ScoreKeeper & Laskeshore Records Bring You A Video Interview With CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE Composer Mike Patton (From Faith No More)!

Published at:  Apr 17, 2009 5:24:44 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here with another high-octane addition of the film composer video interview series brought to you courtesy of Lakeshore Records [HERE]). Next up to plate is Mike Patton, of Faith No More, who is making his feature scoring debut with the fuel-injected action epic CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE (2009) opening nationwide today.

Being a newcomer to the scene it’s especially interesting to get a fresh perspective from a new face. Mike has a markedly unique approach to scoring and was successful in pounding a personal stamp onto the CRANK franchise with his unique blend of densely packed techno-rock.

The soundtrack for CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE is currently available at both Amazon.com [HERE] and iTunes [HERE].

Enjoy the interview with Mike Patton and I’ll be back in a week or two with another film composer video interview produced exclusively for Ain’t It Cool.

Anybody see A Perfect Place? The short was okay, but the music was fantastic. I can't wait to see Crank 2 Monday when I have a few bucks. There's a rumor that he's also doing the voice of a Contructicon called Mixmaster which is unfortunate because it means that I'll be forced to endure another shitty Transformers movie.

    by imperius

He is an amazing artist. Can't wait to see what he came up with for this movie! Faith No More's Angel Dust is probably in my top 5 albums of all time. I just purchased the Mobile Fidelity 180gm 2LP vinyl reissue. Not to mention the 1st two Mr. Bungle albums they reissued on vinyl. The man is awesome. Hopefully the Faith No More reunion tour that's playing Europe this summer will make it's way here to the U.S.
If you want to hear some of Patton's art, listen to Adult Themes For Voice by Mike Patton. It shows what he can come up with. Also, check out Peeping Tom and Mr. Bungle. You can't go wrong with Patton!!!

My faith in you Talkbalkers that is, not ONE! negative thing to say about Patton, He is easilly one of my favorite Musicians, i love everything the man touches, Fantomas is probably my favorite of his projects, its Him with Dave Lombardo(Slayers Drummer) Buzz Osborne and Trevor Dunn from the Melvins, seriously you cant beat that line up. And to FleshMachine i would HATE if Mike Patton worked with Trent reznor i think he is incredibly overrated (Reznor that is) just my personnel opinion of course, cant stand N.I.N

    Secret Chiefs 3 / Estradasphere

    by hamslime

I was fortunate enough to see those bands play live a few years back. Estradasphere (why isn't anyone knocking down their door to do movie score? They'd put Danny Elfman out of business) opened and did a cover of the 90210 theme song. Their whole set sounded just like the CD. Then Secret Chiefs went on and was equally amazing. The best part though was when the Secret Chiefs were done, Estradasphere joined them on stage and the two bands did a whole set together. Great show!

Berserkr - to make breaks in the text use this HTML code - "lesser than, the letters br, space, forward slash, greater than" . You cant actually put the code up because anything bracketed by lesser thans and greater thans wont show up. - Google HTML Line Breaks and you will find some examples. Thanks for your list some good and diverse stuff there.

...specifically for unholy screaming. If you don't know who Patton is you need to check out these albums:

Faith No More - Angel Dust
    Fantomas - The Directors Cut
    Mr. Bungle - California

He's been in alot more shit than this but these 3 albums are the pinnacle of musical genius.

    Awesome Score

    by cinemanimetal

The score to Crank: High Voltage was very appropriately crazy and got my adrenaline pumping as it should! Patton did a good job for sure!

Just kidding, love Faith No More, I went through 3 tapes of the real thing and Angel Dust was one of my favorite CD's for years.

Love all the Patton appreciation in here.

What a warm, fuzzy feeling. I'm going to have to agree that Angel Dust is THE masterpiece of his career thus far, but really he's so prolific and puts out so much great stuff it's hard to rank the rest. What's amazing about the guy is that his heavy metal growling and suave guy crooning are both great in equal measure. Jizzlobber remains the heaviest, angriest song I've ever heard. Also check out Fantomas' cover of the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me theme for it's subtle creep factor.

    Pink Cigarettes -

    by elvispresleehorsleyharveyoswaldoprahwinf

is a song I can listen to over and over, couldn't tell you why exactly.

It's been awhile since I paid much attention to Acid Mothers, I will find some newer stuff. Same with Boris pretty much, the stuff I heard was ok just not very re-listenable, I do like noise bands but prefer to see them live rather than make decisions based on the recordings.
As far as Japanese noise punk go's it's Melt Banana FTW!(imo)

King for a Daym Fool for a Lifetime and Album of the Year...Both as epic and genre expanding as Angel Dust or The Real Thing.... Mike is the reason I am a singer in a band....no I don't sound anything like him...who could...but I wanted to be a singer after watching him thrash around on the set of Satrday Night Live back in the late 80's...check that shit out on youtube...check out my band EchoesEnd there too and on stupid fuckin Myspace....www.myspace.com/echoesend
