‘There's Girls In There!!’ Penultimate OFFICE!!

Published at:  May 07, 2009 10:02:11 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

For those who haven’t heard, NBC announced Tuesday that “Office” writer-producer-performer Mindy Kaling, who plays horny customer service rep Kelly Kapoor, will be developing a new sitcom she would write, produce and star in -- even as she continues her “Office” duties next season.

Last week saw the revelation of Meredith’s privates and Ryan demoted back to intern, in that order.

This week:
CAFÉ DISCO
Written by Warren Lieberstein and Halsted Sullivan.
Michael enters the cafe-disco business. Meanwhile, Pam and Jim decide to take a secret trip.

Next week’s season finale:
COMPANY PICNIC
Written by Jen Celotta and Paul Lieberstein
It’s the annual Dunder Mifflin company picnic and Michael and Holly are reunited, and Michael has some big plans for her. Meanwhile, the office competes in the picnic’s volleyball tournament.

Mike Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly says to expect a big finale twist that will echo into season six.

Holly will attend the picnic with her new boyfriend in tow.

Despite the promos that suggest Jim & Pam will be married this week, fans should expect them to tie the knot this fall.

Scenes deleted from last week’s “Casual Friday”:

Well, hopefully "The Office" will not suffer from Kaling's choices, and I wish her the best. I love the Writer/Actors on the show and think they are what seperates "The Office" from other shows on "nowadays," so best of luck to her anf I will watch whatever she decides to follow the historic(ish) "Office" with provided it's not too, for lack of a better term, gay.

    "Horny?"

    by dollar bird

Really, Herc? You could have picked hundreds of adjectives to describe Kelly Kapoor and you went with "horny?" The fact that she has desired relationships with two characters on the show does not equal horny, I would think. (Perhaps you just have a secret crush on her and your view of a person who will fake a pregnancy to keep a guy equals horniness.) C'mon, man—insipid, yes; trite, yes; overly-sensitive, yes; manipulative, yes; solopsistic, yes; but not horny. I don't even know why I'm getting all bent out of shape over this (maybe I have the secret crush)—but really? Horny? I would have thought with your desire to use such 10¢ words like "antepenultimate," you could have done better.

but man, comedy is subjective. The Office is the only one on your list that I would even consider consistently funny. 30 Rock has it's moments, and when it's on it's pretty damn funny But the rest, to me, are mildly humorous on their best days (and I'm being kind in regards to some of them)

What is so stupid about wanting to name a baby Usher? Usher Jennifer Hudson Kapoor.

I am genuinely puzzled by people who think 30 Rock is worse than The Office though. Usually when people say that a bad episode of a certain tv show is still better than most everything else that's on, like when The Simpsons first began to show signs of illness, I don't think it's actually true - but with 30 Rock I really do laugh constantly through even a bottom-of-the-barrel episode.

I don't look forward to this show like i use to, waaay to soap-opera for me now. It's not stand-alone funny any longer and frankly it sucks ass. When's the baby coming?? Oh wait, we already had one of those -- check that shit off the list. I mean, why have Pam leave to begin with last season, terrible writing that did NOT pay off. Why have Micheal quit = terrible, Dwight+blonde = terrible, other dude + blonde = terrible. Too serious for a comedy. The equally shitty Park and Rec is ALREADY following the same path. Who gives a SHIT about the f'ing HOLE!!! Why is this the motivation? Two more seasons and both of these series are done.

That would have floored me just because his character got such a moving send off in the first place. Seeing Dr. Hooch at the end was pretty funny, though. Also funny, the fact that in the future Turk and JD's kids getting married excites them more than the kids. Hands down the sweetest yet strangely disturbing bromance in history.

and what's your goal when you say "Two more seasons and both of these series are done". is that supposed to be like a negative thing? that would put the office at 7 seasons and parks and rec at 3........how is that bad? in this day and age any show that can get for a second season is impressive

I can only shake my head in shame and disappointment whenever a talkbacker tears down The Office, and in the next breath praises schlocky crap like Scrubs or 30 Rock. I just don't get it. by captainaxis

Who started this line of horseshit, anyway? I love that The Office isn't afraid to actually develop its characters, rather than staying inside the "sitcom box" and going for the cheap easy laughs like 30 Rock (look, he's playing the race card! AND IT'S A REAL CARD! HAHAHAHA, fuck off) and Scrubs. I used to hate when sitcoms got serious, because it was usually done in a preachy way to teach the audience a moral lesson. That's not what The Office does; they use the dramatic moments to flesh out the characters and that should be applauded, not dumped on.

Jesus Christ, Henry. You fucking people perplex the shit out of me.

I am sorry anyone who does not find the first 6 seasons of Scrubs, insanely well written and funny must not have a funny bone in there body. There are more Laugh out loud Moments in Scrubs, 30 Rock, and the Office then there are in the entire history of SNL.

What is it you hate about Scrubs? To say it does not develop characters, and goes for cheap easy laughs is bullshit. There are more character defining moments on that show then you get in a entire season of ER. I get if you don't like it's style of comedy but there is more too it then you give it credit for.

And you just lost all judging capacity to me when you said SNL hasn't had more LOL moments than those other shows. There's a couple of 5-10 year spans that are pretty much the inspiration for any comedy you see now -- Murray, Chase, Short, Martin, Aykroyd, Belushi (I could go on for a while) they WHERE(sic) that funny.PS - I love Scrubs and the Office too, so I'm not just a hater.

The reason I used SNL is because it's been on forever. Of course back in the day it was funny. The first couple of seasons and stuff with Murphy, Carvey, Sandler and Farley where great too. But i would not say it is constantly funny, Scrubs(for about 6 season was constantly funny) The Office and 30 Rock make me laugh every episode still.

Sorry to see this great show finish, and the ending basically showcased what was at the heart of this comedy. It had it's share of sad moments and laugh out loud funny bits. I agree with Skimn and Drewlicious, a true great ending to a great comedy. It had it's low points with season 6 and 7, but it bounced back because the writers wanted to go back to it's roots.

Great show, great supporting cast, bring on the Scrubs love.

    by captainaxis

Much like 30 Rock, I find it too over-the-top and silly. I readily admit I haven't seen enough of the show to judge its character development, but every time I've seen it, Scrubs and 30 Rock both rely too much on sight gags, obvious puns, and jokes where the characters literally wink at the audience and/or are aware they're on a TV show. That sort of thing is cute once in a while, but both shows seem to beat that shit to death from what I've seen.

    by prior walter

I must have missed that. I'd say most of the "drama" happened prior to this season, anyway. And this season has been dAWESOME. Season 4 was utter shit, other than the Dinner Party episode, so people complaining about this season makes no sense, especially considering it has brought us some of the best episodes of the series.

    Funny and Not Funny

    by raromo

Even as someone who loves The Office, I admit it was starting to go downhill, but bringing in the guy from The Wire really reinvigorated it. There were some great laughs this season. Parks and Recreation? Amy mugs too much, and the other characters aren't that interesting. The great power of The Office is that Michael doesn't realize he's in a comedy. The great flaw of Parks and Recreation is that Amy's character is way too aware she's appearing in a comedy. The show is still young, so I hope it improves. 30 Rock? It's fucking funny, but because there are no serious moments (like there are on The Office), I don't care if any of the characters live or die. Put all the characters in a blender, and I'll just roll over in my sleep, dreaming about the wonderful cup of hot coffee I'm going to have in a few hours. The Office is great TV. 30 Rock is a funny Saturday morning cartoon. Parks and Recreation is a nerdy freshman with black-framed eyeglasses and a zit in the middle of his forehead you want to slap across the face and say, Stop raising up your arms in a Nixon impersonation! Be more subtle. Do you really have that much contempt for your audience? Do you really think you're that cool? You're not.

    by holy hell

its first few seasons. The last few have been really, really lame. Nobody grew up, ever, nobody's sense of humor matured, the recent, Eliot-JD relationship arc has been really unappealing and childish, blah blah blah. The promise of it's early years collapsed under it's really heavy handed emo sincerity vibe it's been force-feeding us for the last few years. The finale was excrutiatingly self-important and indulgent in my opinion. I'm glad it's going (probably) and I don't have to consider it's agonizing decline anymore.

You nailed it. I've never rooted for a sitcom character like I did before the Michael Scott Paper Company went into the meeting with David and Charles. I was certain he'd fuck it up somehow, and I actually felt relieved when he didn't. That's pretty big for a sitcom.

    by saintsaucey

Here we go. New Office in less than a minute.

Wow that was actually pretty damn funny of Dwight. Jim and Pam are totally not meeting with their Contracter.

I will take your scilence to mean you are all hiding something. Pam you always look cute no matter when it is. You've got to keep your self dehydrated. I have figured out what is up your butts. Funk is the problem and the solution.
OMG poor Phyllis. One she just hurt her back and two I am pretty sure that Bob Vance is cheating on her.

I think they could totally do a spin of the Office called Cafe Disco if they decorated the room really well and had just one to three main characters for that series and had people from the Dundermifflin and Vance Refriggeration and the cleaning crew and the ware house guest star as frequinters of Cafe Disco.

I don't know if it was coreographed or if he did it him his self but Andy is a pretty awesome dancer.

Awe no Eloping for Jim and Pam.

That was totally the Gay ear she was piercing.
I would seriously enjoy a spin off all about Cafe Disco. I know just how to decorate it too.

That one little Shower area would be enclosed in a glass shower stall with a girl in a bathing suit dancing in there all day. Paint the room a different collar and then have three white leather couches on the walls . regular sized disco ball in the center of the room. Snack bar with a pizza oven and polish sausage rotisery and foutain drinks along with the expresso and cookies and scones and stuff. Have two or three people that run the place not counting shower girl then feature the other members of scranton business park like people from the Dunder Mifflin ware house and people from Bob Vance's office plus Kevin's gf and some people she works with. Erin from The Office could be a Staple since she is new to the office and probably doesn't get paid much. Kevin and Kelly could be in it a lot as well since they don't get near enough screen time.

    Office

    by holy hell

was wonderful last night. One of the top five half-hours of all time (the show in general, not that ep in particular). 30 Rock has a really fun delirious quality that i dig right after the tender silliness of the office. Parks an Rec was better than fine (certainly better than Scrubs, Kath and Kim, or BoT), and Earl, while perhaps the weakest of the lineup (they should've gotten some douchey Jeraldo impersonator rather than the man himself) is stlll smarter than just about any other half-hour on broadcast TV. I'm looking forward to Community a great deal, though. I got my fingers crossed for Chevy...

    by haggardatbest

and you looked amazing in that dress, but Kelly Kapoor makes my heart pound. And she is STILL the most reliably funny character on the show.

Jim and Pam have become unnecessary.

    by rbatty024

Whenever a couple gets together in TV shows they always become less interesting. The same is true for Jim and Pam. Luckily, the rest of the cast has been brilliant in picking up the slack. This was a generally fun episode.

Andy's dance scenes were making me crack the fuck up! "I think I'm officially in a dance off."

    Dance-off

    by haggardatbest

Andy has probably waited for years to be challenged to a dance-off. Kelly, on the other hand, has left many chumps in the dust with that Flashdance move.

    Great episode...

    by philvis

Last night's episode was one of my favorites of the season, if not my favorite. It was just flat out zaniness like the show used to be. Michael Scott was in rare form. Typically he is annoying to no end, but not last night. I'd give it an A+.

Seriously, if you think season 5 has just been chock full of lols then I'm nearly certain at least 50% of the jokes from seasons 1-3 went over your head.
