NBC Greenlights To Series DAY ONE, PARENTHOOD, SNL THURSDAY, TRAUMA, MERCY, 100 QUESTIONS!! Plus New PARKS, SOUTHLAND & HEROES!!
I am – Hercules!!
No actual fall schedule for NBC until May 19.
No word on renewals for “Chuck,” “Medium” or “Law & Order” yet.
“Day One,” the new “Lost”-like sci-fi ensemble disaster drama from “Lost”/”Heroes” writer-producer Jesse Alexander, is now a series.
“SNL Thursdays,” NBC’s top-rated scripted half-hour last fall, will get (in a non-election year!) at least six new episodes, twice as many as last year.
Jason Katims’ hourlong “Parenthood,” based on the old Steve Martin movie, has gone to series. Katims is also showrunner on the network’s “Friday Night Lights,” already renewed for a foruth and fifth season.
Also to series is the sitcom “Community,” from “Sarah Silverman Program” writer-producer Dan Harmon.
Also joining the schedule are two new medical dramas, one focusing on nurses (“Mercy”) the other on paramedics (“Trauma”).
“Parks and Recreation” gets another 13 episodes in the fall. I remind all doubters that “The Office,” from the same writer-producers, was not as good as “Parks” in its first season and got way better in its second.
Look! Press release!

NBC unveiled pickups for the upcoming broadcast season in the first of a series of presentations today and tomorrow to key advertisers from Studio 8H-the home of NBC's "Saturday Night Live"-at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. Presentations will continue in Chicago on May 7 and Los Angeles on May 12.
"We are thrilled to be announcing such an awesome slate of new series that build on our existing quality brand and deliver emotional, human stories," said Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "NBC will strive to make viewers feel and our shows represent the full range of human emotion from laughter to tears. We can't wait to share these concepts with our audience and our advertising partners."
"These new series will showcase fresh talent and bold, original concepts that are extremely well executed," said Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios. "We are grateful to the producers, casts and crews -- and our team -- who have delivered incredibly compelling and entertaining new series." In response to an evolving media marketplace and the changing needs of advertisers, NBC has created a more innovative, client-centric approach to its traditional Upfront with a series of one-on-one client presentations, which began today in New York City. These presentations are interactive and, unlike other networks' Upfront presentations, will include a Q & A with advertisers and NBC sales and entertainment executives.
NBC will also host advertisers and affiliates at a "Night of Comedy" featuring appearances by some of its biggest comedy stars including Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Rainn Wilson and Tracy Morgan on Tuesday, May 19 in New York City.

2009-2010 NEW SERIES DESCRIPTIONS
New Dramas
PARENTHOOD
From the executive producers of the box-office hit "Parenthood" -- Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (Oscar winners for "A Beautiful Mind"), and writer/executive producer Jason Katims ("Friday Night Lights") -- this contemporary re-imagining of the blockbuster film depicts the colorful and imperfect Braverman family -- four grown siblings sharing the headaches, heartaches and joy of being parents. The star-studded cast includes Peter Krause, Maura Tierney, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard, Bonnie Bedelia, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen and Sarah Ramos. When Sarah Braverman (Tierney, "ER"), a financially strapped single mother, returns home to her parents and siblings in Berkeley, Calif. after packing up her Fresno apartment and uprooting her two inconvenienced kids, Amber (Mae Whitman, "In Treatment") and Drew (Miles Heizer, "ER"), she is greeted by her opinionated father, Zeek (Nelson, "Family Stone," "Coach"), and strong mother, Camille (Bedelia, "Heart Like a Wheel"), who are privately dealing with their own marital issues. As Sarah is reunited with her siblings -- sister, Julia (Christensen, "Traffic"), and brothers Crosby (Shepard, "Baby Mama") and Adam (Krause, "Six Feet Under") -- all struggling with issues of their own, it's clear that the Braverman reunion is just what they need to face the everyday challenges of modern family life. "Parenthood" is a production from Imagine Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme ("The West Wing") directs the pilot.
TRAUMA
Executive producer Peter Berg (NBC's "Friday Night Lights") delivers "Trauma," the first high-octane medical drama series to live exclusively in the field where the real action is. Like an adrenaline shot to the heart, "Trauma" is an intense, action-packed look at one of the most dangerous medical professions in the world: first responder paramedics. When emergencies occur, the trauma team from San Francisco General is first on the scene, traveling by land, by sea or by air to reach their victims in time. From the heights of the city's Transamerica Pyramid to the depths of the San Francisco Bay, these heroes must face the most extreme conditions to save lives -- and give meaning to their own existence in the process. Starring in "Trauma" are Derek Luke ("Notorious"), Cliff Curtis ("10,000 B.C"), Anastasia Griffith ("Damages"), Aimee Garcia ("George Lopez"), Kevin Rankin ("Friday Night Lights") and Jamey Sheridan ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent"). "Trauma" is a production of Universal Media Studios and Film 44. Berg, Sarah Aubrey ("Bad Santa," "Friday Night Lights"), Dario Scardapane and Jeffrey Reiner ("Friday Night Lights") serve as executive producers. The pilot was written by Scardapane and directed by Reiner.
MERCY
"Mercy," a new medical drama with a unique point of view, portrays the lives of the staff at Mercy Hospital as seen through the eyes of those who know it best -- its nurses. Nurse Veronica Callahan (Taylor Schilling, "Dark Matter") returns to Mercy from a military tour in Iraq -- and she knows more about medicine than all of the residents combined. Together with fellow nurses Sonia Jimenez (Jamie Lee Kirchner, "Rescue Me") and Chloe Payne (Michelle Trachtenberg, "Gossip Girl"), Callahan navigates through the daily traumas and social landmines of life and love both inside the hospital and out in the real world. The cast also includes: James Tupper ("Men in Trees") as Dr. Chris Sands, a new doctor at the hospital who complicates Veronica's life; Diego Klattenhoff ("Supernatural") as Mike Callahan, Veronica's husband; and Guillermo Diaz ("Weeds") as Nurse Angel Lopez. "Mercy" is a production from Universal Media Studios and Berman Braun. Joining writer/executive producers Liz Heldens (NBC's "Friday Night Lights") and Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts ("Pushing Daisies," "Pepper Dennis") are executive producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. Emmy Award winner Adam Bernstein (NBC's "30 Rock," "Rescue Me") is the director.
DAY ONE
From executive producer/writer Jesse Alexander ("Heroes," "Lost," "Alias") and director Alex Graves ("Fringe," "Journeyman"), "Day One" tells the story of life on earth following a global catastrophe that has devastated the world's infrastructures. Beginning with the immediate aftermath of the cataclysmic event, an eclectic band of survivors -- played by Adam Campbell ("Date Movie"), Catherine Dent ("The Shield"), Julie Gonzalo ("Eli Stone"), David Lyons ("ER"), Derek Mio ("Greek"), Carly Pope ("24"), Thekla Reuten ("Sleeper Cell") and Addison Timlin ("Cashmere Mafia") -- strives to rebuild society as they unravel the mysteries of what happened and face their uncertain future. The group, all residents of one apartment building in suburban Van Nuys, Calif., embarks on a quest for survival and discovers that hope is found in small victories -- and heroes are born every day. "Day One" is a Universal Media Studios production.
New Comedies
100 QUESTIONS (fka "100 Questions for Charlotte Payne")
Emmy winner James Burrows ("Will & Grace," "Friends") directs "100 Questions," a new comedy series written and executive-produced by Christopher Moynihan ("For Your Consideration") that provides hilarious answers to 100 questions about love. Charlotte Payne (Sophie Winkleman, "Peep Show") is looking for love and has rejected multiple marriage proposals -- but she has yet to meet Mr. Right. When she joins a popular online dating site, she gets a little help from her dating counselor Ravi (Amir Talai, "The Ex List") - who requires her to take a 100-question compatibility test. The questions aren't easy for Charlotte to answer, and each one requires her to recount a poignant and humorous time in her life with friends Leslie (Elizabeth Ho, "Women's Murder Club"), Jill (Joy Suprano, NBC's "Law & Order"), Mike (Christopher Moynihan "For Your Consideration") and Wayne (David Walton "Quarterlife"). The test becomes a journey of self-discovery for Charlotte who begins to realize what she truly wants in a relationship. Ron West ("Psych"), Kelly Kulchak ("Psych") and Michelle Nader ("King of Queens") join Moynihan as executive producers. The series is produced by Universal Media Studios and Tagline.
COMMUNITY
From Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo ("Arrested Development") comes "Community," a smart comedy series about higher education -- and lower expectations. The student body at Greendale Community College is made up of high-school losers, newly divorced housewives, and old people who want to keep their minds active. Within these not-so-hallowed halls, "Community" focuses on a band of misfits, at the center of which is a fast-talkin' lawyer whose degree has been revoked (Joel McHale, "The Soup"), who form a study group and end up learning a lot more about themselves than they do about their course work. In addition to McHale, the series also stars: Gillian Jacobs ("The Book of Daniel"); Yvette Nicole Brown ("Rules of Engagement"); Danny Pudi ("Greek"); Alison Brie ("Mad Men"); and comedy legend Chevy Chase ("Saturday Night Live"). "Community" is a Krasnoff Foster Entertainment, Harmonious Claptrap and Russo Brothers production in association with Sony Pictures Television and Universal Media Studios. Russ Krasnoff ("The Soloist"), Dan Harmon ("The Sarah Silverman Program"), Joe Russo ("Arrested Development"), Anthony Russo ("Arrested Development") and Gary Foster ("The Soloist") serve as executive producers. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the pilot that was written by Dan Harmon.

Still nothing on Chuck? Well at least Southland got a second season.
-
Network TV has really taken a nose dive in quality. Most of your great shows (Breaking Bad, Mad Men, In Treatment etc) are all on cable now. I think networks need to look at limiting the season.
-
I will watch. Don't leave the soup.
-
That is all.
-
Oh, and the 24 finale is so gonna leak online before May 18th.
-
Who knew that was in the works?
-
It amazes me that this network keeps renewing the biggest piece of crap on television, and yet shows like Life and Chuck get cancelled or linger with uncertainty.
-
Another season of hijacked talkbacks ahoy
-
still plenty of people watching Heroes.

"“Friday Night Lights,” already renewed for a fifth and sixth se
by big jim
Shouldn't that be "fourth and fifth season"? Or am I wrong in thinking this past season was Season 3?
-
I'm betting he has half a season to turn things around before NBC pulls the plug.
-
Yeah, I want to watch a rerun of another shitty sketch again?
-
TWO new medical dramas! NBC thinks outside the box as always. Plus, a show based on Parenthood. Way to strike while the iron is cold and menopausal, NBC!
-
Chuck hasn't "succeeded" in the ratings because it is up against some very stiff competition that it frankly cannot compete against. Whatever happened to the day when a network would shift a show to one or two different time slots before giving up. I really hope NBC wises up and gives Chuck a third season, especially since it is giving Heroes who has slightly better numbers, and Parks and Recreation (bad Office rip off)another go. Don't get me wrong, I do think Heroes improved from the first half of the season, but I would much rather see it go than Chuck.
-
It wants to be "The Office" but "The Office" it ain't.
-
...had more laughs in it than the entire run of My Name is Earl. I hope that Community gets a Thursday time slot.
-
Not a complete letdown in my books. Aziz Ansari could stand there mute and I'd still laugh.
Sit down, Shut up on the other hand... -
She couldn't even carry a movie. She's better off at being a recurring character.
-
... has my vote. I miss the soup.
-
My interest is piqued by COMMUNITY (because I'm interested to see if Joel McHale has found a vehicle that works for him) and TRAUMA (purely because of the Berg pedigree and a strong, diverse cast).
-
ABC had one. I think CBS had one. The movie is fucking 10 years old.
-
Which means almost everyone will ignore them and they will be unceremoniously cancelled by December. Yet "Two and Half Men" is the number one comedy on television. How?
-
Or maybe I have a soft spot for Joel Mchale. And Parks and Recs is awful and always will be.
-
I care about nothing else. Except Unusuals, but that's ABC's deathwish.
-
Bring back Earl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
NBC will be begging Ian McShane to come back when Leno flops.
-
And since his mid season series The IT Crowd never came about, this is nice to see. Wasn't Parenthood a loser series years ago? What makes them think it'll work now? Nice cast though. But I think Peter Krause will become the thinking man's Ted McGinley...good actor, but a sign of doom.
-
Community and Day One. I'm there.
-
Thank bog they network hacks have not tried to Americanize "Peep Show" yet--it would be a disaster.
-
It's 20. And yes, it has failed as a TV series before.
-
Glad to see his "Chuck" gig paid off. Though it probably means his new show won't last six weeks.
-
He's the bank teller in Spider-Man 2 when Doc Ooc attacks the bank.

This guy definitely deserves to be a star.
-
That preview is kind of heavy-handed, but pilots usually are. If it lasts more than a few episodes it could turn into a good show.
-
Might not be as good, but who knows.
-
on the nurse show? how come we had to find out from the bullshit network press-release description, instead of having Herc tell us on the headline of the article? Are you ok Herc?
-
with their incessant tub-thumping over the show. This campaign is a carbon copy of Jericho's initially successful, yet ultimately futile campaign to survive. The hardcores make enough noise to convince CBS there's more fans out there than the ratings for its first season showed, they renewed it, and then it sunk like a stone. I've seen this movie before, and this is how it ends.
-
After he got on board with Heroes, 5 of the last 7 episodes, including, I believe, the one he wrote (Cold Snap), set series-low Nielsen ratings in total audience, household rating/share, and the 18-49 demo. If you're gonna hype the guy as the savior of the show, then see the ratings after he gets in the mix just nosedive, he has to share part of that. The rest of that blame is square with Kring and his lieutenants in the writers room.
-
As someone else mentioned, it is 20 years old. And it failed as a series while the movie was still popular and (according to IMDB) Joss Whedon was involved...haha
Now...the idea of doing a series based on Parenthood isn't bad, but they better not try to capitalize on the movie that many people have forgotten by now and that the younger generations won't even know existed. -
I've seen every episode of The Office about a billion times - but Parks & Recreation? Awful.
-
Two articles down?
-
I'll definitely watch that. Or DVR it.
-
Ignoring the fact that its a Jericho clone from the who guy who ran Heroes into the ground. Not that it matters anyway seeing that its a sci-fi show on a network it'll be canceled by the time it takes the type this sentence. -
...without badmouthing My Name Is Earl for once. Amazazing.
-
The Office was MUCH better in its first season than Parks and Recreation is now. It's not even close.
-
I enjoyed that show quite a bit, and would like to have known the whole story about Charlie's frame up and to see the full map of the players.
-
And did that preview for DAY ONE ever get past the unedited behind-the-scenes footage? Not the best sales job there. I clicked off before it finished.
-
Sorry Herc. I think you're deluding yourself about Parks. I want it to succeed too, but it's a producer's job to see the potential of a series. It's the audience's job to see it as it is. And right now, it's pretty flat.
-
Some good laughs in that preview. And if they've made Chevy Chase funny again, the whole world should be watching it.
-
It's first season is hilarious. Sure, it cribbed a lot from the British version, including the entire pilot, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't funny. The first season of the Office is lightyears ahead of where it is now, as far as balancing tone with comedy is concerned.
And even more so when compared to the painful Parks and Recreation. -
Herc says: "I remind all doubters that “The Office,” from the same writer-producers, was not as good as “Parks” in its first season and got way better in its second." I remind all doubters that Herc never gave the office a chance until Whedon did an episode. And now? Weekly talkback. If only Whedon did an episode of every show on television--then all the best shows on TV would have talkbacks!
-
Parks? What's next? Boardwalk?
-
If you do, get skunk boy back.
-
parks and recreation is in no way comedy gold, but i find it fun. If you want to talk about a comedy that is painful to watch, look at scrubs now on ABC. Was soooo good for so long, but now on abc, they are just recycling old jokes, as if to prove that 'yeah its scrubs first season on abc, but we want to prove we know how funny it was on abc, so we'll remind you about how funny it was by calling upon all the old jokes.' They say they want to give it a proper farewell, yet ALL (or most of) the stars are barely all in the same episode anymore! I mean, WTF? how is that giving it a proper farewell? They're spending so much of each episodes time focusing on the new interns, who are shallow caricatures instead of actual characters with depth. 'ohhh, that one is always perky and happy but is sad inside because people are so mean.' 'ohhh, there's a hot blonde who's a tomboy and likes fat guys because its funny.' 'ohhhh, there's that skinny funny looking kid from the sandlot, who still looks like he hasn't grown up, but we know he's grown up because insanely deep voice and comes off as a rapist.' I think they want to keep the show going, but it is utterly unrealistic to think these cartoons could possibly become the foundation of the show.
-
*we know how funny it was on NBC... and i'm not going to amend the post by reposting it all again to fix a sentance here or a typo there, like you know who.
-

costs? Herc linked to an article last year that said each episode of Heroes costs $4 million. So generating $4.3 million is good but just barely covers the cost of the show.

Digging around, "TV Done Wright" reported:
"- If Chuck is renewed, chances are it will be moved timeslots. The network plans on pairing Heroes with one of its new shows.
"- May 19th will be the date NBC will unveil their whole schedule, including the fate of Chuck and other shows."

Crossing my fingers. Oh, and Community looks great. -
Nice to see him in something else, and Community actually looks like it might be pretty funny. Still, sod NBC for canceling Life. Sod them in the arse.
-
might be decent if they made better use of the ensemble. Too much Poehler and not enough emo intern and the others. Southland needs to make the detectives more interesting or phase them out in favor of Officer Atwood and his cohorts. The detective scenes are complete buzzkills and we don't need to have the sympathetic minority detective or T.E. Scott playing yet another smarmy dude. But don't worry, if any of the new shows fail, NBC is ready with "Orderlies," "Janitors," and "Food Services" as midseason replacements. There is no facet of the public service sector that can't be exploited in a show.
-
Looks really bad. I'll give it 3 episodes then done. Looks like a spoof of Friends. The dramas look alright. Trauma looked the most appealing. If this community show does well what about the Soup?
-
i mean, if it's on Thursday and all... assuming it's even live, that is. maybe Thursday Night Pre-Taped?
-
I thought I heard something about one of the Big Three networks remaking the version of Survivors that aired on the BBC last year. Is this it? If so, they have mighty big shoes to fill because that show was awesome. I am eagerly anticipating series 2.
-
is Amy Poehler. She cannot carry a show as a lead. She should be in a supporting role.
-
Just sayin'.
-
uhhhhh, no.
-
Heroes, The Office and My Name is Earl - makes this the only 'big 3' network I watch - well, other than "24" of course.
-
..caught my attention. Rest not so much, maybe "Parenthood". I still miss Everwood...
"Trauma". Awful. Cheesiest line ever: "I can't die". Some E.R. Spin-off from the same production team would have been more interesting..
Why Parks & Recreation got renewed, incomprehensible.
-
Parenthood has a good cast and, surprisingly, Dax Shephard made me laugh (first time that's ever happened).Does the bar from 100 questions remind anyone else like the hangout from Coupling (UK)?I predict Day One will be airing at the same day & time as Lost.
