Finally, an SNL worth staying up for!
-
Hmm - I'm the first poster on a Saturday night. That sure is an ego boost!
-
The geeks must be out tonight, except me :( oh well, cant wait to see Timberlake and Samberg make me jizz in my pants.
-
Glad to get that post out of the way. Now someone needs to post that this show has sucked since ... the poster was around college age.
-
That MadTV is worse. Somehow, Hercules always uses that as a shield. That is the worst argument in the world. That's like saying broccoli tastes bad, but then someone saying that dog doo tastes worse. Yes. Of course it does. Doesn't change the fact that broccoli tastes bad.
-
Rosie Live. Osbournes Unloaded. Mind of Mencia.
-
it doesn't always have to be great, it matters that it stays on TV, one day it will be gone and America will be worse for it. Besides tonight I think will actually be funny and if they just dumped Keenan and got a couple of funny women the show would be much better. No matter, I still get at least one laugh out of an episode.
-
when was that voted on? I like broccoli...
-
You can compare MadTV and SNL, but not Broccoli and Dog Poop. Broccoli and Dog Poop are not in the same genre of food type, if at all. SNL and MadTV have the same target audience and have a valid argumental debate on which is better since they are both going for the same thing. So your little "that's like saying dog poo tastes worse" is completely invalid and stupid. Leave. NOW.
-
You know, there's something comforting about seeing an aicn talkback for a new Saturday Night Live. I don't know, I just love seeing it up there.
-
The Whitest Kids You Know. Human Giant. Going outside. Talking to a girl. Reading a book.
-
Very well, broccoli and lima beans. Or any two foods you hate. Don't be so fucking literal. It makes you look stupid. The argument isn't what show is better. SNL is, by far. MadTV is painful. The argument is whether SNL is still relevant, and whether there needs to be regime changes, writer or cast shake-ups, etc. FlyinHawaiian, stick to what you know. Masturbating while crying.
-
Give Samberlake their own sitcom.
It'd be the best new show NBC had on in years. -
Fuck you for bashing broccoli.
-
the "masturbating while crying" cut made me laugh my ass off!
-
Hope they do that once again. The Brothers Gibb sketch? Not so much.
-
Looks like it.
-
They've been starting at 10:29 Central most of the season for their live shows.
-
This is like Conan's Celebrity Survey bit. A few more weeks...
-
should host half the episodes every year.
-
would be a brilliant actual invention
-
wow. I hate the Target lady. When they put her in the show it is never a good sign.
-
hopefully taking a few weeks off will produce a good show tonight.
-
i came in late, while justin was roaming the halls singing for his monologue. what did i miss?p.s. Justin is the best host this season... the best EVERY season he's done it, really.
-
Sort of like a surrogate for the viewer, really.
-
who among us would have pegged JT for being one of the great SNL hosts?
-
That was great.
-
I love "meta" stuff.
-
The Britney Line made me laugh like crazy
-
classic new digital short
-
AHAHAHAHAHAHA That was great!!!
-
just try harder for Timberlake?
-
...including your mother.
I think Target Lady is hilarious. Its one of the few recurring characters that doesn't bug the shit out of me after 2 or 3 viewings. She's like Will Ferrell's Harry Carey, just so weird that it doens't even matter what she'd doing, as long as she's just being odd, I laugh like crazy.
Oh, and I love it when big-shots like Susan Saranson and Patricia Clarkson do silly stuff like that video. -
"wow when does your album drop?"
-
Yes. Yes he is.
-
he is tied with walken
-
Dear God - my respect for him continually grows.
-
Nice.
-
Tom Hanks is still my favorite... but Timberlake moves up with each appearance he makes.
-
heh.
-
it does seem that the writers and the cast seem to step it up a notch when timberlake is on
-
is even more annoying as a comic than he was as a wannabe R&B singer.
-
i want to take a bite out of all those dancers asses
-
That shit was so cool in the Eighties.
-
You have a giant stick up your ass, don't you?
-
Need a boner killer stat.
-
if by fifteen, you mean inches...well then guilty as charged, and thanks for noticing! oh and thanks for stopping by with your witty comments
-
by a long shot. If anyone can top this, it's Will Ferrell next week.
-
doesn't like music. Bite the ass, taste the poop.
-
But yeah, this has been the cake so far.
-
I'm actually an undercover cop.
-
And sheryl crow on 30 Rock? I might have to extend the DVR after the Office this week.
-
Everything else you unformed tweenies worship is plastic, after all.
-
Yeah, Jon Hamm was the best until tonight.
-
He grew up in the industry. Like the son of an accountant at a CPA convention. He's in his element.
Watch Britney's appearance years back. She was good too. Not as good as Timberlake. But you get the idea. -
makes me smile.
-
the Governor sketches, even though i'm not from NY, for those who'll critique in advance.
-
Made me laugh more than it should have.
-
Made me laugh more than it should have.
-
No, of course you don't. None of you born when the made good movies.
Bring it on down to douchebagville!! -
Even Nimoy is killing tonight.
-
COMEDY GOLD!!!
-
...title update.
-
You'd think this site would mention that.
-
did your mom take her valium and cry herself to sleep early? is that why your projecting your emo rage in this talkback? i mean im sure your mom wasnt lying to you when she said daddy didnt leave because of you (rolls eyes) lol
-
that is all.
-
Even if it's not always the funniest - it's almost always like a party, which is cool with me. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch. By God, find something else to do on a Saturday night then! ^_^
-
worst troll ever...which I guess makes you the best troll ever so hey congratulations kid
-
I caught the first twenty minutes of "Fever Pitch"....no, no I don't...and it was fucking dreadful.
-
I'm actually surprised they didn't push Fallon up to the early part of the show... oh well.
-
That may be a record
-
A lot of different set pieces used in that one.
-
Still would have been the best sketch on half the shows this year.
-
It wasn't hilarious, but they put some thought into it instead of going for the most obvious joke like they usually do.
-
The choreography told a different story.
-
was not as ass-tastic as the first onehow am i supposed to masterbate to this?
-
Seems likely
-
He's been Twittering/Facebook statusing about it all weekend.
-
let's assume I don't follow anythign Fallon related.
-
from somewhere, but I'm not positive where from.
-
I would've. And no matter how much Heroes may suck or will suck, or if he will even appear next season, Quinto should get a shot at hosting.
-
How so? Other than Target lady and Barry Gibb (which is a feature because of the host), what was really a repeat?
-
t-lake has characters that work. No different than regular cast members. Not too different either than when Baldwin would repeat his Pete Schwetty or Canteen Boy sketches. JT just has more hit sketches to work with per ep.

The Digital Short was a "sequel" too, but a good one.
by flim springfield
-
but it gets me every time. And the impression is so good it almost makes up for how not good his Obama is.
-
they must tell him hes really funny. or snl is the only place where he still feels relevant or his mom keeps making him do it.
-
Lol, so far this episode is one of the best this season...
-
JT now officially joins Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin and Tom Hanks as the best SNL hosts. That was easily the best SNL in recent memory (not a hard thing to do, but still). From the opening monologue (hilarious) to the digital short, Barry Gibb talkshow, and especially weekend update with the NY governors, this episode truly had me laughing out loud the whole way thru. The only thing that would have made it better would be if Green Day had been bumped up a week. Can't wait for the finale with Ferrell.
-
I mean...it's just a TV show. Just a TV show.
-
It wouldn't have been nearly as funny without them (definitely two MILFs). I dunno; I wouldn't put Timberlake quite at Baldwin's or Walken's level, but he's getting there.
-
Um...no. Baldwin, Hanks, Walken, Martin...all those guys had careers. Timberlake has had, what, that role in the movie where Christina Ricci got nekkid? A former backstreet boy? Ashton Kutcher's best friend (although his Punk'd spoof was hilarious)? When they have a sketch where Abe Lincoln calls Timberlake a pussy, then he might rank.
-
Trust me-I am no n'sync fan, but Timberlake does in fact have a "career" He is genuinely a like able guy, and very funny as a host. Oh yeah--he is a rock solid record producer, musician , and becoming a decent actor. Personally, I would love to have Justin;s "career",anyway, I think he did a great job as host, and would love to see him host SNL once a year...
-
Also, just take a glance at all of the talkbacks that indeed decry this episode as the best of the year. Coincidence in regards to the host?? I don't think so...jerk...
-
Fucking good ep...coulda done without the STAR TREK slinging, but what the hey...
-
JT:"You know jew." AS:"There it is." The digital short was hilarious too.
-
the immigrant boat scene was by far my favorite. Timberlake is a natural at comedy, every mannerism is perfect.
-
but privately.....he'll hit that.
-
Honestly, he does nothing well (other than whore for attention). He's not funny and he can't act. He was absolutely embarrassing in Black Snake Moan and Alpha Dog. I'll never understand it.
-
The nominees are:
1) Jimmy Fallon
2) Justin Timberlake
3) Andy Samberg
Votes must be cast for the least funniest individual in history by noon on Monday. -
Fine. I'll go on the ballot. Guarantee I finish no "better" than fifth, loser. That puts me behind you in the running.
-
Anyone who puts Timberlake even in the same paragraph as Walken, Hanks, or Baldwin has officially gone full-retard.

Criticalbliss must be a miserable, miserable person
by santiagoanddunbar
Good times.
-
...none of his precious Backstreet Boys had as much success or talent as T-lake.
-
Wrong on both counts, retards. I'm sure you'll now tell us how your "dreamboat" Timberlake is "funnier" than Bill Murray and a better host than Walken, huh?
I have no problem with Timberlake being "successful"; I just am tired of hearing that he's "talented" when he's not. My only hope is that he finally makes enough money to go away. I'm tired of him ruining otherwise worthwhile endeavors with his hopeless "tee-hee, look-at-me, girly-bitch" antics.
Apparently, Shermdog takes the N'Sync side of the BSB vs. N'Sync feud that no one else IN THE WORLD even gives a fuck about.
And that's how we know you're gay. -
Well that's weird, criticalbliss uses the slang of a sixty year old, but acts like a six year old.
-
Am I allowed to provide a link to dictionary.com?
-
Justin Timberlake's mom would quit making new screen names to defend her Michael Jackson wannabe, daughter.
-
I expected more stringent retaliation from Justin's mom.
Oh, happy mother's day; I'm sorry your son is gay. -
...and it appears you can't seem to detect it.
-
Really? Perhaps you should try rereading my last post.
www.dictionary.com -
The hell?
-
I'm not a Justin Timberlake fan, wasn't a fan of NSync...but that was some funny shit last night, no matter who the host was. Maybe if you didn't know who the blonde haired dude was... you wouldn't be so hyper-critical. And pathetically homophobic.
-
That was sposed to be Timberlake & Samberg. Fallon is pretty bad. Although Barry Gibb Talkshow gets me every time.
-
...because he has me mixed up with this criticalbliss fella.
-
Shermdog, it would help if I read these "must-read" talkbacks more carefully. Sorry for putting your name in the subject/header. I meant to address criticalbliss. I apologize for that.
-
hes been in a few classic sketches, but hes in a TON of duds, too. and there is no one in the history of SNL who is worse at just staring at the cue cards for the entire sketch.Timberlake, on the other hand, is a natural. He, Baldwin, and Hanks best hosts ever. Martin and Walken, okay but FAR lower on the list.
-
Timberlake is not funny. You can see him "trying"--he's not natural whatsoever. It's uncomfortable even watching the guy. Sorry. The only thing I'll grant is that SNL has made a comeback of sorts in the past couple of years due to better writing (thankfully). However, the surprise that it can actually be funny does not mean that Timberlake is a "natural" comedian. He's a bit like Cheri Oteri in the loathable "Cheerleader" skits; it's all muppet enthusiasm--the eternally pathetic "need to please" energy, rather than the subtext and intelligence of the great comedians. The kid is paper (quilted, at that). It's basically a high school talent show and you're all fawning over something anyone could do. The quality of the current skits simply MASK Timberlake's deficiencies.
And he'll never do one skit as funny as the Baldwin boy scout bit or the Walken "Goodnight, Moon" skit because he doesn't have it in him. Never. He reads lines and giggles like a girl--that's fucking it. Timberlake doesn't have it in him. -
It bothers me because I enjoy SNL (with the exception of Samberg, who I find obnoxious and lazy--and Fallon who is too busy laughing at his "jokes" when he makes an appearance). Other than that, SNL's been enjoying a renaissance of late. So, having to sit through amateur-hour with Timberlake disappoints me to no end. Personally, I wish they'd get rid of the "guest host" thing altogether unless it's Bill Murray or one of the veterans.
But I stand by the fact that Timberlake is just a "cheerleader". -
Well why the fuck, in most instances, can't anyone else seem to do it?
-
I guarantee you that even you could be funny given the opportunity (and good material). That doesn't mean you're a comic genius; it doesn't mean you're talented. It doesn't even mean YOU are actually funny on your own. Hell, we know you. You've never been autonomously funny in your entire life.
And so we have Timberlake... -
says the guy who actually posted "a dumbass says what?" on the internet
-
What's the tally up to?
-
You said he's wack? You take it back!
-
A lot of people are given the oppurtunity and good material on SNL and can't deliver. T-lake HAS everytime. Whether it be hosting or guest appearances. I mean for christ's sakes when you've got the majority of talkbackers here praising the guy (some being admitted non-fans), y'know he's legit, because usually we don't like anything around here....ESPECIALLY when it comes to SNL. We're notoriously picky.
-
But fine. Feel free to consider him funny. Personally, I wince whenever I see him. There's something dead in the eyes. I never really see a thought process under the surface. It reminds me of when Denise Richards played a rocket scientist (in a Brosnan Bond flick).
I'll let it go, then. I'm glad people can tolerate him. I just hate seeing the "cheerleader" ruin so many things I'd otherwise like to see. -
But Timberlake and Fallon are closing the gap.
-
Yeah, Timberlake couldn't do anything as good as the Good Night, Moon skit since that was Jay Mohr on the Simpsons. Just sayin'.
-
That was the Simpsons, though I didn't realize it was actually Mohr's voiceover.
Guess I'll have to go with "Cowbell" as backup; still better than anything Timberlake has done. The Deadzone parody sketch was great too... forget the name of the actual sketch. -
The immigrants on a boat sketch would've been funnier if he didn't have to look at the camera as if to say, "Hee hee, I'm making a joke about myself." I think he can be funny, but I wish he didn't become the focus of the entire episode.Though the Trekkie jokes are some of the extreemely obvious type, Nimoy saying "dickheads" was worth it. By the way, does anyone really think that these comedy writers weren't geeky folks as kids? It's like when I watch Conan O'Brien make fun of nerds and such, as if he was never one of them.
-
May 11, 2009 8:41:37 AM CDT
I'm the last guy here who would listen to his music...
by cletus van damme
...but the guy rocks SNL. Admit it.And you can't really compare Timberlake to Walken using the Cowbell skit, because Walken had Ferrell in that one too.
-
JT is a great pop singer.... but that is ALL that is all that he is. Some are positing him as soul and funk and R&B. No.... He is whatever his paymaster's want him to be. If polka was hip, JT would be busting out a polka album.... That is how much of a true artist he is....

I don't think anyone is claiming Timberlake is a comedic genius
by santiagoanddunbar
Or a musical genius for that matter. But the guy is an incredible performer. He is so natural on stage doing anything, music, comedy, whatever. The guy is talented in that he does everything so naturally, not that he's backstage writing great skits. Also look at the incredible pieces of tail he's gone through in Hollywood. At some point you need to put jealousy aside and say hats off to you sir.
-
Seriously, I think the reason he does so well on this show is that he's got so much energy. That goes a long way considering how many people on the show just fumble half way through. I'm not going to call him a natural at comedy, its pretty easy to be funny when the audience loves you before you even get in the building. Plus I saw "The Love Guru," he was one of the low points of that mess.
-
EVERY time Timberlake comes out, no matter what the skit, you hear the shreek of all these girls. Even when a well-known celeb comes out, the girly shreeks for Justin are 10x what the audience gives to said well know celeb. Overall, Justin is likeable, but as for his music-I don't hang in gay nightclubs, so I am not familiar with it.
-
I got to give him props as he has consistently been nothing short of amazing with the SNL material he has been given..His work with Andy is very funny and his comedy timing is very good. It is hard for me to say this but I have total respect for J.T. ..He brings his A game to this show everytime he appears and the writers really seem to step up to the plate when he hosts..I've watched SNL from the first show to the present and been through the good the bad and the ugly..This show was one of the
best of the season if not the best. -
He seems totally full of himself, loves to play over the top gay guys and dress up in women's clothing, and thinks he's absolutely hilarious when he does. It was a better than average episode, but let's be realistic. How many times has he played the dancing dude in a silly costume? Then we had to sit through another Barry Gibbs Talk Show skit. They've never been very funny and neither have the Target lady skits. I'm just not nearly as impressed as some of you seem to be.
-
So My Pretty Pony is not as impressed by Timberlake as some of the others here. So what?
-
Yes, Timberlake is always solid. But this week, his only really good sketch was "Bring It On Down to Plasticville," with the MotherLovers short being, well, solid but not exactly dick in a box. The rest of the show was, whatever.
-
I get to express my opinion just like everyone else. What's your problem?
-
You're absolutely right. Timberlake isn't very funny. He's enthusiastic, energetic... that and the singing and dancing mask the fact that he's not really a good comedic talent. His abilities make him a good host, but he ain't funny.
