‘Snook!!’ One Of The Three Missing PUSHING DAISIES Just Aired In The U.K. - And NEWC0253 Has A Review!!

Published at:  Apr 19, 2009 12:39:37 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

The facts are these.

There are three completed episodes of “Pushing Daisies” ABC has yet to air, but they’re coming soon. How soon depends on where you are and which tickets you’re holding.

The Germans saw them earlier this spring, so dubbed versions are probably floating around the bittorrents keeping the Wolverine movie company.

Bryan Fuller will introduce all three episodes this weekend at a sold-out Sunday afternoon Los Angeles PaleyFest09 event, still chugging along at Hollywood ArcLight Cinemas.

ABC will air the final TV adventures of Ned, Chuck, Emerson and Olive over three consecutive Saturdays, from May 30 to June 13.

Those episodes, along with the balance of season two, will also become available on DVD and Blu-ray July 21.

And on Friday, the first of the three missing episodes aired in the United Kingdom.

I’ve seen it as well, and am saddened that I won’t be seeing it again with the Sunday audience. There’s much talk of Clark Kent and Kal-El. The barely recognizable Richard Benjamin and George Segal, both sporting odd facial hair, play escaped convicts. The relentlessly hot Constance Zimmer plays Coco Juniper, a window dresser with a stripper name. There’s a hilariously grisly secondary death. And Kristin Chenoweth is assigned another showstopper of a 1980s pop ballad:

“newc0253” offers a short review of the Olive-centric 2.11:

What’s it called?
“Window Dressed To Kill”

What says ITV?
“The team take on the case of a famed window dresser Erin Embry, who may or may not have been done in by her partner. However, Ned discovers he's unable to help when his life-restoring ability fizzles out on him. Meanwhile, Lily and Vivian receive visitors.”

Ned’s lost his powers?
No, the episode recap is flat-out wrong. Ned is simply unwilling to help, having foresworn using his powers. He is focusing on being, in his words, Clark Kent.

What else does the ITV recap miss out?
With Ned sticking to being an ordinary piemaker, Chuck becomes Cod’s new sidekick in solving the department store murder mystery. Also, Olive’s childhood kidnappers return for apparent revenge.

Any other developments?
Ned declares his love for someone not named Chuck. The return of David Arquette as Randy Mann. Plus a brief appearance by the Sisters of the Divine Magnatum.

So who visits Lily and Vivian?
Ned and Olive and some alleged kidnappers.

What’s good?
The Olive-centric nature of the story, including Olive’s book on double negatives, Olive hanging from a giant cherry and Olive doing another musical number, this time Lionel Ritchie. “That would make me your sidekick”. “And to a lesser extent Coco”. Randy Mann’s Clark Kent monologue. Ned’s decision. More reverse taxidermy.

What’s not so good?
After this episode, only two left. One fears that there may not be enough time to wrap up the main story properly, especially if they keep to the ‘murder of the week’ format.

How does it end?
With Ned’s sudden recognition of his own jealousy.

9 p.m. May 30. ABC.

    Keeping Wolverine Company...

    by igotocollege

You mention that we could probably find this any place we could find that Wolverine print. You wouldn't backhandedly be urging us to go to said sites to download this early, would you? Or were you required as a "journalist" to mention exactly where we could find illegal copies. And to go out of your way to mention that they're dubbed, so us pesky English speakers need not be worried. I'm waiting to hear that you've been fired from AICN. Or I suggest an immediate apology for that base Wolverine workprint post this site stood behind. Hypocrites.

I started out being annoyed with here to a certain extent. By the end of the season I practically wanted to propose. She and everyone else on the show will be missed.

    Saw this. It was good.

    by thegoldbergv

How about that for a short review.

Pushing Daisies is great, pretty much the only thing on ITV that isn't a shitfest of mammoth proportions injected straight into your eyes. I would also add Chuck and Emerson's daring plan on how to enter the deaprtment store after hours to the "Whats Good" section. That made me laugh out loud. Will miss this show when its gone.

So just because something has bright colors, witty dialogue and the occasional musical number you need to have a vagina to enjoy it? It's that kind of attitude that killed this show in the first place. "It's got a flower in the title it's for FAGS AND QUEERMOE GIRLYMENS I WATCH RAMBO 17 TIMES A DAY THAT MAKES ME A MAN". Shit, dude. If you need television to reaffirm your masculinity, then maybe you should try a little thing called "being with a woman who isn't your mom".

After seeing Herc say he'd already seen the episode, I thought the same thing.

Where's the hue and cry that it's wrong to use BT and download programs? Will anyone who talks about BT get banned? How about some fucking editorial consistency?

A report from this afternoon's event

    by hercules

Hey, just thought you guys might want some dish on the Pushing Daisies Paley Fest event.

At the beginning of the event, Bryan Fuller said that there is a 12 episode comic book coming out in the Fall. I went up to him after the screenings, and asked about the possibility of a movie, since back in November at another Paley event he said that they were definitely considering it should the show be canceled. Anyway, he said that the comics were "a reader's digest version" of what they wanted for the movie, and if they do well then they definitely want to try and make that happen. So Pushing Daisies may not be totally dead yet!

As for the episodes themselves, they were great. The first of the three was Olive centric (I see you already have a review up), the second was Emerson centric (with Gina Torres playing the conniving mother of his long lost daughter, and a reappearance of Simone the dog trainer), and the finale was Aunts-centric (complete with Nora Dunn being swallowed whole by a great white shark).

As for the finale - they didn't know that it was going to be their last episode, and you can tell. Many questions are still left unanswered, and there is definitely a feeling of abruptness to it all. But you can also definitely tell they made an huge effort to try and wrap things up the best they could with what they had. Bryan Fuller said that when they found out they were canceled that made some last minute changes so it wouldn't end in a simple cliffhanger blackout, which was apparently what they had before. So I definitely appreciated that, and Fuller seems to still have a lot of hope for a movie, so keep your fingers crossed and buy those comics.

If you use this, you can refer to me as cosmiclagoon.

    Paley Fest

    by writefromleft

Great fun. Chi and Fuller tossed t-shirts into the audience, and during the intermission Fuller and Ellen Green raffled off props from the show, including a Pie Hole menu, which drew "oooos" and "aahs" from the crowd. Chi and Ellen were great sports. The first two episodes were okay; the third is definitely the best of the lot and had the audience roaring with laughter during two key moments. Since another poster already spoiled it, the bit with the shark is priceless. Yes, the wrap-up is rushed, but at least there IS a wrap up. The saddest thing is, the first two of the three episodes focus on characters other than Chuck and the Piemaker, and I think a proper conclusion needs to address their character arc. And for those Digby fans out there, guess who's in the final shot of the series? I'll miss the show. Make sure to catch them when ABC runs them soon.

Too cool to live for long

    by feralangel

That's the sad fate of the original and quirky on network TV. I think the word "charming" is the best description of PD; the word encompasses the ideas "magic" and "endearing" and those ideas encompass "Pushing Daisies" as well. Heck, it was the only reason I started watching network TV again. Now, foo. I'll stick to cable. BTW, the new "Krod" series on Comedy Central is kinda fun. Not brilliant, but fun.

    Another PaleyFest report

    by eternal watcher

Before the PD episodes were shown, Jim Dooley, who wrote much of the show's music, had a small orchestra entertaining the audience. Someone told me there were "rumors" that a cast member or two would show up. It turned out to be Chi McBride, Ellen Greene and director Barry Sonnenfeld. My take on the event is at http://impalergeneral.bogspot.com.
    Enjoy!
