The new clip from animated sci-fi flick 9 freaks me out!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've gone on and on about Shane Acker's awesome animated short film 9, so I'll try to keep that to a minimum. Suffice to say that I'm desperate to see the feature version, especially after seeing this clip. Anyone else getting a kind of SECRET OF NIMH vibe from this? I don't mean stylistically, but NIMH scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid and the blow clip from 9 freaked me out right now. Not the wide-eyed 7 year old me, the horror-loving, haunted house attending 28 year old.
I've long been wanting to see a resurgence of family horror. Where are our SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES? This movie feels like what I want, set in an incredibly stylistic sci-fi setting. Here's the clip that premiered over at MTV! Enjoy!
PS There's an HD link just below the video on the MTV page, which should be your preferred viewing anyway, but I hear those in Canada and the UK that have trouble accessing the embed can still view the clip via the HD link on the MTV page!
PPS I'm told the HD link isn't working outside of the US, so you can always hit up YouTube, but it's crappier video.

*goes to look on YouTube*

but looks interesting. Not sure if parents will bring their precious little rugrats to it.
-
For making me watch a fucking advert when I can't see the video.
I made a vow never to buy any product advertised in this way and KSwiss have been added to the list.
Fuck you K Swiss. -
I dunno if I would take a little kid to see that. Would prolly give them nightmares.

Yeah, it is. Looks shoddy there, though. Can you click on the HD link to view the clip on MTV? I'm curious to see if that actually works. The guys at MTV say that the HD link on their page can be viewed outside of the US.
-
cheers but no, I get the same stupid advert followed by you can't watch this

F@#K MTV!!! anyone out there link to INTERNET friendly viewing??
by tbdeinc
Total B.S. on restrictions from MTV and all others...
-
it's a global market.. hopefully.
-
this is definately the #1 way of pissing people off.
-
fuck mtv fuck hulu fuck nbc fuck cbs fuck abc none are internet friendly.
-
I agree that it reminds me of Tool mixed with sackboy but that's not bad whatsoever. Nivek666 I don't think this is aimed at little kids more like the 12+ crowd, but it doesnt look any more scary than Coraline or NBC. I'm just glad that they are willing to make serious dark animation films. If you haven't seen the short film 9 it's worth checking out. I kind of think it's a sequel to the movie though just based on what litttle I know about it.
-
That has got to be the coolest animation since the Nightmare and Corpse. I have to say, I WANT THAT FILM TO BE GREAT. Im older than dirt, not really, but I feel like it and that made me feel like I was 16 all over again when Nightmare came out. Thanks for the post. I loved it.

there should be a stamp "INTERNET FRIENDLY" for non-restriction.

This just got put right at the top of my must see list. Great atmosphere. Been waiting for something like this to be made. Spider/snake thing reminded me of Kankuro's freaky puppet things... Got flashes of the Neverhood, too. I think it was their eyes. And was that Sir Ian as the old man that got tied up? Or is that too much wishful thinking?
-
And I'm in Australia...
I understand restricting US TV sites to US users for licensing reasons, but shit like trailers being blocked for anyone other than yanks is an absolute joke. -
This definitly looks fantastic, and I'm glad there was no Coheed and Cambria to be found. They sucks balls.

It's a bit hit and miss. Click the 720p till a pop up opens with a quicktime vid.
-
I'm looking forward to it. It's odd to hear the characters speak when they don't in the original short film, but I guess it would be alienating to not have them speak in a full length film.
-
do you speak American?
-
Nice to see something a little different.
-
Ill take three of these please the very first day.
-
Embed didnt work but clicking the HD720 underneath worked perfectly.
Wow... this film looks great. Good to see an animated film that still has the balls to be creepy... its one of the things I liked about nightmare and corpse bride. -
honestly
-
...and not just stylish. Still like the wordless short better, but tough to make a full length movie that way...WALL-E notwithstanding.
-
(having finally got the HD link to work) is how come they can have a link to a version for the world to see as well as an embedded version that says this video cannot be played outside of the US?
Either it can or it can't. I suggest you say it can. -
Download and install HotSpot Shield.
http://anchorfree.com/downloads/hotspot-shield/
This way, you can view all videos no matter the restrictions. -
Except for Ice Age 3, there isn't one of those FCA movies coming out this year. Coraline, Up, 9, Miyazaki's Ponyo, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie...2009 is shaping up to be an unusally varied year for cool animation.
-
A very cool and humble chap. Hope this does well.

I'm not saying it doesn't look good. But this will bomb.
by dannyglovers_dickblood
No way in hell will mainstream audiences rush to this.
-
...then this has a shot.
-
really cool...never heard of it till now.

That scene is fantastic. It looks just like the design of some..

...video game. I can't think of which though. I'm thinking it was on PS1.
-
....and it had the "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS" title.
-
Are the 2 movies that made me love Horror. Then I graduated to Alien and Poltergeist. I have my first kid on the way right now. I hope there are movies like Watcher and Wicked that help make Him or Her a fan of the genre too.
-
That was fucking great. Hopefully the rest of the film lives up. I love the style.
-
The short is at http://preview.tinyurl.com/2lz8nf and is something that I love to share with friends. This new clip gives me great confidence that the feature is going to live up to and hopefully surpass the short. I wasn't sure if I'd like the voices, but they seem fine. Wow, what a clip.
-
I think the game your talking about is abes oddworld, thats what i took frm the clip anyway
-
the characters look very similar to drywall from scud the disposable assassin, even the bad guy in the clip looked like a rob schrab creation
-
..I just watched a travel-show where a young african boy killed a puppy by biting it's throat. THAT was freaky.
Is can still hear the puppy in my head. -
I just hope the story, dialogue, and atmosphere can live up to the promise of the film's look. The clip sounds promising. But remember that "robots" had an impressive look and a decent cast too. I'd love for this one to rock as hard as it looks like it could, but I remain a little skeptical. Maybe I'll watch the original short and get a sense of what Shane Acker's directorial chops are like...
-
Nuff said.
-
I'd like two tickets to whatever the hell that was, please.
-
played over the theatrical trailer?
-
Apparently it's Welcome Home, by Coheed & Cambria.
-
The character design for that snake/bug thing is sweet. I watched the trailer awhile ago and was really underwhelmed but this maybe piqued my interest.
-
didn't excite me too much, mostly cuz of that godawful lite-metal soundtrack, but this has me hooked
-
goin in clean!
I already know this is going to be bad ass. -
Yeah designs look similar. Except the short film of this came out before the game was announced. Movie looks fucking awesome.
-
I'm pretty stoked for this picture. I applaud Quint on his comparison to The Secret of Nimh... that show scared the bejeesus out of me as a child (it still does sort of). 9 looks awesome... can't wait.
-
before the clip, is a sure sign of the Apocalypse... but 9 looks amazing!
-
LotusFlow3r is a pretty good album. His first rock record since The Gold Experience. The other 2 disk are forgettable though
-
I better not be the only one... what were those lights in "It" called btw something lights lol
-
I'm not the only one.. Man, I wanna like this but nothing about it has really pulled me in. I'm all for different animation, but I'd love to find out a little more about these characters instead of the heavyrock and intense action scenes they're marketing. If that's how it is then I'll just wait for the reviews.
-
Like a superb end of level Boss. And BTW DGDB the PS1 Game MediEvil had a dead knight who has a similarity to the skull head.
-
...Saves 9
-
the script is as good as the visuals.
BTW, the HD version on YouTube is perfectly fine to watch. -

This isn't the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time acn reviewers/newspeople have posted US resticted stuff on HULU or whatever. Fuck, the australian correspondant even did it once! Do you want to lose your international viewers? Because you're pisssing me off to very damn near the point where I'm just about to say fuck this place and not visit aymore. I know you don't give a shit but I thought I'de be a polite motherfucker and let you know anyway.
-
thats what I get out of it.

That looks terrifying and cool.

how the hell do they fuck over the possibility of hotlinking the HD version for your pals..
http://tinyurl.com/cy99vv
try that one, works for me. my bet is it don't work for you. -
I must have watched that trailer no less then twenty times after I saw the trailer with Friday the 13th. That little bit of footage has just piqued my interest even more. September 9th can't come soon enough.
-
No "apparently" about it... it is Welcome Home, by Coheed and Cambria. That's an AWESOME choice, spliced together perfectly for the trailer, like "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" was for the Watchmen trailer. I'm really glad to see a lot of top-notch rock songs making their debut to a larger audience as a vehicle for conveying emotion in movie trailers. Pure awesomeness!!!!!! :)
-
Damn, that looked great! From the clip, I was instantly drawn into that world and found myself caring about the characters. That almost never happens for me with animated films. When the worm grabs Nine and slithers away with her as she's desperately calling for help, that gave me goosebumps.
Wow, that was really good! -
I meant when Seven is getting dragged away, and Nine is going after her.
-
Seen several clips of this now - really hope the finished film lives up to 'em. Fingers crossed it gets decent distribution.
-
for not allowing non us viewers access.
