Darren Lynn Bousman goes Troma with a remake of MOTHER'S DAY!

Published at:  May 08, 2009 3:30:23 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Twisted Pictures is tapping their old SAW friend and director Darren Lynn Bousman to remake Troma's '80s sicko feature MOTHER'S DAY. According to Borys Kit's story at Hollywood Reporter they seem to be updating it, taking advantage of the national headlines. Instead of a random set of rape and murder like the original this time the evil mama's house is taken and her boys are getting it back for her.

Of course the new family that moved in are the ones to feel the pain and not the bankers, but I guess you have to feel some sort of sympathy for your heroes, right?

I haven't seen the Troma movie since the glory days of USA Up All Night... in fact, I doubt I've ever seen the unedited version. What do you folks think?

The only film I can remember that I found even MORE tasteless and misogynistic than I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.

    Remakes

    by ancientromans

They need to remake USA Up All Night. We miss watching sweet movies all night with interstitial entertainment. "Tonight, Stone Cold, Delta Heat, and Johnny Handsome with special guest Lance Henriksen. Only on USA Up! All Night." We'd all tune in for that one, right? Yes. So sayeth, the Ancient Romans. USA Up All Night

    by djbmike81

Damn I miss Rhonda Shear. I loved watching that show on the weekends as a kid. They need to bring that back. I love Troma films, but I'm kinda with TomCullen. It's a sad day when Troma films start being remade. The bad acting, crappy story, and cheesy effects are what made Troma films fun for me, and with this they'll probably take all that away.

    Repo

    by series7

Was as bad they said. I didn't think it would be but it was. And Saw 3 and 4 were the worst (2 was alright though). I don't see much good coming from this man.

Repo was one of the worst pieces of shit...

    by lenny nero

...in a very long time. It is EXTREMELY difficult to make me hate a musical, but Bousman found a way.

    Remaking Troma Movies

    by cinemanimetal

If Lloyd Kaufman makes some money off of this remake then I'm ok with it. Anything that goes towards a new Lloyd Kaufman directed Troma movie is fine with me. Now just imagine if they made a big budget Toxic Avenger remake! That actually would sort of be awesome just at the sheer unbelievability of that ever happening. I suppose there was a time where Toxie was a Saturday morning cartoon hero (I should know as I was a kid at the time) so anything is possible. Also speaking of USA that was my first introduction to the Toxic Avenger movies so good for them.

Luckily, I hit the screening before all of the cosplay turds showed up. But any way you slice it, that movie was a steaming pile.
And Speaking of USA Up All Night, does anyone else remember Night Flight and/or Commander USA's Groovy Movie's? Damn, USA did some cool shit back in the day...

As long as Lloyd and Troma get a nice bit of money for this I'm happy especially considering the hard times Troma have been going through. Their next film is Toxie 5 so hopefully this money will go towards it.

The Toxic Avenger is one of the few films I would like to see as a big budget remake. Of course it would be PC but at least we would get to see Toxie with KNB makeup (or the like) and that would be enough for me.

    Queenie

    by bjird

I wonder if she has any presence in this new one, or not. That last scene, where she jumps out.. still one of the freakiest b-movie endings ever.

I saw mothers day in the movies when it came out

    by eyegore

My mom said it was really scary funny and I had to see it. I was about 12 years old. It was good, and one of the earlier 80's low budget horror flicks. My parents took me to see the original last house on the left when I was 7 years old. I turned out okay.

    I love the original

This movie is a real classic. I doubt they can improve on it. I always wanted to see a sequel to it. Queenie was scary.
