Monday Brings Maybe The Last CHUCK Ever!!

Published at:  Apr 27, 2009 1:50:49 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Medium” is pulling bigger numbers than “Chuck,” “Chuck” is perched on the NBC bubble and Jay Leno is coming to primetime.

This could be it for everybody’s favorite walking Intersec.

I confess I’m one of the first-season fans who stopped watching last year, though my DVR has been faithfully storing every hour.

Should I watch over the summer or delete? Input welcome!

8 p.m. Monday. NBC.

Just to tell you to watch the second season. There are some iffy episodes and some blatantly missed opportunities, but it's still my favorite show on Monday night (on network anyway, gotta love In Treatment).

That and like someone said above, last weeks episode was just filled with goodness.

If they don't renew this show while dreck like Heroes gets to go on I will be very irate.

CHUCK's the show I most look forward to

    by jardinier

every week (even though BSG and LOST had/have better "objective" quality to them, CHUCK's more eminently entertaining). It didn't start out that way, but this second season has really been very good, for the most part. Certainly far superior to HEROES. And if it's a lack of closure you're concerned about: last week's episode (sans the last minute) would have been a decent, satisfactory ending to the show.

I was actually one of the people who skipped the first season because I though it looked rather meh, but then I got bored one day and sought out the pilot one day for reasons I still can't fathom. Been hooked ever since and like I said above, it's my favorite network show on Mondays. At the very least give the first few episodes a chance to see if it fits your sense of humor.

Gls: Are the first few representative?

    by v'shael

Some shows (buffy season 1, supernatural season 1) don't hit their stride for a while. The pilot and first few episodes aren't representative of the show. Others shows (like How I met your mother or The Big Bang theory) pretty much haven't changed since the pilot. If you liked the first few episodes, you'll probably like the show.

Which camp would Chuck fall into?

Chuck, Fringe, and 30 Rock are the only shows on right now that I really look forward to seeing each week. That said, I don't think it can continue indefinitely; if they decide to wrap Chuck's story up and be done with it, I'll be glad for what we got.

I don't think it'd be fair to say that the show hasn't changed at all since the first few episodes, but the basic tone and the chemistry are all there already. If the show doesn't work for you in those first few episodes character or idea wise I don't think anything that happens later will change your mind too much. Having said that, the second season definitely does explore a bit of lore that was only set up during the first season, and the show is definitely better for it.

    CHUCK-SEASON 2

    by soindianachris

Definitely watch it. It had a few "weak" spots, but even Chuck's weak spots were more entertaining that MOST shows good spots. The interaction between Chuck, Sarah and Casey is great and Casey is stand alone hilarious when he wants to be. Think about a bad-ass Frank Burns with a slight masochistic streak and you've got Casey. And the BUYMORE crew is funny as well. I truly hope that NBC will give CHUCK another season.

Especially since you're still watching Heroes... This show is about 39 to 46 times better than Heroes. The last episode, in which Chuck finally accomplished his goal and Captain Awesome discovered a big secret, was probably the series' best. On top of this, the show attracts a myriad of guest stars comparable to Will&Grace without the suck factor of Will&Grace. It, along with Reaper and Dollhouse, are three shows that simply do NOT deserve to be on-the-bubble, especially when compared with less-adored critical blunders within their own networks, such as Heroes, 90210 and Hole in the Wall, respectively. The bottom line is, this show is consistently funny, sexy and exciting and Jay Leno is a fucking asshole if it gets canceled.

The show may not be the tightest scripted but it juggles action, comedy, romance, and drama all laced with nerd references. That and a cast that has real chemistry and this show has made Mondays something to look forward. Zac Levi and Yvonne Strahovski are destined for big things.

The show is more than decent

    by thrillho77

Good cast chemistry, fairly funny, hot chicks, and good tunes. I find the episodes rather repetitive though. I find myself caring about the character moments FAR more than the action scenes. The overall arc of the story, rather than the "bad guy of the week." The overall arc moves so slowly too, that I don't feel like I've missed anything if I miss an episode here and there for whatever reason.

But it is far and away better than any reality show that sucks up air time. And it's better than more than half of the scripted shows going on right now. It'd be a shame to lose it.

    Vast improvement...

    by thehebrewhammer

...over anything Heroes has shown in the last two seasons OR what Chuck's first season. This second season has been fantastic, with great guest stars to better story pacing. They've really pushed Chuck's main storyline ahead, perhaps with the knowledge they were close to the chopping block. It seems as if every episode has been building up the main storyline. This is the show I make the biggest effort to actually sit down and watch.

    by snm1266

I love "Chuck" but why bother renewing it when they basically closed the storyline? Last week, Chuck got the Intersect removed from his head. This was the premise of the show! Now there's no reason for the show to go forward. No Intersect, no FBI, CIA, NSA, Fulcrum was "destroyed", Morgan left the BuyMore to move to Hawaii...there is no more show. Unless they come up with a super new spin on why "Chuck" should continue, I just don't see why it should be renewed. Although, the description from TVGuide.com says that tonight's episode is "game changing".

    Yes, Herc, You Should Watch

    by sean38

Unlike a lot of shows (Heroes, I'm looking in your direction) Chuck improved dramatically from Season 1 to Season 2. There has been less focus on the spy shenanigans and more focus on the Buy More. Hell, they could base the ENTIRE show around the Buy More and I'd watch. But yes, fire up your DVR and start watching. If you get started now you might be able to watch the season (hope not series) finale tonight. One final note...that we're losing shows like Chuck so that no-talent Jay Leno can bring his unique blend of mediocrity to prime time is just one more reason why I watch fewer and fewer shows on network television and more on cable.

    by wcme

CHUCK is not in any way "mission Critical" tv like 24 or LOST. Its like each week, having a really well made ho-ho or your favorite coroner Cheese stake and fries. When its on, its incredibly well done. Some episodes are out and out classics and highly entertaining, and others just sort of mozy around and then are over. I found in season 2 that the antics of the BuyMore B-stories were more entertaining then the A plot, but I still had a few genuine LOL moments each ep. I am sad it going away, as its been more and more excellent as season 2 is coming to an end. For those who didn't give it a chance or never watched - its sour grapes the whole "Knew it would get canceled - never watched". It had 2 FULL SEASONS and was about a 70% success rate the whole time. Things like CUPID and THE UNUSUALLS really are just place holders for later tv shows and are not really expected to be on the all time all time history. CHUCK had a great run and will be fondly remembered by fans. It most impressive moment to be was how Chuck got the intersect into his head to begin with - with a ZORK I puzzle that he had to solve...I also played those games in college and if I was sending an e-mail to my friend, thats the "secret code" I would use to unlock it as we played it endlessly (Though we go further back to Colossal Cave). Nice show - sorry to see you go. (the real problem is that there are 4 shows on at 8pm on monday with followings at various age groups - BIG BANG\CHUCK\HOUSE\GOSSIP GIRL. Torrents are the only way to fly!

2nd season expands on the basic idea of the show from the 1st season, and creates a very entertaining hour of tv. Last week's 2nd to last show of the season raised the stakes and should make for a dramatic finale tonight. And it's a comedy for pete's sake! You know a show is good when it's branded mainly as a comedy, and not only does the comedic parts make you laugh, but the serious parts pull you in as well.

I'd hate to see Chuck go as it has been a consistent treat, while other shows (*cough Heroes *cough) fall in a downward spiral. Last year, I watched Chuck and Heroes. This year I only watch Chuck.

NBC is quickly becoming the station I will watch the least. Chuck is by far the most entertaining show, and fits perfectly in my age group (25-34). I watch Heroes, but after Chuck, Heroes is a let down every time. Sadly, I can't see how NBC will renew Chuck, and they'll play boring Jay Leno everyday. Besides The Office and 30 Rock I don't see any reason to stick with NBC after Chuck is gone. I'll just watch 30 Rock online then, and without Chuck, I have no reason to stick around to be disappointed by Heroes.

The History Channel has become the station that I watch the most. It fits perfectly with my age group (2,000-3,000). I watch shows like "Histories Mysteries" and "What the Ahcients Knew," mainly to see how they get it all wrong. My fellow Immortals love to come over to my apartment and watch it. Its very funny.
I also like watching "Lost" and I used to liek watching "Battlestar Galactica". "Chuck" is kind of funny, but I mainly watch for that hot, blond chick. If it gets cancelled blame Scott Bakula; he has become a "show killer".

Here is a brilliantly evil move

    by mel gibsteinberg

Imagine this, the suits at NBC are looking at Chuck's numbers and they are overall dissapointed. They see that there are a lot of folk recording the show on DVR, but the advertisers still aren't happy about that. They need buzz, they need some sort of pub, they need those die hard fans out there to do something. So what do they do? They float the news that Chuck is canned and that it most likely won't be back. BUT at the same time they coordinate with their main corporate sponsor to put together a lame "Save Chuck Campaign" in which they hock a lot of footlong sub sandwhiches. At the end of the day, if they get enough buzz or if Subway gets some nice returns, they can bring back Chuck for a limited "test" run ala Jericho. If it doesn't work, at least they made some quick cash and can ride off into the sunset and try it again with some other garbage. Let's be honset, NBC isn't that clever, otherwise we wouldn't have had the abortions that are Heroes, Knight Rider, My Own Worst Enemy, blah blah blah. But just once it would be interesting to see a show like this one succeed.

    Then again

    by mel gibsteinberg

We got two seasons of a mildly funny, mildly sexy, mildly fun actioneer, can we really complaign? I guess compared to most of what is out there, Chuck is tits up, but honestly, the formula has sort of come to an end. They could pretty much close up shop tonight and I would be satisfied with Ellie and Awesome married, Morgan and Anna in Hawaii learning the mystical art of hibachi cooking, Lester and Jeff being...well Lester and Jeff. Ultimately if Sarah and Chuck decide to get together and she ditches her spy stuff to play corporate security advisor and VP of international affairs for Chuck and Pop's new software company, which will take over in the ashes of Chevy Chases' evil Microsoft corp, then I would say the show has done its job. Really? What else is there to tell? Oh and Big Mike actually murders Everett, or ... even more brilliantly cuts off Tony Hale's hand in an homage to Arrested Development, and he takes back control of the Buymore. It works!

It's good for all of the reasons mentioned above. I wouldn't worry about the show's premise being "finalized" as many of the plot points have supposedly been solved. If the series' creators got us this far, I'm sure they'll think of something to restart the series next fall.

    by wiboomer1

OK, I have come to really support Chuck. There's something for everyone here. And it's kid friendly, for the most part. It's a great 7PM show, to lead into something a little darker...like Knight Rider! I tried to watch Heroes, but it's so convoluted, I stopped watching after the Hiro back in the feudal ages Japan sequence. Knight Rider would be a perfect companion to Chuck on Monday Night. I haven't watched Medium, but i'm not into supernatural dead people stuff, not my cup of tea.

Purpletiger006 had it right. Panty shot was awesome. And the opening 3 minutes of the 3D episode from this season may be the best use of the technology EVER. Also last week's ep was among the finest the show has allowed. And Bruce Boxleitner himself has guest-starred this season, giving further props to TRON! I have yet to see a Lost from this season. ARE YOU KIDDING? The show finally hit it's stride with the last 5 eps. A 4th retooling would KILL it (Pilot Movie, First 13 eps, last 5 eps, and your proposed lead swaps). I would love to see KR come back for a 2nd season, but am realistic enough to see the fat lady in the tunnel, coming out into the stadium on 5/5/09. That's when NBC will let us know if Chuck and KR come back or not.

As for everyone saying that the premise of the show pretty much wrapped up last night, you have to see them setting up a situation tonight in that Chuck is going to ask his dad to put the intersect back in. I don't know what will happen, I would surmise it will be something along the lines of Ellie being kidnapped by Chevy Chase's character. But, Chuck will ask for the intersect back.

    by rob0729

Comparing ratings of Medium and Chuck is unfair. Chuck has probably the most competition of any show on NBC. They go up against Dancing with the Stars, Big Bang Theory/HIMYM combo, and House. Medium has to go up against CSI: Miami, but they also get to go up against the struggling Castle and local news on the Fox affiliates. If Medium didn't get better ratings than Chuck, it would be canceled by now.
Chuck is a victim of horrible scheduling. Even so, their overall ratings isn't much worse than Heroes and they actually have done better than Heroes in the 18-34 demo.

    by oisin5199

Medium is probably the most creative procedural on television (if you don't count Pushing Daisies). Some great gimmicks and themes. And whoever said Patricia Arquette was 'yuck' must be a five year old. She's definitely been hotter the last season or so with her hair longer and some weight lost. Anyway, watch True Romance, and tell me Patricia is 'yuck.' But what I like most about the series is that it's one of the most realistic depictions of a married couple and family life on television right now. Joe is awesome. He's supportive but still skeptical. But I understand how Chuck would more appeal to the demographic of the AICN crowd, because most of you are probably nerds still working at a Buy More and living with your family (but you're secretly all spies!)I kid cause I love. Anyway, I hope if Chuck gets a third season they shake it up. I agree with whoever said it was starting to get repetitive.

The only possible game changer is to kill/replace someone.

    by leafar the lost

The game changer on Fringe is to bring in Leonard Nimoy as William Bell. I am not a regular viewer of Fringe, but I will be watching when Nimoy makes his debut.
I don't know what possible change McGay can make to make more people watch Chuck. He would have to pull a rabbit out of his ass, and get someone big to be on the show. For example, if he could get Christian Bale to be on the show for a few minutes each week, then ratings would go up. There is a zero chance of that happening. HOWEVER, I bet he could get William Shatner's fat ass to be on the show.
My bet for the possible final show of Chuck is that someone is going to die, and if it comes back a new season a "new" person will join the cast.

I was referring more to her acting and the show in general. I've actually tried watching it more than a few times (despite my disdain that it IS basically NBC's "vulture") and everytime I've tried, it's been some contrived or, even worse, extremely boring subject matter. There is a grassroots campaign to help Chuck, as seen here:

    Three likely "Game changer" theories...

    by colegegraduit

Whether Chuck has a chance at renewal comes down to two words: “Game changer.” That’s what’s promised tonight by the show’s top brass, and what they deem a game changer is the whole longevity of the show, and the only reason to air season three. To keep non-watchers up to speed: Chuck is now foot loose and top-secret free, or in other words, another typical Buy-Moron. So three possibilities emerge. One: in the most cliché rubber-stamp cliffhanger imaginable, the top secret "intersect" goes into the mind of someone stupid for stupid reasons: one of the Buy Morons, Morgan, “Awesome,” whoever. If this happens then season three would’ve been all about a dork chasing and even bigger dork to get the intersect back. The good news is that this ending makes so little sense I doubt even the writers of Chuck would attempt it. Which brings us to game changer two: Chuck is discovered. So basically to cut costs every regular cast member aside from Chuck, Sarah and Casey are sent packing as Chuck goes into hiding, and off to…Hawaii? Where Morgan remains his best bud? This is likely, because the entire rest of the Buy Moron cast? No big loss. Option number three: the game changer has Chuck realize that a la Peter Parker with great power comes great responsibility and so he now wants the intersect, gets it back, and has a totally changed attitude about it. This would be an intriguing game changer since the whole “wakawakawaka” clumbsy Chuck shtick is getting a little old. You would think someone who always daydreamed of being “Charles Carmichael super-spy” would be a little bit more spy worthy. Anyway…five hours left to find out for sure!

    Don't cancel Chuck...

    by philvis

It is by far the favorite show of me and my wife. We look forward to watching it each week, because it has a little of everything in it. All the characters are funny and/or creepy. Last week's episode with Awesome "Being Awesome," was simply awesome. It is actually one of the few shows where I like each character equally. Adam Baldwin cracks me up in it. I don't even know why I bother watching current shows because NBC cancels them off without thinking twice. I think Heroes has picked up from the 1st half of the season, but if I had the choice, I would definitely axe it over Chuck.

Leaps and bounds above season 1, despite a few standalone eps that simply don't work in the beginning. But every multi-ep arc has been some of the best network TV on right now.

    Y'know, Herc, I won't resort to insults...

    by mindtrip

...or namecalling to make my point, but will admit that I recorded the first half of the season before watching any of them, so I know a little bit about the quandary you may feel yourself in. I was.... "almost" is too strong a term, but out of space on my DVR and on the verge of deleting them, but thought, "What the hell, I may as well watch the first couple of eps, and if it's gone to sucking, I'll delete them all."

I watched all the eps one after another. I won't give any spoilers, but they introduced a new element to the storyline and it elevated the series as a whole. If you liked last season enough to watch it, you owe it to yourself to at least watch the first ep. I think you'll be pleasently surprised.

Yeah, not every episode is an Instant Classic(tm), but the show is just so much damned fun. And "Chuck vs. Tom Sawyer" was just plain outstanding. Missle Command? Rush? I'm there. Plus, an awesome diss-Microsoft remark:

Chuck: "Morgan, do we have any Rush CDs in stock? I need you to play Tom Sawyer."

Morgan: "Oh, no problem. I have it on my Zune."

    Chuck: "You have a Zune?"

Morgan: (sneers) "Of course not. Let me go get my iPod."

Classic. And Agent Walker is just...so...hot. And Adam Baldwin is hilarious as Casey.

Not to have someone jump too far back in the talkback thread, though I had three ideas of the "game changer" and I'm so glad that the closest I got to the "right" game changer was the best idea I could come up with! BUT!...even then I only had half of it...and man; I had no idea that they would take the show to a whole new level like that! Sure it is a lot like another classic geek movie in action movie lore (not naming it, as obvious as it is, in case of spoilers for the west coast), though I LOVE where this is likely to head if it gets renewed. Even if it doesn’t; you can pretty much connect the dots towards a happily ever after for Chuck "Carmichael," super-spy. GREAT finale. Good job guys!

    by amy chasing

It's a geeky comic-book-like comedy. You like that, watch this show. You don't like, de-le-ted.

It's not Lost, or Arrested Development, or Breaking Bad, or Dance Idol Loser whatever. The closest show I can think of that's like it is Reaper, and it's not like that either. Neither show really gets better to me - they both seem to know what they are and do it consistently well for my tastes.

Why are the networks assholes (at least as it goes for Chuck)? No one has said Chuck was canceled yet. The network has been really supportive of the show even promoting the hell of it in the Super Bowl. Forgetting what Herc said the early buzz is that it is bubble show that is tetering towards getting renewed. We might want to hold off trashing the networks until they actually cancel the show.
Now for giving us Leno 5 nights a week on primetime, that you can trash them on.

that the TBC title card means exactly that: the producers have been told that they've got the green light for season 3, and put the card at the end (had they been told the opposite, it would not have been there).
As far as the (hopefully) season finale goes: it was pretty good. The pacing seemed a little off, and I'm really unsure about the Superman ending (even if it was a little foreshadowed). If the network doesn't make liars out of the producers, I hope the showrunners have some good ideas what they're going to do with this game-changer.

    by veritasses

Chuck is just immensely charming in so many different ways.

While it isn't without some minor faults, they make you forgive most of them as it weaves in comedy, action, drama, sweet & tender moments, silly circumstances, nerd culture, as well as themes of trust, friendship, family, romance, heroics etc with remarkable skill. It has likable leads with strong chemistry, good supporting characters, balanced subplots and pacing, a pleasant array of guest actors (from the 80's/90's) and an uncanny ability to tug at various emotional strings in just the right way.

Of course, all of this wouldn't be possible without the consistantly strong writing, directing, music(!), production design, effects, and actors who make it all work (including the always reliable Adam Baldwin). It's a good example of a quality, creative team that's completely in sync with the vision that they want to deliver.

The thing about Chuck though, is that even though it's not a serialized show per-se, you have to watch it from the beginning and stick with it (or at least watch a good number of episodes in succession) as many of it's strengths/charms have to be built over time. This might be it's greatest weakness.

Understandably, there are people who don't like the style of humor or can't get over the premise or just don't like or "get" what the creators are trying to do. But most people (in a _very_ wide demographic) who give it a chance seem to really like the show.

at the end also be a - what are we calling them - Geek Easter Eggs - as a shout out to Back to the Future? We already had the Delorean reference. Seems like even if they aren't sure they were getting renewed, it isn't a slap in the fans (our) faces as much as another movie shout out. I mean originally BTTF wasn't supposed to have sequels - it was more an "and so the adventure continues.." deal. And I can live with that. I don't think they are cliffhanging us as much as saying if we do get cancelled, Chuck and Co. go on to have great adventures! And it was an awesome finale. And all that being said, PLEASE PLEASE bring it back! This is the best popcorn show out there. Great fun once a week. We love it. This goes and I have no reason to watch anything on NBC.

Enough. Chuck can be charming and entertaining, but it can also annoy the piss out of me. They've been leaning on the "in-love-with-Sarah-but-don't-want-to-be-a-spy (what guy in his twenties DOESN'T want to be a spy?!)" crutch so heavy and clumsily that their armpit is chafed and bleeding. Put that shit away. If they get another season ignore that "central emotional conflict" for an ep or two and just have some fun. This isn't fucking Sopranos.

From a Brit: NBC, don't you dare cancel this

    by rickisaac276

I've been with this programme since it's first episode, and whilst I freely admit it's not a ground-breaking show, man is it consistently funny, and often hilarious.
I keep on reading people saying they stopped watching during the second season. Apart from a mid-season lull into predictability, it has been a lot better than the first. The last 5 or 6 episodes alone deserve to bag it a renewal as they've been superb, changing the emphasis and giving Chuck initiative to get rid of the intersect and take control of his destiny.
The cast is excellent, Zachary Levi being a great comic actor. Yvonne Strahovski is amazing, Adam Baldwin a comedy god. And this season has done a much better job at making the buy more and its staff seem integral to the plots, with Jeff and Lester stealing episodes.
The finale was excellent, setting up a game-changer which was required. It's hard for me to criticise because I live in a country which currently has the televisual ambition of a bad Will and Grace episode, so to be able to watch Chuck, albeit online, every week is a great pleasure. I've already come to terms with Terminator being cancelled, an also excellent, interesting show. NBC though is a network currently full of $h%t, Chuck is a show that deserves to keep it's place on their schedules. Hell, I'd even settle for a 13 episode season at the moment. If we lose shows like Terminator and Chuck, and keep Heroes, which hasn't had a truly great episode since the end of the first season, then its not sending out a great message to viewers. Who bother investing in a good show when it just gets cancelled and replaced by Jay (God, I used to be funny) Leno.

    by wcme

Yes, the final 2 eps this year were stellar. That was highly entertaining. The wedding was unbelievable, and the ending was unexpected. I was awaiting what the game changer was - I was much better with CHUCK being instantly programed like DOLLHOUSE with "code" to know how to fight, defuse a bomb, whatever then I was when last years BIONIC WOMAN did the same thing as part of her bionics... and his dad having an INTERSECT too! AWESOME! That was one hell of a cheese stake! Well done all! A great night of tv between that and jack screaming about President Palmer on 24. Anyone watching HEROES instead of this mix of geek has their head stuck firmly in the sand.

The single most entertaining show on TV

    by fromage

I'm a long time lurker and registered just to post in this talkback. I'm a pretty selective TV watcher (BSG, The Wire, etc.) and I have to say, from the first time I saw it I was a fan of Chuck. I jumped in near the middle of season 2 and liked it so much that I went back to watch all of season 1. Then I re-watched the beginning of season 2 (thank you, Hulu) and have been anxiously awaiting new episodes ever since.

Some people have said that there were slow episodes in the middle of the season, but honestly even the slowest was more entertaining than 99% of the other shows on TV. And now at the end of the season it seems like every episode keeps raising the bar for comedy and action. What I find most encouraging is that the writers are smart: the MacGuffin was getting a little old, so at the season's end they've thrown in about six different game-changers that can't be written away. Next season should be different and highly entertaining. And hell, this last episode was frackin' fantastic.

Herc, you should totally watch this. Anyone who enjoys James Bond or the Pink Panther should watch this. Hell, everyone should watch it. If NBC doesn't bring it back I will be sorely disappointed.

about the title of this episode

    by stlost

"Chuck vs. The Ring" could have two meanings. First, the ring signifies the wedding, of course. But at the end with the bad guys, didn't the lead baddie mention something about them being a different spy group, called The Ring (or part of the ring?)

It does say series finale on one part of the page but then says season finale on like 8 other parts of the page/site so hopefully it is just a mistake. If they cancel this show and replace it with more celeb reality crap I am boycotting NBC completely. the only other show I watch on NBC anyways is Heroes and I may be too bitter to even watch that next year of the screw us and Chuck over.

    by mooly

When Lester gives directions to the wedding band about 4/4 time and watch him for the changes...that was directly from Back to the Future when Marty plays Jonny be Good at the Prom.
Anyway, the finale was fantastic and I loved every second of it. Sara has finally made a clear choice to be with Chuck, Chuck has finally decided what he wants to do, and now not only does he have the intersect, but Orion's computer and Kung Fu. Chuck is now the super soldier/spy he's always envied these past two seasons.

I found Chuck entertaining, but got tired of the constant whining about wishing he had a normal life. The same thing turned me off Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I mean I get it, your life sucks, but talking about that sucking all the time doesn't make me care more.
They did well to wrap up issues and would be poised to go forward as a different show if given the opportunity, but I'm fine with shutting down the Chuck story were it stands. I feel I got closure that is so rare these days. Also, some shows have to go bye-bye to make room for all that Jay Leno I won't be watching this fall.

I don't think any fan of Chuck is going to try to tell you it's a masterpiece, but it works. It's got charm, and a variety of other elements that make it entertaining. Even outside the geeky confines here, most seem to have an affection for the show. I have a feeling it will return, but if it doesn't, then I can remove NBC from my channel list.

This show is an all around entertaining show. And I will be disappointed if it is cancelled.

Regarding it being Chuck or Medium to get the axe next year; the logical choice would be Medium. Simply because Medium is a 10pm show. Is it really suitable for a timeslot any earlier than that? I doubt it.

    Chuck finale

    by regdunlop

Yes, it was a grand finale. I have resigned myself that there are no good TV shows left. BSG and Chuck were the only ones worth watching, and now they are history. Perhaps I will read a book and sell my TV, I dunno. I do know one thing: Network Television can suck it until it falls off. Never in my life have I witnessed such crappy television. I thought it was bad in the days of friggin Love Boat. "The Apprentice"??? What in the name of sweet baby Jesus is that all about? "Dancing with the Stars"? Fuck me stupid! It's not a reality show when the situations are scripted. If you want a reality show, have a supposed star join the military for a year or get a real job like cab driver or hotel maid. CBS, NBC and ABC can eat it. P.S. Jim Belushi? Really? Really?

I agree. I saw BTTF at the theaters and the "To be continued" was always there. Because we always talked about what would happen next, when they went into the future. It's just we didn't expect them to make the sequels.

    Reply to Talkback

  • You make a good point that Medium, and all other weeknight 10pm shows, are the logical choice. It seems obvious, between a show that airs at 8, and a show that airs in Jay Leno's new timeslot, which one will not be around next year. However, they could put Heroes on at 8 and Medium at 9. Or is Heroes too gory for 8pm?

    by big jim

think there's more to come in BTTF. The entire last scene, including the line "Something's got to be done about your kids" is designed to do just that. I don't recall one way or the other if the words were there at the end of the film because it was the scene itself, and what was said in the scene, that had us talking about what might happen next. I do remember that I did expect sequels, whether it was because of the final scene, or because the film also ended with "To Be Continued". Maybe I'm too literal but when I see TBC I expect those involved have plans to continue the story. Same as I did last night.

"To Be Continued" I think that they will return for season 3 to continue the story.

When I saw BTTF "To be continued" I didn't necessarily think they would continue the movie series. It was a hope that they would make it, but there was almost a 5 year gap between 1 and 2, so you didn't really expect them to make another one.

You are wrong man, It's on the commentary and it's right here on WIKI - According to Zemeckis and Gale, when the film was released on VHS, Universal added a "To be continued..." caption at the end to increase awareness of production on Back to the Future Part II and Part III. It was removed when the film was first released on DVD in 2002. I don't want to start a argument over it, but I know for a fact that was not there originally. Go look it up.

The answer is no. Heroes is, however, too shitty for 8 pm.

This was a great season finale, and I completely agree - one of the few things keeping me watching network television at all. If Chuck goes, the only thing network'll be good for is local sports. Ah, well. Sucks to be NBC (or ABC or CBS, etc.).

chuck kicked butt. bring on another season.

    by hellnback

earlier in the season, the producers said they wanted to take the show on a different direction if there was a third season. with the finale it's obvious they meant it. they did say they wanted to leave the buy more but keep the characters and place them under a new job. and now chuck went and learned kung fu the matrix way so it's obvious they wanted chuck to be a part of the action next year. i don't think casey will be picking on chuck anymore. and it's possible more scott bacula would return being as how he's also an earlier version of the intersect. so they were planning on changing things up. but now we just have to see if NBC decides to bring it back.

also heroes was a let down. they didn't even show the big fight. meanwhile on chuck, chuck went and kicked serious butt and they showed that.

Chuck is not the best show on TV but it really is fun. The show is full of references to SciFi/action shows and movies from Tron to Terminator that most of us would understand. It's also nice to see Jayne(Adam Baldwin)from FireFly as one of Chucks handlers. The females are all hot hot hot and most of the other guys are familiar to all us geeks. I hope Chuck isn't over but if so I will always remember the last words he uttered... "Wow, I know Kung Fu" and yes it came after a very Neo/Matrix like sean that had me clapping and laughing out loud.

    Man. What a finale.

    by bytor

That's some damned good TV right there. Highlights:

Chevy Chase. Where's this guy been for, well, all of his career? (There were small glimmers in his guest-spot on Law & Order a couple years ago, but still.) "If you're not back in half an hour, I'll kill your sister. Eh...let's make it 40 minutes with traffic." (I'm sure I've bollixed that up, but you get the gist.) "Oh, I forgot the threat part." "Oh, I'll still kill you. But you should root for me anyway. Nobody likes a cynic."

Bruce Boxleitner. "Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian ruin your wedding?" Classic.

Adam Baldwin. "Third: you didn't ask me to help." "No, that will clash with the bunting." "Chuck me." Plus the whole bit with the radiator. This guy makes me laugh every week. Often just with his facial expressions.

Agent Walker in her panties. Dear Lord.

Jeff and Lester. "As one stalker to another, I'm impressed." "Mind if I get right?" Mr. Roboto.

Scott Bakula. What a perfect guy to add to the extended cast. It's like he's been there from the beginning.

    "I know Kung Fu."

This show better come back. As bad as Heroes is now, it makes no sense if Heroes survives and Chuck goes away, unless Chuck is much more expensive (which seems unlikely).
