Dom DeLuise1933 - 2009
Beaks here...
This is the only time I've failed to smile at the thought of Dom DeLuise. Since Mr. DeLuise probably wouldn't want it that way, let's do this...
That's a great scene on its own, but it plays even better in the context of the film. For eighty minutes, Mel Brooks has been throwing everything at the audience: fart jokes, sex jokes, wildly inappropriate racial jokes... he's even scored with a rape joke! But just when it appears that the film is going to devolve into a wild brawl between the townspeople and Harvey Korman's thugs, DeLuise unexpectedly shows up as catty musical director Buddy Bizarre, and he fucking kills!
That's what DeLuise did. He made every movie funnier just by stepping in front of the camera. Starting with his uproarious performance as an inept spy in Frank Tashlin's THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT, DeLuise was one of Hollywood's most reliably funny actors; whether cast in a substantial role or utilized as a walk-on scene-stealer, he was going to make you laugh one way or another. List the movies, and I'm sure you can think of one quintessential DeLuise bit: THE TWELVE CHAIRS, SILENT MOVIE, HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I, HOT STUFF, THE END, THE MUPPET MOVIE, WHOLLY MOSES!, FATSO, JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY... they weren't all classics, but DeLuise's antics elevated every single one of them.
And then there was his turn as Victor Prinzim in the Hal Needham's all-star comedy smash-up, THE CANNONBALL RUN. I was eight years old when I saw this movie in the theater, and for some inexplicable reason, whenever Victor transformed into "Captain Chaos", I was in hysterics. I mean, there was no bit there: it was just a happy, rotund fella donning tights and beating up bad guys. And yet I doubt I have ever laughed harder in my life. So for that, Mr. DeLuise, I'd like to thank you.
What were your favorite DeLuise moments?

Sad, sad news...
-
was as Caesar in History of the World Part I. Great movie, great scene, great guy. This is truly bumming news.
-
Not only will I miss you, but I'll also miss ... HIM.
-
Sexiest most hilarious fat old lady to ever grace a gene widler movie. But seriously such a cool guy. I hope whatever network that holds the rights does a marathon of his cooking show. Yeah he was in terrible shape for them but he was also really damn funny.

Sucks. I always liked him as the Pope in J Dangerously
by doctorzoidberg
-
Those bloopers at the end of Cannonball Run left me in tears everytime. I also was around eight years old when the movie came out and must have watched it 100 times when we finally got a beta tape recorder. Those were the days. Thank you Dom.
-
Rest in peace, buddy. Real shame. Very funny guy.
-
if you see Brad Renfro,PLEASE kick him in the balls for me
-
The world is now less funny.
-
Buddy Bizzarre, super guy.
-
The End with Burt Reynolds. You're right though, he made any movie funnier just by showing up.
-
Aunt Kate: Wait! Oh, wait. Before this moment is over, I want to say that this house has been under a cloud of darkness for so many years. And now, at last, the cloud has pissed.
-
That makes me cry with laughter
-
He was a great chef.
-
forgot about that one! I piss myself when he points to Dirty Ezio and imitates him laughing without a tongue. I wonder if her improvised that.
-
That just sucks.
-
Da da da!!!
Captain Chaos!!!!!
Loved that guy,I'll miss him. -
Any of the clips you can watch will make you laugh til you cry. I just watched Dom and Johnny Carson having an egg fight and I was rolling. RIP Captain Chaos! Dum Dum Dum!!
-
It wasnt a funny scene,..but he was excellent there.
Night man,,,,hope there's home cookin' where your going. -
Ya, those bloopers were great... I think the only time that format has worked in on CBR... and perhaps Toy Story too.
Funny, as a kid I used to get DeLuise and Jonathan Winters mixed up... two jolly fat guys that would appear on late night looked the same to a 6 year old I guess. -
What a class act....It was all about fun. The way he could crack up old Burt was amazing....
-
Crap, Orcus loved this guy. Orcus thinks there is a Quickening thing going on with Abe Vigoda playing the Kurgan (sp?)
-
What a shame.
-
We've lost a legend.
-
Guy was great. I always think of Chris Farley doing an impression of him with Carvey as Carson and Hartman as Reynolds. He comes up and hits the pantsless duo during a drunken Tonight Show bit with a pair of pies in the crotch. Then he wets himself from laughing so hard.
-
I know that one of you is a werewolf!
-
Dark Knight sucked balls
-
Between Dom and Jerry Reed both passing I'm seriously worried about Burt Reynolds. He was close to both of those guys and he seems to be out living all of his old buddies. Fucking sucks. The afterlife just got alot funnier.
-
People die. That's life. Besides, non of these guys were very good at their craft.
-
Those are the roles I associate him with most. That and the Agent in the Muppet Movie. "Read my lips: Hooowleeewood."
-
the world just got quieter.
-
Blazing Saddles....Pizza The Hutt..etc etc etc, his work with Mel Brooks is legend.
-
like 10 years ago. That's too bad. That clip hasn't aged well.
-
Such a sad piece of news. Whatever he was in, he was always good - man, his Capt. Chaos will stay with me forever!! Hope they got good food in Heaven or Dom'll be pissed! Sleep well, big fella.
-
I agree. Lets celebrate life! Is Christopher Reeve still around?
-
I eat a shitload of lard everyday but im funny
-
I bet no one would have cared if Dom was a black man.
-
Ugh. Yes Sire!!!
-
Oh, do it to me, DO IT!!!
-
Very sad.
-
Heath Ledger, not Dom.
-
"A flame about this high." I always loved him in Cannonball Run, especially the blooper reel during the credits, and obviously as Ceasar in HOTWP1. But my favorite movie of his will always be Hot Stuff. Just a good natured, funny film. No nastiness to it at all. I asked this when Jerry Reed died and I'll ask it again now, why isn't Hot Stuff out on DVD yet.
-
One of the all time best cartoon vocal performances.
-
I think one of my favorite scene is absolutely the Caesar scene in History Of The World Part I. Easily one of the funniest scenes ever. Alot of people love to talk about his films with Burt Reynolds and there were a bunch of great ones there. But one of the funniest films I remember with him was Hot Stuff with Jerry Reed, Suzanne Pleschette and Ozzie Davis. Such a funny movie. He will be missed for sure.

"History of the World Part I" was a cornerstone of my childhood.
by themikejonas
Well, my movie-watching childhood anyway. And now two scenestealers from that movie--DeLuise and Bea Arthur--are gone in the span of a few days....RIP.
-
However, I always enjoyed him in voice-over work as well. He will always be synonymous with the Don Bluth films I watched as a kid like the Secret of NIHM and An American Tail. He was an amazing talent overall. RIP Dom.
-
Am I not speaking the truth here?
-
it gets you in the end
-
Guy payed for my meal and his three. Nice chap. Men in Tights.
-
Dom was never as funny as Belushi or Farley.

Actor dies people cry, child dies lifetime potential lost.
by evilwizardglick
Children die everyday. All that lost potential gone. No medical or scientific breakthroughs from them. No poetry, movies or songs.
No one cares.
An actor dies everybody gets teary eyed.
I don't get it.
Many if not all those children could be saved. Saved from disease, war, and hunger.
Where are their tears? -
I bet Dom could stimulate the hell out of a prostate
-
He will be sorely sorely missed.
-
Stop bringing everyone down. Who cares about the children when you got blu-ray
-
Dude, seriously? You're a tool. Nobody cares what you think. Please refrain from commenting in this thread. You're hideous, kill yourself.
-
I also loved him in Fatso. Another funny flick.
-
he did great voice work.. loved him in secret of nimh.
-
Rest in peace, funnyman. I've been using his deadpan reaction to what's under the sheet ("Nice....nice. Not thrilling, but nice.") in regular conversation for 20 years. A genuinely hilarious actor; I miss him already.
-
RIP Dom.
-
Very sad :( RIP. "Is he a good Don, like Don DeLuise?"
-
I thought his best movie was "The End" with Burt Reynolds. He was great as the homicidal lunatic (wish the pic was available in 16x9 widescreen DVD instead of that crappy fullscreen version).
-
and I still think that Evil Wizard is a douche.

"I wanna live!"I wanna experience the universe! And I wanna eat
by johnny smith
RIP.
-
There should have been a movie starring Dom and James CoCo - I liked James, but LOVED Dom. You can spot a warm soul in some people and he radiated kindness and joy. I really will will you.
-
Wow, buy the chinese version of CRun and turn the audio to english and the subtitles to english. Two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT movies.
-
in Best Little Whorehouse... waaaagh!... i loved that as a kid. Indelible memory!
-
we'll miss ya.
-
Always thought 'The End' was really underated; great performances by both Dom and Burt. That's my favorite.
-
The man was a legend, he will be missed. DUN DUN DERRR!
-
"I wanna live! I wanna experience the universe! And I wanna eat pie!" There's the full quote.
-
Love FATSO, as well as all of his work with Mel Brooks, and "The End". Oh yeah, and the blooper reels after the two Cannonball Run movies. Dean to Sammy: "These Rosary bleeds?" We'll miss ya, Paisan!
-
Why does Glovedone ONLY post in obit talkbacks? He's quite the odd duck in this pond.
-
We had lots of fun with you.
I just remember that he even was a guest star in one episode of Stargate SG1 (Obviously a favour for his son, who was a director/producer of it.). Neither his best role nor a very memorable episode of that show, but it was still a lot of fun to watch him. -
This isn't the time or place to be saying things like that. Dom de Luise brought happiness to a lot of people and will be missed. There's nothing wrong with stating your opinion, but please, not in a place where people are already paying respect to one of the greats.
-
The amount of fun had on movie sets with Dom and Burt Reynolds must have been legendary.
You will be missed, sir. -
No sense ripping into that one, damned-dirty-ape, he'll never understand.
-
It was just yesturday I checked up on his IMDb page to see what he was up to. This news saddenes me, I'v blogged about my thoughts:
http://flaglima.com/?p=1060 -
RIP Dom you always made me laugh.
One of my favorite lines "I saved that womans dog" Captain Chaos -
Another Mel Brooks regular gone! I was hoping Dom, Gene Wilder, and Brooks would get together for one last movie. Call the movie 'Fuck It!'. No editing, advertise heavily, and use every non-pc gag in the arsenal. Coming this Christmas to a theater near you...Mel Brooks wants to just say 'Fuck It!'. Rated PG-13 for language and gratuitous nudity.
-
...so long big guy and thanks for the many, many laughs. Dam, I'm totally bummed out now. God speed Dom.
-
"Barf...Puke...Whatever!"
-
RIP Dom. You brought many laughs to me, my friends, and my family. You shall be missed.
-
Nevertheless, RIP DD
-
shit, that's depressing. RIP Captain!
-
Are lower than fucking low.
-
I remember when he co-hosted the Mike Douglas show for a week on a river cruise ship.
-
The most prime example I can think of here is James Doohan. I remember when he died and almost every senior engineer working at NASA said "Mr. Scott is why I do what I do." Sure not every actor has the same inspirational or emotional impact, and while it is sad that young children die every day before reaching their full potential, these are people who may have made a large difference in peoples lives. When Stan Winston died I damn near broke down in tears and took me a good 30 minutes to find out why. The man's work shaped my childhood.
-
Saw History of the World with my Dad (when I was at that age when sons rebel and Dads get stressed). We both HOWLED at DeLuise's work... And started to realize that we still got along. Thanks for that moment and RIP...
-
You may not have had the lasting impact that others have had on my life, but you were still a class act and a funny man.
-
Made me laugh in everthing he was in, sad day indeed.
-
Was his first regular TV gig, on the old Gary Moore Show. His big catchphrase from that character: "No applausa please, sav'a for da end!" I'll miss you, big guy.
-
...but lets be honest. He wasn't that funny or influential and I actually thought he was already dead. Still, Chris Farley did a great job spoofing him on SNL back in the day.
-
That is actually the one the line he said that I laughed the most over, and that was while he was a cartoon cat (which may have made it even more funny).
-
We were thrilled to have you Dom, RIP.
-
To pick up on your comment, and to respond to EvilWizard, if we grieved for every child, every accident victim, every death...we would be unable to function, overcome with emotional grief. People share a common bond with entertainers, who have made them laugh, cry, whatever. And in remembering them upon passing, we recognize that bond, and grieve a bit, to release a little for all those we do not grieve for.
-
If you can track this all-but-forgotten Reynolds/Field comedy down, Deluise has a schizophrenic scene that's one of the greatest comic performances on film.
-

"Did you see that cat out there? All drippin', and, and WET..."
by nasty in the pasty
"...with WATER?"DeLuise's vocal performance as Jeremy the crow is an integral part of my adolescence. How sad that he'll never get his "Sparkly" now. :(
-
In every movie he was basically Dom DeLuise. The thing is that in every movie he was perfect. He was cast because when you had him in your movie you knew exactly what you would get, and you cast him because he was the only person for the role. He was a unique talent, and he killed every time, especially in his 70's and early 80's work.
-
RIP Dom.
-
Dom DeLuise now joins Anne Bancroft, Madeline Khan, George Burns, Gilda Radner, John Belushi and Richard Pryor.
....and God has front row frickin' seats every night. -
May 05, 2009 4:21:53 PM CDT
I was just thinking about Dom Deluise. Oddly enough..
by cotton mcknight
while watching the Golden Girls. Dorothy mentioned him, and I thought, "haven't heard from him in awhile. Wonder how he's doing". He will definitely be missed.
-
The Cannonball Run is my favourite Dom performance just for the sheer lunacy of Captain Chaos. I know there's a substantial blooper reel over the credits but how they got ANY scenes done with DeLuise is a mystery. He doesn't even have to say a word and I laugh at him. God rest your soul Dom. Da-da-daaa
-
Thanks for all the movies and food. Now please make everyone laugh in the after life.
-
A fine movie.
-
You know he's been on my mind a lot for the past 2 years. I keep thinking why isn't he making movies, both him and Gene Wilder. Very sad to hear this. He was such a funny guy and a big sweet hearted man. I'm going to watch Secret of The Nimh in his honor tonight.

and dedicate to Dom DeLuise cause he was fk'ing legend..... those out takes at the end are awesome you can actually see them enjoying it, mr bale my fellow welshman you could learn a lot from this dude
-
Burt Reynolds laugh in outtakes, and the mental patient trying to help Burt commit suicide in "The End." Hilarious performer. Peace to him and condolences to his family.

RIP, Big Guy!

They should remake cannonball run and all the cars are CGI
by orionsangels
Only the actors are real and it could be like a spiritual sequel to the wildly popular speed racer. Actually they should just use the actors heads and CG bodies. No one wants anything organic these days. It has to be digital!
-
Dom DeLuise may not be worth a kind word from you...but let me tell ya; your precious "kids" don't mean FUCK to me. Unless they get posted on the side of a milk carton I'll never notice them, and even then I'll just assume it was a case of darwinism at work. Your kids never made me laugh, or brightened my day one bit like this guy did, in fact they are probably a drain on my pocketbook as they are just as likely to end up a rapist, thief or politican than they are a productive citizen. Let me know me when your precious "Kids" do something that betters my day...maybe THEN I'll say a kind word about them when they kick off.
-
damn. why the hell is Reynolds slapping Dom for? Geeze, what an ass.
-
May 05, 2009 5:08:12 PM CDT
That's a loving slap. It's like when Abbott would slap Costello
by orionsangels
It's a comedy routine between the fat and skinny guy. It would actually make Dom laugh more when Burt would playfully slap him.

I will never forget his voicework in The Secret of N.I.M.H.
by ironhelix
I was a little old for it, but i can distinctly remember my brother watching it every day for almost 2 years. Forever imprinted on my memory. RIP.
-
"Why don't we all drink..some very sexy wiiiiiine". The scene with him and Leo Mckern is just great. R.I.P Dom.
-
Check out this Deluise-directed flick from 1979. Hard to find but an HBO staple for a few years.
-
been watching the dvds of the old Muppet shows with my daughter. Grew up on that stuff, along with remembering Cannonball Run, The End (vaguely), and other Mel Brooks stuff. But damn, Dom was funny. Ledergrant, that was a really great post. Don't make me cry, fucker!
-
The 12 chairs. Goodbye Mr Dom.
-
Rest in Peace.
-
I watched the cannonball movies repeatedly as a child and still love his scenes. Endlessly quotable.
"have no fear....Chaos is here!" -
... I watched him, in anything he did, a smile would cross my face. Sadly now, for today, that smile is gone! A Great One has passed.
-
Thats all need be said.
-
He was always funny, but the scene when he gets stoned in "Hot Stuff" is great, though I doubt that many people saw that movie. I met his once at a video convention. Friendliest celebrity I ever met. Today is a total bummer.
-
I love the scene in Canonball Run where he and Burt crash their boat. As Dom sits in the ambulance with a splint on his index finger, Burt asks if Dom if it hurts.
"Only when I point." Retorts Dom.
Very funny shit. -
Your father was an extroardinary man/human being...and that continues in his spirit, his extraodinary nature. I grew-up in the industry, and people have reputations. Your father was a good man, I know this as I would have heard differently if this were not true. He raised a wonderful family, and your success is his success...but what is most important, is not his career, or yours, but the success of good character. Your father was a genius, yes, but more impressive was the fact that he was a good man, and that is his greatest legacy, besides his wife, his kids, and his grandchildren--although he would argue, I'm sure, that the latter 3 are his greatest legacy, and I am certain he would be correct. I'm wish you a peaceful journey, Dom!!!
-
To me this and Pizza the Hut are the memories I have of Dom. He was always more a voice then a face to me. Sad I just watched him in Men in Tights over the weekend and my wife asked me if he was dead and I quickly answered NO! well now he's gone, sad day
-
Victah of course I remember that scene and I am not the only one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8bextcivUw When he is snorting like the bull with the horns in the background was classic.
-
I enjoyed heck outta him in Blazing Saddles too! Captain CHAOS!! dah dah dah!!!!!!!! all three of those are fun times. Nice obit.

What a hilarious soul. His role as Jeremy in The Secret of Nimh is one of my all time favorite cartoon characters. Keep 'em laughin' in heaven Dom.

Hot Stuff is a great movie that nobody seems to have seen! -
just by popping up in stuff and being hilarious. RIP Dom.
-
SECRETS OF THE NIMH, AN AMERICAN TALE, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN...these movies shaped my childhood, and fed into my imagination. Sorry to hear the big lug go...we'll miss you.

i hated the cannonball movies...except for his roles, which were genius and there isnt a tonite show appearance that isnt a classic many have been critical about his appearance in the 12 chairs, but i think its classic comedy at its best truly a sad day...really wish he had gotten his weight under control...he shoulda lived to 100 i have a feeling that reynolds is pretty bummed out right now...and all my sympathies to mr deloise's family

the dead will walk the earth. Just sayin'. Oh, and Abe Vigoda laughs at you all!
-
He will be one of the all-time great comedians ever. Ever!! Like most everyone else here, I practically grew up in front of the TV. "Hot Stuff," "Smokey and the Bandit II" and the "Cannonball" films were simply staples of growing up with HBO in the 80's. His impressive body of cameos in other films are little nuggets of goodness that I will treasure forever. Be sure to catch "Fatso" if you haven't already. Bittersweet and quotable at the same time. He should have been nominated for an Oscar on that one. We have lost one of the greats today. Respect forever, Dom!!

pretty funny shit -
Loved him. Thanks for the great article Beaks.
Besides Blazing Saddles and several others you mentioned, my favorite has to be his movie-stealing scene from Robin Hood: Men in Tights where he sends up Marlon Brando's god father like no one else ever has. Hilarious.
I miss the man already -
But he was great in everything he did. For some reason I thought he had already passed though, so it isn't hitting me as hard as it would. REgardless, he was one of the best funnymen of all time.
-
Always, always always, made me laugh. Being funny takes talent. And Dom had it in giant buckets full. Just ask that talentless hack Dane Cook how difficult it is to make people laugh.
-
Fred will watch Blazing Saddles and Cannonball Run this weekend as a tribute.
-
I'm not proud of it, but she had huge knockers and I was drunk. Given the circumstances, I'm sure Mr. DeLuise would find the humor in that.

Of course all of us at the site are terribly saddened by this news. AS everyone I've interviewed that was involved in "Cannonball Run" has said, "Only Dom DeLuise. He made it so funny."
ca.geocities.com/cannonballrunpitstop -
Nobody made me laugh harder in my teen years. Thank you, Dom.
-
Now this is a pretty piddly example of his comedy compared to what people are bringing up here, but: there was some commercial he did for paper plates or something where he packs a picnic basket full of so much stuff, when he picks it up at the end he can barely get it off the counter... he walks off camera with it & a moment later comes staggering backward right through the frame and lets out this little gasp, then there's a big crash sound. So simple, but he made it so funny. He was also a very reliable talk show guest. RIP.
-
Of course at my height I look up to everything. But he made my pseudopod giggle
-
I miss you so much Dom, R.I.P., you will live on forever in our hearts. You and Burt were one of the funniest comedy "teams" ever. So had so much fun doing some of the stuff you guys did, and that true fun was so great to watch. There is a dvd extra here, I think it is on the Robot Chicken Star Wars disc, where they talk about Burt Reynolds doing a voice or something, and how Dom showed up and the two of them went on forever, picket right up where they left off cracking jokes and going crazy just like the good old days. We love ya Dom. Thanks.

I at a fruit pie from the vending machine in honor of Dom..
by malificus
..then I started thinking about all the dead children and lost potential and went for a package of Zingers as well. Nothing like eating red dye'd coconut twinkies with tears streaming down your cheeks. Someone asked me: "Are you all right?" and I stammered out: "Dom Deluise and a bunch of kids died..." and they said: "Did Dom eat them?" and I said: "You bastard.." but my mouth was so full of Zinger it came out sounding like "'ew aster'd!" and they quickly jerked me out of my chair and performed a bad Heimlich Manuever, cracking 3 ribs. I'm recovering nicely, thanks.
-
God Bless Captain Chaos.
My condolences to his family for their loss -
very cool dude imho. I've never met him. His work did wonders to me as far as how to treat friends.

by sarsippius
and I hope Dom Delouise's rotting fetted corpse haunts that fucking douche bag for the rest of his toupee wearing life. Fuck Burt Reynolds! That limp dicked cocksucker was never as cool as Captain Chaos! Go get another face lift you dirty fucking shit wound!
-
reminded me that that whole cast is gone! Jerry Reed, Suzanne Pleshette, Ossie Davis and now Dom. And it isn't on DVD? That movie is also sweet because Dom's whole family is in it. His wife and kids play his wife and kids in the movie. Funny Stuff. His reactions to other people being funny are as funny as him being funny. He will be missed.
-
As many times as he has made me laugh through the worst comedies imaginable, the one time I actually peed my pants from laughing in a theater was his grass smoking scene from "Hot Stuff". I went back to see that movie three times just for that scene. God, Red Skelton was one of America's great clowns, and Dom DeLuise was certainly his equal.
-
and, of course, as Caesar in HISTORY OF THE WORLD: PART I.Comedy legend... he'll be missed greatly.

Who will save us from poorly driven blinged up ambulances and crappy toupe's now. "before I open this door, just remember one thing. I was pressed for time.." RIP Dom.
-
Hehe.
-
I saw this before you got a chance to put it up. But I know you wanted the chance to say your words and that is cool. A shame, a very fun entertainer. He will be remembered.
-
Guy was a genius.
Cannonball Run, Haunted Honeymoon....even Stargate SG1!
Legend. -
Thanks! Laughing my ass off at the sight of that.
-
As the Doc Burt kidnaps to look after the Elephant?
-
Yeah, for a while I grew up watching two things on HBO every time they aired: Star Wars and Cannonball Run.
Anyone ever see The State's genius shot-for-shot recreation of the Cannonball Run Bloopers? Hysterical. -
That's some fucked up piece of news right there. I feel for his family. Particularily Peter (21 Jump Street made me love the guy). Condolences.
-
I'm from the cannon ball run era (and before), Dom always made me laugh no matter what he was doing. He could do a walk on and instantly that portion of the film was ace. He came across as a genuinely nice guy on and off screen. He certainly deserves some memorial in his name.
-
Haunted Honeymoon..he was great in that.
he'll be missed. -
Dom Deluise was the single funniest thing about both the Cannonball Movies and Smokey and the Bandit II. And as much as I LOVE that 70s redneck car genre, they were elevated by the greatness that was Dom DeLuise. They REALLY don't make them that funny any more.
RIP Dom, you've earned it. And RIP... HIM. -
He was telling the story of how he liked this one girl, so he brought her home to meet the family. And in the middle of dinner, his father blurted out:"He thought Moby Dick was a venereal disease!"
-
..."Hot Stuff"....with Dom, Jerry Fuckin' Reed and Suzanne Pleshette. STILL pissed it hasn't been released on dvd. Dom getting stoned + his laugh = comedy gold to a 10-11 year old at the time.
-
He's a Pepper, She's a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too! God's Speed Cap'n!

Paul Prudhomme is going to star as Dom in his life story.
by hypeendshere
i always think of Chris Farley as Dom DeLuise on SNL pissing his pants on the Johnny Carson show.
-
If you want to see why Dom was great. Saw "Hot Stuff" at a drive-in as a kid and even though it's not a great movie, I always have fond memories of Dom in it.
-
RIP Dom and condolences to his family.
-
I remember seeing those outtakes in the theater as a kid and thinking "Credits are fucking cool!" RIP, Dom.
-
Another chunk of my childhood gone, really sad!
-
RIP Dom!!

in an episode of Seaquest DSV together. It was fun to see all three of them. Peter was in his shaved head Dagwood the Dagger role, and I think said something to the effect of if he had a father he would want it to be like Dom Deluise's character.
-
They also both came out with best selling cookbooks at the same time so you always had to do a double take.
-
I agree that the world became much less funny this past year now that we have no Harvey Corman, George Carlin, and Dom DeLuise. "They'll never catch us now J.J.!"
-
An American Tail and Fievel Goes West were made awesome and his Tiger was key, hell the even Robot Chicken pilot was awesome. It is true that whatever he was in whether it was for a few minutes or the whole movie he brought the funny. Silent Movie to Sesame Street, he will be missed.
Man, this year, last year sucks with losing classic talent. Who could fill the shoes of such talent? Answer is none of these Disney stars. -
I musta seem that movie over a thousadn times growing up between me and my sister. Haven't seen it in years.
-
Dom DeLuise is dead? well, fuck
-
To me Dom was always a very funny, ingratiating, and humble person. I laughed really hard many times watching him in his various films. His eyes and facial expressions cracked me up.
I'm sorry to hear he's gone. He made me smile. -
Abe Vigoda will outlive everyone!! All hail the great Abe Vigoda!!
-
He was a very funny guy.... Sad news.
RIP. -

Gotta love the lord. I truly believe the next big one we're going to see is Clint Eastwood. Not today, or tomorrow, but within a year or two. Clint is 79, and has aged like fine wine, but every man's got to know his limitations. That will be one sad day indeed.
-
As a child i remember loving Cannonball Run but I have to say Dom Deluise in THE END was one of the times that i'll always remember. His first scene with Burt Reynolds when we think he is a doctor when in fact he is a patient had me laughing so much i thought my throat would split. Its a sad day for comedy today. Cheers for the laughs Mr Deluise!
-
One of the best eps ever. Dom didn't have a funny role there but it was nice to see him with one of his sons.
RIP. And my condoleances to Peter Penhall and Michael. -
3 cheers for Dom for being entertaining and funny all my life! And all my love to ... him.
-
I remembered both. The scene at the end when he's trying to kill Burt Reynolds still cracks me up..and the Jump street episode was also memorable.
-
EvilWizard - good point, wrong forum.
Conspiracy - you're just a douche! -
I usually do wait a couple of days, it let's the people who are really touched by someone's acting career get their ya-ya's out about how the actor must be such and such a guy because of what they saw on a movie screen or T.V.......I also think that a big name in geekdom will die pretty soon too, either William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy.......Oh, and by the way, Abe Vigoda is the original master of Gunkata.
-
Another great comedic talent lost. RIP DOM
-
Little film but completely unworthy of its neglect; a couple of genuinely hilarious scenes balanced with compassion (end credits are a hoot). Lots of bathos but Dom's best performance. CANNONBALL RUN II? Awful a la Ed Wood; the beginning of the end for many of its players (Burt Reynolds, Arte Johnson, Marilu Henner, Jim Nabors, Jamie Farr, Susan Anton, George Lindsey. Tim Conway, Doug McClure, etc., etc. At least Jack Elam left the set with his dignity intact...maybe).
