Nicktoons On Friday Launches Teen Tony In IRON MAN: ARMORED ADVENTURES!!
I am – Hercules!!
The same plane crash that kills daddy Howard Stark injures 16-year-old son Tony, who soon sees the installation of powerful artificial heart in his chest. He also finds himself attending public high school with pals Pepper and Rhodey.
Entertainment Weekly gives it an “B+” and says:
… What could've been a clunky retrograde reboot works surprisingly well, thanks to some smart writing and stellar CG butt-kickery.
The Boston Herald gives it a “C+” and says:
… The anime style is bright but off-putting. Characters often walk in a style reminiscent of those old “Thunderbird” shows. Action sequences don’t have the payoff theydeserve. The voice-over work, a hallmark of rival Warner/DC productions, is adequate at best. …
ToonZone says:
… turns out to be a lot of fun, and the new setting might also be why the show feels more appropriate for the younger-teen audience of the Nicktoons network than Wolverine and the X-Men, which feels as though its darker urges are constantly straining against what they're allowed to do on TV. It's definitely a good deal better than the Invincible Iron Man DTV that hit a few years ago. …
Variety says:
Misguidedly rewiring Iron Man's origin story to transform the industrial magnate into a teenage hero a la Spider-Man, the animation and storytelling in "Iron Man: Armored Adventures" looks OK once the title character blasts into action but sputters the rest of the time. As with Marvel's X-Men spinoff for Nicktoons, the series is loud and lively enough to possess some appeal among young boys, but disappoints in terms of the more ambitious storytelling that characterizes the best recent boy-oriented action entries. …
7 p.m. Friday. Nicktoons.

making the mandarian a mecha bad guy was the wrong call.
Isn't that part of the dynamic Iron Man (tech) vs. the Manadrian (magic) what is appealing??
still waiting for watchmen babies. -
looks ok... i guess
-
Teen Iron Man?
-
since 1990s.
-
...Teen Tony Stark gets hooked on weed. Demon In A Bong. Then he gets tipsy on NyQuil and sells pills from Rhodey's medicine cabinet.
-
Following X-Men Babies and, soon, Thor Babies (from the Hulk vs. folks). Yay babies!!
-
Marvel is repeating its mistakes of the past
why the crap animation? when you have a proved franchise thats making you money wh yantagonise the fanbase with subpar animation?
Why make tony a kid? why mess with the continuity?
Stupid stupid Marvel. -
the 90's. It's been 10 years. I wish marvel would wake up and stop treating the kids like morons. Sigh...
-
... I'll just save myself the time and hit myself in the crotch with a ball peen hammer.
-
this started over here a few weeks ago and yeah.....bad bad bad. there was this other sci-fi show using the same style of animation that was on a few years ago and its just creepy and odd. and yes whoever thought to make it about a teen stark was stupid. this will probably last just as long as that mtv spider-man series.
-
I swear, I never even heard about this thing till reading this article just now, it completely flew under the radar for me. That said, seriously, there are only three words I can think of right now: WHAT THE FUCK???Let me get this straight: You do a movie centered on what most people consider to be a B-Level hero and it turns out AMAZINGLY great. In fact, it turn out to be one of the BEST superhero movies ever made and totally cleans up at the box office. Literally HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS are made (no small chump change when compared to the often slender profits that publishing comics usually pulls in) due to the hard work and reinvention vision put forward by Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. Good for you. Your B-character is now an A-character, the world is in love with him, they now identify Tony Stark with Robert Downey Jr and his hip, charismatic swagger, you move forward with a sequel that will likely bring you even more HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS down the road, so what do you do next? You get greedy and decide to milk it even more by putting out an embarrassingly shitty cartoon. One that is totally FUCKED from the ground floor up and concept stage because you were literally DUMB ENOUGH to think the world...coming on the heels of the Downey movie...wants to see a fucking TEENAGE Tony Stark? Yeah, that's JUST what I was clamoring for! A cartoon that has NOTHING to do AT ALL with the movie that actually got me excited about the character.Seriously, to the Marvel execs and other money whore tools that work there: FUCK YOU. BLOW ME. Nobody wants this shit platter you're serving up, so take it back to the kitchen while we wait for the REAL course to be brought to our tables: Downey in IRON MAN 2.
-
The Spectacular Spider-Man is an absolutely terrific show - it's the best Marvel animated series ever, in fact. It's well written, fun and funny and has terrific action scenes the movies would do well to take influence from. That being said, the other current Marvel animated series are lacking, especially Iron Man, which is such a missed opportunity.
-
for recognizing the quality of the voice work coming out of the DC/Warner animation studios.
-
Well?
-
Only a handful of episodes sucked out right. Parts were a tad muddy and character revisions hurt my traditional grasp. Overall it wasn't bad. No Batman Brave and Bold but not total shit.
-
Lucas is doing the same thing with the Clone Wars series - hooking in younger viewers to give the franchises fresh legs.
Obviously this has worked for Lucas (note the ratings - and my son's class still likes all things SWCW) so Marvel is doing the same. No big deal. All the guys crying about this series as being insulting, well, they are making another big boy movie for you right now.
Everything isn't always about YOU. -
Hooking the kids into being good little consumers with mindless plot.
I've watched Anime with my son since he was an infant. We watch US toons also. Anime tends to treat children like they can think. It offers plots which are not simple feel good vs evil.
Most US toons do NOT do this. Just like most schools do not educate children to think.
It is all about indoctrination. Simple uncomplicated plotting means simple uncomplicated thinking.
Do you want your children to be unable to grasp and understand complex multifaceted issues? Do you want your children to be mindless consumer cheerleaders unquestioningly accepting everything they are told?
Try to examine things a little deeper to see wht they imply. -
Whatever happened to that Spiderman cartoon that was on MTV several years ago?
-
Why is no one talking about this? The best GI JOE cartton I've ever seen
Check it out on adultswim.com -
If I want my children to to grasp and understand complex multifaceted issues (and they do) the last place I lead them is TELEVISION.
Books, and lots of them, feed the mind more than the idiot box possibly can. Don't get me wrong, I likes my video entertainment, but the hour they are allowed per day is primarily for entertainment, not education. We take that up during the rest of the day.
I am not execting Iron Man Adventures on Nicktoons to expand my worldview, just entertain my kid. If it does not, we move on. This is a trifle and can be treated as such.
One thing to note, however, is that I agree with you on basic principle that most of the animation put out these days is mind-numbingly bad (Bakugan, Chaotic, etc). I watch animated shows with my kids and we discuss the merits of lack thereof in each.
I am not worried one bit about my kids becoming programmed sheep because I take steps to counterprogram. As a good Dad should.
But let the little guys have thier rocketmen once in a while. -
It IS always about ME! I demand that my childhood grow up with me! Now where's my hard-R ultra-violent M.A.S.K. movie!?
-
M.A.S.K. got delayed due to Matt Trakker’s extended stint in rehab. But fear not! The long-rumored NC-17 A.T.O.M. in now in pre-production in Simi Valley.
-
I actually thought it was pretty good, I only wish they would have carried their plot a little more between episodes. But it had a handful of episodes, then disappeared. Where did it go?
-
it's muppetbabies for Iron Man...why don't they make Batman a teenage superhero too? Actually this might work because little kids will watch just about anything.
-
It wasn't incredibly, but it was well done...well the Peter Parker drama stuff was lame, but the action sequences with Spidey worked and were clearly created with some artistry and passion.
-
Heh. That's an episode of High School Iron Man I'd like to see.
-
Because obviously, kids wont' watch cartoons unless the hero is there age right? *rolls eyes*
I wish they'd take a leaf out of DC and/or 90s Marvel cartoons. Those were awesome because they didn't feel the need to pander to children, whilst still being enjoyable to kids and adults alike.
Hell, 90s Spiderman cartoon managed to make the venom origins sensible and worked the character far better than the comics ever did! They even managed to pull off a semi decent clone wars saga!! -
Has been good but anyone who wants to watch a badass ninja should try to catch episode 2.Not only does a G.I. Joe cartoon character have a joe killing but it kicks so much ass.Oh and this ironman cartoon looks very shitty and I am tired of seeing previews of it on comcast on demand.
-
and that was airing 15 years ago. what's nicktoons' excuse?
-
I'll be waiting on him saying Cowabunga and chowing down on some pizza while doing some breakdancing then riding off on a skateboard. Why piss all over the very setup that made the character well known and successful?
-
...won't work here. Seriously, the fuck were they thinking? We gonna have Teen Hulk next? "You wouldn't like me when I'm angsty"
-
I'm aware that it wasn't kiddy Stark in Next Avengers, I mean the "kid superheroes" thing in general.
Hell, maybe they didn't make Stark a kid in Next Avengers because they knew it WOULDN'T FUCKING WORK -
or is everything farmed out to asia? and a teen tony stark? bleehhhh
-
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! to infinity+1
-
Oh wait, DC wouldn't stoop to that low. They'll just use their teen heroes to get the young demographic. I mean it's not like Marvel doesn't have young superheroes. Why not market them instead of twisting an adult hero whose entire backstory and character is built on his being an adult?
-
and he had to kill his older evil self. Got to be the worse story of the 90's. Nothing made sense. Only good thing about heroes reborn was whipping that bull shit out and making him a man again. Just goes to show you how many frigging times the "Tony Stark is an evil douche" story has been done to death. Thanks for opening up old wounds with bad stories and shit cartoons, marvel!
-
but that would actually be cool. Instead we'll get more shit about the crappy movie.
-
...have to look like the unholy bastard children of Bruce Timm and Japanese animu? And what's with the Gamecube Wind Waker graphics? I'd take cheap cel animation over this crap any day. Fuck sake, Marvel.
-
Why in the hell does a newly introduced supaheeeero always have to stop a speeding, runaway train? At least it was sort of original in Spiderman and funny in Incredibles... enough, now! Next time... stop a... BUS!
-
Except you are kind of full of shit.
Educational tv channels, History channels, various other rather in depth niche programming channels like Freespeech tv none of those illustrate anything in depth or complex.
You lose that one bitch.
-
I'll talk about it. First ep- Major Blood dead, Bazooka dead, and Cobra Commander kills ten million in Moscow. They ain't fucking around this time.
-
Nice retort.
TV programming can get you interested in a subject, but that is about it. There is inadequate time to cover most anything in depth. Unless it was made by Ken Burns, that is.
But hey, if you think an hourly program makes you an expert on something, I'm sure you're a fucking genius by now.
Don't bother with MENSA, brother, you are on a different level than the rest of us. -
I was a kid once, and I NEVER needed my superheroes to by my age in order for me to be interested or to "relate". Fuck this pandering shit!
-
What the hell was that supposed to be anyway? A trailer? A tease? A hodgepodge of loosely connected crap?
-
Seriously. THAT is how you handle an animated series based off of a character who currently has a feature film franchise going on at the same time. Use the same idea and aesthetics but go in your own direction. If you're worried about going somewhere that the feature films may in the future (ie, using villains and storylines that may appear in the sequels)- DON'T WORRY. They are two separate projects- no one will get confused. No need to make Tony a teenager just to be different. Kids love Adult Iron Man.
-
Unscripted has a point.
-
Watching my second episode ever right now. They've made Aquaman a total idiot. This is hilarious. Random Blue Hero I'm not Familiar With: "They're replicating!!" Aquaman: "Yes! And they're making more of themselves too!"
-
I'd love to see a creepy, animated Ben Linus type on tv. Make it so, Michael Emerson.

Look how Nicktoons are fucking up Wolvie & The Xmen!
by hollywoodhellraiser
They replay the same eps whereas Canada has already aired the first season!Nicktoon is a fucking terrible network!
-
That's the thing that worries me is they wont make a sequel cause everyone will be dead by then!
-
ACOD's law states all cartoons suck. A teenage Iron Man? I got bored watching the commercial. Thanks for nothing.
Has there ever been a good cartoon of a super hero? Don't say Batman it was really boring. -
Very good. And Batman the Animated Series was flat out great.
-
And Iron Giant (Superman!!!)
Movies, yes, but also cartoons.
Brad Bird rules all. -
I have to admit the show was really entertaining and very well done. I still hate the whole "teen" Iron Man concept, but the show was a blast. The animation--the movement was excellent. I look forward to the next shows.
-
Most animation has been sent over to Korea or Japan for decades, 2D included.
-
You are forgetting the excellent Batman: Beyond, which was sadly ignored by its contemporary idiot young audience when it was originally on the air.
-
The thing that let batman beyond off the hook was that he wasn't teen Bruce Wayne, it was another person entirely. Not to mention old Bruce was a prominent character on the show, acting as "the brains" of the outfit. When the show aired i was disgruntled, because i felt the batman identity was a legacy. The title would go to Dick or Tim, not some random street punk. But the show was well produced and had a lot of quality episodes, many of which focused on Bruce or his old rogues gallery, so i enjoyed it.

Oh, and the epilogue episode of Justice league unlimited..
by anakinsdiapers
redeemed Terry Mcguiness in my eyes.
-
boy this looks bad
-
about something they haven't seen yet. Big surprise.
-
Damn first spectacular spider man, those teen avengers and now this shit? what the fuck is up with marvel? I don't want brats saving my world. The CGI is ok, but i'm more impressed with hand drawn ol skool animation especially when it comes to anime. oh and the intro song is so fucking dumb.bring on the 95 season of ironman against this shit anyday.
-
'nuff said.
-
That's the funniest thing I've read in the last ten minutes.
-
If yet gonna do Batman in a cyberpunk future, just adapt Batman: Digital Justice and use old school, Lawnmower Man era CGI. That would be trés cool.
