‘I Just Started To Believe You!!’ Antepenultimate DOLLHOUSE!!

I am – Hercules!!
Everybody loved “Spy in the House of Love,” the “Dollhouse” episode Fox broadcast two weeks ago, and I wasn’t alone in hailing it the series’ best installment to date. Entertainment Weekly said:
… On one level, this episode was a fetishist's dream, sure to be freeze-framed for months to come. This was creator Joss Whedon and his collaborators' witty way of playing with the series premise, that the "dolls" are attractive women and men programmed to serve the wishes of their "clients" (who, as we gaze at them, implicitly includes us). This idea has become far more interesting in the past few weeks, as we learn more about how Dushku's character is struggling soulfully to regain her original identity, and the mythology of Dollhouse becomes ever more rich. …
The Newark Star-Ledger said:
… When Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku and everyone else associated with "Dollhouse" were busy talking up episode six as The Greatest Story Ever Told, why couldn't they have slipped in a mention that episode nine would be pretty awesome, too? If anything, this is the episode that feels like it could cure my lumbago, pay my mortgage and cook me a Spanish omelet, it was that good. …
The AV Club said:
… offered many reasons why Dollhouse deserves a second season, not all of them having to do with Eliza Dushku strutting around in dominatrix gear. …
IF Magazine said:
… There is a hell of a lot going on in this episode, answering questions while whetting our curiosity with others. One thing the series has already proved, something that seemed an impossibility at the outset, is that it can indeed keep us engaged in and sympathetic to the adventures and troubles of people with shifting identities. Now that DOLLHOUSE is rolling out its narrative agenda, it is proving to be unique and fascinating. Let’s hope it gets a chance to expand its musings on personality, need, responsibility and duplicity into another season.
So of course Fox managed to speed-bump any building buzz momentum by pre-empting "Dollhouse" last week. If you missed it, you can still watch all of “Spy in the House of Love,” the episode that got me calling the lead actress Eliza Tushcute, right here right now: The good news is tonight’s episode was written by “Buffy”/”Galactica” heavy-hitter Jane Espenson and “Dr. Horrible” scribes Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. The bad news is “Haunted” is said to harken back to the Fox-prescribed stand-alone episodes no one enjoys. Espenson also scripts next week’s penultimate episode, “Briar Rose,” which gets deep deep deep into the Dollhouse mythology. “Angel”/“Firefly” strongman Tim Minear writes and directs the next episode, “Omega,” which will serve as the season finale for Fox. But. Series mastermind Joss Whedon directed an extra episode, “Epitaph One,” which Fox does not intend to air (unless, perhaps, Fox elects a few weeks from now to pick “Dollhouse” up for another season). Non-U.S. markets will air “Epitaph One,” set (get this) 30 years after the events of “Omega,” and it will appear on the DVD and Blu-ray sets coming July 28. Fox says of tonight’s “Haunted”:
When Adelle's wealthy friend is murdered, Adelle imprints Echo with the woman's memories and personality to solve the case. Ballard looks into Mellie's past, and Topher secretly programs Sierra for an engagement. Guest Cast: Amy Acker as Dr. Claire Saunders; Reed Diamond as Laurence Dominic; Miracle Laurie as Mellie; Aisha Hinds as Loomis; Rhea Seehorn as Jocelyn Bashford; Brenda Bakke as Margaret Bashford; Jordan Bridges as Nicolas Bashford; Gregg Henry as William Bashford; Ian Anthony Dale as Jack Dunston.
Hopefully Adelle’s wealthy friend won’t decide to run off with Caroline’s hot young body. Does that sound like something a wealthy friend of Adelle’s would do? 9 p.m. Friday. Fox.
