Last week they dropped the new opening title sequence featuring the Michael Scott Paper Company, so I gather it’s not long for this world.

Michael’s new company struggles to make early morning deliveries while the office tries to get their expense reports in on time after Angela enforces Dunder Mifflin’s policy.


Next week:
CASUAL FRIDAY
Michael has to mediate a dispute within his new sales team. Meanwhile, trouble brews in the office when several employees take the term “casual” Fridays too loosely.


May 7:
CAFÉ DISCO
Michael enters the cafe-disco business. Meanwhile, Pam and Jim decide to take a secret trip.


May 14:
COMPANY PICNIC
Season finale.


Pam looks likely to be joining Dunder Mifflin as a salesman, as does Ryan.

Kelly Erin, the new receptionist, is expected to keep her job even subsequent to Pam’s return.

“The Wire” vets Idris Elba and Amy Ryan will both appear in the fifth season finale because ALL the Dunder Mifflin branches will be brought together for a giant company picnic.

    Meanwhile, The Unusuals was very good last night. Really enjoying that new show. Better off Ted wasn't too bad either but they made the boss too nice at the end.

    I absolutely love the show, but I do have one major complaint. Is Chuck at least on the CIA/NSA payroll? Are they paying him? That really bugs me. Especially when that ill tempered rude general from the NSA pops up on the screen. I'd be like: "Sure General. Understood. Where's my fucking check by the way? I've been risking life and limb for this country and without so much as a penny thrown my way. If you want me to go along with this Intersect garbage you better pay up". It's just wrong, and another example of how our government sees us all as sacrificial lambs. You'd think they would pay the poor guy. God damn that pisses me off!

    This show has LOST IT

    Seasons 1 and 2 were great. After that, it was a slow downward spiral into mediocrity.

    And most of that is the fact the writers have fallen in love with their retarded adult Michael Scott. so much they created a second, lesser Michael, in the form of Andy Bernard. They DESTROYED a great character in Jan Levinson by turning her into a simpleton. They injected reality show drama into the Pam/Jim relationship by relying on alternating shots of a depressed Pam and a depressed Jim. The only thing that still keeps this show alive is Dwight and the background cast of Stanley, Phyllis, Angela, Oscar, Kevin, Toby, Creed and Meredithd (I could give or take Kelly, though Mindy Kaling is a good writer). The only Michael stuff I can really stomach anymore is his useless picking on Toby.

    It used to be a rather realistic show, about life in ANY job. Then Michael started testing high and it became about him. The occasional trips out of the office tested high, so now every episode is a field trip.

    So they take all the retardnesness they've boiled "The Office" down to, get proud of themselves, and make a new show about absolute mental retards running a parks and recs department. Brilliant! I'd rather watch an hourlong about maids cleaning up hooker blood with a ShamWow.

    They've truly fucked this show up to the point I've stopped watching. And THESE are the guys giving us Ghostbusters III?

    Just wondering where the Supernatural fans will be gathering, now that it's finally back.

    You know, I've watched The Office from the beginning, and I haven't noticed any significant drop in quality exactly...yet I'm not looking forward to it as much as I used to. Last week's ep is still on my DVR even. Did I change, or the show?

    I checked out Survivor for the first time ever. That Coach dude is a real-life mashup of Michael Scott and Dwight Shrute. (or maybe I should say real-life, quote-unquote. I don't know.) If Dwight were to ever meet him, I think he'd say "Douche" to him, but pronounce it so that it rhymes with "touche." As in, you out-douched me, well done. I don't know special characters.

    As a character Michael needs to fail because he is a hack as a leader. Ryan should go back to the bowling alley and get demoted, and Pam needs to accept that she's going to stay in that town and start a family with Jim. Nothing wrong there, that's just how it is.

    I watched two episodes, and it's no good. The last episode I saw, the end joke was a female character gluing feathers to her back to fool the researchers.. and they thought it was real! Wow! Shenanigans abound! No thanks. Saw "Parks and Recreation." and Aziz Ansari is still not funny. He always plays characters where the joke is not on him, but on everybody else, including the audience.

    I like the show, but it has a huge problem - the Buy More. I guess the scenes there, and the characters that work there (besides Chuck) are supposed to be funny but they're not. Every character there, especially Morgan, are annoying to the point it makes me angry. Is Chuck ever even at the Buy More? What's the point? It's not funny, it's not entertaining...the show needs to focus on the spy thing and kill all of the Buy More employees.

    ...was so much better than Michael blowing it would've been. This was a great episode, and this has been a great arc. Having the new boss not like him was a great way to do something interesting and new with Jim's character, Pam's finally not a receptionist anymore, and this is a just barely plausible (okay--not really) way of getting Ryan back on the show. But of course what made it really work is that it was consistently very funny.

    Hmmmm, thursday night, supernatrual back after a break, and no where to talk (zone sucks and doesn't count). Herc completely ignored the office, but gave it a shot and now we have a talkback for a show that doesn't have much to discuss... its great, but its a stupid show for a talkback. you do this professionally herc--do the damn work and inform yourself on the great shows you refuse to acknowledge existence of... there's that, but whats even worse is you did acknowledge that Terminator SCC exists, but only when you hear a rumor that it will be cancelled. Why create talkbacks for a show only when there is a rumor of its demise??? Plus, with SCC, you heard from a very, very questionable source. Then, further showing the bias a professional shouldn't have, you make a weekly talkback for a show that the majority of us think is just 'meh' and then when you hear from a legitimate, named, and higher up source that dollhouse is cancelled, you remember to remind us like three times in the article that 'this is not for sure' whereas you seem to enjoy spewing articles about the potential demise of SCC. I have no respect for herc... none. apparently, this is his world and we all just live in it. do your job you fucking geek-site tyrant.

    There has always been more to Micheal then is what is one the surface. sometimes he can be damn brilliant. Sometimes the dumbest thing's he says have very deep meanings to them when you look at them. Also if your not finding the show funny why are you still watching? I for one will admit the show is not as good as it use to be, but you act like this show is the worst thing on tv. It is so far from that, it is still damn good TV. Most people don't watch this show to laugh anymore they care about the characters and there lives. The show can be more then just gags. All great comedy's are.

    Tonight's Office

    was probably - structrually - one of their strongest episodes this season. Micheal was not only typically clueless (delivery boy? Or a loft?) but also typically competent when dealing with David Wallace. Dwight had a Mose/Beet story, a bee story and Jim got some validation about Dwight (I mean, no wonder Jim didn't get along with or respect Charles when he couldn't even see how insane Dwight can be). Micheal, Ryan and Pam had a nice little pity party that was sweet as well as sad and I think Pam's smile when Micheal was turning the screws on Wallace made her feel a bit better about going to work for Micheal, especially after her "kid driving a car" theory. Plus, a running joke with Koreans. Yeah, good ep. I hope they'll have a decent commentary on the DVD for this one.

    Doesn't this prove that Michael really is a racist?

    I saw the episode. The Michael Scott Paper Company fails, but somehow Michael gets his job back, and he immeaditely fires the black guy. He said it emphatically. In past episodes, Michael has made racist statements, but we were led to believe that it was just because he was stupid. Now, I think differently. I think it drove Michael crazy that a black guy had replaced him, and he did everything he could to destroy his career. It worked.

    Michael can be a nice guy, but it doesn't change the fact that he is racist, and he treats non-whites differently than he treats whites. It isn't just because he is stupid or acts like a child.

He looks up to Darrell, often asking him for advice. And he has helped Kelly on more than one occasion (in some of his flashes of kindhearted brilliance) to feel better about herself and get over her low, shallow self image.

    where Sam & Dean met their brother (named after a certain Brady cousin)? schnorbis, Miss Guided was a fun show. Some of the best jokes were in the background. One I loved was behind the VP as he was talking. There was a banner for football championships, which looked brand new, that showed the year of their one and only city title, 1957. Not sure why, but the thought of the school getting that made up every few years, and proudly displaying it, made me laugh.

She has made the penis graffitee joke twice and the mural of the history of pawnee joke twice in two episodes; they've had months to craft this thing and they are already recycling? All of the characters are douchebags (even her mother is a douche - wtf?) w/ the exception of amy and rashida (and her role doesn't even make any sense - she's a nurse; how does she have all this time to hang around local govmt types)? Worst of all - just aint funny; seriously - really seriously just aint funny. at all.

    Great episode, but I really think it has gone about as far as it can go. Gervais knew the premise was going to be short lived from the start; nbc is so desperate it is ordering dozens of additional eps each season so it can sandwich them around crap like Parks and Rec thereby speeding its demise.

    I was thinking - there are so many people out of work these days, why don't we all pitch in and start flooding the networks with pitches and scripts for new (non-mockumentary) programming...there have to be some funnier ideas out there than the running scrabble gag on P&R last night.

    I believed that Michael was just an idiot who believed all of the racial stereotypes, until last night's episode. Michael had no problem with black people working "for" him. The problem for Michael started when a black man took over his position. He couldn't handle it, and he did everything he could to undercut his former company. Look, maybe the writers of "The Office" are not aware that they are writing Michael as a racist character. Maybe the writer's inner racism is hidden even from them. It amazes me that when I tell the truth, as I see it, I am labeled as a "troll". I guess some people can't handle opinions that are different from their own. It would be nice if you could just read things that you like, but so what?   • Have you seen the way he treats Toby? There isn't anyone he treats worse than Toby. Why? Because Toby, as the HR rep, doesn't work for Michael, he works for the company. As far as Michael is concerned Toby is an unnecessary intrusion in his company and is a constant killjoy. Much like the way he felt about Charles being forced on him. Had Charles been played by any actor it would have played out in the exact same way.

Every time he has to sell something to someone he comes across as a charming man with a plan. When he's managing people and interpersonal relationships he sucks horribly. Yes, he definately believes in stereotypes, and while that does make his character a very minor form of racist... but instead of using the word racist, i'd say that he's just very, very ignorant. his character is ignorant in soooo many ways--the character isn't racist, because his character shows his ignorance of soooo many things all across the board. plus, the show doesn't let him get away with it. The show ALWAYS shows the other characters making expressions that make it clear how stupid michael really is. But also, there is no chance in hell he is a racist and the proof of that is when he was doing the auction and the warehouse guys put up a 'go to the bar right now and we'll buy you a free drink' for auction. Michael immediately wants to bid, but they say he needs to keep running the auction so jim bids five dollars and the warehouse guys take it right away. Michael even made a comment that going to hang out with the warehouse guys was one of the things he's dreamt of doing. That and that alone is indisputable proof that michael is not a racist... even a little. Would a racist keep going to black guys for advice? Yes, michael is very, very stereotypical, but there's a big difference between stereotypical ignorance and a racist. I roomed with two defensive lineman football players at USC and gained plenty of black friends. Some of my fraternity brothers would want to come over to hang out with myself and the football players, and that resulted in a fair amount of subtle stereotypical comments, but the huge difference is that my black friends easily laughed about it and responded in some very funny ways that put my frat brothers in their place, but not in any way did it create tension and hostility. So, what i'm getting at, is that black people (or at least all the black friends i have) can easily brush aside ignorant and nonmalicious stereotypical comments, but they will NEVER stand for racist comments and let someone get away with it. I think you're being called a troll, leafar, because you're trying to start a flame war about a very sensative issue that is simply nonexistent, in any way, in the show.

He himself has stated that selling paper is the only thing he knows how to do that is his own making, explained further by his, "If this paper company fails, I'll just start another one; if that one fails, I'll start another one.." last night. He is a weak person perhaps but is generally warm hearted. And not racist. He has no close friends and his childhood seems to be less than desired - he was drawing horses with spikes through their heads before he even knew what a unicorn was, "Couldn't even talk yet. I was five." - and it seems to me a little simplistic to make such a sweeping statement.

    No wasted time--quirky odd moments (the Koreans just getting on the van, one still sitting there, pissed off, was super!). Jim back on top of his game, manipulating Dwight, and Dwight's Plan Bee was fantastic.Michael's mono a mono with David ("I don't have to wait Dunder Mifflin out, I just have to wait YOU out.") was spectacular.This was the best one since the one where Holly thought whatsisname was a Special Needs guy.Welcome Back to Greatness, Office!

    Michael is not a real person. I think the racism is something that the writers have put in. It is something that Michael isn't aware of, due to his stupidity. It is very clear to me that Michael believes in racial stereotypes, and in my opinion that is racism. It doesn't matter to me that his racism stems from his ignorance. I really didn't care about it until the last episode, when he insisted that one of the conditions of his return was that the Black Guy, who replaced him, go away. Michael wanted to be in charge again of his Office. I saw, beneath the surface, the racism that Michael has in his heart come out. In the end Michael got what he wanted. He told the Black Guy that he was done, and he said it in a way the revealed some hatred.

    Someone earlier talked about being friends with Black football players, and that is a good example. Michael thinks of himself as the Coach of his team, and he has no problem at all with Black people being part of his team, and he will go out of his way to get them to like him. He wants everyone to like him. However, the difference in these recent episodes was a Black Guy had taken over his job. He doesn't like Charles, but he doesn't hate him. He hates Toby, but that is due to many reasons. With the Black Guy it was different. If you think this is "trolling" then so be it. I really don't get what the big deal is about, and why so many people are reacting to this. The character of Michael is a nice and stupid guy played brilliantly by Steve Carell, but I wouldn't be honest with all of you geeks if I said he wasn't a racist. All of the examples that you have given in this talkback about Michael prove my "point of view". BTW, I am very surprised that Rev. Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson have never brought this up. Maybe they will now.

    Yes, Michael disliked Charles, wanted him gone, and even took pleasure at pushing him out of the office. And, yes, Charles is black. But the two are not related. There was nothing in Michael's interaction with Charles to suggest that. Your only argument that Michael is racist, or more correctly, that the writers have made him a racist, is due to the fact that the actor who played Charles is black. Watch it again but don't think of Charles as the "Black Guy", only look at him as Michael's nemesis (like Tobey). Pay attention to the character, not the actor's skin colour.

    zacdilone-- EXACTLY. Lefear--if you really believe michael hates charles, then it makes you (in a certain sense) more of a racist than the writers or michael. When the rest of us looka at Charles, we see an intelligent man who doesn't stand for the rediculous shit michael does. That's how he was written--he was written to be one of the only guys on the show who has ever put michael in his place (and michael definately needed to be put in his place). Its funny you say that the writers are racist, because there is absolutely nothing, and i mean not even a single line, in the writing that says the character needs to be black. If you want to attack anyone with your distorted view of this show, blame the casting directors... the difference between you and us is that we see the character as just another character. you see him and you jump right into the issue of race. When you say that there are racist elements at work, you make it clear when you look at him you see him as a black man. That says a hell of alot about you, because what you see in the show is a black guy first, and a new manager who doesn't stand for michaels shit second.     Actually, I think Zacdilone made a good observation. Yes, I think that Charles is racist too. I think he was written in a way that he took pleasure in telling White people what to do. He saw Michael as the worst example of a White person, or he saw in Michael everything he hated about White people. So, you might say that two, racist characters clashed, and in this story Michael won. I didn't see the racism in Charles until Zacdilone pointed it out. Thanks.

There is nothing you can pluck out from the show that in any way supports it. Therefore, your assertion is as believable as unicorns. It simply has no backbone an falls apart under the most rudimentary scrutiny.

    Angela's expense report enforcement, mentioned in the synopsis, was one line. Still loved the episode, I hope moving forward we get to see more competent Michael, I know therehave always been flashes, but it'd be refreshing to see it just a bit more consistently.
