Hey folks, Ambush Bug
here with another Shoot the Messenger column chock filled with bits of DIS and pinches of DAT.

Let’s start out with the winners of our “Best. Comic Book Guy. Quote. Ever.” Contest. The following will be receiving THE SIMPSONS: THE MARGE BOOK, full of all things Marge, just in time for a belated Mother’s Day gift. There were tons of entries and quite a few repeat quotes, so I chose the first of the best quotes submitted.

"Oh, loneliness and cheeseburgers are a dangerous mix."
Andrew Heiting-Doane

Bart: "Stan Lee is still here?"
Comic Book Guy: "Stan Lee never left, and I'm beginning to think his mind is no longer in mint condition."

Josh Luterman

“If my knowledge of sci-fi movies is correct--which it is--the black car is an advanced probe for the mother ship. Now, if you're through, I'm going to spend my last hours on Earth complaining about movies on the Internet.”
Richard Fernandez

CBG: “Err... Tell me, how do you feel about 45 year old virgins who still live with their parents?”
Woman: “Comb the Sweet Tarts out of your beard and you're on.”
CBG: “Don't try to change me baby.”

Jim Zoyiopoulos

"Inspired by the most logical race in the galaxy - the Vulcans – breeding will be permitted once every seven years. For many of you, this will mean much less breeding. For me, much much more."
C. Robert Dimitri

“Lucite hardening... must end life in classic Lorne Greene pose from Battlestar Galactica... Best... death... ever!!”
Jacob Brown

“That is a rare photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore. It’s worth 150 dollars.”
Trey Shaver

"There's no emoticon for what I'm feeling!"
Tim Harrod

"Someone has mixed an AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in with the PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN series. This will not stand."
Chris

"Are you the creator of Hi and Lois because you are making me laugh."
Bob Jensen

These books went out last week, so if the winners haven’t received THE MARGE BOOK yet, they soon will. Thanks to all who participated in the contest.

Jon Hamblin chats with Bryan Talbot

Friend of the @$$Holes Jon Hamblin (editor of Dads-space.com) had a chance to sit down with Bryan Talbot at a recent Sci Fi London event and ask him a few questions. Check out this cool interview below…

Part Two of the interview can be found here. It mainly deals with his work on A TALE OF ONE BAD RAT, and there's also an exclusive trailer for GRANDVILLE, his new anthropomorphic steampunk comic, coming out later this year.

    Cholly & Flytrap...

    by lacloake

I remember reading that years ago in a comic that also had serials of Akira, The Last American and a few other gems.... what the hell was it called? C & F was fucking hilarious too, really gruesome ending if I remember correctly...

    Just answered my own question...

It was called Toxic! Great collection too... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic! ... They don't make 'em like that anymore, salad days......

    Frog Thor is a legend!

    by the penultimate gunslinger

Though a new group of Young Avengers?? Why does every Marvel team have to have a complete rota revamp every few months? Will we soon be seeing a new group of Runaways as well? (although that would be good - the old team have become stale due to consistant fuckupery from the writers).

And those Comic Book Guy quotes.....

    by the penultimate gunslinger

... had me laughing like a buffoon. That character is so spot on.

In fact they should kill off regular Thor again....

    by the penultimate gunslinger

... and replace him with Frog Thor. Frog Thor should be the one who brings down Normal Osbourne and ends Dark Reign. Make it happen, Marvel!!!!

    Really? Those Simpsons quotes?

    by d.vader

The "I've wasted my life" is so much better than the Sean Connery/Roger Moore one. Meh.

    Psst... Gunslinger...

    by joenathan

They're not really heroes... they're bad guys... kind of like the Dark Avengers... don't tell anyone...

Ah! Maybe I should have actually read those preview scans. I guess that's a slightly more interesting concept, but not by much.

    Pet Avengers

    by continentalop

Any else remember the old issue of "What If?" that had "what if Howard the duck led a super-hero team of animal characters?"
That issue also featured my other favorite What If? idea: what if you sat behind the Leader at the movies?

In the latest New Avengers: Reunion, what do we get?Thats right, a West Coast Avengers BBQ including Iron Man in full costume and holding a beer... fantastic.

    By the way...

    by continentalop

...Will someone please kill Bullseye. Yeah, he is a psychotic criminal who likes to kill people, doesn't mean we should be rooting for him (American Eagle, where are you to finish this douche bag off?).
And as for that Dark Young Avengers preview, notice the fact that the robbers were racially mixed? You've got to hand it to crooks in the comic book universes, they may be thieves but they are not racist (unlike the guys I met in LA County in my youth).

    New Young Avengers?

    by homer sexual

Why? What was wrong with the old Young Avengers? Mighty Avengers even mentions Cassie and Vision (my two least favorit YA members, FWIW) being on both teams.

This new book might be good, but I really was hoping the "real" Young Avengers would be back at some point.

    by homer sexual

Well, I am stupid also, I didn't realize this was Dark Young Avengers, I just thought it had the Dark Reign banner. My bad.

My LCS was, surprisingly, sold out of the Reunion issue. I was bummed, and am now even more excited to grab my copy this week. Loved your comparison to ballers partying in full uniform, btw.
