NBC says of tonight’s installment, “I Am Sylar”:
Sylar (Zachary Quinto) continues his unusual partnership and begins to have an unexpected identity crisis. Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) take measures toward bringing down Building 26. Meanwhile, Matt's (Greg Grunberg) new found fatherhood changes his priorities. Elsewhere, Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) sets a plan in motion to right the wrongs of his government operation. Jack Coleman, Hayden Panettiere, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Cristine Rose and Milo Ventimiglia also star. Lisa Lackey and Ellen Greene also guest star.
After tonight, one more third-season episode.

Heroes has just lost its potential. Still no Copycat. Still no better use of CGI. Still no better use of extended characters. Still stuck in the same rut with Sylar and HRG.
The writing is going around in circles. Heroes needs put out of its misery and cancelled. -
Nathan will claim that he was impersonated by Sylar, and that he can't really fly, (that was Sylar) and they'll put the genie back in the bottle and hit that giant red reset button.

Just thought I'd say it before the apologists for this show come in pissing and moaning. He lost those when he lost all his powers in season 2. Now, why he managed to go nuclear in the flash to the future last fall is beyond me. I think they said in one of those retarded "Beyond the Eclipse" Q&A's that he probably took them from another person with radioactive powers...ugh.

All these flashback episodes, re-writing characters pasts, idiotic coincidences and artificial plot twists (identical twins, I'm your father, and I'm your mother, too, and she's my sister, I'm evil, now I'm good, now I'm evil again, blah, blah)has destroyed this show. I think they need to do a Bobby Ewing on the last 2 seasons, and start fresh after the Exploding Man episode. Really, do we care anymore about where these characters came from? We had enough backstory in Season 1, we don't need anymore. All the writers are trying to do with these damn flashbacks is create relationships between characters that didn't exist, and were never intended to exist. Let's move forward, or not at all. I'm still hoping for the Bobby Ewing fix, however.

So... he's having trouble differentiating between his own persona and those of people he's absorbed? AWESOME! I've never seen that before. Oh. Wait. I have. Rogue had that exact same problem in X-Men and Jericho is having that same problem over in Titans. Original is something that Heroes is NOT! It's shown some improvements - I TOTALLY dug the stealing socks reference from last weeks episode that was dropped waaaaaaay back in the very first episode ever - but they need to start fresh. Clean the slate. And get writers who can create well crafted INTELLIGENT comic type stories (they exist!) with characters that evolve and act like normal people would... not 'good guy' one week... then back to 'bad guy' the next. It's like a car wreck. My friends and I sit and mock it every week yet we can't turn away. Um... not that we mock car wrecks - but you know what I mean.

I don't think anything will end the misery of watching this show until NBC cancels it. Last weeks episode? Unbearable. The writing hasn't improved and the characters still have no depth or motivation aside from the week-to-week assignments given to them by the insipid writers.

I'll be the first to admit the beginning of this season ate balls. Personally they should bring in a true comic book writer to turn this thing around. Geoff Johns would be my pick 'I mean if that guy can get you to give a shit about the Flash i'd love to see him take a run at this show. And to the dickfaces whining about TSCC, that show was fucked as soon as David Silver showed up, if i wanted to watch horrible 90210 actors i'd probabley just wait for that asshole to just show up on the new show. Oh wait , nobody watches that shit either. Quit hijacking the TB to bitch about that piece of shit.

to a friend that Heroes is like nerd flypaper. The same way magpies are attracted to shiny objects, nerds are attracted to superpowers (or hell, anything in the sci-fi/fantasy genre; for me I'm a comic nerd, so superpowers just sort of exemplify that). Pogue's comparison to a car wreck is apt, but even more-so since the car wreck was caused by a dude flying by shooting lasers out of his eyes.
So for that reason alone I'm sticking with it at least through the season. I thought the characterization was spot on and really tied some old threads together last episode...but it's the drifting plotlines that are still bugging me. Last episode we finally got the Petrelli family together with Suresh, working for one cause (and did I make this up or were Hiro, Ando and Parkman headed for Coyote Sands, too? I kept waiting for them to show up...). But by the end, Mohinder's off again, following some other story thread that'll most likely keep him seperated in some other random plot thread.
I can see the writers working to turn this around, I just wish we could get a central story arc that actually involved all the main characters in the show. -

Also, I know people have been complaining that the show basically just riffs on X-Men, but the concept of a super-team as a family introduced last episode screams shades of Fantastic Four. It'll be nice to get some fresh ideas in there, and perhaps that's how they can centralize (is that word?) the plot. -
. . . Heroes suffers from existing in the same television space as Lost, BG, etc. Heroes isn't some big, deep, dramatic classic. It's pulp. It can be fun, it can be crap, but it's had enough good moments to make it worth watching. Like Smallville.

Sylar got the radioactive powers in the end of season one. He attacked the SWAT van that had the white trash guy with the nuclear power was found upside down in the truck with the top of his skull cut off. For once, this was not the usual retconning bullshit this show usually does. Great, Sylar with an identity crisis is like Peter with amnesia. How many fuckin' sharks does this show have to jump?

Yes, but Sylar also lost all of his powers in S2, only to regain his 'Clockwork' vision of the world and telekinesis in the teaser for S3. So, no radioactive man powers anymore.

Yes, I'm well aware of how Sylar got radioactive man's powers. I also know that he lost them along with all of his other powers in season 2, and regained telekinesis and intuitive aptitude, and has since been building a new skillset.

"The glass melted". I know the explanation was delivered by Noah Bennett (how the hell would he know?) but come on, assuming this is truly how Sylar survived it's fucking stupid. With the glass in his head, all powers (including regen) are apparently halted. Glass (and in this case, glass that was used to trap a fire-user) has a melting point much higher than that of human flesh. Before the glass would have melted, Sylar's brain would have turned to boiling soup and leaked out of his head, right?

Why are all the NBC press releases with the synopses for these Heroes episodes so cloak and dagger? We know who Sylar is working with, he's been working with Danko for weeks. Do they think they can trick viewers by phrasing it like that?

When he's around there's something INTERESTING going on. Whether he's flinging around his enemies, chopppin open some heads, or morphing into someone (which they do have a cool effect for on the show).
I never understand why people continue to try to attack him with guns... He can disarm opponents with a thought and we've seen him stop bullets in mid air. -
There's been no buildup to this storyline. No high stakes thus far. Its supposed to be about the govt rounding up "heroes" (am i the only one who thinks this show has the wrong name? It should be called "Selfish Assholes." Thats more like it!) and locking them up. Except we've barely seen that all season. There's been no "Grand plan", the govt is just rounding them up with no clue as to where to even put them. *Scratches head* did the writers even think that far? And then Sylar suddenly shapeshifts into Nathan but it was established the week b4 that he had to touch the person b4 he could transform into them. Correct me if im wrong, but i never saw Sylar touch Nathan, and the writers are really stupid for not shadowing that at all. Everyone's just all over the place. I really want to like this show, i really do, but its workin my last nerve. I have never seen writing for a tv show as ATROCIOUS as what I've seen on Heroes. Its mind boggling. No offense, but a kid with down syndrome could write better shit then this.

Sylar at the end of season 1, intro into season 2? At the end of season 1, they showed a blood trail into a sewer system, showing us that sylar slipped into the sewers to escape. And there was a cockroack involved or something and then he appears in mexico with that one chick keeping care over him. Did they ever explain any of that? Especially the cockroach.

I know they made it clear that they original shapeshifter needed to touch Danko in order to change into him, but maybe there's something to this power we don't understand. Some theories as to how Sylar can shapeshift into Nathan:
-You can shapeshift into someone you've touched in the past. Just because Sylar hasn't touched Nathan since he got the power doesn't mean that's how it definitely works.
-Sylar has mastered this ability in a short time. Just like with other abilities, Sylar gets the most use out powers. Maybe he's learned how it works and can do it based off of looking (there are images on the net of Sylar holding a framed photo of Nathan in upcoming episode(s).
-Sylar shapeshifted a few times, tracked down Nathan, touched him quick, and left unnoticed. Kinda like how the original shapeshifter turned into Sylar at the club.
I do agree with the other criticisms - what was the government going to do with these detainee's? Was there a plan?
I'm still watching though.....I enjoy the show. -
I can't remember exactly but I think that Sylar in Mexico thing was the girl that could make illusions and that they (the company?) were holding onto Sylar. I may be wrong.

Wasn't that the whole point? He didn't go through with it. He couldn't....it was against his character. He wanted revenge but didn't have it in him. Also he's not a cop anymore and Daphne's death didn't push him far enough to kill the helpless escort chick - it pushed him to wanting revenge. Too bad he went about it in a stupid/badly planned way.

What's baffling is that this series, like any show production, has a writers room -- well, it's supposed to. It's where the producers and writers gather to pitch, discuss, coordinate and assign episodes to be written. The odd thing is that the way the episodes of HEROES turn out (with character actions contradicting prior episodes, and plots going nowhere) it doesn't seem like this series production has a writers room or meetings en masse about the episodes and overall season plotting. Instead, it feels like a "round robin" system, where a writer writes an episode, then the next writer reads it and bases his episode on that, and so on. Other times, it seems like writers of two separate episodes have no idea what the other person is writing, so then you wind up with characters acting inconsistently (either in terms of their personality or what their power can do). But it's not the writers who are necessarily to blame for this -- it's the series show runner, whose job it's supposed to be to keep things coordinated.

You can just sense the creative powers behind this series straining to find some new dramatic angle. Meanwhile, HEROES is dying a slow death, and I don't say that with any satisfaction. It's genuinely sad to witness the deterioration of this once truly entertaining and surprising show.In Season One, I didn't know which character was my favorite, as I liked so many. Now, I'm at a loss to name even a single character that I actually like. Sylar was kind of the last good thing, until tonight. Now, it seems like he's just being used as a plot device. His character is all over the place, as are all the others!

Nothing against the actor; he's fine. But the character has gotta go and fast. It would be different if this hunter of "Heroes" was fascinating or scary. But Danko is just dull and depressing to watch. He never has anything interesting to say and he never has any cool tricks up his sleeve. He just feels like dead weight on the show.I'm surprised Noah Bennet hasn't outsmarted him yet and usurped his position of power...

There's just gotta be some unconscious phallic significance in this sad fact.Of course, neither Hiro or Ando act like grown men. They are basically four-year-olds dressed up as adults. I know they're supposed to be cute and all, the comic relief of the show. But their scenes have only grown increasingly uncomfortable to watch. They seem like bored tykes wandering around the sandbox with no toys. Ando shows absolutely no curiosity about his own powers. Hiro has simply lost his mojo. The chemistry between the two has nearly died completely. And neither of them seem to have any dramatic significance - not since Season One, anyway, when Hiro at least had the mission to "Save the cheerleader".

He did. Until Danko outsmarted Nathan by pushing him out a window to get him to fly. Lol. Like i said. There is no grand plan. Y has Sylar become the main villain AGAIN this season? Rehashing old storylines much? Better yet, why OH WHY is Tim Kring the writer of next week's finale? Must I remind everyone that he also wrote the catastrophically bad S1 finale that reeked of pure camel ass? Remember the awful line, "All you need is love, Peter." Yea, like love is the only thing thats gonna stop an Exploding Man. Peter can have all the love in the world. Mofo still exploded anyway. Ugh...I feel the finale will end in tragedy. In this episode, its odd how at the end of episode every last one of the Heroes got captured, even Lizard Mohinder at Coyote Sands, with no explanation as to what gave them away. They just got captured. Someone forcibly raised the stakes....

If the finale doesn't turn things around, I'll really have to ask myself at that point why I should check out Season 4. I doubt Bryan Fuller has any pull on next season. It wouldn't surprise me if he manages to bail out of Heroes to show-run a new show coming this Fall instead. I can't blame him if he does this -- he should be looking out for his own career anyway.

Unless there is a reboot in S4, it's the end for me. I've stuck with it since the beginning, but the bad (S2, S3) clearly outweighs the inconsistent (S1). I think this show has gotten way more slack than it deserves, and that's a feeling not confined to the people here.

After watching the latest episode I've decided to give up on this show. Nothing that has happened all season matters. The whole rounding up people with powers? Rebel? Daphne's character and especially Parkman's relationship with her? Hero losing his powers? The African painter? The Cheerleader's whole storyline? None of it matters. The show is pointless and after the season finale I'm through.

Sorry, it's true. I bailed on Heroes after the last season finale (right before the heroes were being hunted down.) I don't miss it at all.
Chuck has been the opposite. Engaging, funny, dramatic, and I actually care about the characters. Plus their winding down the season in thrilling fashion. Hopefully this show comes back next season. -
How boring has this show gotten? I'm out. How a series about superheroes can turn into a fucking soap, I've no idea, but this did.

That's right. I said it. They are all myths. For those of you who are saying that you will watch the finale and then stop, you're wrong. Next week when Sylar thinks he has killed Peter and Claire will be mad, you'll see that he's still alive. And when Ando dies next week, which forces Hiro to start down the path of future Hiro from season 1 that we all loved, you will return. Mark my words. Fuller is turning this ship around, and next year it will be all engines full steam! -

This went from "Better than Season 2" to "Just as Bad as Season

and I for one do not hold out much hope that Bryan Fuller's return to the show will make any improvements. I think anything he has contributed so far has been sub-par. I bet he's still pissed off about Pushing Daisies and isn't giving Heroes much of his creative best. Or maybe he's just not all that good after all.
Whatever the case may be, Heroes Season 3 has gone from a promising start at the beginning of the season to pointless in the middle of the season to downright dismal in the last few episodes.
If there is a Seaon 4, it better follow a lot more logic and have a specific through line figured out for all the characters. No more of this flying by the seat of your pants, writers. It makes for crappy TV. -
Anyway, I hate NBC. If they get rid of Life and Chuck and keep Heroes, the people in charge need to be fired. And bring back Journeyman, dammit!

One power gives you the ability to break glass, the other gives you the ability to interface with any and all machines. hmmmmmmmm.....I can break glass already. Last nights episode sucked. It reminded me of something from "Villains". Mostly I've never really liked Zachary Quinto as an actor. He was the worst actor(in a cast of really bad actors)in the 1st season until Milo surpassed him and stunk his way through season 2. To that extent I've never gave half a shit about Sylar as a character once he was revealed in the middle of the 1st season. The stuff they did with him and Elle in Villains was fucking awesome but then they pissed all over it. Anyhow, I still like this show. I'll watch it next season. The only way to make it truly great again would be a revamp with a new set of heroes OR put the current set in a completely different situation. That's why fugitives has worked for the most part since it didn't involve them saving the world from some future threat yet again. Like I said last week the best bet would be a back to basics showing the heroes actually, you know, doing superhero stuff, with costumes even; Only it's all a front for something more clandestine. They can cry realism all they want but there is nothing remotely realistic about this world they've set up anyhow. Oh, and if anyone's gonna die next week, I hope it's Hiro. I know the fanboys love him but he's always annoyed me from day one with that squeeky little voice. You'd think he'd have some pathos and gravitas having lost both his parents and knowing his one true love died and there was nothing he could do about it. Every time he raises his arms in the gay squeeky little voice I want to kick in my TV set.

sylar needs DNA to become someone. that's what that whole thing was about with his mom, he needed the blood on her clothing to ACTUALLY sorta become her, psycho style...
so at the end he touches nathans toothbrush to become him , once he has the dna map he can become that person again and again. of course the dna woulnd't hold memories and with his 'mom' coming back tha't's all supposed to be his id and superego sparring it out..
not that it matters, but it DID clearly show that DNA wasn necessary (which a touch gets ya) or and old dna will do it appears.
now don't get me started on hiro and ando and their power changes du jour yipes! -

This episode was excellent, I don't get the criticisms .. and the final episode of Season One was dead-on perfect ... I also don't get the criticisms of that. but then again, many of the complainers are fans of LOST .. which is just remake of Gilligans Island without Gilligan.

She didnt even know who the guy was, lol. I was laughing at the stupidity. Esp when Peter, with all the damn powers he had, proceeded to punchING, yes PUNCHING, Sylar. Lol, what a joke...

But this isn't even entertaining anymore. It's talky talk talk talk. You see, sometimes in comic books, people with superpowers actually fight other people that have superpowers. Sometimes they are called supervillians. On this show, called Heroes, no one seems to do anything all that heroic. I sincerely hope next weeks episode is good, but from the rumored Sylar/Claire proposal I'm not holding my breath.

No one noticed the *ENTIRE SCENE* where Sylar rooted through Nathan's office searching for a source of DNA? He finally found a travel toothbrush, rubbed his finger on the bristles to collect the DNA sample, then was able to shapeshift. If you're going to criticize the writing, at least focus on actual poor writing - not on your own lack of attention to the level of detail they put into it.

Word is that he may be hired to run a new series next season, and, thus, he could leave Heroes by mid season (by the end of show's Volume 5 arc). He's not contractually obligated to stay with the show for any set period of time.

Logical is a very subjective word, its not logical if its a rant about how the show isn't meeting a persons own definition of what a show called heroes should b. And I wasn't referring to the comments week after week after week that say things like "I haven't watched since episode 3 and just watched last nite and it still sucks" or "heroes has one more episode to win me over" etc... nothing logical or constructive there, just a waste of space...if u don't like the show, don't watch it....

"Logical" is not a very subjective word. In fact, it's probably the total opposite of subjective, because it's, y'know, logical, as in logic, a form of reasoning, science, etc.
Also, this show needs to be put down. I haven't watched it since I realised how stupid it had become in the "Eclipse" two-parter, but everything I hear about it since then doen't make me want to come back. And I've just recently re-watched season 1 and it breaks my heart. -

Just because "Heroes" gets renewed doesn't mean it's any good. "According to Jim" was renewed for what, eight seasons? I just think "Chuck" is just consistently better than "Heroes". Hey, I used to watch Heroes, but what I thought was so great about it is sorely missing now.

I'd have him bump into Adam Sandler on the street, so he absorbs Sandler's DNA. Then Sylar could morph between himself, his Mom, and Sandler's Buffoon character (from They're All Gonna Laugh At You). It makes the scenes way more entertaining:

A great thing about Heroes is that we know the characters so well that a natural suspense builds up in every situation when we try to guess whether they are going to follow their instincts and personality or whether they are going to resist them. Also, the show has been very consistent in its theme - which is the ironical take on "Heroes". They are not heroes despite having super-powers, they are real people who's natural range of quirks suddenly MATTER because they suddenly have more power than evolution has prepared them to handle. This is the only decent critical treatment, other than "Unbreakable" of the idea that super abilities does not somehow magically create a desire to become a super-cop. Thus the necessity for the Parkman and Hiro characters - as they are the ones who, perhaps partly because of their relative immaturity, struggle with a sense of obligation to be super-cops - and thus demonstrate how foolish normal people trying to be super-cops can appear.

I get the impression that the characters on the show were never meant to be around this long, and the writers have just struggled to come up with things for these characters to do. So they either repeat the same old stuff (Clarie is pissed at her dad(s) or Hiro quests to be a hero) until it loses its charm, or stick the characters with stupid storylines. The Parkman/Daphne lovestory should never have made it past the writing stage.

.. but he's really the only one. Lately, I've been forcing myself to watch the show if only not to squander the 3 year investment I have in it. But it has become a challenge to watch. The last few episodes have actually been the best in a while, but since a solid first season, its been all over the place and just not fun to watch.

I've watched Heroes since day one. Why? Don't know. Probably because it's a show about superheroes, although I don't really think that's even a fair description at this point. I'm always hoping that at some point the show will pick up and get better. There have been some pretty awesome episodes, but those were in season one. Season two was a joke. This season has been better, but not by much. I thought the last two episodes were a little more focused and I dug that. But then I watched last nights episode. The part where *spoilers* Sylar morphed into Micah to save his life while Micah looks on was lame, but but then two minutes later when Micah is watching Sylar "talking" to his mom and then says, shocked, "You're a shape shifter!?" or something to that effect, made me want smack my fucking head against a wall. I mean, really? You didn't fucking notice that it wasn't you that got shot 10 minutes ago!? Shit like that honestly makes me wonder how something goes from a script to a finished scene without someone pointing that out. Maybe the writers. Maybe the director. Maybe the actors. But no. Heroes is so poorly put together that something a five year old would notice makes it on the air. I'm going to finish this season because I've already wasted another 20 hours of my life, but that's it. You hear me Tim Kring, I'm done!

You're right; When season 1 was still on TV, the Kring was saying that season 2 would focus mainly on a different set of characters. But then the viewers liked the characters so much that he decided to keep the main ones, and made it very clear he has no idea what to do with them.
