The GIVE 'EM HELL MALONE Cannes trailer gives us noir, blood, nudity, Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I was given the heads up on this by the good folks working on the picture, in particular Mr. Tim Bradstreet who has been trying to woo me since I was a young man roaming the halls of the San Diego Comic-Con .
Bradstreet has made a name for himself as a brilliant artist and has been working closely with Thomas Jane, edging into the talking pictures a bit. He asked if I'd like to debut the Cannes trailer for GIVE 'EM HELL MALONE, starring Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames, written by Mark Hosack (who also cut the trailer... I think he may be a geek... because that temp music in the middle might ignite some recognition among our readers) and directed by HIGHLANDER's own Russell Mulcahey.
Expect to read some chats with Jane and possibly Mulcahey about this flick in the near future.
Personally I dig the look of this world. It feels like something that'd hit in the '80s, a low-budget grit and blood flick that doesn't sacrifice production value. I love that every face you see in the movie is familiar, a cast filled with character actors.

and the side boobage is weak...you can't really call that nudity. a skimpy bikini would be better. Anyway it is just a montage trailer and suggests little nothing about how good the movie will be.

still "nudity" is overstating it for a headline if we don't get any nip, but you did explain it properly in the article. But this reminds me of Out of Sight for some reason and not sure if it is just because Ving Rhames is in both...looks a bit derivative but at least not Hollwyood cookie cutter.

He makes one great movie (highlander) then proceeds to make 20 years of complete garbage...His Residence Evil movie was a complete sloppy mess - and not because of the low budget. If this turns out to be more then just a cool trailer I'll be rendered speechless...how do you forget how to make good movies for 20 years then suddenly oh yeah! I forgot! That's how its done! Duh!

It's nice to see filmmakers havn't forgotten about them. They were great. They still are, even though Mark Sandman is dead. Anyone who hasn't heard them, you should check them out.

I am a die-hard pulp fiction/film noir buff, and I really dig Thomas Jane. I agree with you, Playkins, Jane keeps missing the A-list he deserves to be on. Sadly, I doubt this movie is going to get him any closer to that. I love the whole vibe of this flick, right down to the title font that looks like it came right off a dime store pulp novel -- it shows a love and understanding for the genre that most directors / producers / studios just don't get, or are simply afraid to fully embrace. BUT -- I do not see this dirtly little gem finding a large audience by any stretch of the imagination. I'm wondering (Quint, do you know) does this even have distribution, or is that most likely what they're hoping to land at Cannes? Honestely, I can see this going straight to DVD -- and don't get me wrong -- I think that'd be a fuckin' crime. (pardon the pun)

Just to clarify, GEHM takes place in a fictional, out-of-time, nameless city environment where styles from the 40's to the 70's and beyond create a texture for the noir universe this film lives in. @ BanditDarville - That's French Stewart in the trunk. He's really excellent in this. Glad a good portion of you all are digging this. Keep an open mind. It's a scream. And Ving Rhames soul in a case? Hadn't heard that one before. Cheers

The soul in the case was a theory many people had for pulp fiction. People thoerize that Brett and his buddies worked for the devil, backed out on their end of the deal and vincent and jules came to collect back his soul.

Do most the people who bash this trailer have no grasp on the Noir style... "The acting is terrible" Maybe its just the different style of dialogue that most people stuck on Hollywoods balls don't get. Does it look cheap- It looks gritty. Movie looks fucking sick though. I can't wait.

Why couldn't you have had a hand in preventing the rape of the Punisher sequel? I'm sure it's not your fault,just thought i'd ask cause that movie pissed me off.On a side note, Tom Jane is a bad ass. He was really great in Thursday,The Mist,Punisher, and Stander. His nude scene in Stander was fucked up though. If you're reading this Tom, you didn't have to show every one your cock and balls man. As long as this movie doesn't involve a close up of Tom Jane's meat i'll see it.

As of now the trailer is trying too fucking hard to tell me it's cool and that's always troubling. Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled never carried himself as if he were a badass and I have yet to watch an action movie with a bigger or better hero than Tequila.

Give Em Hell Malone looks like a Madtv sketch compared to that other noir film coming out soon. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in seeing this but the trailer didn't floor me like The Perfect Sleep did. That movie looks fantastic and best of all, it didn't try to sell me on the badassness of its protagonist. It was a slow burn approach, only showing him attack in brief flashes, and it made the protagonist seem all the more interesting for it.

No problem. It's like the director took the cinematography from Road To Perdition and married it with Johnny To's approach to gangland violence. For some reason the trailer reminds me of A HERO NEVER DIES, and if you looking for proper noir influences to build a film around, that's a very good place to go. It's a goddamn masterpiece.
