Brannon Braga & David Goyer’s Sci-Fi Pilot FLASH FORWARD Going Forward As ABC Series!!

I am – Hercules!!
David S. Goyer (“Blade: The Series”) and Brannon Braga (“Star Trek: Enterprise”) – who earlier collaborated on CBS’ short-lived alien-invasion drama “Threshold” – will see their “Flash Forward” pilot go to series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The sci-fi novel by Robert J. Sawyer.
on which the series is based is about what happens when physicists, conducting a super-high-energy experiment, accidentally cause everybody on the planet to experience two minutes and 17 seconds of his or her own future 21 years hence. A lot of people were driving cars when their consciousnesses left their bodies for more than two minutes, so the experience is memorable for many reasons. Goyer, who wrote and directed “Blade: Trinity” for the big screen, directed the pilot.

Also at ABC, “Eastwick” is “hot” and “V” is “looking good” while "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas" is back in contention, according to the story, which also reports that Fox’s “Human Target,” based on the DC Comics character, is “a shoo-in” to go to series.

At NBC, “Parenthood,” another movie-spawned hourlong from “Friday Night Lights” showrunner Jason Katims, is already interviewing potential staffers, and the Steve Martin sitcom “Community” is “hot,” according to the story.
Unmentioned in the Reporter’s story is the NBC pilot “Day One,” about apartment dwellers dealing with a mysterious worldwide disaster.

hopefully better than blade trinity
-
decent, amongst all of Robert Sawyers novels that I have read, I would say its my least favourite.
-
The problem with Braga and Goyer is that they are too clever for their own good. They have a lot of good ideas that look good on paper, but for one reason or another those ideas dont translate well to the TV screen.
-
fanboy kewl blandness.
-
Wowsah156 said a mouthful and that's what this premise contains. It's not a series idea and is another Threshold.
-
ABC does Lost, so this may actually have a chance, both of being good and lasting more than 13 episodes.
Flash Forward and Day One are all we've got to look forward to after next year: 24 and Lost will be over, BSG long gone... sadly, the era of great and mind-bending TV seems to be drawing to a close. -
It fucks with time, and has the potential for massive amounts of paradox. It's made for him.
Unfortunately, because he's a talentless no-brain hack with all the science acumen of a Bible-thumpin redneck, it'll be shit. -
We're another failed series closer to Braga not getting another one. How many chances is this guy going to get?
-

So they saw their future while they were driving cars.
by derlanghaarige
Does that mean they saw how they were dead, because of the crash that was happened in the same moment when they had this vision? Huh?
-
...from an earlier version of my last post.
Which ironically means that you can see parts of my last post's past. :) -
As I recall, apparantly people who were dead at that 21-year point saw 2 minutes of white noise. Which would include people who died as a result of blacking out at the wheel, they just wouldn't be quite as talkative about the experience.
-
means we may be getting more smart (and short lived) sci fi next season, which is never bad.
-
Much like Sylar and Eli Roth, Goyer and Stanley Tucci must surely be related... even if they don't know it yet.
-
They are still lettng this guy write tv shows? wow
-
Remember, Braga co-produced the horrible Star Trek: Enterprise, with the evil one Rick Bermen (I am Death, the Destroyer of Worlds). Braga also produced "Thresold",which was even worse than Enterprise. Braga must have a lot of friends in Hollywood, because he isn't getting work based on his accomplishments. Personally, I wouldn't let him produce one of my bowel movements, and they can be really nasty. As far as "Flash Forward" goes, it won't get past one 12 episode season. It should be developed as a really good sci/fi movie, because the concept is interesting. However, where the fuck are you going to take this after 7-8 episodes? Please, people, think about what you are doing. A show like "Lost" can go anywhere. It can cover multiple storylines over years. Shit...
-
Not one goddamned new idea or interesting concept listed.
-
He was a jerk during Star Trek, and he is a jerk now!!!
-
Do not go together like a horse and carriage. And I'm boycotting TV series that employ time-travel (Heroes, Lost, Life on Mars, this) until somebody comes up with an idea one-tenth as good as that indie sci-fi movie "Primer."
-
for fame and hot pieces of ass. It's the only way to explain how he got Jeri Ryan and all those writing gigs, and yet he's a talentless knob-jockey.
-
"It can cover multiple storylines over years."
Just like 'Gilligan's Island. -
so how do they keep the story going?...everyone experiences 2+ minutes of their future and then what?...every week we get someone else's future?...everyone's future in 1 episode?...I don't get it...beyond a really cool pilot episode this sounds like crap...'The Nine' all over again
-
This series won't last 5 episodes.
-
And after you cycle through the regular cast's flash-forwards, then what? You keep adding pepople so you can tell their flash-forwards?
And what the fuck is so great about the year 2030 anyway? According to the Mayans, we're all fucked by December 21, 2012 anyway.
-
Flash Forward, Human Target and a Steve Martin sitcom (how the hell did I not hear about that one? He was amazing on 30 Rock recently) all pretty much definites, and possiblity for V and Eastwick remakes, and Day One looming in the background. Maybe we can get some interesting new television to fight the Ghost Whisperers of the world. Now, if any of them can just make it past one season...
And Titus, where's the love? I thought The Nine was GREAT! -
insomuch as everything they touch turn to shit.
Thanks for "Voyager" and "Enterprise", you dickwad! Well, I did kind of enjoy the last season of "Enterprise" a little.
And thanks for bankrupting the country George. Just like everything else you ever touched! But I must admit, I will enjoy drawing unemployment if I can get it. Sitting on my ass and looking at stupid websites like this is by far more productive than actually WORKING. Asshole. At least I get to spend more time with my baby boy... -
was only enjoyable because Braga didn't work on it, and Manny Coto did.
Manny Coto doesn't get half the geek-cred he deserves. -
Soon.
-
Here's some geek-cred fo ya!

"Braga is to sci fi what "W" was to America..." LOL!!!

Kicked ass!
-
what he and that other tool did to star trek is unforgivable.
-
I've seen FLASH FORWARD and it's the kind of thing that LOST fans have been waiting for. It's not a direct rip-off of LOST as some have suggested with the use of flash-forwards, but it's well done within the overall mystery of the series. This isn't another case of LIFE ON MARS where the idea itself is unsustainable for too many episodes. Regarding Braga, I never really cared about STAR TREK or THRESHOLD so sorry he shat on your Saturday Morning Cartoons but I doubt many people were impressed by Carlton Cuse meeting Damon Lindeloff on NASH BRIDGES. Anyone?
-
This guy's writing is completely soulless. In evidence I present to you exhibits A - Star Trek Voyager and B - Star Trek Enterprise. The prosecution rests your honour.
-
One of the best TV-Characters ever. Most of the Holodoc centric episodes were great. Even Enterprise season 3+4 had some pretty good episodes too.
-
Voyager didn't invent the holodeck, it was used often and well in TNG.
Also, why do they include credits for shitty writers "from the people who brought you Star Trek : Enterprise and Paul Blart : Mall Cop and Bratz : The Movie." You should probably keep that a secret if you want anyone to watch this, guys! -
Dude doesn't totally suck.
-
...God did it. Also, the brave physicist character is really an angel. Keep Rick Springfield far, far away from the new Human Target series... but you can keep the giant stealth plane headquarters. Eastwick? Parenthood?? Really??? Now that the whole 80's nostalgia trip is giving out its death rattle, Network TV FINALLY picks up on it? It'd be funny if the apartment dwellers in Day One never get around to actually leaving the apartment building.
-
Holodoc, not holodeck. As in "the holographic doctor". Although I am not sure I can fully credit Braga or anyone on Voyager writing staff with that - I think they just lucked into a good actor for the role, one of the only for the series...
-
That entire season only produced 2 hours of watchable TV, and that was 'In a Mirror, Darkly'. The rest was a series of completely uninteresting 3-parters. Season 3 may not have worked out that well, but you have to admit at least it had balls to try a single 24-part story arc. In retrospect, seasons 1 and 2, which people complained the most about, ended up being the 2 best seasons of Enterprise.
-

Let's not forget Manny Coto put the final nail in the coffin
by smackfu
not Braga. At the end of Season 3 the bigwigs at least saw potential that the show could be salvaged, after Manny was through with it they drove it out to the desert and didn't even bother covering the grave.
-
The last season of Enterprise was the only one watchable at all... I could not care less if it was canceled after 3rd season, but after 4th I was actually upset to see it go...
-
Now I know what to play on the ol' tele tonight.
Primer fucking rules. -
But the damage had already been done by the time Coto came on board. If it wasn't for that shitty Holodeck series ending with Riker and Mrs. Troi-Riker, it would have been even better.
-
and completely collapses by the end. The first hundred pages are excellent. But by the middle of the book you start losing interest in the characters and the story just starts dragging. As someone above said out of all his books, this is the worst. I am sure the pilot and first few eps will be great. But the end is 21 years in the future. This would make a great British series that lasted 2 maybe 3 seasons of 6 or so episodes each. As a 22 episode series for numerous years (if they don't get canceled) I cant imagine the series still being interesting even after a year. Who knows though. Final thought - I hope the V remake never airs. Why can't they just use some of the original cast and some new cast and let it be 20 years later.
-
The TV series, as I understand it, is based only on the premise of the book, not the plot. I don't even think the characters are the same.
-
... what the everlasting hell is up with the Indy Jones Crystal Skull action figure? He looks even more dessicated than Harrison Ford himself.
-
Hey I love scifi so I'm hopeful. But even without it being the same characters, or the same plot .... I'm not sure how great a 22 episodes per year series this would make. Also with all the genre shows getting killed again- will we even see the ending to this series. Chances are not good yknow.

Good for them.

How many times do these guys have to fuck up before they get the boot? They must give great meeting.

I'm a fan of Robert J. Sawyer's books, so I was hopeful when I saw "Flash Forward" was bought to become a tv show. Goyer's not bad, and occasionally excellent, when he collaborates with the right person or people. My worry here is that Brannon Braga is NOT the right person. Braga has worked on "Enterprise," "Threshold," and several episodes of "24," among other things. He's brought light-hearted, predictable television to many households over the years, but he's never brought anything truly dramatic, ass-kicking, or thought-provoking to anything he's ever worked on. He's light, predictable, and family friendly, like a kiddie fun circus ride.
This is not who I want working on "Flash Forward." Maybe Brannon will surprise me, and I hope he does, but I don't associate his name with any show that ever really grabbed me. Quite the opposite, actually. "Enterprise" was so boring and panty-waste incarnate, that I'm surprised anyone hires him for anything now. Yes, everybody makes bad decisions they must live with and learn from, but Braga wouldn't be my choice to run a show that has such dramatic, tantalizing, mind-bending potential.
I'm glad they're making "Flash Forward," but I'll be surprised if it grabs my attention.
I hope I'm wrong. -
I agree with tristeele, Flash Forward the book is average at best. I picked it up after hearing about the upcoming series here on AICN. The scope of the book is so narrow, given its premise. The flash forward vision is actually a pretty cool idea and could have led to an epic storyline....but it doesn't. Its full of melodramatic soap opera dialog and its main drama involves a character trying to prevent his own future murder. Combine that with the fact that Sawyer's writing is, in my opinion, fairly amateurish. Its the only book I have read by him so maybe this one wasn't a good example of his talent.
BUT, any sci fi on TV is a good thing. From what I hear, only the interesting idea of the flash forward it being used (the only good part of the book) and everything else is being altered. I will definitely give it a few episodes. Here's hoping for the best. -
Truth is, he's had a hand in about 6 or 7 of the episodes that have aired so far this year. But as is typical for 24, he's one of two or three people who get credited for an episode. There's no episode which is all his work.
You can check wikipedia to see which ones he was involved in. A story-by co-credit means he was involved in breaking down the episode. Teleplay, means he wrote some of the words. And someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the credits aren't listed alphabetically, but according to how much work they did. So if it's Mr. x, Mr. y, then Mr. Braga, he had the minimum contribution of those three. -
I liked that show, ha ha!
Just checked IMDB, woah, 6 seasons?? Not sure if it was that good. -
What if a person is dead 21 years hence? What do they experience in the flash forward?
-
really? who's been asking for this?
-
Like a digital cable channel gone offline. Zip Zilch Nothing. So while everyone else is talking about what they saw, they just shrug and say "nothing happened to me" and then realize what that means.
-
He's been selected as the writer-in-residence here at the Synchrotron lab at the U of S here in Saskatoon (Canada). I wonder what he'd write about the light particle lab here. Maybe we all go blind.
-
next time you have a chat with any of the guys from lost, could you ask them if they ever heard of an abc show called, "the new people"? just saw a promo for it on youtube, and omg...its the same fucking show
-
Got sent a review copy of this on DVD over the weekend.
Promising. Verrry promising. Bad special effects in certain places though.... -
... that won't make it 5 episodes without being put on hiatus or it's timeslot changed...
-
It might work as a mini series, more than that, theres not enough material. In any case, its a great concept, but the book doesn't live up to it. Robert J. Sawyer is brilliant with creating mouth watering high concepts, but I would say this is his worst book.
-

FACT: ABC will cancelled it 35min into its first episode.

It's not a bad book, but not exactly suited for episodic television. If they wanted to turn a Robert Sawyer book into a series, they should have picked Starplex.
-
I agree, j_brisby. "Starplex" could've become "Stargate SG-1" with an actual pulse, and possibly a lot more. "Flash Forward," however, mimics the "Lost" flashback format with its own flashforward format, though "Lost" is now already doing that.
I'm mostly happy for Robert J. Sawyer, since he gets a big paycheck and gets to see one of his stories hit television paydirt. That's cool for him.
Maybe someone will make a "Starplex" movie? God, that would kick some ass. -
Picardo played him far too camp.
-
He singlehandedly ruined the television ST franchise, so I refuse to support anything he does now. This series sounds like a monumental over-reach anyway - looks good on paper, but will suffer in the poor execution it will undoubtedly get in Braga's hands.
-
From the minds that brought you "Enterprise", "The Unborn" and "Threshold"; yep, definitely some must-see TV right there.
-
Anything he is near I will stay away from. STAR TREK KILLER. Anything him or Berman are involved in will be a SNOOZEFEST!!!
-
A bit, in spirit, though it was about having to re-live the past without free will.
-
Funny, I thought the same thing the first time I heard the premise. But even though Timequake is a much better book, I would say that "Flash Forward" probably lends itself much better to TV series format than Vonnegut's writings. Vonnegut is a bit too cerebral/human focused, and thus his ideas are usually relegated to being only "borrowed" by TV show writers ("Listen, Johnny Sheridan has come unstuck in time..." or "Listen, all the Losties has come unstuck in time..." )
-
It better cover the Peter Nilligan arcs. That shit is gold. Mark Valley has been cast as Human Target's protag. Hope they do it right and whiten his hair!
-
He is such a tool, he can't write, his taste is in his ass and he is fixated on a handful of childish mass marketed crap from the US like Heroes that should have been abandoned a season ago. Just give someone (anyone) else a try for awhile.
-
I mean he wrote both of them. He was the mastermind behind them even though both Nolans are on credits too.
-
V is already casting BTW.... all of u should stop hating on braga...u didn't like threshold because it was too talky and gugino wasn't wearing shirts with her tits hanging out of her shirt every episode, like love hewitt on her ghost crap show, explains why that craptastic show is still on the air, but awesome shows on cbs like eleventh hour are in danger of cancellation..as for enterprise, the geeks didn't like it cuz it labeled itself a prequel and didn't follow your precious trek bible....it presented an altered timeline from the first episode...not good for that show but fine for the movie coming out this summer that completely and permanently rewrites your trek timeline entirely...how soon we forget...
-
It always fails when they try and do that. Anyways once winter comes to HBO all these other sci-fi / fantasy series will pale in comparison.
-
I always thought that guy was named by his parents having one of those marquee signs on the front of their house and they didn't have the right letters to spell Brandon, but the Dad was like "Well, we've got an extra "O", and a capital "X", and hmm... and "n" which we could turn upside down to be a "u". What do you think, dear?
Lets go with Brannon. -
Even if it is good ABC will kill it season one if its not doing Lost Numbers
-
Hated itHATED IT
-
Hated it Really hated it Did not like it at all.
