Rodriguez and Trejo In June Start Wielding MACHETE!!

Published at:  Apr 24, 2009 3:23:58 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

They just fucked with the wrong Mexican!!

I looks like “Machete” will soon be sliced onto more than a single reel!

The unexpectedly deadly day laborer first introduced in my favorite mock “Grindhouse” trailer will now serve as the title character in a feature expected to start shooting in June.

Danny Trejo, who played the title character in the pretend trailer, returns to headline the motion picture.

Robert Rodriguez, who created the trailer, wrote the feature's script and will co-direct with longtime editor Ethan Maniquis.

Variety has the premise:

Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

Will "Lost" star Jeff Fahey reprise his role as the state senator?

That's one question not answered in the Variety story on the matter found here.

Were are updates on the coolest project that he could make: Red Sonja. What's the matter? Rose Mcgowan is not sucking his dick and swallowning his cum like she did at the audition for Grind House. Robert Rodriguez would rather direct this and those crappy fast food kids movies than Red Sonja. What a bunch of bullshit.

To do Red Sonja right, and without making it look cheap, would require a good amount of pre-production. And since Rose Mcgowen is the lead, they are going to need to hire some awesome supporting cast to compensate for her lack of range. I'm thinking.... The Rock, Rosario Dawson, and the guy that played the part of Geoffrey Chaucer from A Knights Tale. That might be enough to keep me from focusing on how one-dimensional rose mcgowen's acting is.

I'm not a huge Rodriguez fan, but really liked "Planet Terror" and think that the "Machete" trailer is one of the most awesome things ever made. I'm glad he's making this, but hope that he doesn't go the "Grindhouse" route with missing scenes and digitally aged "film". That trick was played out before the credits rolled on the theatrical "Grindhouse".

    Knuckleduster... 100% agree

    by f69

I live in the UK and Grindhouse was one of my most anticipated movies back in 2007. Then they scraped the early summer release date, pushing it back about six months and spliting it into two seperate films. To this day I still haven't seen either movie and I refuse to until they finally get their shit together and release a definative DVD that contains both films back to back with all the mock trailers. It still makes my head spin at how they were able to create such a monumental clusterfuck of the UK release and make people like me, who were looking forward to this flick actually end up boycotting it on principle.

  • Seriously, dude's got some kids movie coming out soon, he's got Red Sonja somewhere in early development, he's attached to remake Barbarella, he's now going to be doing a Predator movie (fucking sweet that is), and now he's making Machete!!! This is a crazy amount of projects to be developing simultaneously. Or did I miss something and one of those Rose McGowan-starring remakes has fallen by the wayside?Either way, I love Rodriguez even if I don't love all of his movies (Once Upon a Time in Mexico was a really shitty way to cap off an otherwise great series), so this is good news for me. The idea of Predators making a big-screen return that won't involve raping the possibilities of Aliens vs. Predator is reason enough to get me very excited. But news that Danny Trejo is going to fuck people up as Machete all feature-length style is just awesome on so many levels. Trejo is a fucking badass and he deserves a big, meaty leading role. I can't wait.

    by fiester

It's the best show on cable right now, hands down. The last two episodes have been fucking riveting viewing. But the AICN gurus don't tend to favor shows like that for some reason. For instance, they seemed to dislike The Shield as well. Why some shows get talkbalks while others do not is a mystery to me--especially when they give them to piece-of-shit reality shows.

    Danny Trejo is a professional

    by continentalop

True story: I met him very briefly while I was working at a sound house and he had come in to do some ADR (can't remember name of the movie, but it was a low budget rip off of the Usual Suspects). While he waited in the kitchen for his turn to do ADR, he talked to me and a couple of co-workers and the guy was all class. He talked about how grateful he was to have a career and thanked us for being fans of his; I mentioned I was a big fan of his late buddy Edward Bunker so Danny told us a couple of stories about him; joked around when I mentioned I was in LA County once, and then talked to another co-worker of mine who is an ex-con, and the talked about how important it is to stay in the Program. Then he went in to do ADR and some no-name dude came out talking on his cell phone complaining about what a small time facility this was and how he shouldn't be doing ADR today because his voice is soar and he wasn't feeling it today.
Danny Trejo = Professionalism of the highest order.
