Cool News
ScoreKeeper & Laskeshore Records Bring You A Video Interview With CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE Composer Mike Patton (From Faith No More)!
Greetings! ScoreKeeper here with another high-octane addition of the film composer video interview series brought to you courtesy of Lakeshore Records [HERE]). Next up to plate is Mike Patton, of Faith No More, who is making his feature scoring debut with the fuel-injected action epic CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE (2009) opening nationwide today.

Being a newcomer to the scene it’s especially interesting to get a fresh perspective from a new face. Mike has a markedly unique approach to scoring and was successful in pounding a personal stamp onto the CRANK franchise with his unique blend of densely packed techno-rock.
The soundtrack for CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE is currently available at both Amazon.com [HERE] and iTunes [HERE].
Enjoy the interview with Mike Patton and I’ll be back in a week or two with another film composer video interview produced exclusively for Ain’t It Cool.

this is such cool news... really
-
I'll buy anything with his name on it. Faith No More's Angel Dust was one of the first CDs I ever bought back in 92. Awesome shit.
-
Son of a bitch.
-
Cannot wait for that either. The old NES one kicked my ass back in the day.
-
Bring on Crank 3D
-
If you haven't heard, they're reforming (www.fnm.com). Now to take over those Script Girl talkbacks..
-
Every girl IS my girlfriend
-
Anyone who loves movie scores needs to check out this Mike Patton project.
-
It's of Appaloosa. Where the F is Patton!?!
-
I'm serious. You folks (and practically the entire US media have ignored this obvious virtuoso for a his entire mind-blowing and acclaimed career. When FNM blows the balls off the world this summer, those in the know will mock you bandwaggoners
-
Play "The Darkness"..he is the voice of your evil side in that game!!! The man can do no wrong...from FNM to Peeping Tom to Tomahawk...everything the man touches turns to Gold....There wouldn't be bands like Korn, System of a Down, Hatebreed or Slipknot if he hadn't paved the way for maniacal vocal styles....nuff said
-
"But the Girls of Porn want more."
-
Jump in the sack, in fact
Jerk the smack and crack
Jack from the back
Bananarama or ramabanana
Fuckin' Barry Manilow
On the Copa CabanaTHAT IS ALL -
Mike Patton is a fucking god, and FNM and Mr. Bungle fucking rule. [p]That is all.[/p]
-
i'd love to hear a collaboration with him and trent reznor. just imagine: uber-polished industrial circus chaos.
-
Angel Dust was and is still an amazing piece of work. Patton was also the voice of The Darkness in the videogame. Undeniable talent there.
-
...but it sure smells good!
-
We're aware there is a problem with the video. It's strange because it plays the Patton video for me in my browser. For now here is a direct link to the video while we try to fix it. http://tinyurl.com/d7tr9o
-
In theory, the problem should ow be resolved. not sure what was going on, as many people were seeing Patton all along. PLease let us know if there are further issues.
-
Anybody see A Perfect Place? The short was okay, but the music was fantastic. I can't wait to see Crank 2 Monday when I have a few bucks. There's a rumor that he's also doing the voice of a Contructicon called Mixmaster which is unfortunate because it means that I'll be forced to endure another shitty Transformers movie.
-
...but the use of licensed music in the first film was awesome. I can't hear "Turn me loose" anymore without cracking up. Is there no licensed music in the new film?
-
I'm sure there will be licensed music in it. I really dug the music they used in the first one as well. Miracles is one of my favorite songs ever.
-
This is the aintitcool-est thing you guys have posted in many, many moons. I cannot wait to hear this.
-
I'm listening to Morricone and then this shit starts up.
-
He is an amazing artist. Can't wait to see what he came up with for this movie! Faith No More's Angel Dust is probably in my top 5 albums of all time. I just purchased the Mobile Fidelity 180gm 2LP vinyl reissue. Not to mention the 1st two Mr. Bungle albums they reissued on vinyl. The man is awesome. Hopefully the Faith No More reunion tour that's playing Europe this summer will make it's way here to the U.S.
If you want to hear some of Patton's art, listen to Adult Themes For Voice by Mike Patton. It shows what he can come up with. Also, check out Peeping Tom and Mr. Bungle. You can't go wrong with Patton!!! -
...in Faith No More. I'm not so convinced about his other projects, but The Real Thing and Angel Dust are damn good.
-
ass blood.
-
but you can't have it.
-
they should just release the album with a bunch of music videos and scrap the movie
-
My faith in you Talkbalkers that is, not ONE! negative thing to say about Patton, He is easilly one of my favorite Musicians, i love everything the man touches, Fantomas is probably my favorite of his projects, its Him with Dave Lombardo(Slayers Drummer) Buzz Osborne and Trevor Dunn from the Melvins, seriously you cant beat that line up. And to FleshMachine i would HATE if Mike Patton worked with Trent reznor i think he is incredibly overrated (Reznor that is) just my personnel opinion of course, cant stand N.I.N

I wonder what they paid him?

The soundtrack sounds great.
MP and Trey Spruance need to reform Mr. Bungle.
What else are Talkbackers listening to?
Here's tonight's recommendations -
Secret Chiefs 3
Estradasphere
Crystal Castles
Death Vessel
Plus-Tech Squeezebox
The Ting Tings
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Faun Fables
King Crimson -
shows how most visitors to this site....HAVE NO FUCKING TASTE!!!!!!!!!! mike patton is the shit
-
oh...they are good, dont get me wrong....BUT I WANT A MR BUNGLE TOUR...GODFUCKINGDAMNIT
-
Listen to the freaky majesty of "Everything's Ruined," the spy-theme-on-acid of "Crack Hitler" and the Japanese AM radio splendor of "A Small Victory." Greatness from start to finish.
-
Spruence and Patton are NOT speaking. So Mr. Bungle is a longshot. However Secret Chiefs are musically evolved from Bungle. I'm totally excited for FNM I can't wait to see how much better they are now.
-
FYI, no one has mentioned this yet...they sound sick.
MP is fucking brilliant. I was scanning the talkback looking for some asshat to say something negative about him, good people only. -
My regular rotation:P

-
how do i make it go down in a list like yours? it never works out for me on here:P
-
now i will see this in theaters. mike patton shits bricks of amazing musix. bottom line.
-
I was fortunate enough to see those bands play live a few years back. Estradasphere (why isn't anyone knocking down their door to do movie score? They'd put Danny Elfman out of business) opened and did a cover of the 90210 theme song. Their whole set sounded just like the CD. Then Secret Chiefs went on and was equally amazing. The best part though was when the Secret Chiefs were done, Estradasphere joined them on stage and the two bands did a whole set together. Great show!
-
Includes, but is not limited to...The Budos Band, Bloodcow, Anything Patton (I've been listening to Kaada/Patton, Tomahawk, and The Dillinger EP lately) BTBAM Colors Live, Pelican, The Forms, Isley Brothers, and random 80's pop songs. Mostly Expose' (I know, I'm gay. What're ya gonna do?) OH! ...and Dio!
-
Patton is the most prolific and gifted musician of the last 20 years. FACT.

Berserkr - to make breaks in the text use this HTML code - "lesser than, the letters br, space, forward slash, greater than" . You cant actually put the code up because anything bracketed by lesser thans and greater thans wont show up. - Google HTML Line Breaks and you will find some examples. Thanks for your list some good and diverse stuff there.
Nice to see some Estradasphere love as well! -
is awesome.
-
Patton is and always will be the shit. Check out his soundtrack for "A Perfect Place" you can pick up the dvd & soundtrack together fairly cheap.I'm actually stoked for this movie now.
-
As the voice of the "Crazy Ball". Angel Dust is one of the most brilliant albums of all time.
-
tfw2005.com GO!!!
-
Thanks i will give it a shot, have you heard of Boris or Acid mothers temple? there a must, anyone who loves the Melvins owes it to themselves to give Boris a listen. Oh also add Flower Travelin' Band to my list:P
@dr sauch
Great album my fave song off it is "None of Them Knew They Were Robots" -
...specifically for unholy screaming. If you don't know who Patton is you need to check out these albums:
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Fantomas - The Directors Cut
Mr. Bungle - California
He's been in alot more shit than this but these 3 albums are the pinnacle of musical genius. -
I would also Add Fantomas Delìrium Còrdia definitely not for everyone but i LOVE it.
-
The score to Crank: High Voltage was very appropriately crazy and got my adrenaline pumping as it should! Patton did a good job for sure!
-
Just kidding, love Faith No More, I went through 3 tapes of the real thing and Angel Dust was one of my favorite CD's for years.
-
What a warm, fuzzy feeling. I'm going to have to agree that Angel Dust is THE masterpiece of his career thus far, but really he's so prolific and puts out so much great stuff it's hard to rank the rest. What's amazing about the guy is that his heavy metal growling and suave guy crooning are both great in equal measure. Jizzlobber remains the heaviest, angriest song I've ever heard. Also check out Fantomas' cover of the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me theme for it's subtle creep factor.
-
is a song I can listen to over and over, couldn't tell you why exactly.
It's been awhile since I paid much attention to Acid Mothers, I will find some newer stuff. Same with Boris pretty much, the stuff I heard was ok just not very re-listenable, I do like noise bands but prefer to see them live rather than make decisions based on the recordings.
As far as Japanese noise punk go's it's Melt Banana FTW!(imo) -
but the movie is pretty cool
-
Reminded me of Adult Themes for Voice.
-
Thank you Mike for doing that!
-
Please.
-
AS much as i love Acid mothers i will have to agree with you i prefer them live for sure. Ever heard of Flower Travelin' Band? if not check out there album Satori if you can find it, 70's prog rock from Japan.
-
Dan The Automator + Kid Koala + Mike Patton + Jennifer Charles = Fucking Perfection
-
King for a Daym Fool for a Lifetime and Album of the Year...Both as epic and genre expanding as Angel Dust or The Real Thing.... Mike is the reason I am a singer in a band....no I don't sound anything like him...who could...but I wanted to be a singer after watching him thrash around on the set of Satrday Night Live back in the late 80's...check that shit out on youtube...check out my band EchoesEnd there too and on stupid fuckin Myspace....www.myspace.com/echoesend
-
I'm sure that I heard Patton is going to be working with Dan the Automator again.
