2009 2:33:55 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Jeff Probst continues to enjoy mocking beponytailed Benjamin J. Wade, 37, the nerdtastic self-described “dragonslayer” known to all loyal “Survivor” fans as “Coach.”

Wade, who bills himself as a natural leader (in addition to serving as the head women's soccer coach at Missouri’s Southwest Baptist University, he conducts California’s Susanville Symphony), appears to be fresh out of followers in the Tocantins.

His final minion, middle-school principal Debbie Beebe, defected from the Cult of Dragonslayer last episode, only to be voted off anyway.

Now all that stands between Wade and one million dollars are:

* Stunning Wisconsin hairdresser and fellow Timbura vet Erinn Lobdell, 26;

and the three surviving members of the Jalapao tribe:

* New York corporate consultant and Yale grad Stephen Fishbach, 29;

* Grammy-nominated NFL bride Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George, 37; and

* Alabama cattle rancher James “J.T.” Thomas, 24.

My money’s on the cattle rancher.

    coach is either the world's biggest natural douchebag, or a created character on par with sascha baron cohen's borat. my favorite moment of the season thus far? coach telling his son, "guess what they call me here? dragonslayer!" hahahaha. NOBODY calls him "dragonslayer." he gave himself that nickname. awesome.

    The guy is a freak who completely irritates my wife every time he opens his mouth to tell another tall-tale. I personally find the guy hilarious. Another thing I love about Coach

    by so_here_i_am

    After every time JT shakes his hand, looks into his eyes, and promises him he is following Coach's orders, right before stabbing him in the back *again*, Coach keeps on believing him and worshipping him.

    Hell, this past week, JT and the others convinced Coach's only ally to turn on him, just so JT can tell him he found out about Debbie's betrayal and that's why he convinced the others to vote her out. "I didn't betray you by voting for Debbie over Taj, Coach ol' buddy, I *saved* you." God, I hope he says that and that Coach falls for it. It's completely unnecessary, but evil and awesome.

    And yeah, Coach's "loved one" was his assistant coach. A freakin' coworker--or ex-coworker, if Coach really was fired.

    I've enjoyed postgame videos of life at Ponderosa. They all seem to be more grownup than the African crew was. I've not found this season overall as compelling as many others, but there are great things. Three weeks ago, my wife say "I've figured it out. Coach reminds me of Gary Busey!" the girls -- the ones who start out at least semi-attractive, that is -- only get hotter as the show progresses. erin, for example, i didn't give a second thought to, until about midway through the season, when there was a totally gratuitous shot of her underfed belly. wow, was it hot. yeah, it's sick and shallow to find such things attractive, but i can't help it. the girls just get more and more hot as they continue starving. just wait until sunday's finale, though. erinn will look like merely an approximation of the erinn we now see on the show -- probably with her hair did and a shitload of tacky makeup on. and no cute glasses.

    by himbo

    Sierra actually got cuter as time went on. I'm not really fond of skinny chicks, but she worked her aesthetic. I hope Probst calls Coach on the Sierra/Debbie/Coach blowup. I rewound the TiVo and Sierra was absolutely right.
    I'm probably a bit shallow with Erinn. The giant hair makes her look like Ronon Dex from Stargate: Atlantis. Guess I'm rooting for either Cowboy or Stephen. And if coach could wiu? That would restore faith in Bizarro-world.

    In a lot of ways Stephen is the underdog. When he won the immunity last week you could see how surprised and happy he was, even HE didn't believe he was going to win an idol on the show. You're right about him backstabbing, but I think people are so used to that now that we accept that it's part of the game. He also comes off as being incredibly likable, even when he's blackmailing people. There's just something about him taking out all of these big strong players that makes me smile.

Because his old tribe was split between him, Tyson, and Debbie on one side, and Brendan & Sierra on the other, with Erin on her own, Stephen, JT & Taj have since the merge been in control of the game. The level of self-delusion that people like Coach are capable of are truly, truly stunning. And yes, the closest "loved one" that Coach could muster was his assistant coach at a small-time university chick's soccer program ... which is just pathetic. But a guy like coach will convince himself that the reason he has no friends and is so alone is because other humans are intimidated by how advanced and hyper-developed he is.

She's more dangerous in competitions than Taj.The threesome alliance of Cattle Rancher, Consultant, and NFL wifey for final three. Cattle Rancher and Consultant for final two.However, the consultant is really smart so if the last challenge requires big brains, he could win.

    There is a term for how Coach is...

    by dougmckenzie

    It is Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Coach cannot comprehend that people don't share his world view, and that they don't believe he is better than him. NPDs also have a hard time viewing other people as having independent feelings and opinions. That is why he kept constantly trying to manipulate Sierra socially. He thought all effects could be 100% controlled by the causes he initiated.It's not just that he wants to be that way, he is completely incapable of being any other way. It's a real disease. Luckily Coach seems to not be the type who can get violent when there world view is shattered. He mostly just gets depressed.

    Coach should be in every season

    by m00kiedood

    I don't care if he competes or not.

    Just bring him along, give him time with a camera by himself, in front of a sunset or sitting in front of a waterfall, where he can do his secret Tai Chi, his fighting poses with the tree branch while a helicopter cam circles, talking about himself in the third person, regaling us with tales of his awesomeness and reciting poetry and tribal warrior dragon slayer wisdom.

    Just make sure you hire a camera crew that can keep a straight face, and keep Probst reined in so that he doesn't poke Coach too hard ... and the guy will just keep on believing that the whole thing is about him, and that the world is grateful to bask in his awesomeness every week.

    That would be glorious.

    When I watch him, I swear to god that I'm watching a show created by the creators of The Office, and that Coach is just a brilliantly acted and written Michael Scott character.

    by big jim

    "...and that she could have given it to Erinn to 100% gurantee that Coach goes home? "I thought for sure, when they showed that JT had voted for Erin that she had the idol. I knew without a doubt, one way or another, when I saw JT write down Erin's name, that she was not going home.Why did Taj not play it herself? Was she worried it might piss someone off? Using it guarantees her in the final four. Sure, there was little chance she was the one going home, but she wasn't 100% safe. Getting that far into the game and she doesn't do EVERYTHING in her power to stay in the game? Doesn't make sense to me.

    JT's Problem+Hidden Idol?

    by dundermifflinintern

    JT's problem is that he's really strong and has a lot of votes on the jury. He probably has Coach, Debbie, Brendan already. He's the only remaining player who voted for Erinn, which means Erinn probably isn't too happy with him. If Taj doesn't care about the money(rich husband and pop star money) that might be a problem for JT but Taj also likes Stephen from the beginning.

    If Taj goes with JT against Stephen and Erinn, and we assume she still owns the immunity idol(and it's not too late in the game to play it?) then either of them can play it to eliminate the other two without some kind of firemaking contest. Same thing with any other 2v2 combination.

    Stephen should know that he cannot win against JT in the finals. If JT wins final immunity he gurantees his victory. If he doesnt, Stephen better vote his ass out because he doesnt stand a chance at the jury. I predict Erinn vs Stephen in the final.
