    My favorite argument for SNL?

    by hercules_will_die_alone

That MadTV is worse. Somehow, Hercules always uses that as a shield. That is the worst argument in the world. That's like saying broccoli tastes bad, but then someone saying that dog doo tastes worse. Yes. Of course it does. Doesn't change the fact that broccoli tastes bad.

yes the show is still on, it's an institution

    by walrusholder

it doesn't always have to be great, it matters that it stays on TV, one day it will be gone and America will be worse for it. Besides tonight I think will actually be funny and if they just dumped Keenan and got a couple of funny women the show would be much better. No matter, I still get at least one laugh out of an episode.

    by flyinhawaiian

You can compare MadTV and SNL, but not Broccoli and Dog Poop. Broccoli and Dog Poop are not in the same genre of food type, if at all. SNL and MadTV have the same target audience and have a valid argumental debate on which is better since they are both going for the same thing. So your little "that's like saying dog poo tastes worse" is completely invalid and stupid. Leave. NOW.

Very well, broccoli and lima beans. Or any two foods you hate. Don't be so fucking literal. It makes you look stupid. The argument isn't what show is better. SNL is, by far. MadTV is painful. The argument is whether SNL is still relevant, and whether there needs to be regime changes, writer or cast shake-ups, etc. FlyinHawaiian, stick to what you know. Masturbating while crying.

JT now officially joins Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin and Tom Hanks as the best SNL hosts. That was easily the best SNL in recent memory (not a hard thing to do, but still). From the opening monologue (hilarious) to the digital short, Barry Gibb talkshow, and especially weekend update with the NY governors, this episode truly had me laughing out loud the whole way thru. The only thing that would have made it better would be if Green Day had been bumped up a week. Can't wait for the finale with Ferrell.

Um...no. Baldwin, Hanks, Walken, Martin...all those guys had careers. Timberlake has had, what, that role in the movie where Christina Ricci got nekkid? A former backstreet boy? Ashton Kutcher's best friend (although his Punk'd spoof was hilarious)? When they have a sketch where Abe Lincoln calls Timberlake a pussy, then he might rank.

Trust me-I am no n'sync fan, but Timberlake does in fact have a "career" He is genuinely a like able guy, and very funny as a host. Oh yeah--he is a rock solid record producer, musician , and becoming a decent actor. Personally, I would love to have Justin;s "career",anyway, I think he did a great job as host, and would love to see him host SNL once a year...

Wrong on both counts, retards. I'm sure you'll now tell us how your "dreamboat" Timberlake is "funnier" than Bill Murray and a better host than Walken, huh?
I have no problem with Timberlake being "successful"; I just am tired of hearing that he's "talented" when he's not. My only hope is that he finally makes enough money to go away. I'm tired of him ruining otherwise worthwhile endeavors with his hopeless "tee-hee, look-at-me, girly-bitch" antics.

    Walken is HORRIBLE on SNL

    by shiftyeyeddog2

hes been in a few classic sketches, but hes in a TON of duds, too. and there is no one in the history of SNL who is worse at just staring at the cue cards for the entire sketch.Timberlake, on the other hand, is a natural. He, Baldwin, and Hanks best hosts ever. Martin and Walken, okay but FAR lower on the list.

    Are you kidding me?

    by criticalbliss

Timberlake is not funny. You can see him "trying"--he's not natural whatsoever. It's uncomfortable even watching the guy. Sorry. The only thing I'll grant is that SNL has made a comeback of sorts in the past couple of years due to better writing (thankfully). However, the surprise that it can actually be funny does not mean that Timberlake is a "natural" comedian. He's a bit like Cheri Oteri in the loathable "Cheerleader" skits; it's all muppet enthusiasm--the eternally pathetic "need to please" energy, rather than the subtext and intelligence of the great comedians. The kid is paper (quilted, at that). It's basically a high school talent show and you're all fawning over something anyone could do. The quality of the current skits simply MASK Timberlake's deficiencies.
And he'll never do one skit as funny as the Baldwin boy scout bit or the Walken "Goodnight, Moon" skit because he doesn't have it in him. Never. He reads lines and giggles like a girl--that's fucking it. Timberlake doesn't have it in him.

    For the record

    by criticalbliss

It bothers me because I enjoy SNL (with the exception of Samberg, who I find obnoxious and lazy--and Fallon who is too busy laughing at his "jokes" when he makes an appearance). Other than that, SNL's been enjoying a renaissance of late. So, having to sit through amateur-hour with Timberlake disappoints me to no end. Personally, I wish they'd get rid of the "guest host" thing altogether unless it's Bill Murray or one of the veterans.
But I stand by the fact that Timberlake is just a "cheerleader".

A lot of people are given the oppurtunity and good material on SNL and can't deliver. T-lake HAS everytime. Whether it be hosting or guest appearances. I mean for christ's sakes when you've got the majority of talkbackers here praising the guy (some being admitted non-fans), y'know he's legit, because usually we don't like anything around here....ESPECIALLY when it comes to SNL. We're notoriously picky.

But fine. Feel free to consider him funny. Personally, I wince whenever I see him. There's something dead in the eyes. I never really see a thought process under the surface. It reminds me of when Denise Richards played a rocket scientist (in a Brosnan Bond flick).
I'll let it go, then. I'm glad people can tolerate him. I just hate seeing the "cheerleader" ruin so many things I'd otherwise like to see.

    by bizarrojerry

The immigrants on a boat sketch would've been funnier if he didn't have to look at the camera as if to say, "Hee hee, I'm making a joke about myself." I think he can be funny, but I wish he didn't become the focus of the entire episode.Though the Trekkie jokes are some of the extreemely obvious type, Nimoy saying "dickheads" was worth it. By the way, does anyone really think that these comedy writers weren't geeky folks as kids? It's like when I watch Conan O'Brien make fun of nerds and such, as if he was never one of them.

Or a musical genius for that matter. But the guy is an incredible performer. He is so natural on stage doing anything, music, comedy, whatever. The guy is talented in that he does everything so naturally, not that he's backstage writing great skits. Also look at the incredible pieces of tail he's gone through in Hollywood. At some point you need to put jealousy aside and say hats off to you sir.

    by drewlicious

Seriously, I think the reason he does so well on this show is that he's got so much energy. That goes a long way considering how many people on the show just fumble half way through. I'm not going to call him a natural at comedy, its pretty easy to be funny when the audience loves you before you even get in the building. Plus I saw "The Love Guru," he was one of the low points of that mess.

    by uberman

EVERY time Timberlake comes out, no matter what the skit, you hear the shreek of all these girls. Even when a well-known celeb comes out, the girly shreeks for Justin are 10x what the audience gives to said well know celeb. Overall, Justin is likeable, but as for his music-I don't hang in gay nightclubs, so I am not familiar with it.

It is hard for me to say this but I have total respect for J.T. ..He brings his A game to this show everytime he appears and the writers really seem to step up to the plate when he hosts..I've watched SNL from the first show to the present and been through the good the bad and the ugly..This show was one of the

He seems totally full of himself, loves to play over the top gay guys and dress up in women's clothing, and thinks he's absolutely hilarious when he does. It was a better than average episode, but let's be realistic. How many times has he played the dancing dude in a silly costume? Then we had to sit through another Barry Gibbs Talk Show skit. They've never been very funny and neither have the Target lady skits. I'm just not nearly as impressed as some of you seem to be.
