THE FIGHTER is picking up steam yet again!

Published at:  Apr 21, 2009 3:11:30 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with the rather cool news that the film THE FIGHTER, which was once set to be helmed by Darren Aronofsky and was going to star Mark Wahlberg and Brad Pitt... before everything began to fall apart - giving way to Darren leaving that project to helm THE WRESTLER instead.

I didn't think we'd end up seeing THE FIGHTER get back into fighting, much less shooting shape, but according to Variety - it seems that Relativity Media has come in - and put the film together. Mark Wahlberg has continued to train for this part during its hiatus - and is still attached to play the titular character. Joining him ringside will be Christian Bale - and behind the camera calling the shots will be two time Wahlberg directing genius, David O Russell. This is definitely a film to keep our eyes on. It looks like it is shaping up to be something special!

this movie does sound fucking cool, hopefully wahlberg can rebound from the absolute mess that was "the happening". bale and russell have serious credibility in my book, even though they can both kinda be dicks on movie sets. still, i was way more offended by "the happening" than either of their rants.

    by dr sauch

And its not like he's Daniel Day Lewis, where he's a different person in every movie. Most times, he's playing Christian Bale. Kind of like Denzel Washington, he has one very watchable character that he adapts to different scripts. You need to be careful not to overdo it.

Is a psycho who scuttles his own films before they even get finished, which is why, even if they're good, no one ever sees them. I hear nothing but crazy things about him. I love his flicks though, no doubt. I'm sure im in a heavy minority, but I think Huckabees is one of the absolute funniest movies I've ever seen.

    a little backstory...

    by pecky023

This film is about former welterweight "Irish" Micky Ward. Though Micky was never regarded as the greatest fighter, he was known for his show of heart in the ring and his incredible left hook to the body that could turn the tide of any fight.

From what I know, Mark plays Micky, Bale is to play Mick's half-brother and trainer Dicky Ecklund (who was a welterweight hopeful that fought Sugar Ray Leonard).

Dicky got hooked on drugs and is currently being charged with beating a man to death.

Search YouTube for some of Micky's fights... pretty inspiring. He was a bad ass in terms of being able to take punishment and keep fighting.

There are tons of videos of Micky on Youtube... I suggest checking them out.

Dicky Ecklund can be seen in the documentary "High on Crack Street".

He's never made a great film. He's made a decent one (Three Kings), but never a great one. I Heart Huckabees was alright, but it made me wish I was watching a Charlie Kaufman movie instead.
