‘He Has To Pay For What He Did!!’ 24 7.21!!

Published at:  May 04, 2009 3:11:57 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

The two hours since Soul-Patch Tony killed Larry Moss have felt a little flaccid to me. Fewer twists. Fewer reveals and cliffhangers before the breaks. I’m hoping for a rally as the D.C. dawn nears.

Fox says:

While lives remain on the line, an emotional Chloe copes with the declining conditions. With only a few hours left in Jack Bauer's day, the situation worsens when the politicking inside the White House corners the divided administration. Guest Cast: Jon Voight as Jonas Hodges; Elisha Cuthbert as Kim Bauer; Michael Rodrick as Stokes; Sprague Grayden as Olivia Taylor; Glenn Morshower as Aaron Pierce; Will Patton as Alan Wilson; Karim Price as Med Tech; Gabriel Casseus as Galvez; Carlo Rota as Morris O'Brian.

Season eight spoilers lurk in the text invisible.

President Taylor will still be in the White House next season, and she’ll have a new, Rahm Emmanuel-like (or Ari Gold-like) chief of staff named Rob Weiss. The show is also casting a new CTU field-ops chief named Davis Cole, who’s hot for an expert CTU data analyst named Dayna Pakkala. Chloe’s CTU team will be joined by a twentysomething nerd named Jonah Schwartz.

9 p.m. Monday. Fox.

    by mogwai_democracy

gotta disagree with Herc. these last two epsiodes have been very suspenseful in my opinion. not as much crazy action but more building in intensity to set up for the big finish. in particular, i think last weeks episode was really well directed. something stood out about that one for me. i honestly don't know what this season is building towards and that's a good thing. with only a few hours left to go things could still go in a bunch of different directions.

I'm kinda in the middle ground with Herc and Mogwai. There seems to be nothing special happening but at the same time I feel like it's possibly leading to something that is completely unexpected. I'm holding out judgement until the end. So far I'd say that this season is better than 6 but still not as great as 5. I also think the year off kinda hurt though.

    Season 8

    by roboplegicwrongcock

The last three episodes of this season have been outstanding. Yet it's clear that this shady organisation is the one that will threaten jack next season and the one that Tony is trying to bring down from the inside, come on people it works. Reading about Season 8 depresses me though, hasn't this series showed the writers anything? Don't go back to CTU! That's a stale motherfucker, stay out of LA, drop Chloe altogther, drop Kim she's so fucking boring and that story with her daughter is lame as, glad they're keeping granny president, Freckles Bauer absolutely HAS TO STAY! And don't kill off Tony again. Peace

Fuck this shit.

    Predictions

    by nahdogg

Jack will be saved but with semi-permanent damamge that will keep him out of the field for the first 12 hours of next season but when the chips are down shaky Bauer will summon the strength to cap some terrorists. Tony is in deep cover and knew that Moss was a goner anyway...Moss was a mercy killing. Tony's betrayal of the new blue tooth gang will be saved up for the season opener next year as he will escape into the sewers Marwan style.

    by richardalpert_timepimp

This season has rocked pretty hard, in no small part to Tony being an actually bad motherfucker. And to anyone who says he still good, being a triple-double-super agent undercover, fuck that. If that's the truth, I really will have to evaluate my continued viewership. That would just be so unbelievably stupid at this point. I understand the impulse...but its gone too far. He's done things, without remorse, way worse than anything Jack ever did. And they were things he didn't even have to do. If he is actually a good guy, that will be the biggest mistake of the whole series. Besides, why would you ever want that? We all know Tony is one of the only people on Earth who can even poes a real threat to Jack. I'd rather have him be the villain than some new terrorist or whatever, you know?

    by titus05

Jonas Hodges has been such a letdown as a villian...I was expecting big things from Jon Voight...when I first heard that Voight was hired to be Season 7's big baddie I was anticipating an epic 24 villian...instead we probably got one of the worst villians in 24 history...so dull and boring...did plans change for him when the 24 writers re-wrote the final 6 episodes? did they change the Hodges character after seeing that he was not very interesting?

    by allykatd

he had this air of superior smugness and self-assurance that I thought was fantastic. I mean, nothing ruffled that guy. The way he justifies what he does and how he talked down the FBI was classic. I didn't like how they got him to talk. That was a letdown. Almost like making Darth Vader this pathetic dude in the end of Return of the Jedi. I wanted Darth to go down swinging, which is what I hoped Jonas would be. But he had some stellar moments.

I MAY BUY SEASON 7 ON BLURAY

    by ballbag

It really has been great, and even though its already been said many times before, benefitted from the writers strike so much.

I also think this will have a knock on effect with Season 8 as they will have had a little more leverage than usual to get the writing in place for what may be the last season of 24.

I cant wait to see what the remaining 4 episodes have in store. Does anyone know if ep's 23 and 24 will air together?

    by taking_up_space

I originally dismissed the show but recently got hooked. Great show! Didn't realize The Shield creator, Sean Ryan co-created the show with David Mamet. That's some solid pedigree, right there.

I agree that Tony is totally a good guy working on the inside, deep deep. I hope that reveal isn't supposed to be the Big One which usually comes at the end of the season. It's a bit too obvious.

Here's a thought. Shows like 24, which are not too entrenched in character development must rely on surprise twists to keep the show good and fresh. Shows like LOST, which take time to develop characters, can get away with less surprising twists because you care more about the characters.

Don't know if 24's hourly serialized format with the continuing cliffhangers would work as well if the show took the time to develop its characters better, though.

My prediction for how this season will end

    by taking_up_space

Jack and Co. will track Tony down just as Tony has helped to put an end to whatever the evil threat is. Jack and Co. must take Tony in because even if he did these things for the greater good, he is still a murderer of Feds.

Tony will shoot himself rather than be taken in.

Jack will watch as Tony drops, be tore up and simply want to give up.

Very last scene will be Jack accepting Kim's transfusion and meeting his grandchild and he'll be torn between love for them and knowing that he does what he has to do to protect those that he loves.

    fade to black.

If season 8 (which has been confirmed for over two-years) does take place so soon after season 7's finale, then Jack catching Tony so soon means two things: Tony's will get murked, ala' Hodges to silence him by the bigger group, or he escapes/cooperates with Jack and the FBI, and the story line carry's over to season 8.

    by yackbacker

Her "cancellation" (lack of payment) was received. If anything, she's being set up by the cabal, who also still have a mole in either the WH or the FBI. Is that mole Janis Gold? Yeah, I think so. Well, whomever it ends up being, the point is there is DEFINITELY a mole left to be revealed and he/she was the one that called in the car bomb. There's no way Olivia's call to her friend would have resulted in a car bomb that quickly.

if you wanna know what's up with Tony...

    by mogwai_democracy

remember when Jack first caught Tony and was interrogating him at FBI headquarters early in the season? Jack was asking him what was going on and Tony was talking about how he lost everything he had due to the the government, and that Jack still working for the government was like 'spitting on his wife Teris grave'?sure, later he played it off like he only said that so Jack would come at him and he could give him the code word or whatever, but i think that exchange in that room was the one time we actually got the truth from Tony this season. i think that scene was important and says it all about his motivation this season. Maybe Tony IS trying to take down the secret evil group with everything he's doing, but he's doing it for entirely selfish reasons. he's doing it for revenge and no matter who gets in his way, he's going to take them down. i still think that somehow he is trying to get to ex-prez Charles Logan.and yeah, this episode was mostly just setup for the finale, but i think the finale is going to be NUTS!

ya, pretty slow these last few hours

    by bullet3

I really think they fucked up the moment they had jack get infected. Up until that point this season was rocking, but somehow they managed to screw it up and fall into the
usual rut (usually 3/4s of the way through season 1, 4, 6).
Also, just so much random stupid stuff happening. Like how Renee lets Jack run point (Which she shouldn't),randomly tells that civilian that Jack is infected with a bio-weapon (which is classified information), and the uses that as a justification for letting him run point. What kind of fucking logic is that? "Ya, he's been infected with a virus that fucks up his brain, and he's going to die within 24 hours, so he'll be fine leading an assault where a young hostage is involved". Oh well, next week looks like it finally picks up, hopefully last 3 eps will be non-stop action

Having time to rewrite only makes the show worse it seems

by guy who got a headache and accidentally

If you ask me this season was only any good the first couple of episodes, before the big rewrite with that lame as hell white house invasion and onward. And these last couple since Tony turned bad again, which they had time to rewrite some more are even duller. Maybe they actually do do a better job when there's a deadline. There was a line from Jonas Hodges earlier in the season, "stress is the vertilizer of creativity" I feel like that was the writers talking now. Only Jack and Tony with Emerson and Jack on the run from that Starkwood Mercenary have been exciting at all so far, I can't figure out for the life of me why everyone is going on how this season has been great, that only thing keeping it from being bad as last year is no lame jack's family is a terrorist story. But still they've managed to have equally unbelievable storylines.

Im a bit concerned that this week is a bit of a weak one. Im in the UK so wont get to watch the episode till tonight. I usually scan the talkback for a feeling of what it was like without hitting too many spoilers along the way (dosent always work!).

That leaves 3 episodes to wrap up the season and while I dont doubt that jack will ream a LOT of asshole before the day is over, they are cutting it fine. Still think it sets the stage for season 8 though which I feel may play out in a similar way to season 5.

    Loose ends

    by the mcpoyle clan

I think there's a good chance they're going to leave some loose ends that won't be resolved in 3 hours. Maybe this time, they won't take the customary leap between seasons and brush over them. With so little time, thing should at least ramp up; Cruz Pezuela shows up next week; too bad he's an agent and not Cruz Pezuela.

If you're writing 24 episodes for a 24-Hour time period there's going to be lulls in there. In my opinion the only "come on" episodes were those lame ass White House invasion episodes. That was lame and beyond suspension of disbelief.

24 is like a book, some chapters are more exciting than others, but to hold the story together and move it along you need all the chapters whether they're exciting or just okay. This was just an okay chapter for me, too, but it advanced the plot. I really hope Jack saves Gibran, or whatever the guys name is.

In my opinion episode 20 was a lot of talk and character rather than frantically paced action and I loved every second of it.
