Encom! Encom! TRON spy pic!
Greetings Programs! Quint here. We got a tip off from a character calling himself Grumpy Gus about some exterior filming on the TRON sequel going on in Vancouver. On the surface it's nothing major, just a building exterior with a crowd gathered around the entrance... but check out the name of the company. I'm gonna fork over the pic and be back with another interesting tidbit.

Encom returns! Grumpy Gus informs us that this is, apparently, a flashback scene taking place in 1989, that involves a media swarm and a large crowd as someone rushes into a limo. Grumpy Gus isn't completely positive, but he thinks it might have been Bruce Boxleitner.
He also says there were extras wearing "Flynn Lives" t-shirts!
I don't know about you, but my geek juices are already bubbling for this one. This is either going to be the coolest thing in the world or a huge let-down of prequel proportions. End of line.

One of the first movies I remember loving as a kid. I don't think Jeff Bridges would have signed on if it was a cluster fuck,he has a pretty good track record.
-
Hey it's Part 2 right?
-
Tr2n is another one that I cant wait to see....
-
the teaser was so badass in that we have the possibility of transcending the perception that this movie has to be a "kids" film. Please at least aim this a notch above the Transformers crowd. <BR> I'm hoping against hope that if you wait 25 years to make a sequel/remake of a movie, you'll bother to get a good script just because why bother making it if you're not going to go the whole nine yards and do it justice. It is a fan favorite movie, it wasn't a box office success, so there's no risk in never going back there. <BR><BR> Keeping fingers crossed.
-
I want this to be good...but the 1st was such an unusual iconic film...I have doubts.
-
How is this possibly going to be good?
-
SSHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....
-
My GOD! Something newsworthy!!! But my guess you had nothing to do with this piece of worthy news... Step down now....please...its time to go
-
Or V. Or how about a prequel explaining what turned Jared Syn bad. Yes, let us leave no aspect of the early 80s unmined. Beastmaster Salvation, where are you?
-
I never liked Tron and it has aged horribly. I don't think there is much of an audience for a sequel.
-
I have no idea about the plot for this one. I assume Flynn went missing sometime after the events of the first movie.
-
I think it's a minor miracle that they managed to get this picture up and running to begin with. There were various rumbling over the years that there was a TRON sequel in the works but until now nothing ever came of it. And at the risk of pissing Dickblood off, I think that this fiulm has some true potential. I llok at it this way. I don't know how that story will rate, but the special effects in the original TRON were breathtaking at the time. So imagine if you will how this film will look with the visual technology that the filmmakers have at their beck and call today. This film is going to be one sweet piece of eye candy!
-
is David Warner. Jeez, he's still alive, isn't he?
-
...and i mean the original, that you're told is supposed to be a classic but just ended up being pretty...pretty...pretty...pretty bad. Maybe it was good when it first came out, but for people who aren't old grey beards and had to watch it recently, it was practically unwatchable.

Oh look! Something from childhood! I'll bleat like a sheep!
by TallBoy66
BBAAAAAHHHHH!!! Tron!! BAH! SHEEP! BAAAAHHHHH!! <p> Please. Next.
-
How in God's name can anyone think a sequel is a good idea? Probably because they're idiots, that's why.
-
I didn't even love original Tron that Much but I dunno I just know this will be fucking cool!!! Plus Captain Sheridan is Tron!!! a fuckin blu-ray of the original Tron would be nice !!! Who wins in a fistfight?? Shatner Captain Sheridan or New Abercrom-Kirk
-
And the sequel will stand on its own. They won't expect you to have seen the original. This movie has huge potential to be a wide-scale massive hit, showing us things we've never seen before. It won't be Watchmen II, count on it.
-
Sure, parts of the original don't hold up: the arcade game(s) Flynn was playing; the cartoon "vortex" scene; the big 2-legged thing, whatever it was called, that Flynn was flying around in, that whole sequence, just to name a couple; and a bunch more. But there's so much more that does hold up: the arena; the disc fights; Dillinger's touch screen still looks cool; lightcycles; and the great last scene, helicopter in city lights, to Wendy Carlos' end credit tune. Bring on the sequel.
-
And neither will anything else, after how Watchmen did.
-
...for the days when AICN actually ran spy pics.
-
After Indiana Jones 4 it's hard to feel pure excitement for a sequel to a film I loved as a kid. Damn that goddam movie. Still excited for Tron 2, but the Beards have rendered it a bit on the flaccid side.
-
Or vagina, if you will.
-
are fucked in the head.<BR><BR>End of line.
-
Why do you hate it? Growing up, the only criticism I ever heard from people who watched it and didn't like it was they would say it was boing, or too weird. <BR><BR>What was there to hate in it? I'm very biased as I basically worshiped this movie as a kid, so I don't see it the way other people do I think. <BR><BR> Of course I understand that some movies just don't work for people... for instance, I am one of the few people on the planet who didn't like the movie "Election" or "Whole Nine Yards"
-
Otherwise you'll be OK!!!
-
I respect you highly but whenever you or anyone else has to make a quick jab at the expense of Lucas or the Prequels, you/them lose me.
-
Not Susan Boyle great, but great nonetheless.
-
Am I right or am I right?
-
I'm in firmly in the Tron demographic.
-
I'd like to see your masterpiece, pal.
-
Not to sure about the Flynn disapears/son becomes involved plot. I would rather him dying and placing himself inside the system to defeat death, but hey man it's Tron, so it's all good. <P> End of line...
-
The guy at Corona Coming Attractions figured that Jeff Bridges might have also made a showing at the set yesterday.
-
It invented cyberspace. Tron came out in 1982, the same year that William Gibson first used the term cyberspace in his short story "Burning Chrome." It wasn't until 1984 that "Neuromancer" was published. Gibson is widely and correctly acknowledged for his work's impact on science fiction and the wider culture. And yet by the time Neuromancer came out, we had already seen a feature film that depicted cyberspace, avatars, black ice, helpful and malevolent AIs, visual representation of underlying code-based processes... all in a style that must have made Moebius cream his baby blue corduroys. Nothing before or since has looked quite like Tron. No discussion of that type of science fiction should ever include Snow Crash, Neuromancer, or (God help us) Tad Williams' Otherland without also including Tron. In this respect the sequel is very unlikely to live up to the original, but it could easily manage to be a more entertaining movie than its predecessor was. Let's hope so!
-
Watchmen was a disappointment to me as well; it left me cold. I think the level of disappointment one feels, though, towards a movie rendition/sequel depends on when he or she sees the original. Indiana Jones 1 & 2 I saw as a kid, loved them beyond words; they became a part of who I was, growing up. 4 was going to an escape, for me, just for 2 hours, back into that magic. I mean I can't remember being more psyched to see a movie - ever. And what did I get? A piss-poor concept that didn't even mesh with the first 3, a poorly written script, and lazy, half-hearted directing. A crushing disappointment. So I jabbed two American greats, yeah, but damn if they don't deserve one for IJ4.<p>Didn't read Watchmen till about a year before the film came out; loved it. Now if I'd read it earlier in life it's possible the movie would've been more of a disappointment than IJ4. Dunno. At least with the Watchmen movie you get the feeling a lot of effort went into it, even if, as I said, it leaves you cold. Just didn't see that effort in IJ4.

this is dannyglovers_dickblood we're talking about evrything he says is stupid... never supports anything

You're right. Sometimes, I forget that people are fans of stuff that I'm not. My ego clouds my thinking.
-
...you wouldn't happen to be a little biased would you? Seeing as how you have tron tattooed on your cock.
-
First to say it!
-
Almost like the good ole days. Get ShitGirl off here and it'd be almost as cool as it used to be.
-
....WAY ahead of its time you dorks.

I cannot agree more. If Quint can ever do anything to turn me off his opinions, it's his constant prequel-bashing. To what effect? All it does is piss people off; does he seriously think people will flock to him because of that view, even if they agree with him?
-
I agree on the Gibson thing (though Gibson's envisioning was of the actual Internet, whereas TRON is basically representative of one computer system). However, there's one point where I'm gonna have to call you out on: Moebius actually designed a lot of the characters/costumes based on Lisberger's original concepts, along with Syd Mead. Basically, from the late Seventies until the end of the Eighties (even longer, if you want to include FIFTH ELEMENT and STRANGE DAYS), Moebius, Syd Mead and Ralph McQuarrie designed pretty much every major sci-fi movie.

I don't hate Tron. I just don't give a fuck about it.
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
It in no way needs a sequel. Who the fuck wanted a sequel other than 100 people online? Its just a lame premise to reintroduce and it will bomb. People will think it looks like Spy Kids 3D.
-
Only one true Dickblood in this dojo! <p> All others shall become unworthy sacrifices on the altar of Bale!
-
I didn't know Moebius did design work on Tron--that's badass. The old fart program who had sort of melded with his throne and had a big headdress was pure Moebius, so that makes a lot of sense.
-
uniquely beautiful, and they sneaked in some deep themes into it's zen, serenely paced plot. I'm looking forward to this, but am dismayed that it's about the babies. Stupid wHollyweird ageism can't think of a storyline for the elder characters. Flynn is like Steve Jobs crossed with Sid Meier and Alan would be like a Paul Allen.

You know SW? That huge ass grossing movie that everyone seems to hate?

I don't really know what to think of it. It was a damn fun time, but absolutely crazy as fuck. It could very well be the funniest movie I've ever seen. I was laughing the entire fucking time. The fuck scene on the horse track was golden. They show some crazy ass positions with Amy Smart bouncing high on Statham's cock, and the crotch is blurred out! <p>The original score by Mike Patton was very cool. Worked perfectly.

The prequels weren't a huge letdown, in my book.
by TheMarineBiologist
We got awesome lightsaber fights and characters...<p> The only disappointing aspect was the dialogue, in my book. If the dialogue was topnotch, the plot in all three would have worked.<p> However, if you do want to refer to the "extreme" of the letdown category, that would HAVE to go to Indy 4. The error, in that one, didn't lie with bad dialogue, but the plot as a whole.

Looking forward to that one. Tron not so much. Although I do have fond memories of the original.
-
Bring back some of the originals, and I'd be down for a remake.
-
Sucks Disney overlooked her to be in TRON 2. How can Bruce or Jeff be on the set without thinking about her? Care to win a phone call from Cindy? http://www.tinyurl.com/troncontest
-
And she didn't exactly add much to the plot in the first one, both in the real world and in the tron reality. No loss if she's not in the sequel
-
Or did they send him to prison for hacking into Flynn's account?

So as men Jeff & Bruce somehow aged better & deserve to be back
by retrorandy
Why must it only be young starlets & old guys in new movies? Can't a smart older woman come back & kick some ass? She's a wonderful person & still looks great for her age. Bruce isn't exactly the stud he used to be either. If Bruce/Jeff had any heart they'd insist that she at least have a talking role in the movie if nothing else. Plus, why wouldn't they want to help out a fellow actor/friend? She would LOVE to be a continuing part of TRON in some way. She had a small role in the videogame a few years ago. A fellow Cindy Morgan fan, Julie Sigler got it right.. "...It was Lora who made the laser. It was Lora who decided to go see Flynn because she figured it was probably him hacking into the system. It was Yori who programmed the solar sailor. She wasn't just a throwaway female love interest character, and I'm upset that she seems to be treated as such. She deserves to be in the sequel. Plus, in my own personal canon, Alan and Lora got married, and Tron and Yori are still fighting side by side."
-
I'd know for sure then if I want to see it.
-
... 6 minutes of computer world, 114 minutes of character development in the real world? Sounds good!
-
Well, i guess if you wanna ask her about her being in Tron 2 ahe'll be making a public appearance soon.. Florida Supercon on June 5,6 & 7, 2009 at the Doubletree Miami Mart Airport Hotel and Convention Center in Miami, FL.
-
I just did my bi-annual TRON viewing on the new LCD TV....and motherfucker does it look great! Love it, love it, love it!!! <p> And Jeff Bridges? He's the MAN! Never done anything bad. I agree...find me one bad frame of film the guy's ever appeared on. You can have your fantasy of being Harrison Ford...the man has done more bad movies than good (althought the good ones are pretty fuckin hefty). Starman, Baker Boys, Tucker, Fisher King...Lebowski...sheyacht! Even Against All Odds was pretty sweet (plus the Phil Collins song from that flick...I got a lot of 'tang to that one). I'll be Jeff Bridges ANY DAY!!!!
-
You should be thankful he has TRON tattooed on his cock, now you have something to read while you're SUCKING IT !!!
-
I'd pull my user over her any day.
-
Pics of him on top of a truck last year!
-
See his other work here: http://tinyurl.com/5ger26
-
"I never liked Tron and it has aged horribly" <p> Bullshit. It hasn't aged at all, because it was never trying to look photorealistic. Compare it with, say, The Last Starfighter, which really DOES look lousy now. Plus the designs are great.
-
Your post is absolutely spot on. I frequently tell people that Tron was the first depiction of what would eventually be called Cyberspace. Tron was so far ahead of its time that most people didn't know what to make of it. (Kids probably adapted to its world much more easily than adults.) I remember seeing it come out on VHS in a Disney kids' collection, and read it described frequently as "a fantasy about a man trapped in a computer game", and would think, "Fuck, you people seriously have NO understanding of this movie". (In Disney's case, their OWN movie.) <p> So many great things in it...especially the nested world concept, wherein the programs regard the users as gods (whose existence is questioned), and the between-the-lines fact that time passes much, much more quickly in the cyber world than in our world. All that on TOP of the revolutionary effects and utterly alien world depicted. A landmark piece of cinema.
-
" Basically, from the late Seventies until the end of the Eighties (even longer, if you want to include FIFTH ELEMENT and STRANGE DAYS), Moebius, Syd Mead and Ralph McQuarrie designed pretty much every major sci-fi movie" <p> I would add Ron Cobb to that list.
