I am hoping for the best with the Expendables, but have a gut feeling I will be disappointed. Plus, I don't have much love for Sly: here is a man who made First Blood and Rocky, and then spent a good part of his career turning out Tango & Cash, Cobra, Over the Top, Lockdown, Judge Dredd and a bunch of other crappy movies. <p> He's like that hot girl you once dated who wants to get back together; sure she still looks good, but you keep forgetting how she doubted you and cheated on you, and sucked over a 100 fifthly cocks. Makes you a little hesitant when she says she has changed her ways.

This is also why I had trouble with Bale (praise be his name) as Batman. Yeah, he is in shape, but he isn't built like he could be a light heavy weight in the UFC. <p> Now Stallone might not look like he could be a pro boxer anymore, but fuck, I could easily see him be leader of the Aryan Brotherhood in a prison flick. As much as I am not a huge Sly fan, I will say he does have the physique to play a bad ass.

Let's get real, the only GOOD movies Stallone made back in the day were First Blood and Rocky. Everything else is crap, guilty pleasures no doubt, but still crap. I'm not hating, I loved Rocky Balboa and Rambo, and look forward to The Expendables, but anyone who thinks Over the Top or Tango and Cash are 'good' movies is delusional.

I won't judge, but personally I prefer his earlier, less successful movies such as Nighthawks and F.I.S.T (and even Paradise Alley to a degree) over his bloated 80's action movies. Personal taste I guess. <p> IMO after First Blood he hadn't made any worthwhile project until Coplands. I'm hoping The Expendables will be more in the vein of Nighthawks and First Blood and less in the vein of Cobra and Rambo II and III.

...but no matter how much you quote it you cannot convince me that Tango and Cash was any good. Hell, I quote it or reference it when I want to discuss a bad movie. But if you like it, hey who am I to say anything. <p> As for Demolition Man, never really did anything for me (although I found Wesley more annoying than Sly). And while I admire what they tried to do with Copland, it was always a disappointment as a movie. But I do respect Sly for at least trying to act again, instead of just growling lines and glaring at the camera.

I got goosebumps when Stallone went into that final confrontation... knowing he would probably die and coming out victorious, pretty much like a classic western in New Jersey. And Demolition Man, honestly I don't remember much of that, I just remember laughing a lot - and I think it was supposed to be a comedy, so it was good. And does Antz count as a Stallone movie? Because it was a funny comparison of ant infrastructure to modern civilization. Woody Allen had most of the jokes though.

What a great movie that was. Cobretti was another great Stallone character. How can you not love a guy that says something like :"This is where the law ends and I begin." i`m a fan of sly over 25 years now and i really would loved 2 say he only did good movies so far, but that aint true! if you havent lived in the 80`s its hard 2 say those movies were great in their time. same goes to the arnie movies except "the terminator" movies, "conan 1" and "predator"!come on "true lies" is a cameron movie, but really has this mid 90`s buddy action style like slys "demolition man" or judge dread" kind of thing. in those days action movies were combined with a lot of humor and didnt worked for me then and still! Continentalop is right about the sly movies "nighthawk" "alley" and "fist" those movies were totaly underrated and if robert de niro or al pacino would have played those roles, they would have get oscar nominations, just because their names would stand on the poster in those days. sly was an actor first in the 70`s and early 80`s! he got an oscar nomination for "rocky" and was called the "new brando" etc but he fukked the actor title up by continuations of the "rocky saga" and with well not so good choices likes "rhinestone cowboy" and "rambo 2" after that he only did action movies and was a no go acting wise, for all the people outthere, beacuse he became that action icon and thats that! "first blood" was another very underrated movie, it was and still is in my opinion oscar material, but like i`ve said he already was a no go acting wise cus "rocky 3" already came out"! if this movie would have de niro in it he`d be nominated, i bet my ass and not because he was better then! sly really had acting chops, but his fame became bigger and bigger and he was already the biggest name in hollywood! i guess they didnt want 2 make him even more powerful in those days. same like tom cruise he owned the indusrty for over a decade and was mister box office, but never get an oscar and not because he is that bad. really already some people like adrian brody or tim robbins won osacrs for so so roles and tom should have get one for "born on th 4th" or "magnolia" if those actors has one, he should too compared too people who have already one of course! but i guess the industry doesnt work that way?! they make u famous (and we of course) and make u powerful but they dont give u everything about sly same like tom i guess! when u are already mister box office u aint gonna get the acting respect with an oscar thats that! the greatest proof for that was "copland" the most underrated movie with sly. he gained a lot of weight and played best since "fist" and he didnt get shit. while someone like everybodys darling tom hanks, gets nominated for "castaway" cus he lost weight and was talking to a freaking volley ball, whats so great about that? same goes to christian bale, he was beserk in "american pyscho" way beyond acting and movies, risking his life in "the machinist" and he didnt get shit as well. but if u are tom hanks who can not act a shitty crying scene, u get the actor love with 2 oscars, dont get it!?! sly was a better actor than tom hanks ever could be but he didnt get the love because he was the biggest name in the 80`s about his 80`s action movies: "cobra" is a cult movie, its a silly story, but badass. it wont get into my 500 best movies of all times, but it is one of the coolest 80`s action movies and their were a lot of them then! "tango & cash" is nearly the same. if "lethal weapon" is the best buddy action movie of all times, then "tango & cash" is in second place! its another no brainer story/ action movie but it was fun too see those 80´s icons togehter in one flick! i cant help it even if "over the top" bombed hard and got a lot of bad reviews, which was a sport then from critics, to bash on stallone movies, i loved it then! i was in the cinema and liked the cheesy story & the soundtrack cus i was a teenager in the 80`s and that was the sound of the 80`s. these days this flick wont hold a candle againgst "rocky" or "first blood" cus those movies are classics and grew old with grace but well, what can i say...i remember me and my buddies going to the latest stallone movie "over the top" and we loved it, cus sly won againgst bull hurly, sammy hagar singing "winner takes it all" and hawk gets his kid, all ends well...so 80`s man!:) about "demolition man" really, i was never that hyped except "rocky 4" up as this flick came out. i wanted 2 see it badly and really was disapointed after seeing it. it was the greatest disapointment of a sly movie i`ve seen for the first time. i didnt liked anything about this flick then. with years i forced myself 2 watch it another 2-3 times and liked it a little bit more, even wesley is in but the dude above was right he was more anoying than sly! nearly same goes too "judge dread" very disopointed after coming out of the cinema then, even i think it was not as bad as "d.man"! but the biggest disappointment was of course "rocky 5" man this movie was shit and it took me 3 years 2 watch another sly movie in the cinema after that! while i still think slys movie "oscar" is way funnier than every comedy arnold made, i really would like to forget this period of sly!:) "lock up" was another good 80´s/prison break drama, can not say something bad about it! "cliffhanger" still one of the best action movies of the whole 90`s! sadly with an shitty showdwon with john lithgow, bad casting choice! "daylight" & "specialist" sucked big time "The Specialist" a lot because of james woods! i really liked "Assassins" a soild action thriller, whatever?! even though i think antonio outshined sly in this! same goes 2 "get carter" i guess i`m one of the few who liked this movie. i wished sly never made "driven" this sucked ass, big time but thx god he didnt cast til schweiger for "the expendables" or otherwise i would have a problem watching this flick in the cinema, cus I HATE THIS GUY! "d-tox" was ok and i aint wont say a word about "shade" cus it has jamie foxx in it and i hate this guy even more than til schweiger, damn i already said a word about this shit fest!:) BUT SLY IS BACK SINCE "ROCKY BALBOA" AND "JOHN RAMBO" and i trust him, that he knows what the fans want these days and he did it! he did the best he could he brought as much as possible, all the icons and badasses togther. its not his fault jcvd and kurt went pussy on him and that wesley wasnt allowed to leave the country! sly deserves our respect for bringing back REAL ACTION MOVIES wit REAL TOUGH MEN and not matt damon or shia kind of bad asses! he aint no liar like quentin with his pussy fest "basterds" SLY IS THE TRUTH these days when action is an answer! so we all should know this and pay our respect by not downloading this movie when it comes out, go and watch it in the cinema and if a friend has a copy give him a slap into his face for this sacrilege! tell ur friends, tell ur moms and dads SLY WILL BE BACK IN 2010 and he will blow ur brains out! the workprint leaked online some time ago. The fight with the black guy is even longer and you see him squirming on the icicle for about 30 seconds. Also, the death of Travers is way different. Sly shoots him only once with the piton gun, then Sly's ally comes in and blasts the guy with a shotgun (which is why you see him holstering a shotgun in the theatrical cut). That parachute guy gets shot on the way down the cliff as well, which is why there was a plot hole as to why he was hanging on a tree, semi-conscious later on. And yes, the film was even further cut in the UK by the bbfc. <p>A fucking ton of films are cut by the MPAA that you probably have no idea about (since they are a private organization of right wing nutjobs that do not disclose details of what they cut and why).

On a broader note, are there even R or PG rated movies anymore? Seems like all we have is pushing-the-limits PG-13 flicks that are either too soft where it counts or too hard where it would be better to be classy, and ultra-R flicks that should probably be NC-17 due to ridiculous, over-the-top gore and/or vulgarity.<p>Really, unless you're a fan of seeing torture porn in theaters, how has PG-13 resulted in better movies? Seems like R and PG have headed toward being wastelands, while filmmakers just push the limits rather than making good old-fashioned middle-of-the-road R and PG films.<p>Seems like no one's using R in genre films like they did with Die Hard, Predator, Aliens, Cobra, the old Rambo films...is Matrix the last good example?<p>That's one reason I'd like to see The Expendables rated R--it would most likely be a good example of old-school R rating, too gritty for PG but not sadistic like Inglourious, Saw, Hostel, etc.

I think Hollywood isn't even aware of how cool it has the potential to be. There's so much untapped potential. Likely more legal/copyright red tape than we're aware of, but at the end of the day, they're in the business of turning ideas into imaginative reality. Be nice to see them making more cool ones happen. This film by Stallone--if it doesn't pull its punches--looks like a good case.

It was originally going to be made in 1973 starring John Wayne, but then one of his co-stars, Bruce Lee died, so they postponed it until 1978 but by then Wayne had cancer and they had to shell the project. <p> The film was going to star John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin, Robert Mitchum, Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen, Michael Cain, Jim Brown and the Chuck Norris filling in for his dead body Lee. this is a post from a guy at imdb who told he has something to do with the movie! i leave it up 2 you if u believe or not: Answering some questions: 1. It was written as a PG-13. Some of the deaths of the film push it tho, especially Garza's and Paine's are very graphic, even for PG-13 standards. And no sign if Stallone's shooting R-takes for the DVD or not. 2. By the last scene with Ross and Mr. Church can hint that there will be a sequel if this does well, possibly with more Expendables. 3. When it first came out, I asked my "employer" about if Seagal was going to be cast or not, as well as Sean Bean. She relayed the message and she heard back from a P.A. who told me Stallone wasn't interested in casting Seagal in the film, and that there really was no part for Bean in the script, as at the time Monroe's character was a french woman. 4. Norris was not asked to be a part of the production. If anyone has any questions about the shooting script, i can't relay it as it's on my "employers" computer but I can answer questions. ****************MORE SPOILERS***********************SPOILERS****************** Dear All, I contacted my employer via phone just a few minutes ago in regards to casting, and it seems that the changes in the shooting script I had weren't fabrications, but instead, just changes made in time. Here's some information i can provide, but be warned MAJOR SPOILERS: 1. Richard is out of the script. Robert Knepper and Alan Tudyk were both approached for the role. Timing didn't work out for Knepper, and Alan was in between projects and didn't want to exhaust himself. The role was cut down alot to 2 scenes (One with Tool and Ross, and one with Ross, Road and Christmas) and just last week the role of Richard was cut entirely. 2. Lickson's role in the film was instead put into Sandra (iti), who we will find out is working for INTERPOL when she starts her relationship with Ross, and has been helping the revolutionaries against Garza get guns and medical attention. 3. Sands has been written out entirely. The role was intended to be very large in the first draft, was later cut down after the casting of Eric Roberts. Was still going to be 3 scenes, and Stallone was courting former Demolition Man co-star Denis Leary to appear, but his contract with Rescue Me got in the way. Stallone also tried getting John Lurie and Kevin Pollack but both declined the role as well, so it's been scrapped. Sucks because he was one of the better pieces of comedic relief. 4. Emmanuel was scrapped due to time and budget constraints. Trejo's fee, as well as the costs for some of the stunt work in that scene, would've put them over, so his role has been combined with that of Mickey Rourke's Tool (as story purpose) and Gary Daniel's Wickham (in terms of finding Sandra's hideaway

i read an interview once about sly, where he told he always felt like an outsider all his life and he always had 2 fight 2 get where he wants etc. he has this kind of view about himself, all his career long. since he writes his own stuff/screenplays etc (90% of it)i guess its one of the quotes that always matches about sly in "rambo 2" of "being expendable" or like in "rocky" where he self calles himself a "bum" or that he doesnt wants to be a "nobody" etc. he always had this outsider attitude in his movies, except some stuff he made from the end 80`s til mid 90`s! another reason why we like him, he was the biggest thing in the 80`s but he fought his way through to this point. nothing came easy on him, he had 2 work harder 2 get there. he was never a pretty guy...handsome ok, but he did a make over on himself and formed himself to a sex symbol in the 80`s. in the mid 80`s every guy wanted 2 be like him and nearly every woman loved him! once i saw and interview where he just quit with brigitte, he was disappointed, hurt, felt betrayed and he talked and answered the questions and maybe this was the most inside interview i saw from sly. it was the first time i realized, he has problems, he is an oustider, he is a nerd in another way..cus he was talking about daggers and that he collects them and showed them 2 the interviewer and he was like a kid with a dagger. i mean he is a freakin autor and every guy who writes (novels, poems, screenplays etc.) knows that u need 2 be a little different in thinking...writers questioning themselfs over and over again to get there with the story our themselfs. writers live somehow in their own world to form such characters and stories. sly already said it some times now...he always thinks he is a writer first. my point is, that is that what makes him more special than arnold, segal, norris, jcvd, willis or the rest of the guys. i just read it here 2 on aicn, some guy wrote sly has this "vulnerable side" even as a badass, he has that compared to guys like arnold, norris etc that is a plus, it makes him more believable than, kicking the shit of an army and dont care about it! the other badass actors never could deliver something like that, cus sly lives it, he always felt like and outsider, a nobody, someone expendable! but in the hearts of the fans, he aint and never will!
